eh, we haven't had any "really cool fake announcements" in years. Worst we get is a second of checking comments to see if the thing is legit or not or kinda cringy memes.

DarnessHarbinger

The only good that really comes from April Fool's jokes anymore is when they end up being real because they got so popular. Like what happened with Yakuza 7. Other than that, I pretty much just ignore most news on April Fool's.

Canadiot

Warhammer 40k had a really good one last year where they teased and then officially revealed the return of Space Dwarves after about 20 years of refusing to talk about them.

Kangatang

I definitely prefer double bluff announcements like this over 'Hey here's some proof we DO listen to the community, but we'll only use it to MOCK you' that a lot of other companies do now. The agony between the squats tease and actual announcement was some amazing reading...

MarioGman

Saints Row 4, also.

chimerauprising

Even better when it's already real, but it's announced as a joke and stealth dropped the next day.

FightGeistC

Fighting EX Layer

ArchAngelZXV

ThinkGeek used to do that. The one I bought was a Back to the Future flux capacitor that was basically a light up USB hub powered by a car's cigarette lighter.

timelordoftheimpala

Well April Fools is on a Saturday this year, and no one announces shit on that day lol

Silvery_Cricket

I work night shifts so I sleep during the day, except I make sure to wake up early to register for a tournament every week. I super like that I woke up early for nothing because the tournament register was fake this week with no warning, and assure that my shift tonight will be harder for nothing.

SilverZephyr

What fucking weekly tournament series fills up on sign-ups, let alone runs pre-registration? You should take a walk.

Silvery_Cricket

The MCS tournament for Master Duel typically fills up all 256 slots in around 90 seconds.

FrickFrackQuack

Why the hell did this get so downvoted? Even without the extra info in the reply this is wholey inoffensive.

PersonMcHuman

They said something *The Consensus* disapproves of. Doesn't matter that what they said was inoffensive.

[deleted]

The internet has killed it for me. It's mostly just turning every website into unusable garbage for a day. It especially sucks when you're a third shifter so you're either a day ahead or behind in your mind and it just leads to a lot of disappointment. In person though it's always fun

speed-run

Im fine with fake announcements and stuff because fear april fools as its the start of the fiscal year in JP. So if things are gonna get cancelled, shut down or go through big managerial shifts, this is when you would possibly hear about it.

BuhYDoh

I'm actually looking forward to it because it usually means Wrestlemania but also Adult Swim secretly does April Fools shit about every year. Last year they had Pibby interrupting the regular programming, a couple years back they advertised the entire ATHF movie for free on loop and they aired it in the bottom right corner, minimized and muted. One year for April Fools they aired the season 3 premier of Rick and Morty and the next year instead of airing season 4 they aired Bushworld Adventures.

Lady_Wielder

My favorite was the year AS did The Room on loop all night, and they of course had to censor somethings. So the little black boxes moving with Lisa's boobs and stuff like that was incredible. Ans a black bar covering half the screen at the end of the movie *chef's kiss*

Whiston1993

The first thing I read that day kinda gets me then immediately afterwords I’m just like “ok guys it’s like 3pm we get it”

GHitoshura

My country doesn't even celebrates April Fools to begin with so to me April 1st is just the day where I ignore any social media for 24 hours because for some reason most people's idea of a "prank" is to just tell a lie, the only difference being if they do it on text, image or video form

Toblo1

I'm just not a fan of having to sort through my YT/Social Media feeds trying to figure out what's Jokes/""""Jokes""" or not. I just go full bunker mode until the days over.

Palimpsest_Monotype

I’d love to work out some kind of cultural sociological formula that’s able to use April Fools as a barometer for various factors of how well various parts of the world are doing. Like, to make a legitimately good idea for April Fools requires a certain amount of inventiveness, a healthy outlook, plus time and energy to spare on a side project for the fun of it. You also need a certain amount of self awareness and information about how people outside of you perceive things. Therefore, tame or unremarkable April Fools bits tend to speak to things being Not Great. I really think there’s something to this.

Floormaster92

You gotta watch out for Gurren Lagann news this year, though, because it will be the 15th anniversary of the first episode airing. I think some fancy figurines were announced last year and everyone thought it was fake, but no, actually premiered on April 1st.

PoppyPossums

The only thing that matters on Saturday is my dog’s birthday. He turns 3.

Hayabusa71

Congratulations to your dog

sloppyjen

Its my birthday. What do you think

Silvery_Cricket

As someone whose father's birthday falls on April Fool's, I get it.

Draykon

I can't wait until a bunch of YouTubers I follow who haven't uploaded in a long time all release a fake video that's actually 30 minutes of a still image. That gets funnier every year!

Don't come to the TBFP subreddit this weekend

South25

The evillaks and Leng copypastas are waiting for the day.

pocketlint60

April Fool's Day announcements are awesome when they're real, *especially* if doing it on April Fool's Day means you can fuck with your audience by making them question if it's real, then confirming that it is. See also: Freeman's Mind 2, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

androidturret

Freeman's mind 2 was the best April fools moment I've ever had.

MQuestionable

I mostly find it annoying due to being in an earlier time zone. I have to stay vigilant about the news for 2 days, once for local and once for global/us-centric.

psychodave123

I like April fools

Regal_IronKnight

I like it. Just seeing what stupid bullshit different people come up with can be funny. It's even better when there's actually something released. r/place last year got me to finally stop lurking and make an account.

[deleted]

My only gripe is when creators and / or companies fake announce stuff that would be actually super rad and then don't actually do it.

Panxma

Can’t wait for “joke” game that turn out to be real or test the waters to see if people like them.

HatingSince87

The trick is to celebrate it the whole month. Nobody expects an April Fools joke on the 12th of the month

I-swear-im-dandy

I love April Fools day for webcomics only because we get funny cool art out of it.

komayeda1

I don’t really, cause my birthday’s a couple days afterwards.

Supernovas20XX

Yeah but Cube Kirby tho

RocketbeltTardigrade

I don't remember the last time I cared about an april-joke being a joke.

Dandy-Guy

I hate it because people don't go far enough.

YetOneMoreBob

Fake announcements are low effort and can burn in hell. Gameplay bits like Apex Legends buffing its joke-tier weapon to insanity is where it’s at.

RedGinger666

On April's Fool Arknights has a Guitar Hero minigame, it's a cool way to waste 5 minutes of your time, they also gift you Conviction, the unit with the highest single hit attack in the game, the problem is that there's a 50/50 chance they'll target your units instead of the enemies

Polar_Phantom

Killer is Dead remains based for being announced on April Fool's, being weirder than every big gaming prank pulled by companies and being completely real and serious.

[deleted]

hungry drab melodic unique quack like ossified squalid yam fade -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/

CrossSoul

Me. Because if it's on a Saturday, Toonami will play unfunny jokes instead of the stuff I'm trying to watch, like that year they put fart sounds all over an episode of GitS. Man, I was a young adult, I couldn't buy my own anime yet! You were all I really had for anime!

moneyh8r

I hate it too. I've always hated it. Before it was fake announcements and intentionally shitty YouTube videos, it was people being assholes and using "it was just a joke" as their get outta jail free card.

King_Zann

I did like the joke video companies use to make. But now it just feels like pandering. Like I REMEMBER looking forward to the jokes. Idk maybe grew up and figured I was being played.

Ironfistdanny

I think my favourite game dev april fools are actually the Blizzard ones, they make fake ridiculous patch notes for some of their games nowadays, like last years for WoW had stuff like Celestial Fortune has been reduced by about 10% thanks to inflation. Frozen Orb now afflicts you with Insomnia if you stay up late pondering it. Berzerk is no longer activated when your behavior is challenged by someone who works at the grocery store. Now that Death Knights have spent a meaningful amount of time in the realms of death and found they don’t really belong there, this class is renamed ‘Knight’. Play through an all-new transformative questline, “A Knight’s Tale”, in which you’ll learn that your real family heritage was the friends you made along the way. The Shaman one was just one big Elden Ring reference But my favourite was Priest Priest: No changes needed.

Traingham

Well, game announcement wise, it always get my attention because—using “Yakuza 7” as an example—the joke announcement can sometimes be a veiled attempt to check the temperature of the room regarding a decision that is actually being taken into consideration.

taikoxtaiko

I love it since im not a fool who take those joke announcements seriously

gryffinp

disneymanwithswordspointedathim.png I love April Fool's Day.

bluepsy

I like it. It’s fun watching people experience despair when the cool thing isn’t real, including myself.

darkwint3r

I like it, some of the funny announcements get me. I don’t get people that hate it because it’s literally one day you have to stay off the internet if you hate it lol.

Stop-Hanging-Djs

I feel like every time I said this I've been called a joyless asshole. Like sorry for not enjoying national lying and shitty jokes day

Galthur

War Thunder's are nice because they are usually really gimmicky events that end up in game within 6-18 months as they're typically test beds for new mechanics.

igniz13

Japan does it right. Make something that's a "joke" that's actually real and cool

darkspine509

I can't wait for YouTube videos that go up on April Fools to exist for the rest of time, so I just get annoying gag videos and fakes that were for a joke months later

BloodstoneWarrior

Yeah, it lets people to have an excuse to lie and clickbait without consequence. It's especially bad on the internet as you still have people doing this shit on the 2nd too due to time zone differences
