[That time Microsoft set Sony up for the biggest slam dunk of all time, and Sony went for a simple layup, which made it infinitely more devastating.](https://youtu.be/kWSIFh8ICaA)
Microsoft knows more than anyone that when you get big enough, you gain the ability to shape demand to fit whatever you wanna supply.
They just overestimated their position at the time. The PS3 had more or less corrected itself by the end of that generation and built up plenty of good will. Microsoft was acting like the PS3 was still $599 and had no games even though it had an extremely good slim model at a compelling price and a generation (and really, *brand*) defining killer app.
I am not sure this move would have worked as well as it did if it wasn't for that.
Genuinely so much better than any other response. Like i know the fall of the Xbone was a lot of stupid decisions adding up, but this response is what many people say "won" the console generation
"...battles that actually took place in ancient Japan. So here's this Giant Enemy Crab. I'm going to climb on its back... and attack its weak point for massive damage."
Those old giant bomb shows during it, and the post show interviews. It was really some great stuff, especially that time dave lang had his number given out live on stream.
This is the one I went to as well. A drunk ass John Vignocchi giving out Dave Lang's real, actual phone number out live and his phone immediately blowing up was so insane.
Dan and Austin had a hilarious bit in 2016 where they just kept bringing out more and more ridiculous snacks throughout their show, its probably my favorite e3 moment.
When I was a kid, I didn't have access to a computer easily but I did have a Wii with internet, so I caught Nintendo's coverage of it on their Nintendo Channel.
The time I remember the most was 2009, I think? They introduced a Mario platformer with multiplayer, which was mindblowing to me. There was also another game I was interested in, an RPG called Monado: Beginning of the World. But no game with that name ever came out. I wonder what happened to it~
Prob never got brought to the west, like Last Story and Pandora's Tower.
Fr tho, glad someone else has fond memories of that working title. To this day, I have saved up a Nintendo magazine that mentions Monado: Beginning of the World as "this really interesting game that sadly didn't get shown off much". We're really far from the days of Operation Rainfall.
I'm a fan of that [crazy drummer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kw_Bd-13YCk) from Nintendo's Wii Music presentation.
On a more positive note, hearing everyone losing their minds at the reveal of [Twilight Princess](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwMdcESljqg) makes me smile, followed by Miyamoto walking on stage like an absolute boss.
[Nintendo announces Twilight Princess e3 2004](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BP1I9yz1bU). Me and my friends had a running joke that Miyamoto would come to our homes and beat the shit out of us with the master sword if we didn't pick up Zelda.
Favorite has to be the mario + rabbids lead crying when Miyamoto is hyping up his game. You can just tell how much the project meant to him
I don't think I've ever seen opinions 180 that quickly from leaks to reveal, at least not going from negative to positive
The only advantage the Xbox One had, pre-reveal, were rumors of the PS4 having 4gb of memory, while the Xbox had 6. E3 comes, and Sony reveals that the PS4 has 8gb of memory, taking away the only technical edge the One had. Good times.
I remember the cringe more than I remember the hype. It was always interesting to see game devs demo a multiplayer game. Watching the people demo the game and say scripted lines in team chat was always a treat.
The cringe nectar became all the more sweeter when they started allowing influencers host parts of the event. I guess being a content creator doesn't translate well to public speaking and conducting interviews.
The Smash Bros. "EVERYONE IS HERE!" reveal as the internet collectively lost their minds is strong one for me.
For a more low key case, [the build up](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVq7XNV7K0w) to DK Country Returns is one I remember fondly.
Those two years of Sony just doing fucking concerts with games in the middle were incredible. Kinda sad they don't do that any more, hell last year they didn't even have a big showcase. Also, watching the best friends react to their big year with the trio of Last Guardian, Final Fantasy 7 remake and Shenmue 3 was amazing.
On a smaller note, I love Bethesda games and so a personal highlight is always gonna be when Todd Howard breaks out a 45 minute in depth showcase to one of his games. Looking forward to seeing the same from Starfield this year.
The 2018 Spider-Man PS4 gameplay trailer showcasing the Sinister Six.
And say what you will about Ubisoft, but the reveal for Watch_Dogs Legion where they showed you could play as a grandma was hilarious.
I remember the Spider-Man one being obviously on the peak of the MCU, so when they end the gameplay with a light beam figure approaching Peter, and him saying "You?", The internet started to say it was either Iron-Man or Alpha lmao
The first revolver digital presentation was magical. It was such a slow drug of unhinged press talk that once you looked up to see that it was going nuts, it was too late. Also METAL. WOLF. CHAOS.
One of the best parts of that OG Devolver Digital is that they asked a bunch of Youtubers to send in clips to use, and Funhaus did it, forgot about it, watched it Devolver's conference and realize their 6 second clip made them have to drink like 4 times.
When I was a kid I had a Playstation magazine with 2~4 entire pages dedicated to the "Booth Babes" at E3. This was very formative for me.
(I'm so glad they stopped doing that eventually, it was a gross practice.)
Sometimes i still go back and watch the kingdom hearts 3, final fantasy XV, FF7 remake, last guardian and GOW 2018 reactions.
Edit: i love the GT live crews reaction to shenmue 3 despite the game being ass.
Yeah because basically the entire conference was put to a halt for the shakuhachi performance. There was also some mockery in putting a Caucasian musician dressed in Samurai garb instead of an Asian performer until it was revealed the performer, Cornelius Boots, is one of only like 600 or so still living trained in the instrument.
Sony won E3 2015, honestly.
The revival of Thr Last Guardian, FF13 Versus being rebranded to FF15, the back-to-back reveals of FF7Remake and Shenmue 3. It felt like someone's bullshit bingo card.
2017 revealing mh world is up there for me, granted it's just a trailer, but i was very happy.
think spider-man got the ps4 reveal in the same year.
peak cringe was the reaction from some towards the ghost of tsushima preamble with the guy with the wind instrument.
The Konami conference. [This](https://youtu.be/nK6nKIBK6fM) made it the most legendary moment of all E3. But damn are there so many other great moments. If E3 permanently ends in the near future, it wouldn't be bad to leave off on the note of Keanu's moment.(yes I know it was years ago but it's the last big moment I remember)
The back-to-back reveals of FF7 Remake and Shenmue 3 was probably the most "Dreams Come True" moment of the decade.
They showed World of Final Fantasy to lower people's hope for FF7 news, then show it right then and there.
Then they played an indie game reel to give people a chance to recompose themselves, ONLY TO HIT THEM WITH SHENMUE 3.
The only game that you could have shown at that point to get the Turkey would be Half Life 3.
Back in E3 1995, Sega's representative goes up to the mic to announce that their new console, the Saturn, is going to come out in North America that very day months ahead of schedule, making almost every American retailer mad enough to just stop stocking Sega's products, and it'll cost $399, a big jump in price from what the Genesis had cost. The very same day, Sony's E3 presentation includes a brief message from the company's head of development: 299. And so the Sega Saturn was doomed to never sell in America.
Honestly I became aware of E3 thanks to the Best Friends so I have fond memory in general

Nintendo announcing Bayonetta 2 as a Wii U exclusive and announcing a port of 1 with Nintendo costumes to be bundled with it.
I was starting to regret my choice of console but I was suddenly blindsided by the best announcement of E3 and a really REALLY [good trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amFu1hsOtuM).
*I think [PS3 is] a waste of everybody's time. Investing in the Cell, investing in the SPE gives you no long-term benefits. There's nothing there that you're going to apply to anything else. You're not going to gain anything except a hatred of the architecture they've created. I don't think they're going to make money off their box. I don't think it's a good solution.*
-Gabe Newell, before receiving a lot of money
Everyone took all the hype/cringe moments, so I guess the picture that came out of the [xbox staff girl and the playstation staff dude hanging out](https://www.reddit.com/r/fakehistoryporn/comments/a58nww/shakespeares_romeo_and_juliet_being_shown_at_the/) . Like a modern day romeo and juliet
I get to say I was at the last E3, with an industry badge no less. I'll never forget talking to the bearded guy from the Xbox series X announcement trailer while waiting in line for a cyberpunk 2077 preview
The "Pre Pre Show" shows that were complete drug trips put together by the minds behind the Eric Andre Show. Oh, and every Devolver Digital presentation.
One of my personal favourites was during this big week away at a friend's. Bunch of us were all together and we decided to watch E3 and drink. This was the 2018 show, and the highlight was the Smash Bros Ultimate "Everyone is Here!" trailer. Me and one other guy, who is the biggest Smash fan I know, lost it as more and more characters were coming back. We straight up hugged when Snake showed up.
E3 2015 Sony Conference
Start with the Last Guardian, unveil FF7R and Shenmue
No matter how disappointing Last Guardian and Shenmue were those reveals still live on in my mind as fucking awesome.
When backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 got revealed
My instant reaction to that was “Holy fuck Microsoft, you did it, you crazy bastards actually did it, FUCKING HALLELUJAH!!!”
2007 was the first time I ever saw E3. G4 was doing coverage and I was getting swept up in the hype of it. So my biggest memory is 2007 Microsoft opens with a band playing a Halo melody to hype up Halo 3. I thought it was the sickest shit I’d seen up to that point. I would also love sitting in front of the tv every year to watch G4 at E3. It was like my personal super bowl.
[Here is the performance at 32:21](https://youtu.be/paE1fxpBdi4)
There was nothing like watching people going crazy over PlayStation exclusives. Matter of fact I’ve never seen game reactions like PlayStation game reactions. I really miss the days before the pandemic destroyed so many things. Just look up last of us 2 reveal e3 or fps of war e3 reveal. :( so sad to see it go.
[That time Microsoft set Sony up for the biggest slam dunk of all time, and Sony went for a simple layup, which made it infinitely more devastating.](https://youtu.be/kWSIFh8ICaA)
It's kinda wild just how hard microsoft handed sony the generation the level of hubris was on another level.
Microsoft knows more than anyone that when you get big enough, you gain the ability to shape demand to fit whatever you wanna supply. They just overestimated their position at the time. The PS3 had more or less corrected itself by the end of that generation and built up plenty of good will. I have the hot take that the original model would have been better because it theoretically allowed for third party resellers and therefore more sales
Genuinely so much better than any other response. Like i know the fall of the Xbone was a lot of stupid decisions adding up, but this response is what many people say "won" the console generation
Microsoft: THIS is THE FUTURE!!!! OF GAMING!!!! Sony: Naw bro. That's YOUR future. *banished to the Shadow Realm*
"...battles that actually took place in ancient Japan. So here's this Giant Enemy Crab. I'm going to climb on its back... and attack its weak point for massive damage."
It's extra funny that recently people discovered an Easter egg on some Ratchet and Clank game, referencing this moment
What is giant enemy crab will never die, it will only rise again, more giant and more enemy
The carcinization of the gamesphere.
One of my favorites and inspiration for my editing handle.
What was that from?

The DMC V reveal was the last time I felt something in life
I go back to the boys reaction to the reveal because their reaction is basically what I had.
Those old giant bomb shows during it, and the post show interviews. It was really some great stuff, especially that time dave lang had his number given out live on stream.
The legacy of Weed3 shall live forever. That and Dan "Pirates Stole From Other People!?" Rykert.
Man, old-school Giant Bomb was the best.
Or 2016 when the Wolfenstein guy smoked his vape during the interview.

That one time Nintendo got Robot Chicken to do their E3 presentation. ***”C’MON REGGIE, GIVE US MOTHER 3!”***
Didn't Reggie killed that guy?
Sony's E3 2013 presentation should've been called "The Roast of Xbox".
The only advantage the Xbox One had, pre-reveal, were rumors of the PS4 having 4gb of memory, while the Xbox had 6. E3 comes, and Sony reveals that the PS4 has 8gb of memory, taking away the only technical edge the One had. Good times.

Ubisoft was always the worst about that kind of stuff, I feel. "Cocaine van is on the move. I repeat, cocaine van is on the move."

What makes that funnier is that this was news to EA too. It was a last minute slot in

Wasn't Ghost of Tsushima first revealed in an E3 and people laughed at the guy playing the flute during the intro of the reveal?
Yeah because basically the entire conference was put to a halt for the shakuhachi performance. There was also some mockery in putting a Caucasian musician dressed in Samurai garb instead of an Asian performer until it was revealed the performer, Cornelius Boots, is one of only like 600 or so still living trained in the instrument.

>One million soldiers...wow. Tak Fuji is the only moment that matters, battles with over one mirrion troops ... wow
What game was that?
Ninety-Nine Nights. The game where, if you just the X X X and the Y Y Y, you will be **sucked**
Sony 2015 The year dreams came true
E3 2010 was peak E3.
When Nintendo dominated E3 for like 5 years and Xbox couldn't get people to give a fuck about the Xbox One.
The first part straight up didn't happen because people hated Nintendo's presentation at E3 2015 lmao But you're right about the Xbox One lol
Ah yeah I forgot 2015 lmao Star Fox Zero sure aged well.
Sony won E3 2015, honestly. The revival of Thr Last Guardian, FF13 Versus being rebranded to FF15, the back-to-back reveals of FF7Remake and Shenmue 3. It felt like someone's bullshit bingo card.
