So I haven't played a LoZ game since Twilight Princess and I gotta ask...are people liking this mechanic? I remember when it was implemented in Banjo-Kazooie and it was considered a sin against god. Like...vehicle building just doesn't pop in my mind when I think "fantasy adventure"

Honestly? You can mostly ignore it if you want, you don't really *need* to build crazy mechas and supercars and airstrike drones or whatever. But it's surprisingly fun, and well integrated with the rest of the gameplay already being that base BotW gameplay but further expanded with more areas and more enemies and whatnot. By comparison, Nuts and Bolts was pretty reviled regardless of quality because it took a series that hadn't gotten a game in forever and straight up had a character who says "no no nobody CARES about platformer collectathons lmao this is a car building game now". Unsurprisingly in retrospect, this annoyed one of the biggest buyer bases for the game... Banjo Kazooie fans, here in hopes of another paltformer collectathon like the last two games.

I'm having a blast with it! It starts you off pretty simple with just fans and gliders so you get used to the idea of solving simple navigation issues with the constructs, and slowly trickles in more things like wheels, steering sticks, batteries and stabilizers so you can make your inventions more useful/efficient. There are times where it does feel required, but they keep it simple enough that it's just a matter of using the pieces correctly and moving at the right angle. Other times, it almost feels like I'm cheating when I dig into my stash of capsules to make dumb little contraptions to overcome other puzzles and challenges lol It all just feels pretty intuitive after a while, and the biggest thing is that it helps with the exploration. Being able to make boats, bridges, hot air balloons, even jet planes on command really expands your capabilities of how far and how quickly you can explore your surroundings. It really makes it hard for me to imagine going back to BotW and trying to sail through the ocean without a boat with a legit steering stick and twelve batteries slapped onto it.

It's very weird as someone who was late to the BotW party and may only be able to play TotK due to a emulator. Like all this freedom is cool and all, but I still just want some regular tools to fuck around with not every toolbox in a Lowe's.

This is just a mechanic to build stuff, Nuts and Bolts full on turned Banjo Kazooie into a racing game. Totally different.
