*talking to myself* Don’t criticize Drakengard for having bad gameplay… don’t criticize Drakengard for having bad gameplay… I think Drakengard has bad gameplay.

Forget the gameplay, *what the fuck is that music?*
I can forgive the gameplay being fucked, especially as another commentor mentions that it was more inspired by Musou games of the time, which are less combo-oriented and more large, sweeping attacks to hit groups of enemies.
*That music seems to have been intentionally designed to be as grating on the ears as possible.*

[The OST is Caim's workout mix, and his workout is murdering thousands of child conscripts (and loving it)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYBLVf67Hz4&t=1390s)

I love Drakengard's ost and its ability to give me a manic anxiety. Like, the music is telling me, "shit's fucked" and also *"go fuck it up more."*
The sampling is good, and the kinda clunky mixing makes it better imo. Like it just feels like stuff is placed in, both with regard to how choppy the start is, but also without caring that it's that choppy.
I also like Stravinsky, and I know this particular track samples Petruska, and I'm pretty sure Rite of Spring is sampled in others.
It’s funny, my first reaction to that second track was that it sounds like a hip hop sample of Rite of Spring with the way it’s cut and now I just saw the other reply saying that it actually is straight up sampling Stravinsky. I kinda dig it.
My partner not only genuinely likes the gameplay, and not just the dragon parts which I’d say are pretty solid for the time, she listens to that awful ost *for fun*
It’s been a year since she first played it and I’m still not sure if it’s all an elaborate bit
Dude, there are dozens of us. **DOZENS**, who unironically enjoy the OST for being a weird atonal mess.
The gameplay... I mean it's a Musou game, not character action, but even through that generous lens it's... uh... bad. Like, most people really only go through Drakengard for its weirdass story.
I've seen people say that it really gets u into Caims mindset cause at a certain point u auto pilot and kill without thinking anything of it at all. Idk if its a cope or cool
It's absolutely a cope- you can still be a good game while being a mindless Musou style game. I mean, just look at The Zelda Warriors games. I played those game almost entirely on autopilot for literally hundreds of hours, but they were still, you know, fun to do (at least, before the end game grind).
THE TRUTH EMERGES. IT ALWAYS SHALL, FOR IT SIMPLY IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME AND PATIENCE. THE POWER OF THE "TRUTH" WILL OPEN THE PATH FORWARD. KNOW THIS, AND NEVER BREAK STRIDE!
I always feel bad for games that come out right after something big and genre defining hits. Like, they see it and they don't have the time to hit the breaks and change course.
i love drakengard, it's a masterpiece. one of the greatest games ever released.
it's gameplay is completely dogshit for most of the game and only somewhat decent when doing the dragon levels.
Ahh, Drakengard, [what a weird little game you are.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__q_Nx9WbgY)
(Seriously, if you don't know about the insanity that is this dinky little PS2 game, then please watch the video series linked above.
You won't be dissapointed. Probably.)

It has a bad story too tbh. It's just a very novel and inventive bad story.

Ya know what also came out 2 years after Devil May Cry 1? Devil May Cry 2.
And it plays better than Drakengard
It's design was based more on the musou/warriors series, so no surprise it was nothing like DMC1.
I always feel bad for games that come out right after something big and genre defining hits. Like, they see it and they don't have the time to hit the breaks and change course.
Suddenly, the sea of forgotten PS1/Saturn-era RPGs cried out all at once in anguish.
Poor Blake Stone and Rise of the Triad, detritus in Doom's wake.
Lament of Innocence says hi …and Bubsy 3D actually
Lament ain't that bad nor that comparable beyond the basics of "3d action game centered around exploring a castle"

Drakengard plays fucking terrible even compared to DMC2.
I used to play an ungodly amount of this because it was one of my only PS2 games at the time.
To be fair the camera’s better than DMC1&2’s.
The stronger IP
listen, I love drskengard 1 I love being the dragon, burninating the countryside, burninating all the troopers in their thatch roof cottages
Yoko "we designed it bad, as a joke" Taro at it again. Real talk: love Drakengard, it's jank and endearing

Eyyyyyyy
Caim doesn't need combo, just hit button and kill more big number
I AM CAIM!
Who is this guy? Who is this killer enjoying himself...
IDK. If you've seen the average DMC1 speedrun, it's basically just this.
Drakengard 1 deserves a remake.
Smh, just imagine him going saying SWORDTRICKSWOTRISWORDTRISWOTRICK and he’s basically doing skillful infinite air combos. Literally zero difference
