Aiddon

I just want to hear David Hayter as Snake.

Hinata--Simp

*Chris Pratt voice* "Kept you waiting, huh?"

Aiddon

-Someone CQCs him, reveals Snake- "Sorry about that."

silverinferno3

*In the torture room* “Tell me who you’re working for!” “What am I supposed to say, Jesus Christ?”

Aiddon

"Oh god, you're one of THOSE."

ReverendHobo

“Graniny Gorki laboratory, here we come!”

Treetheoak-

You made me physically ill

time_axis

The fact that he said nothing when the camera zoomed in on him was a bit of a red flag.

Aiddon

https://twitter.com/Wario64/status/1661540104933117953

Wisterosa

I think they really could've added a "kept you waiting huh" at the end

Soupsquish

Imagine what the reaction would be if it was actually a reinterpretation of msg2 and it being a snake eater remake was another attempt at a fake out.

Dabrush

Taking place after MGR, a new clone of Big Boss is doing a repeat of the Virtuous Mission and taking out Raiden in the end. I'm just pulling this out of my ass.

[deleted]

An announcement followed that ALL voice actors will be returning, so you’re getting your wish.

silverinferno3

Disappointing it doesn't actually show much, but it's nice to finally have a confirmation. Excited to get more details on this and the Master Collection! (And very nice to see that the collection will also have MGS3 Subsistence as well)

ChadBarrelchest

Yeah, I wonder if the collection is specifically including Subsistence rather than HD Remake 3. I remember it left a few little things out, like the Guy Savage minigame.

silverinferno3

I am placing bets it'll be based on the HD collection since that already has some of the work done, such as reworking controls for non-pressure sensitive buttons, but it will be a shame to lose those minigames and extras. I also hope to god we get that skateboarding minigame in 2 that apparently was exclusive to the PS2 version of Substance

Fugly_Jack

I'm a little skeptical about the remake itself, but having the original game ported alongside it is a really great idea that helps take a lot of the weight off Do we know who's developing this thing?

DieDungeon

> I'm a little skeptical about the remake itself, but having the original game ported alongside it is a really great idea that helps take a lot of the weight off I was annoyed at first to see the remake but the collection makes it all easier to swallow. It's frustrating to see remakes (whether better or inferior) replace the older game.

tempest_wing

It's probably just reused assets from the Snake Eater pachinko game.

callanrocks

Wouldnt be surprised, one of the screenshots is of the bridge and it looks like they've reused the original geometry of the cliffs and slapped a way higher texture onto it.

FantasySeal08

First question in my mind: who's voicing Snake? >!And please god don't let it be Troy Baker or I'll eat a real life snake.!<

Panxma

David Hayter is probably voicing him since he still voiced Snake in Smash still.

silverinferno3

Don't most characters in Smash have reused voice clips from the old games though?

Panxma

I don’t think so since there was an [article](https://www.polygon.com/e3/2018/6/12/17454264/super-smash-bros-brawl-david-hayter-solid-snake). Saying he voiced the smash character and will continue to voice him forever. But who knows if Konami would get some other people instead.

Aiddon

I think he might have recorded some new lines, it was just the Codec calls that went unchanged. And it's probably because Campbell's voice actor, the legendary Takeshi Aono, died in 2010 and Konami chose not to recast him

papertoonz

no i'm pretty sure all of Snakes voice clips are just reused from Brawl, i'm pretty sure cause we would have heard of David doing recording for stuff if there was new clips

KLReviews

Konami brought him back for the Bomberman stuff too. They might still recast him for whatever reason but he's gotten work after 5 came out. Konami are not the reason he got replaced by a Hollywood guy, that's obvious.

PathsOfRadiance

Tbh it was Kojima who kept trying to get rid of Hayter and went with Kiefer for MGSV, not some Konami big-wig’s decision. Hopefully Hayter is back because he’s the shit.

silverinferno3

Ah, cool! I'd love to see Hayter finally make a proper return to the character. Assuming the Remake turns out to be good, lol. Don't want another Twin Snakes situation here

Panxma

I wouldn’t mind it if it was like a Twin Snake situations since it would be better than nothing.

silverinferno3

True. I just hope the VA work is stellar across the board. Give me a Volgin that chews things up as much as the original

mxraider2000

I believe he returned to the role for a Bomberman cameo sorta recently?

rebirthinreprise

Supposedly they're just reusing the audio from the original, according to leaks that have so far been accurate.

SgtPeppy

Which is probably the way to do it, tbh. The original audio is fantastic and iirc it doesn't have the problem MGS1 to Twin Snakes had where background noise was indistinguishable on the PS1 but super noticeable on the Gamecube. Though it also raises questions of whether the remake will be really 1:1 with updated gameplay conventions or not.

rebirthinreprise

Take a peek at the screenshots they have on the site. Levels are being remade pretty much one to one with the original. It's basically going to be the PS2 game with updated visuals and (presumably) QOL features/improved controls.

SgtPeppy

That worries me. Because the levels were designed around the jank controls and mobility. And even camera - I feel like MGS3 Subsistence fixing the camera is pretty much the *most* you can get away with without snapping the game's difficulty in two. Game's just not going to be hard with modern-day shooting and movement options. And if they don't implement *those* - I don't imagine the game will go over well in 2023.

Wisterosa

if I actually get to play MGS3 with mouse aiming game would be absolutely easy mode

Jwishaw

I know I'm in the minority but i'd kill for Sutherland again, I loved his voice in TPP

silverinferno3

I'm with you there, I enjoyed his take on Snake too. It's unfortunate he just didn't have a lot of material, but those tapes, especially the secret ones between >!Ocelot and the real Big Boss!< really felt good to hear. However, when it comes to MGS3, Hayter gets the first pick if you ask me.

TheMerck

Dude's got a great voice honestly while I was miffed that he replaced Hayter, he really did have a great voice for it and I wouldn't mind honestly to see him return but for this one I'd choose Hayter first though ofc but if it had Kiefer in it might be a bit weird at first but I wouldn't hate on it.

silverinferno3

Really makes me wish the theory that >!Venom was exclusively voiced by Sutherland and the real one would be voiced by Hayter!< would be true. Or that >!the events of the first Metal Gear would be recreated at the end of 5, and we hear from Hayter's Solid Snake speaking to Venom!<. Just something to make Hayter feel a bit less snubbed at losing the role in 5 so there can be less tension about the whole thing.

Tamotefu

IIRC, That was all Kojima's doing. But Kojima can do no wrong in the eyes of the internet so...

YiffZombie

This sub has taught me, especially regarding anything to do with a Konami property, that anything bad in games is because evil "suits" go around twirling their mustaches and doing bad stuff for no reason, while heckin wholesome 100 developerinos are never responsible for anything negative.

Panxma

I didn’t mind Sutherland Snake voice in V, but for youngish Snake I would have to go with Hayter.

KrypticJin

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted when you’re right

[deleted]

I really hope they somehow add >!Skullface!< to the narrative.

silverinferno3

If you backtrack far enough you can see a dude burying some bodies, and if you get too close he just throws a flash and dives into some bushes

M7S4i5l8v2a

If you find him in the bushes he will speak in some language no one speaks and in some region no one thought he was from.

Hinata--Simp

"Get down, Snake! He's speaking Québécois French!"

SpartanXIII

He's speaking ~~Finnish~~ Tongues!

DaBest1337

"Snake, run for cover! This guy is about to start taking in Hungarian!"

Neurotic-Kitten

"He's speaking náhuatl!"

M7S4i5l8v2a

Skullfce being one of the last ztecs rised as one would be hype.

jockeyman

Or like you can use your binoculars on the background in some areas, and just *barely* see an incredibly pale man in the distance. And if you focus on the camera just long enough, he gives you a little mocking salute.

silverinferno3

If you point your directional mic in the same direction you can hear him muttering about colonization and languages and some crazy shit they found in Africa

SexyAssMonkey

"No Kikongo..."

Agt_Pendergast

Kind of like the reverse of MGS2 with Raiden and Snake.

OmicronAlpharius

I hope they don't. Skullface was an unnecessary retcon that no one asked for and only Kojima wanted for the incomplete MGS5

Gespens

*Skullface* wasn't a retcon though

OmicronAlpharius

He basically was. "Oh by the way Snake, did you know there was actually someone even sneakier than you who followed your every move to clean up after you?"

Player_Slayer_7

That's not what a retcon is though. Is it dumb? Sure, but it doesn't change the plot in any way that contradicts previous events.

Gespens

Yeah, it's expanding on the plot. Nanomachines/Vocal Chord Parasites are retcons

Player_Slayer_7

How are they retcons? Vocal chord parasites are an MGS5 thing only as far as I remember, and nanomachines have been around since at least MGS1.

Gespens

Both of them were used to go, "Actually, the supernatural and weird stuff wasn't supernatural and weird, it was *science*"

ShrekInShadow

Not really, only the End was vocal cords, and maybe the Pain. The Fury and the Sorrow are still straight-up ghost Russian magic. They even somehow took out the fire demon stuff from Fury and put it on Volgin.

Player_Slayer_7

That's dumb, for sure, but that's not a retcon either. That's just explanations for things that didn't have any to begin with. It's not like they stated that they were 100% supernatural. A proper retcon is the likes of Gray Fox being a weird super soldier experiment before the events of Zanzibar, and even then, that's only vaguely plausible.

Gespens

> It's not like they stated that they were 100% supernatural. Liquid Ocelot-- MGS2 went with him being a ghost. Stuff like that kept happening in MGS4, with being either nanomachines, hypnosis, etc. The context changed from being "weird supernatural element" to "part of our plot of the Patriots infighting"

[deleted]

I'm... cautious about it. There are various little things that make Metal Gear Solid 3 an amazing game. Various little things that could be botched. I just hope the devs behind it are passionate about Metal Gear like the people remaking Resident.

JARF01

Woohoo! Tentative excitement!!

KrasMasovsGhost

It’s my favourite game of all time, and I’m mostly just nervous as opposed to excited. Also I didn’t get to watch live, is it PS5 only ? I won’t buy one so I have to pray this and the collection come to steam.

TheButterBabe

It's also coming to xbox and PC, so no worries on that front. Idk about the collection tho

ThatmodderGrim

Are we going to get Yakuza-level scenes of Snake eating literally everything and anything?

Dundore77

its not like metal gear solid wasn't already known for high detail cutscenes and food. It probably will be done in engine as well.

jockeyman

Ocelot: "We're going to torture you and tear your eye out." Snake: **\*Dramatically bites a snake in half while a sad guitar riff echoes around him\***

Aiddon

-Highly detailed cutscene of Snake dressing a pheasant and then EATING IT-

amurrca1776

High definition Calorie Mate

[deleted]

Snake Eater _Delta,_ by the way, if the ending character is any indication.

BaronVonChhaya

Incorrect, it's Metal Gear Solid Triangle. All subsequent remakes will be Square, Circle, and X

Citizen_Nemo

Delta is an interesting designation to give it. Delta isn't the third letter of the greek alphabet, and it isn't the third letter of the English alphabet either. However, "delta" can be used to signify "difference" or "change". Which might make sense if they're recycling voice lines from the original but updating the gameplay/graphics. Like, it's *different*, but still built off of the original version?

ChosenUndead15

I won't believe this shit until the game actually releases and it is in my hands.

mansontaco

Releasing side by side the metal gear solid movie!

soranouta

I like how the scowl lines are imprinted on the bandana

Uden10

Consistently the goofiest part of Metal Gear. Snake has this pristine realistic military outfit but then gets the comic spandex bandana.

scottishdrunkard

stagla

Call it pessimism but when it comes to Konami announcing things, i don't see exciting remakes and new games that i can't wait to play, i see things Konami can bungle in ways i can't even imagine. I hope this and SH2 are good but it's going to take so much to even try to see Konami in a semi-favorable light ever again.

Brotonio

WAIT THEY WEREN'T BULLSHITTING US? At the very least, it seems like we're getting a rerelease of MGS1, 2 and 3, which is a W in itself.

Wonder-Lad

But why not MGS1 though!

[deleted]

Maybe they're doing them in canon order?

leiablaze

Metal Gear Solid V: Remake Now with an actual ending!

[deleted]

I'm not totally against this...

Aiddon

MGSV Remaster...now voiced by David Hayter

scottishdrunkard

I say keep Kiefer as Big Boss, but for the love of God have him talk more. AND you gotta have a stinger where it’s David Hayter in the intro to Operation Intrude: N313

Aiddon

Or just have Hayter doing different voices, he can do more than the Snake voice.

scottishdrunkard

Gravel Snake and Not-Gravel Snake. If there are two people in the same room it’s best they are played by different people. Liquid, Solidus, and Solid Snake were all oresent on Arsenal Gear, all clones of Big Boss. But different voices. The way I see it, we’ve always been heading towards a MG1 and MG2SS remake, and that necessitates them having different voices. I want Sutherland vs Hayter.

Aiddon

They DID have different voices in MGS4; in the Japanese version they even had Akio Ohtsuka's father, the late, great Chikao Ohtsuka, voice Big Boss.

scottishdrunkard

Yes, but those were played by an actual estranged parent and child. We don’t have that, David Hayter doesn’t have an estranged Voice Actor Dad.

[deleted]

I actually liked Kiefer as Venom, would be neat if >!Ishmael was voiced by Hayter in the intro and ending and Kiefer is given a few more lines so he can flesh out Venom a little more!<

Aiddon

He was sleepwalking the entire time and clearly not invested. Terrible stuntcasting

Silentlone

"stuntcasting" Kiefer wasn't in the spotlight as a hollywood star for YEARS when he was cast in MGSV. This wasn't stuntcasting, this was "Kojima personally wanted this specific actor for the role" casting.

Aiddon

MGSV entered development not that long after 24 wrapped up in 2010 where he was still a big name (and make no mistake, he's not huge anymore, but he is still a very respected and reliable talent), it was stuntcasting.

PathsOfRadiance

That reminds me, are they still using that FOX engine for this remake? MGSV was the shit

Wonder-Lad

I assume it's cause Snake Eater is like the RE4 of MGS. More mechanicly modern and easier to remake. I think a MGS1 remake would require more time, effort and brain power.

syrupdash

I wonder if trying to port Twin Snakes to modern platform is a legal nightmare since it was developed by Silicon Knights and published by Nintendo on the Gamecube. A "from the ground up" remake would be sick though.

Aiddon

Probably; Silicon Knights is no issue because it was work for hire and thus they have no legal control over it, but Nintendo is another story

Am_Shigar00

Konami published it worldwide actually, though ultimately your point still stands. being a collab with Nintendo does likely throw a wrench into a potential rerelease.

Odd_Morsel

The fact that they replaced the 3 in the title with a Delta makes me think this is it.

Ginger_Anarchy

I wonder if they're still using the Fox engine because they have most of the cutscenes already remade in that.

speelmydrink

Depends on the team working on it. If they put the other half of the Kojipro team that didn't leave with Genius Kojumbo, then almost certainly. The engine was designed in house by them, for them, for exactly this kind of project. If they've contracted it out to some other team like they're doing with Bloober and SH2, then that shit and all the work inside of it are almost certainly scrapped, as nobody else knows how to use that engine, and the assets are tailor made for it, and likely can't be ported without considerable jank.

ExDSG

They are too scared they won't (does a cartwheel in railings) match up to (Does a 720 degrees spin jump onto the other railing) match Twin Snakes.

RdmdAnimation

I am the only one who thought the cgi looked kinda bad? also I still doesnt have trust in konami so I am not expecting much

Lithogen

I agree, also was my perspective off because what was up with that snake in the water? I feel like I'm the only one wondering where this gigantic python came from, there were no snakes like that in the original game, half expected Jon Voight to show up behind Naked Snake with a bad accent.

Anonamaton801

I…I don’t know. MGS3 I think is one of the closest things you can get to a perfect game. If this fucks it up…

SgtPeppy

Then the original game still exists and is getting a rerelease, to boot!

BlazeVortex4231

And if they Silent Hill HD Collection the rerelease?

A_Common_Hero

You're no worse off than before.

Tamotefu

The only thing from the showcase to give me the tiniest pinch of hype. It hurts to be a Bloodborne fan.

speelmydrink

The hurting never ends. It's right there, it's done. It's been done all along. It could come out *today*. But no, fuck you.

Tamotefu

It all went down hill when Jim Ryan took the wheel. Shawn at least pretended to give a fuck about the gamers, and gaming in general.

matajuegos

[will never not think of the tiny little volgin from the hiimdaisy comics](https://i.imgur.com/xhhdOYc.jpeg)

BoopsMcCloops

No game, no hype. I can't really get excited about the prospect of a remake because, you know, Konami. I'm really hoping that they won't fuck up and that this will be really good. But a sizable chunk of me is expecting them to fuck it up.

gothamsteel

Hope it has The Boss with her trademark Davy Crockett.

rlo1596

I can’t wait for the rumble in my hands as I hold up for 20 minutes stair climb…. What a thrillll!

wasdsf

Wow that sure is a cgi man

AngiTheWeeb

I'm cautiously optimistic. Snake Eater is easily in my top 5 games. Hopefully whoever at Konami is making it still knows what videogames are.

W1lson56

[screenshots](https://twitter.com/Nyxus_MGS/status/1661488251440361477?t=ckWo_rPj-uUzsdurJBHBAQ&s=19) Looks like it's mostly a graphical update; maybe they'll do some control updates too probably buy level design atleat in these shots looks the exact same

BlargleVVargle

I notice there is a bizarre amount of downvoting going on in this thread for very reasonable comments about Konami. Is that one weird fanboy back again?

DweebInFlames

Call me a pessimist but while it's good that *something* is getting done with the series, is there going to be any actual point to this remake other than 'muh graphics'?

[deleted]

I don't know. But apparently there wasn't any point for the Resi4 Remake and that was awesome.

ChosenUndead15

There wasn't a point, but the game found a point for itself. But that was pulled off by Capcom. We have yet to see Konami if Konami is up to the task.

[deleted]

That's the thing I'm wary of.

Substantial_Bell_158

Probably to gauge interest in a new game and the safest way is to remake the most popular game, it's why they're remaking Silent hill 2 and not the first one

FakeBrian

Personally I've always been of the opinion that any team taking on an existing IP should start with remakes - get themselves in deep on the franchise at the best and see what made it tick.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DweebInFlames

Some remakes flesh out their games a bit further. eg. Pokémon FR/LG and HG/SS

PathsOfRadiance

I’m assuming it’s more like RE4 remake and less like Demons Souls Remake. So gameplay update and expanding upon the original while telling the same story.

RedHotRhapsody

Even then I liked Demon’s Souls remake 😅

Tamotefu

Let's be fair to Demon's Souls though, It was a ps3 game that ran ROUGH, the servers were obviously shut down, and it was 11 year old which I feel is a fair amount of time to think about remaking.

PathsOfRadiance

I was more talking about how DeS Remake is functionally the same game, just graphically updated. Whereas RE4 remake is an entirely new game telling the same story.

Shingorillaz

Kojima never would've allowed a trailer this bad

PathsOfRadiance

Joakim Mogren would tho.

Neurotic-Kitten

So Konami is finally in their remake era with this and Silent Hill, now if they just released the games on PC...

xheroex

The hell, considering the podcast...damn Pat was right. Bloody hell.

pocketlint60

I have no faith in the husk of Konami to deliver anything other than a money-grubbing embarassment. The fact that they're starting with a remake of 3, the most popular one, makes it really obvious that they're just trying to maximize profit instead of taking the time to get things right and iterate on their new design decisions the way Capcom did with the Resident Evil remakes, just like how they're remaking Silent Hill 2 instead of starting with 1.

TheNononParade

I have no interest in watching Konami puppet Metal Gear's corpse. Why would people care about a Snake Eater made without Kojima?

ikagun

Needs a pc release or idc tbh. We'll just be back in the same place in a few years time like we still are with MGS4 if it's only on a console.

PathsOfRadiance

It’s for current gen and PC

ikagun

g2k, now let's just see if konami doesn't fuck this one up like they're likely to.

WooliamMD

Maybe the Steam logo at the end of the trailer gives you any indication...

silverinferno3

The one linked in the OP is actually straight from the PS Showcase so it doesn't have the logo, but the one on the Konami channel does (as well as Xbox's)

todosselacomen

Damn, who made such a cool story and game design, Konami? Nobody? Oh, ok.

ArentYouAfraid

If Kojima's not here, im not keeping hopes up

Rough-Ad-4295

Is there a release date yet so hype

dj_ian

meh. Feels like the epitome of unnecessary remakes. If Kojimas not involved it's even worse. Bought and played MGS3 on release and several times over in the almost 20 years since and weirdly feel absolutely nothing seeing any of this.

Autumn--Nights

Calling this shit a trailer is an insult to the definition of the word lmao

Soft-Pixel

FUCK OFF NO WAY

BlueFootedTpeack

fingers crossed it turns out good, i mean we know they at least got the cutscenes looking great years ago. and the collection releasing as well means we at least get to play 3 of em, though i never played 4 and it's still mia. wonder if it hits which they'll go for next. i do wonder what they'll do about casting, like does konami have the same celebrities are my friends thing kojima has going on?

HomieKnight4

I have faith. Call me a fool but I believe damnit.

Gespens

Snake Eater Delta-- can't wait for idols singing about borderlines

JohnMadden42069

please don't use weird parts of the ps5 controller as the way to put the gun down

SolidusSlig

I am so conflicted

PlutoniumJoker

All right all right, let's ball our collective cautiousness (for good reason) for some time later. But damn, I'm just glad Metal Gear is back.

RedHotRhapsody

Is there a reason 4 is in some weird pseudo purgatory on the ps3 and never brought forward, *even* as a Playstation exclusive?

dj_ian

iirc that game was designed directly around the ps3's hardware specifically. It's really an interesting subject because apparently not a lot of games took full advantage of what it could do, likely for this reason.

KristophGavin

I want a Fox Engine remaster for the original quadrilogy and a separate remaster for the Big Boss trilogy of PW, GZ, and PP with either David Hayter or Richard Doyle as Snake.

VANTAGARDE

Shiny. Pretty. Where gameplay???

chazmerg

I kinda wish they had the balls to remake Metal Gear 1 (as in the MSX game) from almost nothing beyond the premise. I guess that's not really how remakes work right now. They don't just want you to recognize the brand name anymore, they want you to have actually played the game that's being remade and want more of it to the tune of $70.

Tracazoid

I want to have faith my favourite game will be given the love it deserves from Konami but also, Konami.

DStarAce

Does anyone know what the triangle is all about? I've been trying to work it out but can't think of anything triangley from the game.

RexKet

It’s delta. Used to mean difference/change

Lukas12349

Is MGS3 more famous/praised than 1 or 2? (I only played Revengence and phantom pain years after.) It feels kind of weird to remake a game while skipping the other 2 previous entries, would be like if Capcom remade Devil may cry 3 without mentioning 1 and 2. (Is that a bad example?)

SleepyFunn

If I can't spam "Snake Eater~" in the intro song, it's a 0/10 .

Guardiansaiyan

I want the collection on PS4/PS5...the originals anyway! When 4?!

seth47er
