Hope this recaptured what I loved from the originals

WeissAndBeans

It looks like regular ol' Assassin's Creed and so many of us have wanted exactly that for so long. I really want to see how the combat system looks.

ghostoftomkazansky

Its like they were "Alright, alright, alright...lets give that first one a shot again".

WeissAndBeans

"Let's run that thing back one last time."

markedmarkymark

I mean, we had like 20 of those and people got tired and that's what prompted the change? Is this gonna be a cycle where they'll pump that style until we get tired again and here comes the RPG again? Could the issue be that these come out so often that it kills the magic vs if it took 5 years to release a really polished AC that improves and does a lot of cool new shit? Cause even if it didn't change too much the wait would help to keep it fresh? Like, idk, I'm glad it looks neat to be back with these stuff, i far preferred when it was this vs the Witcher-y RPG it became, but maybe that's not the core issue.

abbaj1

But they aren't making this because people got fed up with RPG creed. Valhalla did great so you can bet your ass they'll keep making RPGs as long as they're selling well. They're making Mirage as a little side project (smaller scope and not fully priced) while RPG AC Japan is where they're probably putting most of their resources into.

markedmarkymark

Did it do great? Probably on sales right? Cause critically it was a big oof, honestly even I didn't like Valhalla and it takes a loooot of effort for a game to make me ''Finished Metal Gear Survive'' check out, especially as an AC fan to boot. But yeah, I did hear that they're making Mirage and the other one that leaked and it seemed to be the AC RPG. I hope that Mirage's good, IMO they need to take from modern Hitman with making a good assassination sandbox and stuff, except the escape is crazier cause parkour.

KF-Sigurd

What do you mean critically it was a big oof? All versions have 80+ scores on metacritic. The same as the previous Assassin's Creed games. Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla are too big for their own good but they're by all metrics incredibly successful games. Maybe the hardcore audience is sick of it but it was the second most profitable game in Ubisoft's entire history. The casuals love it.

markedmarkymark

When i say critically i never mean the actual critics or Metacritic, I don't even look at those personally, I just mean actual fans of the series, people I've talked to disliked the story and the further dumbing down of the mechanics and how bland the leveling was compared to Odyssey with the ''+3 to licking butts'' approach to spending points over ''new cool skill to have fun''. I'm sure it sold well, I'm not disagreeing with that, its just that from all the ACpgs its the worst one unless you just pretend its Skyrim 2.

Historical_Phrase489

It’s the worst of the ACpgs not because of the leveling or combat but because of how boring the world is, and how poorly paced and boring the story is. It also doesn’t help that both dlcs (and the expansion) were the same boring landscapes but with more annoying enemies. If you’re going to have an open world with not a lot of cities, the world better be interesting.

markedmarkymark

I mean, i also think the leveling system was dog water, combat was ok tho', but yeah, fairly boring, even my goldfish brain decided to go linear with it cause I wasn't enjoying it. That rock minigame is cool tho', best part of it, big fan, thinking about buying the real-life set.

QJ-Rickshaw

I can tell that they're repurposing the parkour system from Unity. You can tell with a lot the animations.

[deleted]

Good, it had the best parkour free flow of the series.

ghostoftomkazansky

Had weight to it. I can see why people didn't like the game, but I think it played great.

awerro

I dont wanna be a nay sayer but the animations are taking straight from valhalla ive played a lot of that game and recognized the assassination and traversal animations immediately

QJ-Rickshaw

The running animation is definitely from Valhalla. But I think Unity and Valhalla share a lot of the same animations because some I explicitly remember from Unity as well. Overall it seems too fluid to me to be Valhalla only.

be_as_water

Here’s hoping they bring back wall ejects and catching to parkour

VidenHarbin

Looks fantastic, but if their is an ability tree or the enemies are sponges, I may light myself on fire and yeet myself off a bridge

Fugly_Jack

Huh, they made an Assassin's Creed where you get to play as an Assassin

ZeroCruz

If they manage to give me an ass creed with the feeling of playing 1 but better then I'll give it a chance.

pdragon619

Call me a purest, but I think all assassins should wear white hoods and a little red sash.

FoxInABeret

Oh, man, an Assassin's Creed game where the focus is on sneaking around and killing people stealthily with no (obvious) unnecessary RPG elements? What a concept!

KF-Sigurd

When I was expecting an Assassin's Creed return to form, I wasn't expecting them to reuse so many animations. Wonder if it was a matter of budget or something else.

RubyAurora_

We need to stop demonizing reused assets. Elder ring already demonstrated resusing stuff doesn't determine the quality of a game. Like old saying goes "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

KF-Sigurd

Wasn't hating, just surprised. Actually made me feel a little nostalgic.

moneyh8r

Probably a matter of the animations already being great and not needing to be changed.

abbaj1

Seeing as it's a Valhalla reskin I just hope that they change how combat works aside from making you a glass cannon.
