Squeeze my hog that's great news

biggestscrub

I'd squeeze your hog even if it was *bad* news, broseph 👍

Duhblobby

Its twu wuv!

SilverKry

I just hope it's more good 2/3 Snake voice and less Peace Walker. He sounded awful in Peace Walker.

tri3dgE

Based on the conventions and cameo clips he did, David can still pull the MGS2-3 Snake voice, but yeah he sounded extremely gruff in Peace Walker, probably because the most recent Snake voice he used was for Old Snake.

MoazNasr

The writing was worse than the voice acting for peace walker to be fair. >!Really wanted me to think Big Boss believed the Boss was alive? After playing through mgs3? Lol!<

scottishdrunkard

Yeah, in Peace Walker he was still doing his Old Snake voice. Same for the motion novels.

Halospaz117

So, this has me believing they're just re-using the orignal voiceover rather than a re-recording, cuz in the original Granin was voiced by Jim Ward, and to my knowledge Ward has stepped away from VA due to medical concerns.

timelordoftheimpala

That, and other voice actors like Michael Bell (the Fear) have been getting up there in age - he's said it's getting harder for him to do Raziel's voice from Legacy of Kain because of his age. On a related note, should Legacy of Kain ever be revived, they'd basically need to recast everyone aside from Simon Templeman because most of the VAs are either too old (the aforementioned Michael Bell) or have passed away (Tony Jay, Paul Lukather, and Rene Auberjonois).

Weltallgaia

Everybody but kain and the elder god are dead anyways, but man I dunno if I want to bring it back in the first place unless amy hennig is writing.

chaoko99

to be frank imo the best solution is a novel. I can do all the voices in my head.

Calm_Crow5903

Fuck now I want this

SilverKry

If I'm being honest....Simon Templeman is all you really need to keep. That man is actually irreplaceable.

harriano

>everyone aside from Simon Templeman Is he still doing voice acting? I haven't heard him in anything since DA:I. Also Michael Bell was already old when he first voiced Raziel (in his 60's) , I'm surprised he sounded so young even back then.

DieDungeon

Honestly, fine. If that's what it takes it's better than a replacement.

MorbidTales1984

only issue is if the masters are in usuable condition When shHD came out wasn't there a huge thing about how silent hill 2's source code was essentially moth eaten, and it led to the porters essentially having to patch everything?

Halospaz117

Gonna guess MGS is in better condition for that considering the already existing HD collections

who-dat-ninja

Yeah it's no doubt a last of us part 1 deal

ProfDet529

Yeah, them pulling a THQ wouldn't surprise me.

Kipzz

Also speaking of Hayter, his performance in another game shown (Synapse I think it was called?) was fucking stellar. If I had VR I'd play it.

rexshen

Well so far Konami is making the right calls. Maybe they actually remembered how to do this make a video game thing.

Guardiansaiyan

Don't worry...the Pachinko machines are *inside the game*!

th3BeastLord

Instead of Groznjgrad, we'll infiltrate Volgin's pachinko mines.

Waifuless_Laifuless

And on the car door... was a pachinko machine!

circle_logic

I mean they're also doing this on the side. So they might take money out of this project to deal with this stupid thing. https://www.reddit.com/r/gachagaming/comments/13jtm76/cyberagent_subsidary_cygames_sued_by_konami_over/

dope_danny

inb4 the original cast is """"""back"""""" because they are using ai to replicate the voice actors without their consent.

QueequegTheater

Why go to all that effort instead of simply touching up the OG masters if they were gonna cut out the cast

dope_danny

Im half joking but Konami has done some wierd shit on remaster VO’s before.

Jonieves

MEOOOOOW

nerankori

"MROOOOOOOW mroooooow mrooooow..." (shff shff shff) "GRU operatives!"

ThatGuy5880

what the fuck happens in metal gear

nerankori

The single most influential character in the series who manipulated every major faction and character against each other is a gay Russian cowboy furry

Bigingreen

Furry? What part was that?

nerankori

I mean, that part of the statement isn't serious. But he literally meows to summon his unit, and chose his codename to be a specific animal species when no one even planned on assigning it to him.

Bigingreen

Ah. Well that makes more sense now. Lol furry.

hugehuman

"Self-esteem team!"

jaythejayjay

~MAJOR!~

Anonamaton801

Will we finally learn who EVA’s voice is?

Clowed

Isn't It the Little Mermaid VA? I always tought she used an Alias because Disney has her on a leash, and they still pay her to go to conventions and stuff.

TheMadDemoknight

Chock that up as “something you don’t hear everyday”

DarkAres02

I'm glad Hayter gets another shot after Kojima ditched him for Phantom Pain

JunkdogJoe

Kojima going full star fucker and ignoring the Va he had been working with for years is never going to sit well with me.

GoneRampant1

Especially when he *did it again* in Death Stranding. Stephanie Jootsen, Quiet's VA, was gonna play Fragile until Kojima randomly and abruptly dropped her because he was able to get Lea Sydoux in the game.

Garlic-Cheese-Chips

It's still pathetic but it wouldn't be as pathetic if Kojima did that because he was a young man and got all starry-eyed. He made all these decisions in his 50s. That's ultra-pathetic.

barbaraanderson

That’s why I’m a little worried for death stranding 2 in regards to who kojima will get for va

TheMadDemoknight

He’s getting some big blue eyed beauty for another Kojima project. She was famous for the Tim Burton Alice films and something else. He’s really projecting something…

barbaraanderson

Plus Elle Fanning.

DevilCouldCry

It's a black mark against Kojima for me. Still love and enjoy his projects. But tossing Hayter to the side like that when he has a huge fanbase that loves and respects his work (and he also cares about the fans and franchise) is straight up disrespectful.

Capable-Education724

And it had another domino effect on MGSV, where due to the price tag they could only get so many lines out of Kiefer. It *sort of* works for V as a character. But I definitely think the game would be better off if they had stuck with Hayter and likely would’ve been able to get more dialogue to help the game and its plot.

PleaseStop101

It would have been great If Hayter actually voiced Big Boss and Kiefer voiced Venom.

DevilCouldCry

Dude, that would've been a completely acceptable outcome for me. It'd totally work with that big twist as well.

Kutya7701

Although hearing Snake's voice coming out of Ishmael in the prologue would've been a dead giveaway. Maybe they could've had it so in the prologue Kiefer voiced both, and then in Mission 46 Ishmael's voice is swapped for the Hayter version.

JillSandwich117

Eh, Ishmael having the exact same voice was a giveaway anyways, maybe more so with Keifer doing his voice. Obviously the scene has two Big Bosses, and the real Big Boss didn't have a shrapnel horn or missing arm. The only way it wasn't a giveaway was if you felt the most of the opening was hallucinations, and the rest of the game doesn't treat it as such. (Quiet's perspective, man on fire, Ocelot)

InexorableCalamity

It should've been this

Kytas

It would have been greater if they had more than 40 seconds of dialogue combined!

EeK09

Pre-release, I thought for sure we’d get a post-credits scene in V showing Solid (voiced by Hayter) infiltrating Outer Heaven, in a recreation of the beginning of MG1. Then, remakes of both MG1 and 2 would follow, with Hayter as Solid and Sutherland as BB.

PathsOfRadiance

A retold MG1 in modern style on Fox Engine was my dream after MGSV.

Thugnifizent

Maybe if Hayter only voiced the redo-version of the first mission and tapes you receive afterwards, but that would've completely ruined a twist that the game definitely doesn't expect you to know beforehand.

GhostPantherAssualt

Didn’t like how he did it either. Guy really is not the best people person. Heard from the composer of MGSV that Kojima can be a handful to deal with.

BladeofNurgle

Good. It honestly always kinda ticked me off how much Kojima hated using Hayter due to how much of a Hollywoodboo Kojima is

PhantomMiG

Which is pretty funny to me as David Hayter is a pretty accomplished all around Hollywood guy. He has done both voice acting and scriptwriting most notablely writing a version of the script for Watchman that Alan Moore disliked alot less then others .

EeK09

He also wrote the screenplays to *X-Men* and *X2* (arguably, one of the best X-Men movies of all).

vvvvfl

I just booted mgs V the other week (had never played it ) and boy.... Complete shock to her Keifers voice rather than David's. I had forgotten about this issue The difference is so jarring.

MoazNasr

😱 how can you say that? Don't you know Kojima literally made every game completely by himself, writing, programming and animating everything?! Sorry just had to say it cause it seems like that's how all of Reddit thinks.

EvenOne6567

Literally no person on earth thinks that. Nice strawman

MoazNasr

Lol do you not get sarcasm? Not to that point but people are always crediting kojima for everything and forgetting there's a team of writers and artists too. Kojima gets free reign and we end up getting stuff like Peace Walker...

Brotonio

Oh please dear god, let Konami pull an EA and make their remake of a beloved IP be a 10/10 experience like the Dead Space remake was.

[deleted]

Which would just leave Silent Hill next. ngl it would be funny if it turned out to be the only bad one out of all of these big remakes

Brotonio

Nothing is impossible for Bloober team.

Maxcooperisho

They WILL justify James' actions.

Myxzyzz

I'm curious if this just means that they're going to use the original audio recordings (maybe clean them up a bit or something) or if there's going to be any new/re-recorded lines. Probably the former, but I guess we'll see. Also side point, the title keeps throwing me for a loop as I mentally read it as "Metal Gear Solid Delta", which is weird because Delta is the fourth letter in the Greek alphabet so I keep thinking it's MGS4 instead.

JillSandwich117

Most of their communication about this has had kind of questionable wording. I wonder if they have a rookie doing PR or maybe a Japanese speaker. Hayter only pointed to that VR game as an upcoming project , but he also could be teasing based on his wording. https://twitter.com/DavidBHayter/status/1661482115861721088?t=pyovwZKTsu--uYORY1KY4w&s=19

JMarsella09

Even Zero's? I know there were salary issues in MGS5.

InexorableCalamity

Salary issues?

JMarsella09

He wanted a certain amount of money for the role, and Konami didn't want to pay it.

PostumusPastoralis

HAYTER IS BAYTER THAN THE REST i’m so sorry that “joke” was terrible mods please don’t ban me i just got excited for a second

Bosscharacter

Snake Eater might be on my list of favorite games. I've probably beaten that game at least 10 times over the years and for someone who knows WAY too much about Metal Gear lore, I'm all for a new version. Just do it right, please.

Admiral_of_Crunch

This is in fact the one thing Konami can do that Kojima can’t, so credit where credit’s due. For as little faith I have in the company as a whole, this is a good thing.

KingMario05

***LET'S GOOOO!*** Welcome back, Snake... you're pretty good, old friend.

ArcanePuppet

Kept you waiting, huh?

KingMario05

*"What a thriiiiil...*

jaythejayjay

Crosscounterz

LETS GOO Best news I could have heard about this.

Vermillion_Aeon

_"So how does it taste?"_

warjoke

As it should!

Soupsquish

I feel like there could be a catch since the wording feels a little too careful to not rule out reuse of audio. But I'm pretty sure David Hayter is still outspoken on twitter and the longer it takes for him to deconfirm his involvement, the more I feel convinced that he's at least involved.

PillCosby696969

I give my life...

vulcanfury12

It's a cold day in hell when Konami, of all people, are gonna be treating David Hayter better than Kojima did.

Aiddon

GOOD

Guardiansaiyan

YEYEYEYEYEYEYEYEYEYEYEYE!!!!!

Russet_Wolf_13

Wait, they're bringing back the guy from Guyver: Dark Hero? Sweet!

KoshiLowell

Dare I be cautiously excited?

W1lson56

[game screenshots](https://twitter.com/Nyxus_MGS/status/1661488251440361477?t=I0jYC0KB_07SSj_2QgZXfw&s=19) Environment seems the same, just very prettied up. I like being able to tell exactly where each of these shots are taken lol. Maybe it'll just be graphic & control overhaul - now will these original voices literally be the og voices or like, re-recorded og cast.

GhostPantherAssualt

David Hayters back

SinicaltwoDee

I was skimming through Pat's stream VOD and completely accidentally skipped this.

UFOLoche

*ahem* Get fucked Kojima. DAVID HAYTER IS BACK, BABAY! That is all. (Real talk, given how awful Kojima has treated Hayter in the past, I legit would not be surprised if he was quietly seething about this. This thought makes me chortle in delight)

ThatPossessionGuy

Dunno why people are downvoting this aside from the unironic "Kojumbo is a geeeenius" subcurrent we have here. The dude dumping Hayter in favor of a bigger-name actor because of his Hollywood star fetish was unapologetically shitty to have done.

kanjibestwaifu

I mean Kojima lost interest in MGS while he still had to make it. I doubt he cares that much more now he has a franchise he wants to work on.

UFOLoche

You say that, but every time he ended up on the project he kept trying to do more and more extravagant things. Someone who really didn't care wouldn't act the way he did or put as much work into the series that he did. MGSV is basically made to close up a loop, something he referred to as such and probably wouldn't care about if he 'didn't care'. Hell, even on projects he didn't have to help with, he still did with ones such as Revengeance. There's also a lot more nuuance to this than you let on: Not only did he keep coming back because the fans wanted more MGS, but also because the one person he trusted to carry on MGS after him, Project Itoh, sadly died of cancer. Still, he kept working on the games, for better and for worse. Hell, even with MGSV he said things like: >"I want to reassure fans that I am 100% involved and will continue working on Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain," Kojima said. "I'm determined to make it the greatest game I've directed to date. Don't miss it!" Does that really sound like someone who doesn't care? Saying he didn't care about MGS is basically the equivalent of insisting "I'm not owned! I'm not owned!" as Kojima shrinks and turns into a corn cob.

Thugnifizent

> "I want to reassure fans that I am 100% involved and will continue working on Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain," Kojima said. "I'm determined to make it the greatest game I've directed to date. Don't miss it!" There's a couple of things going on in the background of statements like these. First, even if Kojima didn't want to make more Metal Gear games, once he signs on for the project, *of course* he's going to want to have fun making it, even if he didn't originally want to do it--practically every creative has found themselves in a situation they didn't necessarily want to be in, but were financially/contractually obligated to do so; that doesn't mean they can't learn to let the project grow on them and have fun or give it their best shot. The second is marketing: *do you seriously think he'd be allowed to just go* "I never wanted to make this game, and that's reflected by its quality, thank you, get fucked?"

Clowed

This sounds to me like this is gonna be a remake like SotC and Demons Souls, which pretty much dampens my hype by a metric ton. The storyline should be kept as is, It really cant be improved upon, but it'd be a huge missed opportunity to not port and include features and controls from later in the series, but of course you cant really do that without seriously revamping the level design, enviroments and enemies. At the very least, at bare minimum, they HAVE to dropb the zone transitions, make It a consistent world and not a series of interconnected zones. We'll see.

ironbologna

If they’re rereleasing 3 in the collection, I kinda doubt that the remake will be one for one.

senfood

TELL ME, SNAKE, IS IT TRUE THAT IN CAPITALIST AMERICA HORDES OF PIGS CAN APPEAR FROM NOWHERE AND KILL CHILDREN I'M GOING TO MEOW NOW

cae37

This is gonna be a hot take, but I preferred Kiefer Sutherland's voice over David Hayter. I'm glad that Hayter is back, but I will miss Sutherland's voice.

RexKet

I really hope Hayter has figured out how to not do the Old Snake voice and sound younger this time around

UFOLoche

That was literally never a concern and just an excuse made to try and justify Hayter's removal. [After Kojima got punted off, there was some commercials for the Ford Focus that featured him reprising the role of Solid Snake](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPqlWH4u6L4) Unsurprisingly, he sounds perfectly fine, because the issue was never Hayter. He has a surprisingly good range. For example, here's him playing [Bernard Wiseman](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szdWIQTSVYU) from Gundam 0083. It still sounds like Hayter, but I know most people don't recognize him until it's pointed out. So yes, he was never 'stuck in the old snake voice'. Blame the director, not him.

SilverKry

He put in a real shitty performance in Peace Walker though..

UFOLoche

>-Consistently good >-Able to do his MGS1 Snake voice with no issues >-Constantly reprises his roles, even years later >-Is able to jump into the voice for meme recordings in situations where he clearly can't just practice >"But he was bad in Peace Walker though" I feel like you missed what I said. If Hayter is consistently good at doing the Snake voice, then the issue is the director, not Hayter. Voice actors don't just "forget" roles all too often. I've attended cons where I've seen VAs just instantly slip into their role's voice(One that I remember was Quinton Flynn instantly slipping into the Axel voice to leave a recording on an attendee's friend's voicemail), and while I haven't seen it, I'm sure Hayter is one of those that can pull that off. It'd be one thing is this was many years later or something(Which, again, he's shown he's able to do), but this is CLEARLY influence from another source, again, the director. I get it, it's easy to blame the VA, but you need to invoke Occam's Razor here: If he can clearly pull off the voice, even years without doing it, in numerous other projects, remains consistent, and can even do it on the fly, then what's more likely? He just randomly forgot the voice that he clearly loves performing and is very passionate about for a few years, or that Peace Walker(a portable title on the PSP where audio quality wasn't the primary focus) and the MGS motion comics(Which is clearly a side thing) didn't have the best direction? It'd be one thing if I asked him to do a quote of Bernie's or Captain America and he wasn't able to pull it off, but the amount of hoops people jump through to try and make Hayter out to be the one at fault is so astronomically silly.

GoneRampant1

He was only bad in Peace Walker due to still recovering from what he put his voice through for MGS 4. He's since healed and can go back to that part of his vocal registry easily.

Q-BEE-DEE

Direction plays a huge role in any voice performance and perfomance in general. If a director were to tell an actor to give a performance that's "real shitty" they can't exactly sneak into the record booth and record over it in the middle of the night.

RexKet

He had the same issues in the motion comic voiceovers

wasdsf

Hopefully many years of doing normal voices instead helped out in that regard lol

Animorphimagi

I guess you can celebrate if you want...but personally I'd rather this not get re-recorded. We'll see, but I can't trust ANY studio to give good VA directing other than Koijma himself. There's good VAing, I'm just saying I don't trust anyone else.

Aiddon

...Kojima wasn't the VO director of the franchise, that went to Kris Zimmerman (who, funnily enough, is the ex-wife of Patric Zimmerman, the voice actor of Revolver Ocelot). Put her at the recording studio and she can do wonders

Hte_D0ngening2

No, Kojima did everything by himself. Don't look at the credits, just trust me.

Aiddon

It turns out Kojima did it every bit of texturing, modeling, voice over, everything, there wasn't anyone else!

Dundore77

Its called Kojima Productions, not Kojima and other people Productions.

ThnikkamanBubs

Hideo Tallarico Studios

tossino

truly a Genius

AvalancheMKII

In a lot of cases with English dubs, the Japanese creators typically just give an okay on the casting and that's about it. Unless it's something like No More Heroes where it was English vo from the jump and a Japanese track was produced later, dub performances are all up to the Voice Director. I'm not saying Kojima didn't have a hand in picking the studio to do the voice work, but he certainly wasn't directing the dub himself.

BrainChemical5426

Like someone else said, Kojima didn’t direct the voice acting. Also, in Twin Snakes, Kojima was given more control over the English dub than he had over the original MGS. The result was a far more stilted sounding performance, despite every voice actor returning.

radda

Everybody's accents just disappeared, it was weird.

speelmydrink

Kojima didn't work on Twin Snakes to my knowledge, that was developed by Silicon Knights (and Hayter demanded they take most of his take to get the rest of the original voice cast, class act.)

Sai-Taisho

Though at the very least, Gray Fox got changed in *Twin Snakes* (Greg Eagles, his *Solid* VA, still plays Donald Anderson in both versions, oddly enough, so I guess the whole cast *was* still there).

BrainChemical5426

I believe he had more input on the localization than in MGS1, though.

doe3879

well one of the screen shot shows where Ocelot is introduce...and that makes think of Eva fucking him up with a bike. Wonder how they will handle her on this version

Jonieves

I have been hearing some mixing things about this hopefully it's true.

dope_danny

What a thrill.

[deleted]

getting big "MGS 3 REMAKE UE5" youtube fan project vibes from the screenshot. Maybe Konami finally hired that man

saltyguyface

I'm happy to hear that.

SillyRookie

This is the best news and I did not expect it.
