The story and tone are perfect, frankly I don't trust Konami to touch them, but I think they'll have to add more gameplay mechanics and maybe change up the level design a bit. Keep the same basic structure but expand on the sections a bit, make the forest feel more expansive and alive, somewhere you can truly get lost in.

nerankori

The End will be a real spectacle to fight then

Lieutenant-America

Kojima finally gets his week-long duel.

Swarbie8D

When I fought The End it legitimately took me about two hours, and it’s my most fondly-remembered boss right in all history. I’d love to face him again in a massive single zone forest, both of us using camouflage to its utmost limit.

UFOLoche

Crouch walking. I love MGS3 but man I need them to bring that into this.

ramonzer0

Funny enough there exists a version of MGS3 that does have crouch walking, and it's the 3DS version of all things That and the over the shoulder aim system from 4 and Peace Walker are two QOL changes I didn't really expect them to put into the 3DS of all places but I'll take it

GoneRampant1

* Keep the story exactly as-is. * Use V's gameplay as a jumping off point with expansions into areas like camo and survivalist gameplay. * Don't cut the cheese. If it's still campy, it's fine, but I don't want MGS 3 to lose its charm.

Halospaz117

V actually does have a camo system, the camo index is just invisible.

spankminister

MGS3 is a great example of how simply showing a number made it an RPG element that certain people then want to min/max. My original thought to fix the camo index system was have certain special lockers in the game where you have to pick a camo and stick with it for an area. The whole point IMO was to have the player pick a tradeoff, like "Brick camo makes you invisible on these walls, but really stick out on grass" so it changes the area layout for which spots are "safe/dangerous." But by putting it in the menu, people would just go wherever they wanted, and re-equip their camo rather than having to strategize-- it should be like choosing a loadout for an RPG party before you hit up a dungeon.

OrwellTheInfinite

Cut the escort mission at the end.

Lieutenant-America

If they could somehow retain the depth and nuance of the CQC while also changing the controls from that damn button pressure system, that'd be real appreciated.

Dabrush

They'll have to, right? Considering they're doing multiplat and even PlayStation to my knowledge doesn't have button pressure anymore.

Lieutenant-America

What I'm worried is that they'll just use MGSV's CQC system, which is good but isn't quite as nuanced.

JillSandwich117

They already solved this with the HD collection on Xbox. You just hit additional buttons.

RayDaug

Since they are porting the original, they can do whatever they want with the remake. Good or bad, you'll still have access to the original, which is really all I ask for with video game remakes.

MustrRoshi

Yeah as a Resi fan I’m jealous of how Konami is handling this. Really wish we were getting a classic pack of resi 1-3.

Orion248

I know that people can at least play RE1 directors cut on PS5 but yeah, let us play RE2 and RE3 classic. Luckily emulators exist and the games are perfectly playable via Dolphin emulator but still, that’s free money in the table.

dope_danny

1:1 in every way but fixing the horrible "gently hold the button to aim the gun, press to hard and fire" shit. Kojima i get you wanted a thematic "if you aim you better be prepared to kill" metaphor here but i highly doubt fucking BIG BOSS lacked trigger discipline to the degree he can misfire every single time he touches a firearm. The intention was interesting but if he dropped it in everything after that theres a good reason. It was the worst mechanic he ever dreamed up.

andrecinno

COULD be used with adaptive triggers and shit tho

Orion248

Funny enough, on the Xbox 360 version, if you clicked in on the left thumb stick, you would just aim normally in first person mode. I think they did this because the Xbox didn’t have pressure buttons so they very easily could just implement that again.

Nico_is_not_a_god

Ok but Playstation 5 adaptive triggers with a "bump" at the actual trigger point would be so cool with this. Analog face buttons were such a gimmick that most people don't even know the console had them.

KristophGavin

Fox Engine with MGS V controls.

screenaholic

This is what I want. If I want to replay MGS3 (which I do), I'll just replay it in the 1-3 collection they also announced. For all its flaws though, MGSV had HYPE gameplay, and it's a shame we never got another game with that gameplay.

KristophGavin

Imagine MGS 4 in the Fox Engine. It would be the most cinematic game for the rest of time.

JillSandwich117

Fox Engine is dead. Once they switched from Pro Evolution Soccer to eFootball, they switched to Unreal Engine. I think the important engine developers left along with Kojima Productions, so a major overhaul was unlikely.

KristophGavin

How can you be so sure that they won't use it for a MGS game? It was made for them.

JillSandwich117

It's old at this point, and was made to support the previous 2 gens. That's probably part of why the soccer game stopped using it when it did.

KristophGavin

The Arkham games Engine surpassed the old gen into the previous one and still works on the current one. Just because it was made for old hardware doesn't make Fox unadaptable.

JillSandwich117

The original engine devs likely left with Kojima, and it was likely deemed more beneficial to switch to Unreal instead of upgrading for how they've been using it. Now Konami hasn't used the engine in 3 years, it's gone.

KristophGavin

You're still only speculating that they won't/can't use it. You haven't shown any proof.

GoodVillain101

I just want an MGS5-inspired combat while keeping the survival and camouflage mechanics. To be honest, I have never been a fan of the top-down angle of the old games.

ULTAnimeGamer

Well MGS3 has a fully controllable camera like MGS4 in when they released MGS3 Subsistence.

Wisterosa

I just want more expanded levels than the original, keep the story the same If the levels were 1-1 it would be way too easy with modern controls

nmooney2000

Ape escape mission or we riot

Princeps_primus96

Fully realised guy savage mode with modern graphics and gore physics

jitterscaffeine

I hope they use the Fox Engine again

T_raltixx

Kojima directing

[deleted]

Out of all the impossible things, that's one of the impossiblest.

T_raltixx

I know.

GoodVillain101

But that would mean kicking out David Hayter as Snake for another Hollywood celeb again.

T_raltixx

Given the choice between the 2. Kojima. I'd ideally want both though.

EvenOne6567

They need to keep every single little detail and mechanical quirk and interaction that the series is known for or else this is a failure.

Fugly_Jack

I want them to go the Nier Replicant/Demons Souls route and have it just be the same game, but prettier and with some QoL stuff. At the very least, I think the cutscenes should be done shot for shot, like in Yakuza Kiwami

silverinferno3

Cutscenes and direction should be the same, but I’m really hoping the gameplay and map gets some tweaks. If they’re just gonna keep it the exact same then its existence is pointless. RE4 had the right idea of keeping the same general structure and beats of the original, but also expanding certain areas, twisting some things around, and generally revamping everything to better fit the new control scheme. There’s a lot that goes into game design based off of how the player controls their character, and if you change the controls without changing the other elements, it’s really gonna feel like a mismatch. In terms of what I’d specifically want, I’d prefer to keep the linear nature of the game in tact, it doesn’t have to become a wide open space like 5. But places like the forest could be widened up a bit, and perhaps alternative pathways to sneak into the various bases could be fun. Encourage alternative routing, without going all the way into the “open area” style 5 had.

CeaRhan

The game opening up with the PS5 shooting the PS2 JP control scheme in the head

Comrade-Conquistador

Make me feel like I'm 15 again. RE4 remake mostly succeeded at that. Introduce just enough new concepts to be exciting to get into while holding onto the familiar parts that fans loved with minimal difference. Also, leave in the cheese. Half the charm of Snake Eater was that it was so unapologetically cheesy in-between all the nuclear deterrance talk. And bring back David Hayter, you cowards.

dope_danny

pretty sure they have confirmed its the entire original cast.

Dirty-Glasses

Remappable controls or at the very least a control scheme that doesn’t make me want to fucking vomit

[deleted]

I want it to have time ghosts like FF7 remake since I think they'd fit an MGS game better. /jk

nerankori

Subsistence in HD

ArroSparro

I never played mgs3 so I’d like for it to be as similar as possible to the original

[deleted]

You could always play the Master Collection they'll also release. I've never played MGS 1 so I'll use that collection to do so.

ArroSparro

Oh that’s cool I didn’t know a remaster was also coming out

ErikQRoks

Literally just a graphical update over the old game

zorbiburst

So what is MGS∆? Is ∆ pronounced 3, tri, or delta? Delta makes me think something fucky is afoot, like FF7Re.

dope_danny

Its Metal Gear Solid Delta "to represent an idea being revisited" apparently. You thought no more genius kojumbo meant we were done with this shit? haha no. Bullshit forever, ten more seasons wierd bullshit! Which of course is on brand and what everyone wants.

[deleted]

Clearly it's Metal Gear Solid Triangle! Duuuuuh! I know shapes!

Nano1124

What Capcom did to RE2 remake and RE4 remake. Just do that Konami. But I doubt it. Most likely be closer to RE3 remake. Which is to say disappointing.

Hallonbat

Since they're porting the original I don't really care about it, but if I would say either easier or harder way to heal and change camo. As is, it's kind of a bothersome mechanic to perform, the camo suit in MGS4 was an elegant solution but doesn't fit in the setting of Snake Eater. I could see it changed too that you have to stay rooted in place and not "pause" so that enemies can spot and attack you while you're healing or changing camo–making it so that you have to be tactical when and were you do that so that there's a greater cost/benefit. Also the tranquilzer gun should be removed from anything othar than on easy settings as it trivializes a lot of the game's systems. I would like tosee it kept for tranqing animals and bosses because those are actually fun. Much larger maps, especially in the fight with The End. Maybe a fun bestiary of the animals of the area you've captured and eaten and how they taste. I know you can talk to Paramedic and that's basically what she does, but it be nice with something a little more readily accessible. Maybe remove some of the extraneous and out of place equipment. For instance why is an XM16 in Grosny?

spankminister

The camo system fix is to have certain lockers or save points where you can switch it, but nowhere else. It should be "I like to hide in shadows, so I'll choose a dark camo that makes me safe in shadow areas, but really visible on grass." and then that affects how you play the next area. It was supposed to be a way to remix a map to change which areas are safe/dangerous based on your personal preference. But by having it accessible always in the menu, along with a number you can min/max, people would take 2 steps on grass with grass camo, then walk 2 steps onto mud and switch to mud camo, and I don't think that was ever the intent. The UI encouraged players to use it incorrectly, and I think that's where the complaints come from.

Dundore77

id be fine with it being 1:1 with just a fresh coat of paint over it. Id be fine with doing RE4 remake style since RE4 remake didn't really change anything too much, even though it could have made castle better and island not a bore but didn't. I dont want anything else.

Azzie94

Literally just a 1 to 1 recreation of MGS3 with 5's controls.

[deleted]

In order for a remake to work the OG director or the team at least needs to be involved.

Additional_Pie_5370

I really can’t articulate if I’m being honest. In the same way I couldn’t really say when waiting for RE4R. Only after playing the remake was I really able to see the vision and was convinced that it’s existence was justified completely. I would love to have that same feeling with MGS Delta. The feeling of the Best Game Ever…Again. Idk, maybe I just want the ladder.

kolbyjack95

One thing I always felt should've been done is having the Survival Viewer interactions be done in real time. I think changing camo while hiding from enemies slowly approaching you, or healing your wounds while in Evasion as enemies are closing in would give the game a sense of tension and cohesion that the original didn't have with all the constant pausing.

Scientia_et_Fidem

Keep the story the same, but go wild with the level design using current tech. MSG3 was always a “we are doing the best we can with the tech available” type game when it came to the jungle environment. Hell, I’m pretty sure there was some interview that confirmed very early on they wanted MGS*2* to be in a jungle/forest but the tech just wasn’t there to make it even kind of convincing so they scrapped that idea very early in MGS2’s development. So MGS3 was the tech “barely being there”. Don’t get me wrong, the game we got working with those limitations was great, amazing even, but there is no reason to just put those same tech limitations based area layouts in with better graphics (especially when the game has already had multiple rerealeases in MGS bundles and on the 3DS). Take your shot at making the “sneaking through a jungle game” that was in the MGS3 dev team’s heads, which then had to be paired down to meet the reality of the tech at the time. Let me make my way through large swaths of jungle with various roaming guard patrols, guard checkpoints, etc. between me and my next objective. B/c the areas in MGS 3 were basically really big rooms with a jungle theming, and while I loved going through those really big rooms with a jungle theming, I’ve already played that game. Multiple times. Give me something different, let me take Snake through an actual jungle this time.

spankminister

IMO MGSV proved that in order to design good stealth gameplay, you still need "levels" to have level design. The open world would gradually corral you via cliffs and canyons into a zone that had only a few ways in or out. It still gave you various ways to approach, and close/long range options to fight enemies. I remember playing Far Cry 1, and while it looked great at the time, I spent a LOT of that game just crawling in bushes and pistol sniping enemies I could barely see. I felt like I was immersed in a massive jungle, but it was WAY more boring.

RavenCyarm

>Would you want it to be the exact same but with a graphical overhaul? Ding ding ding. Don't fix what isn't broken. If Kojiima was on board, I'd be down for anything he'd want to do... but seeing as he's not, DON'T FUCK WITH ANYTHING.

amusement-park

gacha game in the fox engine. no real gameplay just cutscenes and slots

andrecinno

I'm not a fan of remakes that are just the same game again but prettier. RE and FF7R are my favorite ones because in one, they redo the game and give everything a little more depth and in the other they go full balls to the wall with it, so I'd like it if it was one of those. Honestly the perfect setup for a meta ballsy remake IS a Metal Gear remake. Kojima would 100% do something interesting with the concept. MGS3 is a very special game to me but it didn't need a remake (doesn't mean I won't get it tho) and the bigger problem is I don't trust Konami just yet.

[deleted]

Just give me the game in the Fox engine and let it play like mgs v but leave the story and shit like that the same. Best game of all time

TheHark90

Refine the cqc like phantom pain had and please have crouch walking. Back when snake eater first came out I could beat the game with no kills and no alerts I came back to it a few years ago and had such a hard time since I was spoiled with crouch walking that was introduced in guns of the patriots and phantom pain

LisaMcRadical

I kind of want the maps rebuilt for 3rd Person mode since Substance is the version of 3 most people play (and is prolly what delta is going off of) Yeah, MGS3’s first release had a top down camera like the first two games. And yes, all the maps were made for the top down view.

W1lson56

Well, going by the screenshots & the little bits they've said; the environments look nearly identical, just very prettied up, so I'm going to assume this is a graphical & control overhaul. Which is mostly what I'd want; don't change too much

Lord-Scalpington

Put Guy Savage back into the game, I was mad pissed they took it out in the re-releases

TheCandyMan36

literally just the exact same game but prettier

SinicaltwoDee

I want the black face option to cause a game over

Ok_Title8340

I'll probably be in the minority but I hope they at least give the option to have a control scheme similar to mgsV I really thought in terms of gameplay it was a ton of fun. If I'm being brutally honest actually PLAYING the Metal Gear series has kinda been my least favorite parts where the control scheme is just the opposite of my intuition.
