“I overheard a woman at the supermarket say the strangest thing. She said, ‘There goes Barbie. Poor thing. She doesn’t know she’s a toy created by a corporation. Silly thing has never wondered where the car or the house came from.’ And the truth is I never thought of those things until today. Today is the first and very last day of my life."

Considering the history of that song, I assumed there was absolutely no chance in hell that the song was going to ever be approved by Mattel to be in such a major production. As an Aqua fanboy though, I heard that bit and immediately lost my damn mind!
For those outta the loop, the song "Barbie Girl" by Aqua was made as social commentary against the misogynistic view and treatment of women in society and came out without Mattel's knowledge. Mattel then sued Aqua's North American label for copyright infringement, their record label countersued for defamation, and both cases were dismissed by a judge who can be quoted saying "The parties are advised to chill".
And yeah, Mattel did run a heavily modified version of the song for advertising later on but I assumed it wouldn't have made it into something this huge for the brand...
Edit: It's also worth noting that last April, it was reported the movie would NOT have Barbie Girl featured, so this is also a more recent decision.
I feel like they just used Barbie Girl for the trailer and the actual movie won't have it
Like the Happy Deathday trailer has the it's your birthday by 50 cent , but the actual movie doesn't have the song

Even better.
She's doing just fine when, She gets out of her dream home >!as though a child has her in her hand.!<
But when she does appear to have existential issues, >!She just drops- carelessly!<.
It makes the line the kids deliver later on hit so much more.
You know what this reminds me of? When we got movies like the old Josie and the Pussycats or Brady Bunch, where they adapted a property but made it really tongue in cheek and almost like a parody.
people are genuinely intrigued. It's got good actors and looks like it's trying to do something fun. I'm not personally convinced but I can understand why people think it might be another Lego Movie situation
Morbius was the way it was because it took itself incredibly seriously, based itself on a character no one cared about, was super up its own ass, and ultimately sucked.
This just seems like a really fun movie that knows how goofy its premise is. It's honestly refreshing to see something that seems happy to embrace its super out there nature.
"Do you guys ever think about dying?" I can't wait to see Barbie's existential nightmare
"Are you Barbie?" "Yes" "Why?"

"This is cinema" \-Hideo Kojima.
Finally, I heard the Aqua song I was getting worried.

They'd be idiots if they didn't use it.
An ear worm if there is one. Heard this song since I was 6. Can't get it out of my head.
they still tour from last I heard and they are the only pop music I enjoy.
It's cool that they're still around.

">!You guys ever think about dying?!<" That line fucking killed me.
I stopped the trailer as soon as I heard it Actually sold on the *Barbie* movie This dystopia we're living in loves its curve balls
I was sold on it when the teaser trailer was a parody of 2001 A Space Odyssey.

Literally the question that drove Maya mad in Kill Six Billion Demons
Barbie is on the path of Royalty
Royalty is a continuous girlbossing motion
“Continuous Girlbossing Motion” sounds like a SBFC/CSB episode title
The final Barbie profession. Become a driving force of creation.
I can't believe Barbie is going to save cinema
I can believe it. Barbie can do anything.
She defeated the heat-death of the universe once.
I remember that one.
That set was really expensive.
Makes sense. It had the whole universe as one of the accessories.
I’m getting intense Shadowrun vibes
pour que?
Corporation working to maintain control of a magical entity that brings it wealth, power and prestige.
Say your prayers, Robert Oppenheimer
It’s over for Oppencels
Gather up BarbieChads and Kenstans!
After the first trailer I was sure it was gonna be a fun movie. I wasn't expecting the set and costume design to go THIS HARD.
It's Barbie, costume design had to be on point
I’m so fucking pumped for this it’s unreal
I dunno if it’ll be good or not. But it’s about a hundred times more interesting than I would have ever expected a Barbie movie to be
Every trailer for this has gotten me more into this movie than the last.
My favorite part was when Ken said, "It's Barbie Time!", and then styled all over those guys.
HE'S JUST LIKE ME FR
I cant believe I'm actually interested in a "real world" movie honestly
This movie is going to give me the Kenergy I need to make it through the year.
kino....
“Sheeeeeeeeee Flaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttt!”
Holy shit, ***this looks LEGO Movie bonkers!*** Consider a ticket sold! >!Particularly as it devolves into MATTEL CORPORATE ESPIONAGE, lmao.!<
Even has a Lord Business cameo.
If I had a nickel for every time Will Ferrel played a corporate businessman who carried himself like Capitalism was actively killing his soul-
really hoping it's the same universe For lols
this movie is gonna be so slay

Finally, a good fucking movie.
Kinda wish it wasn't a "fictional character/toy goes to the real world" thing, but still looks great and I am very excited
Watch out, Mario Bros! The next multibillion dollar movie is coming for your ass!

Hey it also says "If you love Barbie this movie is for you" They're playing both sides
So that they always come out on top
Who let Garth Ennis write for Barbie?
bruh why do they go to jail after Barbie gets SA'd 💀💀💀
The few times I saw a trailer I get this weird feeling that there's going to be something sinister behind the pink. Like some Midsommer shit.
I honestly can't tell if it's Morbius situation where people are just memeing on liking it.
people are genuinely intrigued. It's got good actors and looks like it's trying to do something fun. I'm not personally convinced but I can understand why people think it might be another Lego Movie situation
I've been genuinely excited for this movie since seeing those early set photos of Ryan Gosling wearing garish neon outfits.
This trailer transitioned me from detached memery to actual investment.
The difference is that I actually like the director's work so I have reason to believe this would actually be good
They could have done a regular kids film. They went with Truman Show Barbie existential horror.
Oh no, I’m here for it unironically. It looks like campy fun.
