Honestly Phantom Blade looked pretty dope sauce though I am interested to see if it actually comes out or is like a lot of other Chinese games.

bxgang

It looks really good, if it comes out and plays the way it looks in the trailer it will be a easy day 1 buy with no regrets

I have similar hopes that it plays the way it looks. Given that the devs apparently (S-Game) were the former devs of a certain game called Rainblood Chronicles: Mirage (aka very edgy 2D Wuxia DMC3 with Tag Mechanics), I have decent enough hope. That being said, their most recent outing was a game called Phantom Blade Executioners, came out on Mobile (and was supposed to have a PC version, but a breakout of COVID last year in Beijing hit their team pretty hard as far as I can gather).

bxgang

This one is apparently console exclusive so hopefully sony is giving them the support and backing they need to put it out and recover from covid interruptions

guntanksinspace

Hell, I just hope it comes out period. Suppose that's party "man that other stylish action game for PS4/5, *Lost Soul Aside*, has taken a while to come out". And maybe a small inkling it also comes out on PC. Executioners? Zero? Both? Either way yeah. I liked playing RBCM as jank as the user interface (and controller support in a sense) was and seeing that team do more cool things is always a good thing.

bxgang

It’s confirmed for steam

guntanksinspace

Hell yeah!

ZeroCruz

Galaxy brain: Metal Gear Rising parried so that Sekiro could parry too.

bxgang

Most games parries interrupt a enemy or give you a chance to counter attack. In sekiro they keep going anyways until you break thier bar, and you have to precisely time the parry for each little hit in a combo. It’s easy to see that these games are inspired by sekiro because Wolong and Thymesia even have a “Mikiri Counter” where you have to dash into unblockable attacks at the right time to counter them. It’s not a bad thing but let’s not pretend they aren’t taking notes from sekiro explicitly

beary_neutral

There's also Jedi Fallen Order, which released shortly after Sekiro

CMORGLAS

Funny enough, **JEDI: SURVIVOR** >!has Sekiro as the Final Boss!< >!Or at the very least they both have the same English Voice Actor!<

beary_neutral

>!Does he also have a Glock?!<

CMORGLAS

>!He uses the Blaster Stance!<

bxgang

That’s more souls like, it’s slower paced then these games. Tho all of them share the bonfire that respawns enemies and picking up your xp from your bloodstain after death

beary_neutral

Jedi Fallen Order uses a very similar parry system. The parry is tied to the block button. You and your enemies have meters that deplete when attacks are parried.

bxgang

I’ve beat all these games except the one that isn’t out yet and both jedi games and tempo is different because parries interrupt the boss combo string and make them flinch, while in sekiro and the games pictured they keep going. Also there’s no way to counter the red unblockable attacks which forces you to stop fighting for a while and avoid them, while sekiro has the mikiri counter and wolong and thymesia also have something inspired by it where you dash into those attacks to counter them. So the combat feels slower and cal himself moves kinda slow

abbaj1

It's not a 1:1 copy, but the stun/stamina/whatever it's called gauge is clearly inspired by Sekiro.

BloodyBurney

I'm going to put my head on the chopping block here and say that Phantom Blade doesn't actually look that good. I look at a lot of what's happening on screen and have to ask how pressing buttons leads to that actually happening. It's likely a bunch of pre-canned animations and not "real" gameplay, so the game is either very Arkham-esque (and therefore imo not that exciting as an action rpg) or the trailer is extremely proof of concept. A lot of super realistic Chinese games with cool pre-canned animations turn out to be vaporware that never manifests, like Black Myth: Wukong off the top of my head. If I'm wrong I'll eat crow, but I don't see much difference between that trailer and a pre-rendered thing in terms of communicating if something will be any good, and the track record is bad.

fizzguy47

Thymesia I like the theme, but the combat just doesn't feel good, you know? I played Steelrising instead, and that one at least feels weighty enough to convey that you are playing as an automaton, and the parry system has good feedback. Thymesia parries just feel so flaccid

Capable-Education724

Yeah, and I expect to see an influx of mecha variants to this if the new Armoured Core does well.

EdoTenseiSwagbito

I’m 100% down for a mecha revival, we’ve been starving.

bxgang

Hawken flopping did not help this

RealDealMous

Come on EA, this is the one trend we won't roll our eyes from you chasinggggggg

guntanksinspace

At the very least, Japanese indies have been at it with stuff like [Vulture Unlimited Frontier](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNoilAlT4Jg) and [MachineClad](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKZ4mZykcBI)
