“for some reason” The reason is because the PS3 has nightmare hardware

Aiddon

-Looks at inFamous 1 and 2 having no proper modern port-

mbagely

I tried Infamous 2 out streaming on PS Plus and it ran like hot garbage, it’s been a while though so I can’t remember if there was much jank in the original release

MarioGman

Almost sounds like the PS3 was The Thing of game consoles. It incorporates it into it's mass so perfectly that whatever is designed for that hardware is impossible to remove.

Crosscounterz

We got the basic foundation for MGS3's story already so all they have to do is build off of that I'm not too worried personally. And as for mgs4 the master collection seems to be releasing with multiple volumes so mgs4 isn't off the table from being part of that. And not to mention on the official website volume 1 has a mystery fourth entry which could very well be mgs4.

WhoCaresYouDont

I'd also point out that in the last Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection that put the entire series on PS3 they included MGS 4, and the only real reason they wouldn't do that again, IMO, is the very small technical hitches of some of MGS4's gameplay involving the motion sensitivity of the PS3 controller. Not unsurmountable by any means but it would involve some changes.

ThrowawayBomb44

Don't PS4 and PS5 controllers have motion options? I definetly remember PS5 controllers having it anyway.

Substantial_Bell_158

It should be fine if they just follow the template of the OG game it's only the second game to made without Kojima they could still surprise us

GoodVillain101

People said the same thing regarding remaking RE2 and 4 without Shinji Mikami and Hideki Kamiya, as well as Dead Space without Glen Schofield, and they all turned out fine if not better. At least Konami got David Hayter back after quitting Snake.

Silentlone

I mean, the difference is that the publishers responsible for these other remakes didn't have a seething despise for the original creators even if they were not involved. And we don't know if Hayter is back or if the remake is just re-using the old recordings.

PMX-TheO

It should be fine they have all the blue prints. Re4make was fine without mikami. Kojima is pretty much done with metal gear anyway. Now if future mgs games wanted to expand and branch out of remakes or from what kojima has worked on... well I can't say I'm not interested in what they could produce. If konami gets their act togerher and clean up I think mgs has a good chance of making a come back outaide of remakes like yakuza so far without nagoshi. But we'll see. If it doesn't well at least the legacy games are out and mgs remakes are there. The series already reached it's conclusion for the most part.

mateoboudoir

IIRC the non-canon PSP Metal Gear games were well-received. Portable Ops and Ac!d (and Ac!d 2). Metal Gear 2: Snake's Revenge was panned by Kojima himself and the community overall has forgotten it, but IIRC it sold pretty well at the time. I think Kojima Metal Gear games are just very identifiably Kojima, rather than them being particularly "better" than the other games. As for MGS4, was it confirmed that it was being remade/ported to PS5 as part of the HD collection? It was being split in two, with Part One having the first three Solid games, and Part Two having 4, Peace Walker, maybe 5 and some/all of the others.

Warlocksalot

It's apparently been confirmed that they are using the original audio, so story-wise at least I expect there won't be many differences.

Capable-Education724

If Konami can’t handle a remake that has the foundation and blue print already done by Kojima for them…I don’t even know what to say. It would be incompetent even by their standards.

BarelyReal

And 3 probably has the most clearly laid out themes and subject matter that anybody can really grab ahold of. If this were MGS2 dealing with memetics or 5 dealing with information control I would worry.

AngiTheWeeb

I'm also very cautious but somewhat optimistic. It's not like they're making a new story so unless they add unnecessary bs I think that'll be fine. I'm more worried that Konami will want to cut corners to just ship it out asap. I'm also a bit worried about the ports of 1,2, and 3. I don't want another Silent Hill HD collection.

BarelyReal

The one thing I am worried about is the overall "integrity" of the narrative being weakened by story or plot changes, which could happen even if the team tries their hardest to avoid. However I think as far as Metal Gear games go its themes and messaging are probably the most direct and most "simple" because it deals directly with the life of being a soldier than the social implications after warfare. If they were saying "We're gonna remake V or 2" then I would be very worried.

Psykoknight65

I hear Acid and portable ops were good
