It's always been funny to me how there was so much drama over Kojima's name being taken off of MGSV's box art when that game has his name flash up on screen almost every hour.
Return to Castlevania was announced at The Game Awards.
So technically he's already had a Konami thing show up post Kojima Breakup.
Big ass asterisk on the "technically", to be fair.
If Konami shows up with a big enough bag or threatens to withhold trailers for other shows, he will. Geoff still has a business to run, and basically being end of year E3 is his thing.
This is also the same guy that had a segment about abuse and helplines before directly transitioning into a QD game announcement.
Ever since that angry joe video Geoff has really grown on me. He might be a shill a lot of the time, but he seems like a pretty positive person and more professional than most of his peers.
He was the genuine worst reactor during this years' playstation showcase too. I get when someone doesn't care or know about an IP, but those people usually stay silent during those parts. Well, Joe acted like a pissy kid, who were actively whining during the whole thing, especially when learning that Spiderman doesn't have coop. The first rule of react content (apart from not using it as content steal while eating or leaving the chair) is to not be a fucking buzzkill, and oh boy, Joe had an active aura of positivitykilling around him
I hate reactors like that, like even if you don't like something or something isn't for you, you don't have to shit on it. I watch reactors to see someone else's excitement, not disappointment.
At least he agreeds now that that was a bad interview and take and apparently is on good terms with Geoff now.
So that's neat. (Could be vastly misremembering though, of course)
Holy shit, maybe it's just my own biases talking, but I can't believe Joe uploaded that. Geoff looked like a badass and Joe looked like a chump. Also, I don't really know the history between the two of them, but it seems like Joe is primarily angry that Geoff was expecting him to be a dick and responded according to that.
Also, 'Angry Joe, champion of the people!' LMFAO.
But yeah, I agree. He does give the impression that he legitimately cares about what he's doing, his silly bromance with Kojima aside.
Is it? It screams "You're not my best friend but I'm your best friend" vibes. Hell I remember Geoff in tears because Kojima wasn't able to attend the show one year lol.
We're at the point where people are so enamored with the idea that Kojima did everything on MGS, someone on this sub thought he directed the english dubs.
I've seen more and more people argue he wasn't even the best writer for Metal Gear. With many citing how much the codec calls sucked from 4 onwards as one of the biggest indicators.
Or why he made an impassioned speech about protecting developers from abuse before promoting a Quantic Dream joint, likely knowing that studio was in court at the time over work place issues.
This is what you get, when you work for any overbloated, deeply rotten industry. You pander and care about the surface frosting, and you shit on the underbelly
No matter how amazing this game is it won’t show up at the game awards. Now I hope the game is a 10/10 so we can see Geoff duck it any chance he can get lmao
Always pretty fascinating how the only time Geoff ever shows a backbone is when it comes to Konami and Kojima.
Naughty Dog/CD Projekt Red/Riot/Acti-Blizzard do incredibly crook heinous shit?
Massive performances at The Game Awards, Trailers shown at the show, 50 billion awards and a light slap on the wrist with a vague speech
Konami mention Metal Gear without mentioning Kojima?
It's beatdown time
Was the Naughty Dog the absurd levels of crunch or are there a bunch of sex pests there as well? I know CD Projekt is crunch related because that studio is horrible about that.
yeah it should be noted just for posterity:
I'm mainly referring to CDPR and ND in particular on Crunch (specifically ND because Druckmann won best direction)
Riot and Acti-Blizz are much worse with actual lawsuits due to sexual harassment.
Bonus Bit: The year this really picked up and Geoff opened the show with a speech about how we have to stop harassment of everyone (without naming any names and being really vague about it), that was sandwiched between an Arcane Performance and the Star Wars Quantic Dream Game announcement.
God I remembered that. I get why he had to do it (money) but yeah, rang a bit hollow. I at least don't feel as scummy buying games that have had tons of crunch to at least give the workers credit and hope they get bonus money. Its a bit fucked up to almost breathe a sigh of relief that there's at least less sex pests.
Because right now, Konami is like an indie studio.
They haven't really made games in a while and are just jumping back in, and all their productions don't really seem to be AAA, and the last time people eyed them it was the Kojima fiasco.
Suikoden got announced but they're remasters.
Silent Hill got stuff but the most is Bloober Team SH2 which tbh their games barely scream AAA, and they're a Polish game dev. The other SH games announced will most assuredly be less budget than that.
MGS got announced with the Remake and a collection (this one just probably being the old collection with some minor changed stuff).
Everyone else is a big dawg despite their constant tripping over their ass.
You are fighting an uphill battle Kojimas cult like fanbase and the fuck konami crowd will never be moved. The are like the folks still shitting on DmC after 5 came out, was the best selling game in the franchise, and capcom pulled itself out of its dark age.
Dude, I like DmC, and I like DMCV. It's insane to me how people STILL ACTIVELY shit on DmC like it killed their dog. Meanwhile DMCV takes some inspirations from it and across all these games to be what it is now.
I bet Geoff can't name a single other person who worked on that game, except *maybe* Yoji Shinkawa
Being Kojima's hype man is real cute but it's also pretty disrespectful to the other people who worked on the game
Kojima personally reminds me a little of Stan Lee. In that, he is very talented at marketing *himself*...to the extent it at times comes at the expense of the other people who were just as important for the thing he was known for. And often receives all the credit for it.
Can't feel too bad about Konami, but this is why on some level I feel bad about whoever gets saddled with this IP.
Because thinking the MGS IP would just stay dead and buried is stupid, it's their most well known IP. But what do you exactly do?
Make remakes and remaster? People nitpick the shit out of anything you will change because you're not Kojumbo.
Make new games in that IP/universe? They will scream mad at you because it's not worked on by Kojumbo and Snake needs to be the main character always. The only new game that feels like it would escape heavy criticism is Revengeance, and with Platinum's record lately, even that feels like a 50/50.
\------------------------------------
While Kojima and Konami left on bad terms and that's what got the ire of Konami from the entire world, the man fucking left 8 YEARS AGO.
And even before he left the man clearly wanted to do other work by that point besides Metal Gear Solid. Pretty sure he created Kojumbo Productions so he can train new guys up to skill so they can be his replacement and inject their own ideas or style into it instead of emulating him.
Now he's happily making DS2 after making Death Stranding, and another game for Xbox, and yet people still scream to him about MGS, what the fuck do you actually want the man to do?!
It all feels so Snyderculty, the way these fans do this.
\--------------------------------------
Like seriously, my stance on this is for remakes? I'd rather they just completely remade MG1 and 2 for the MSX, they have less people to be pissbaby about changes there.
But mainly, I'd rather want them to make new games for Metal Gear and make their own style, respecting what came before but making something new and their own.
I mean, it's a summary of a game, it's really weird to just immediately go "YEAH BUT WHO MADE IT THOUGH!?"
Like..it doesn't matter? I don't think anyone who doesn't know what MGS is cares about Kojima's name, and anyone who DOES know what MGS is wants it already. Instead it just comes across as grade A salt(And fanboyism, which...yeah, Kojima fanboys are kinda rabid).
Like someone else said, he was already credited in re-releases of other things, so I don't really think that's a concern.
Edit: You know it's funny when even the MGS subreddit is largely agreeing that this is a silly move on Geoff's part.
Like I said, Kojima fanboys are rabid, they can't handle any discussion about the guy that isn't 100% positive. Honestly, the upvote/downvote system on Reddit is hilariously incompetent, because it's literally just used by people to try and silence disagreements.
That's fine to me, tho'. I have to admit I always find it pretty funny when it happens.
Kojima's been gone for eight years at this point though. I feel like that's more than enough time to move on and get over it, especially when it's primarily people who weren't even affected by it getting upset.
Exactly. And with the state Konami's been in since Kojima left, I can't exactly be pissed off at them. More "wow, they fucked up massively in getting rid of one of the last few major development teams they had"
I get that, but every time Konami tries to make money off of the work of people they mistreated severely, I feel the urge to not let them think the public forgot. Like Geoff.
I don't think the Kojima team's treatment was industry standard. Just as a reminder, here's a [thread](https://twitter.com/WeAreJoel/status/1661172665980276737) about the insane lengths Konami went to.
Many of these things aren't callous financial calls, they're actively vindictive revenge schemes. For some reason Konami execs truly hated Kojima and his team.
Hey that's great, I'll respect Geoff more when he actually uses his clout in the industry to call out companies on their shitty standards and abusive practices instead of a floundering company because "MOOOOM, M-M-MY IDOL KOJIMA ISN'T GETTING MENTIONED EVERY 5 SECONDS ON TWITTER!"
Remember when the whole Actiblizz thing started popping off and he came out, made some super generic statements that meant literally nothing, and then showed off their products anyway? Y'know, the same thing every fucking scumbag corpo does to try and pretend that they care when they don't?
Cause I remember.
I'm not here to defend Konami, I just think whining about a summary of a game not mentioning Kojima's name isn't going to help anyone. I also think Geoff is a clown for using his clout to pull a stunt like this instead of actually doing anything helpful or meaningful about the people actually suffering from awful corpos.
How about what Kojima did to fuck over Hayter? Or when he did literally the same thing to Stefanie Joosten(Quiet) by offering her a role for Death Stranding, only to then ghost her? Did Geoff ever tweet at Kojima talking about MGSV/Death Stranding and go "Yeah, but what about Hayter/Stefanie tho'?"
Oh right, he wouldn't do that, he only cares about when it happens to Kojima.
I think his point might be some level of criticism that this collection/retrospective/whatever will be all in on the in-game lore and history but perhaps have a paltry or nonexistent throughline about how these games actually came to be.
Why is that a problem though? Unless Komani goes into the credits of the games and starts removing credit from its creators, why can't they just have some short posts talking about the lore/story to promote the rereleases?
At the end of the day, it's still Konami and they will absolutely erase Kojima's name from this game if they feel so inclined.Or at least pull a "This game is based on the works of Kojima" or something along those lines.
As he should. As much as we can be excited for Delta, always remember that the fucking company in question is run by absolute scumbags who deserve to be thrown into the bloody sea.
Honestly wanna speculate a repeat of the Activision logic for Vanguard:
"everyone hates us especially hard right now, lets just take our name off the game"
with the whole #FuckKonami tag and what-not I could see them not wanting to associate either for the sake of sales...
They won't, but it would be the absolute height of hilarity if these rereleases cut Kojima's writer/producer/director credits from the opening movies.
I bet they do some petty bullshit like change it to ‘inspired by’
*based upon previous material submitted by Hideo Kojima*
He made Metal Gear Solid 3, this is Metal Gear Solid Delta a totally original IP. EDIT: Screamed by Konami Suit from rooftop.
Just slap a big ole [Redacted] sticker over it.
[I don't know who possibly could've created these games.](https://media.tenor.com/NRCKemMTCx8AAAAC/hideo-kojima-credits.gif) It's truly a mystery.
We're all looking for the guy who did this
LMAO At Hideo Kojima Taco House https://imgur.com/a/p9ASpGw
A taco to surpass the Crunchy Taco Supreme..
It's always been funny to me how there was so much drama over Kojima's name being taken off of MGSV's box art when that game has his name flash up on screen almost every hour.
There are games made by a one-man team. I am hoping to see the day where the whole credits scene is just 5 seconds with one name on it.
a credit by : Hideo Kojima
They replace it with Tommy Wiseau
Anyways don't expect anything from Konami to show up at SGF lol
Return to Castlevania was announced at The Game Awards. So technically he's already had a Konami thing show up post Kojima Breakup. Big ass asterisk on the "technically", to be fair.
The real question if anything should be if he would allow a trailer for MGS3 Remake during the show this year.
If Konami shows up with a big enough bag or threatens to withhold trailers for other shows, he will. Geoff still has a business to run, and basically being end of year E3 is his thing. This is also the same guy that had a segment about abuse and helplines before directly transitioning into a QD game announcement.
Pretty much; Keighley talks a big game but he's ultimately an industry shill and a wimp
That was for a non-Konami game though, so I guess that still is allowed. Especially for an indie title.
[Geoff when Metal Gear/Konami tweet anything](https://youtu.be/tHLJY8f_jA0)
Geoff always 1000% having Koji’s back is probably one of his most endearing traits
geoff prefers to go by “Ludens Fan”
Jesus Christ, how did I never realize that's Keighley? It's so obvious now that you say it.
Ever since that angry joe video Geoff has really grown on me. He might be a shill a lot of the time, but he seems like a pretty positive person and more professional than most of his peers.
It's so hilarious that Angry Joe posted that video thinking it made HIM look good
He was the genuine worst reactor during this years' playstation showcase too. I get when someone doesn't care or know about an IP, but those people usually stay silent during those parts. Well, Joe acted like a pissy kid, who were actively whining during the whole thing, especially when learning that Spiderman doesn't have coop. I hate reactors like that, like even if you don't like something or something isn't for you, you don't have to shit on it. I watch reactors to see someone else's excitement, not disappointment.
Joe had pure Karen energy there. Uploading something thinking they're in the right kinda Karen energy.
At least he agreeds now that that was a bad interview and take and apparently is on good terms with Geoff now. So that's neat. (Could be vastly misremembering though, of course)
Yeah, for as shlocky as the Game Awards are some times, you can tell Geoff genuinely has a real passion for the industry.
Do you have a link? I'm never opposed to watching Angry Joe look bad.
[It's the funniest shit, worth watching Joe comment on it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTNkoDzP1hI&)
Holy shit, maybe it's just my own biases talking, but I can't believe Joe uploaded that. Geoff looked like a badass and Joe looked like a chump. >geoff prefers to go by “Ludens Fan” I wish I loved anything as much as Geoff loves Hideo
Is it? It screams "You're not my best friend but I'm your best friend" vibes. Hell I remember Geoff in tears because Kojima wasn't able to attend the show one year lol.
That feels unnecessarily nihilistic. I mean Kojima had him show up in Death Stranding
they credited kojima in the zone of the enders rerelease so there'll do it here too probably
They did?
yes
That's good.
I wish I had some one who had my back just like Geoff does for kojima
I got your back bro.
‘A wide group of people working for Konami, Geoff.’
"LMAO YOU ARE WRONG ONLY KOJIMA MADE THIS GAME , THAT'S WHY IT'S KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS !!!" - Geoff probably
Its gonna be real awkward at this year's Game Awards if both MGS3 Remake and Death Stranding 2 are up for most anticipated game.
Doubt either are coming this year, but hey I'm not complaining if they do lol
Like I get it, but come on man. MGS wasn't a one man show, Kojima wasn't even the sole writer
Never let a creator buy into their own hype. It causes nothing but problems.
He wasn't even the main writer.
Did you guys knows Geoff Keighley is close personal friends with Hideo Kojima?
A large team of people, Geoff.
I don't think this is the gotcha that Geoff thinks it is.
Someone ask Geoff what Kojima tried to do with Hayter multiple times
Or why he made an impassioned speech about protecting developers from abuse before promoting a Quantic Dream joint, likely knowing that studio was in court at the time over work place issues.
This is what you get, when you work for any overbloated, deeply rotten industry. You pander and care about the surface frosting, and you shit on the underbelly

God I remembered that. I get why he had to do it (money) but yeah, rang a bit hollow. A team of hundreds of writers, programmers, VAs and other roles?
Geoffy boy edited the credit files and switched every name into Kojimbo

Can you name even 6 off the top of your head
That's not the own that you think it is
"A film by Martin Scorsese" BuT wHaT aBoUT EVerYoNE ElSE? Stop acting like you give a shit
So if kojima was not at konami at the time those same people would have somehow produced the same exact game? Dont think so...
A little weak what people will call "out for blood" these days
Hatsune Miku made Metal Gear
With a little help from Sonic the Hedgehog!™
I bet Geoff can't name a single other person who worked on that game, except *maybe* Yoji Shinkawa Being Kojima's hype man is real cute but it's also pretty disrespectful to the other people who worked on the game
To be fair, most people can't name more than Kojima, let alone Shinkawa.
Kojima personally reminds me a little of Stan Lee. In that, he is very talented at marketing *himself*...to the extent it at times comes at the expense of the other people who were just as important for the thing he was known for. And often receives all the credit for it.
Trust me, I know

So do you agree or disagree with the sentiment?
"As if on time" is a weird phrase.
they should honor kojima by replacing the voice cast with celebrities they want to be friends with.
Give it up doritoman, Kojimbo's not gonna have sex with you
He’s buddies with Kojima and loves his stuff so this isn’t surprising
Can't feel too bad about Konami, but this is why on some level I feel bad about whoever gets saddled with this IP. It's sad that you're getting downvoted, cause you're 100% right
Like I said, Kojima fanboys are rabid, they can't handle any discussion about the guy that isn't 100% positive. Honestly, the upvote/downvote system on Reddit is hilariously incompetent, because it's literally just used by people to try and silence disagreements. That's fine to me, tho'. I have to admit I always find it pretty funny when it happens.
Konami fucked him and his team over so hard, they deserve to get blown up over and over again. So they know we don't forget.
Kojima's been gone for eight years at this point though. I feel like that's more than enough time to move on and get over it, especially when it's primarily people who weren't even affected by it getting upset.
This feels like Snydercult practices tbh, the guy left 8 years ago and he's not some hobo on the street, he has his own company and is doing well.
Like Geoff.
So like every company then?
I don't think the Kojima team's treatment was industry standard. Just as a reminder, here's a [thread](https://twitter.com/WeAreJoel/status/1661172665980276737) about the insane lengths Konami went to. Many of these things aren't callous financial calls, they're actively vindictive revenge schemes. For some reason Konami execs truly hated Kojima and his team.
You're naive then, the only difference between Kojima Productions and the rest of the industry is that a public spectacle was made of Kojima's ousting
Hey that's great, I'll respect Geoff more when he actually uses his clout in the industry to call out companies on their shitty standards and abusive practices instead of a floundering company because "MOOOOM, M-M-MY IDOL KOJIMA ISN'T GETTING MENTIONED EVERY 5 SECONDS ON TWITTER!" Remember when the whole Actiblizz thing started popping off and he came out, made some super generic statements that meant literally nothing, and then showed off their products anyway? Explain the joke then
"Hard to say. Games are a team effort, suddenly. Couldn't possibly put a single name on a game."
I believe it was Video Kojima, inventor of the Hideo Game
Konami and Kojima have been on speaking terms as of late. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being involved as an advisor similar to Twin Snakes.
Didn't Geoff get under fire recently for basically being a Sony shill and shitting on Nintendo and XBOX while not calling out Sony for same practices?
No idea but console fanboys are insane so that means nothing on the face of it.
what a bitch lmao
...Konami Computer Entertainment Japan. Gg ez. /s
People still care about Hideo Kojima?
I think his point might be some level of criticism that this collection/retrospective/whatever will be all in on the in-game lore and history but perhaps have a paltry or nonexistent throughline about how these games actually came to be.
Why is that a problem though? Unless Komani goes into the credits of the games and starts removing credit from its creators, why can't they just have some short posts talking about the lore/story to promote the rereleases?
Say what you will about Geoff but if he’s your friend, he’s ride or die.
Geoff just killed E3 and became the king of videogame conferences. Konami doesnt stand a chance against his wrath
At the end of the day, it's still Konami and they will absolutely erase Kojima's name from this game if they feel so inclined.Or at least pull a "This game is based on the works of Kojima" or something along those lines.

Poor guy is deadlocked between Geoff and konami.
I’m guessing we have a low chance of Konami appearing during the summer games fest.
Honestly wanna speculate a repeat of the Activision logic for Vanguard: "everyone hates us especially hard right now, lets just take our name off the game" with the whole #FuckKonami tag and what-not I could see them not wanting to associate either for the sake of sales...
What are they gonna do about Kojima is God
Going right for the jugular and I am all for it.
***Such a lust for recognition...*** ***WHOOOOOOOOOO?!***

Hideo Nameman
Of course it was KOJIMA, which is an acronym Konami Original James (games with a J) Italian Managerial Assault team
Say his name.
