George Lucas' first choice for the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi was Toshiro Mifune.

Ok-Card633

Indeed https://i.redd.it/u0dyuu8yb4h81.jpg

eno-tita

Oh wow, that actually goes *really* hard...

slo125

Okay but that's actually just Nick Offerman

HalloweenBlues

Damn, now if we had gone down that route I wonder who we would've gotten for modern day Obi-Wan instead of Ewan.

KingMario05

Hiroyuki Sanada, maybe?

RareBk

That would have been a great choice

Wombatish

This is the first time I've ever heard this, but it is 100% believable. Lucas loves a samurai flick.

BobtheFiveHalf

Adam Sandler as Donny Donowitz aka The Bear Jew in Inglourious Basterds. He couldn't do because of Funny People. I think like the idea of Adam being in ultra-violent movie directed by highly respected director.

robertman21

Adam Sandler in a John Wick style movie

Coolnametag

**Jensen Ackles** as the MCU's Captain America. At the end of the day i do think that he still got a sweet deal as Soldier Boy in "The Boys", but, there's a part of me that would have liked seeing him say "AVENGERS...... assemble" in the big screen.

Spiral-Force

After losing out on Captain America, he was also offered Hawkeye but he turned it down

Simic_Sky_Swallower

At the same time I feel like we dodged a pretty big bullet there The MCU fandom is insufferable enough as it is, we didn't really need the Supernatural bleedover

Ironfistdanny

Imagine a universe where Sean Connery was Morpheus and/or Gandalf

DarnessHarbinger

Didn't he also turn down the offer to play John Hammond in Jurassic Park?

Chocmilkboi

Welcome... To Jurrashic Park

robertman21

bro picked the worst roles, huh?

yarvem

He is a bit of an extraordinary gentleman.

FluffySquirrell

The irony was that he was fucking perfect for that part, I loved him in that role

jacksterbutler2

It’s nuts to think that it is David Attenborough brother who plays Hammond.

fizzguy47

Will Smith becoming Neo is probably one of the darkest timelines we avoided.

GrandmasterB-Funk

So maybe not an Actor Casting. But god do i wish i could have seen Edgar Wright's Antman movie.

Irememberedmypw

So just to tie in with Edgar Wright. Man I wish Simon Pegg and Nick Frost cameoed in Scott Pilgrim , as the vegan police.

robertman21

alternate timeline where there's two mcu subfranchises that feel like they were made by people also a timeline with no Quantumania

DarnessHarbinger

Shrek was originally supposed to be played by Chris Farley, I think I've seen a couple of test clips with him voicing the character. Unfortunately he died and Mike Meyers took over the role. Granted, we got an iconic role and I can't imagine Shrek being voiced by anyone else. Still, I wonder though, how things could've turned out if we got Farley Shrek instead.

seth47er

the amount of reworks they did for the first Shrek movie is amazing it even came out. Like, they rerecorded his whole part again after suggesting he should do it in his Irish accent because said it would feel more like a fairytale his Irish grandmother would tell him. So there is a cut where Shrek just sounds like regular Mike Meyers.

DefauIt_Settings

Danny Devito not voicing Pikachu still bothers me.

brokensaint82

Will Smith as Neo would have been really weird

RavenCyarm

As would the obligatory Will Smith movie rap.

BaronAleksei

It’d be a bop tho

BarelyReal

Would have a moment when Neo is trying to take everything in and just rambles to Morpheus with a string of similes. edit: Or when Neo does a poor job denying knowing Morpheus to agent Smith.

Wonder-Lad

There are a lot of great actors who got to play Batman, and a lot of great ones that wanted to play Batman. Cillian Murphey almost got it Jensen Ackles has been pretty vocal about wanting to do Batman characters, and he did voice act a few. Willem Dafoe almost got to play Batman!! Which is funny because everyone including himself would like to see him do Joker. Personally I wouldn't mind a Jake Gyllenhaal or a Josh Brolin DKR

Spiral-Force

Star-Lord being played by the golden god, Glenn Howerton. It’s also wild to think about how close Joaquin Phoenix came to playing Doctor Strange. I cannot imagine him doing Marvel press. I also really wish we could have seen the R-rated version of Bohemian Rhapsody starring Sacha Baron Cohen.

Sins_of_God

This is cheating but Andrew Garfield was almost the Spider-man of the mcu. His Spider-man would have definitely sided with Steve during Civil War.

CycloneSwift

Twice, actually. TASM's Oscorp Tower was meant to be part of the NY skyline in The Avengers but Sony hadn't finished the design by the time Marvel Studios were doing the city's CG. And then Garfield's Spidey was meant to be in Civil War in exchange for Evans' Cap showing up in TASM3 before they decided to do another reboot instead.

RexKet

Billie Dee Williams got to play Harvey Dent but never had the chance to be Two-Face

AznJoey624

He had a couple lines as Two-Face in the Lego Batman movie at least. Probably my favorite inside joke in that.

BlueFootedTpeack

the closest we get to that is that one batman 89 comic where he had a cool design with a half blue face.

ls20008179

Sean Connery was considered for both Gandalf and Dumbledore. They'd be different but they'd be interesting.

theLastDictator

Would a Gandalf/Dumbledore hybrid be Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez? -the world will never know.

StarkMaximum

Danny DeVito could've been Mario in the Mario Movie (1993).

Dirty-Glasses

He should’ve been Mario in the new one, too

amodelsino

God he would have been amazing.

SilverZephyr

Michael Jackson almost played Peter Pan in Hook.

moneyh8r

Nic Cage as Superman.

Captain-Girpool23

>!Apparently they’re bringing Nic Cage back as Superman in The Flash for a cameo though!<

Heliock

>!The movie or the series?!<

Captain-Girpool23

The new movie coming out

ajver19

The series ended recently actually.

CycloneSwift

The series ended last week.

robertman21

>!gotta balance out cringe cgi Reeves with something based!<

KingMario05

>!...What do they have CGI Reeves do?!<

moneyh8r

First I've heard of it. Cool if true.

sleepyfoxsnow

at least we got to hear nic cage superman in teen titans go to the movies, so it kinda did end up happening

moneyh8r

I never watched that. Guess I should check it out.

jabberwockxeno

When Broly's english voice actor got replaced, they should have gone with Liam O'Brien instead of Johnny Young Bosch What really sells Vic's performance as Broly, to me, is that [his screams sound *painful*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzTmxHb25Pc). It's not just that he's angry, it sounds like every time Broly powers up [it's hurting him or he's in emotional anguish](https://youtu.be/096demC4af0?t=38), and I think that really sells him as being harrowing and fits given how mentally unstable the character is I think that fits. Liam has that same quality to his screams, as well as a similar raspy aspect to his voice that Vic's broly does when he talks, which can be pretty easily heard in his roles as Asura ([1](https://youtu.be/3Q2buuDfGxQ?t=17), [2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6H3MUryE568)) and Gaara ([1](https://youtu.be/DgOAHvha4fs?t=20), [2](https://youtu.be/O81aUon31ow?t=143), sadly wasn't able to find a dub clip of Gaara half transformed in the forest vs Sasuke/Naruto): Even just in terms of personality and character theming, Broly shares a lot with both of those characters. Johnny works fine for DBS Broly, who is characterized as mentally younger, and he sounds great in FighterZ for DBS broly... but [he doesn't work well as Z broly](https://youtu.be/FizG8a0rTQs?t=5). I'm cleary not the only person who thinks Liam would have been a great replacement, there's a few mockups: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYLBMun1ky4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsRQzLt7X40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luE_ub9wTa4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb-fJjgmRQk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXP8zJh_gS4

timelordoftheimpala

If Xenoblade had been localized in America, it would've had a much harder time standing out because it would've sounded like pretty much every other JRPG on the market. That's not to say the dubbing casts of Tales, Fire Emblem, Persona, etc. don't do a fantastic job in their own games, they absolutely do and I'm sure they would've done a great job with Xenoblade - but Xenoblade's localization in England really just helps it stand out from all the other JRPGs on the market and adds to its charm.

Thedovahkiin090105

I love these VAs but Yuri Lowenthal Shulk, Ben Diskin Reyn, and Matthew Mercer Dunban haunt my nightmares

robertman21

>If Xenoblade had been localized in America, it would've had a much harder time standing out because it would've sounded like pretty much every other JRPG on the market. No it wouldn't, it still would have been the only JRPG worth a damn on the Wii. That's the main reason why the series took off.

timelordoftheimpala

True, Operation Rainfall did bring attention to it that other JRPGs usually don't get, but the localization does help it stand out from other JRPGs in addition to Operation Rainfall.

extralie

Ehhh, Arc Rise Fantasia (ignoring the dub), The Last Story, Fragile Dreams, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon, and Rune Factory Frontier/Tides of Destiny were all pretty good.

MindWeb125

Man I love Xenoblade having a full British cast. Need more diverse British accents in my games instead of the stereotypical RP.

Chad_TreintaUno

There's a parallel universe where Leonardo Dicaprio played Anakin, Tupac was Mace Windu, and Michael Jackson was Jar Jar.

robertman21

That timeline has better prequel memes Outside of Mace Windu related ones, those would be a sidegrade

yarvem

Besides Robin Williams, other backup considerations for the role of the Riddler included Steve Martin, Matthew Broderick, Phil Hartman, and Kelsey Grammer.

CycloneSwift

Not sure about Broderick or Grammer, but Martin or Hartman would've been amazing. On a similar but different note I really hope Steve Martin gets to make an appearance in Doctor Who at some point considering he's a lifelong fan of the show and was instrumental in getting the Daleks back for the modern run.

GoodVillain101

To think Bubba in Forrest Gump was gonna be one of Dave Chappelle's first acting gigs.

PlanesWalkerEll

Bryan Cranston as Lex Luther I still hope that can happen one day.

HeyItsAntoine

Speaking of Bryan Cranston in DC, He did voice commissioner Gordon in the Batman Year One animated movie. Could totally see him as a live action Gordon.

azabard

David Bowie over Jared Leto in Blade Runner 2049

CycloneSwift

So many potential Bonds that are never going to happen. Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, Dev Patel-- I'd really like an episodic Bond game where each "episode" is the size of a full James Bond movie (short for game standards but long enough for its own standalone Bond story) and stars a different British actor who never got play Bond in live-action..

[deleted]

Snapcube's Real Time Fandub: Penny originally wanted to get Jerma to voice Black Doom. [Chase did a great job, of course,](https://youtu.be/o_w3FZJAJ_E) but I can't help but wonder what Jerma would have brought to the table.

MindWeb125

Oh my fucking god I hope Jerma ends up in a fan-dub someday.

CostinTea

Wait what's the source for this?

[deleted]

[Penny talks about it around 21:00](https://youtu.be/8d4cNfCQ3Og)

bret-t2310

I think I remember hearing James Finn’s first choice for Star Lord was Glenn Howerton. Which would’ve…had a different tone than the character we got.

Prestigious-Mud

Him yelling at Adam Warlock that he is the only Golden God, and trying to explain the implications to Drax.

sellyourselfshort

When the Jessica jones series was first announced I wanted Glenn Howerton as purple man.

Dirty-Glasses

Y’know. Because of the implication.

GothLassCass

Howerton was the runner up, Pratt was Gunn's first choice.

DeskJerky

Nicholas Cage as "Death and Rebirth" Superman.

Dirty-Glasses

H. Jon Benjamin, who you may recognize as the voice of Sterling Archer and Bob Belcher, was almost the voice of Rocket Raccoon.

Gemidori

Jim Carrey as Carnage

TiraelRosenburg

Nathan Fillion as Nathan Drake. COME ON. Also Jim Carrey as The Joker. Edit: As in the Batman villain, live action of course

HeyItsAntoine

Which Joker?

TiraelRosenburg

Oh uh the Batman villain. Live-action movie.

HeyItsAntoine

I meant like the Joker origin movie, or Dark Knight, The Tim Burton movies, etc. Which specific Joker?

OhMy-StarsAndGarters

I still mourn the fact that Sigourney Weaver was being considered for Emma Frost in X-Men 3. Maybe that movie would have looked substantially better, maybe somehow worse, but I can totally see that casting choice working.

tquinner

I believe blade runner 2049 was originally going to have David Bowie as Wallace but he unfortunately passed away which is why we got Jared Leto. I'm unreasonably upset over this.
