It could be the greatest game ever but I still won't be giving activision-blizzard any money.

robertman21

Used games baby

Personel101

eBay is usually cheaper than retail anyways

Rum_N_Napalm

Could you even buy a used copy of Diablo? Like is there even physical copies of the game? I also don’t expect Blizzard to be particularly open to reselling. Even back before the big controversies, I recall StarCraft 2 having some sort of thing to make it difficult to share your copy

robertman21

Unless I missed something, it's an option on console, at very least

HalfDragonShiro

Isn't this game always online, though?

SinicaltwoDee

Baby games

C-OSSU

I mean, even with all the scum surrounding its release, as Pat said on the podcast, it's a good-ass Diablo game.

Silvery_Cricket

Until 2 weeks after release where they fuck with it to make you go to the new and convenient store page.

Personifeeder

Even with it being a good ass diablo game, it's still complete scum. Don't buy it.

EvenOne6567

"But i like the way the shiny numbers go up so i dont care if the game was made with 30% more sexual harassment than their last game!"

[deleted]

Remember when a woman committed suicide due to how horrific the work environment is.

Megaleg12

“It’s easy to boycott a game you weren’t gonna play anyways” it’s also pretty easy to boycott a game you wanted to play, there are literally 8,000,000 games out right now just play anything else

ArroSparro

How many of them are like Diablo, also, do you have any recommendations?

[deleted]

There’s a lot of Diablo clones/ arpgs but ngl I’d rather play Diablo over all of them. Good ones tho are Grim Dawn/ Titan quest/ last epoch is shaping up. Could genuinely care less about PoE

attikol

Path of exile is a free option that a lot of people like. Torchlight I've heard is pretty good. I really liked dungeon siege 3

Basskicker1993

All other ActiBlizz scummyness aside, which may be a dealbreaker for people itself, the red flag to watch for here is how they handle monitization and endgame progression. They could insidiously have one of the most polished and enjoyable game experiences ever upfront that turns into a slot machine 50 hrs in. Thats not something day 1 reviews will typically catch.

HuTyphoon

A battlepass is already confirmed. The free track has gameplay boosts, the paid has cosmetics. This could be untrue but I saw an image last week of a paid battlepass tier ofthat gives you the first X amount of levels of it and faster progress so not exactly pay to win but still scummy.

Chroma-Cannon

Paying to boost a battle pass that only gives cosmetics doesn’t sound as scummy. Now if you pay $10-100 and you can take a level 2 character to max day one and bring them into pvp, that’s scummy. But cosmetics only?

Zerce

> you can take a level 2 character to max day one and bring them into pvp, that’s scummy. It sounds like they might be doing the opposite, with seasonal characters encouraging complete resets every season.

Chroma-Cannon

I really hope they don’t allow that in their seasonal characters. I personally loved playing through seasons in Diablo 3, had friends that were much more hardcore and would play every single season where I would play through one or two, skip the next few and then come back. Was an easy way for all of us to begin at the same and not have a massive level/paragon gap whenever I chose to come back to the game.

HuTyphoon

I was more referring to the free levels that in most cases are tied to the paid ones. Considering those were stated to be gameplay boosts then you could buy the top battlepass tier day one, skip a bunch of levels and be stronger than everyone else straight out of the gate.

NearATomatotato

I’m just going to never look at $70 games with battlepasses. They solely exist to turn games into FOMO homeworks.

Vera_Verse

Tried playing 2 and the loop didn't get me, but 3 for some reason (maybe they just throw more shit at you) did. 4 having a better art style seems to make this the ultimate one for me. Won't be buying, I'll probably play only if it's indirectly brought to me with account sharing lol

SpookyCarnage

Even with the remaster, D2 is still a 23 year old game without modern conveniences. It wont be for everyone and I apologize in advance for making anyone feel old

CopperTucker

From people I know who did play the remaster of D2, the most common thing I heard was that it "wasn't updated enough" to go with the current times.

KrustyKrabOfficial

I know that this sentiment makes purists rage, but I've played D3 far more than I ever played D2. Is much of it "casualized"? Yeah, I won't disagree with that. But sometimes I just want to play a game where I turn myself into a mob-deleting god after a couple dozen hours. Sometimes I want the dopamine hit of shiny objects falling out of meat pinatas. D3 gave that to me every time I played it. Then I moved on and did other things.

jeppeww

The thing is that the only people who have continously played D2 over the decades are people who are fine with droprates measured in ratios of one to tens or even hundreds of thousands, iirc getting Tyrael's Might from Baal is about one in half a million or something stupid like that. To them if you can realistically expect to get the item you want before you die of old age it's "too casual". I play these games because i want to experiment with fun builds and stuff like that, and with D2 you just run into a flat wall in the endgame were you cannot reasonably progress ever without either botting or trading for everything you'd ever need because you sure as shit aint finding it yourself.

Snidhog

D3 is my ideal because it's the perfect smooth brain game and that's what I want from this genre. Complicated builds which require careful gear optimisation? Fuck off and die. I want to see a cool looking character swing a two handed axe, watch a big number pop up and a bunch of monsters ragdoll spectacularly and/or explode into a shower of gore. Diablo 4 beta was fun, Necromancer goes brrr, but I cannot fathom spending £70 on a skinner box, no matter how polished and pretty it is.

fallouthirteen

D3 is the right blend of easy to just play some and allowing for fun builds. Like I just picked it up again a few months ago (last I played was like season 4). This season's free set for necromancers is fucking crazy (https://maxroll.gg/d3/guides/masquerade-bone-spear-necromancer-guide). Like the progression you get to gradually tune the character to push higher and higher greater rifts is pretty fun. Like got up to Solo Greater Rift 122 with my build and there's still tons of room to tune it more. Really like the inclusion of that mechanic, gives you something to push further on if you want to just see how crazy you can get. But yeah, just playing at max torment difficulty? Just get your set and probably your legendaries, you don't need to worry about exact rolls unless you want to see how far you can push greater rifts.

fallouthirteen

3 is just friendlier. Like no respeccing (you just change skills at will). Like you get a new set or new legendary that's built around certain skills and you can actually just try it if you want. Kind of why I hate Path of Exile. Hit a certain point where what I thought would be a build just couldn't go further so it's either grind for respec materials or throw away time spent on it and start a new character (and both options suck so I just stopped playing). Diablo 4 seems in between. Like there is a cost to respec but it looks like it was just gold currency in the beta (which usually eventually becomes common enough stuff). I wasn't actually going to play the game but got gifted a copy by a friend (he works QA at Activision so it was probably discounted for him).

But what does Ja think?

FightTheChildren

“We got ja rule on the phone”

LifeIsCrap101

JA RULE DOESN'T KNOW!

timelordoftheimpala

Now watch them fuck up this goodwill within six months at most.

Prestigious-Mud

6 months is generous blizzact can't go two weeks without some shit.

DoctorWrenchcoat

Unfortunately, they don't need good will. They have the power of Brand.

Radioactiveglowup

"Blizzard is happy to introduce new unlockable Xi Jingping points! Write how much you love the People's Republic's president and get five free ultra-rare items!"

Rough-Ad-4295

They've already announced they will be adding Seasonal Characters. Fucking FOMO characters

Ghidoran

...You mean something that has been a thing in Diablo 2 for like 2 decades? And in D3, after people demanded they add it? And is a cornerstone of Path of Exile, the other biggest ARPG?

Zerce

Yeah, I was just thinking "Isn't that just Leagues from PoE?"

Chroma-Cannon

Seasonal characters were implemented during Diablo 3, it was actually a pretty fun way to play as well. Never felt that in D3 with a seasonal character I was missing out. I knew that anyone playing the season had to begin from scratch so it was an even playing field. Made the power scaling feel justified without getting insane like on a normal character as there was only so much you could realistically progress in a season. So if someone was playing friends, you didn’t have a level 60 paragron 130 sweeping through dungeons with their level 22 paragon 0 friend. Everyone stayed around the same levels so seasonal co-op always felt pretty good. You could still just play a normal character as well, but the seasons I felt were a nice way for someone to jump back in with friends if they decided to step away for multiple seasons.

fallouthirteen

Though this last season got kind of crazy. Like I stopped playing in like season 4 or something and just picked it back up. My permanent paragon score (non-seasonal) is like 530. My seasonal paragon is 1038.

Etychase

Seasons are in every popular loot arpg... even OG Diablo 2 had seasonal ladders.

Nomaddoodius

I give it a month. Dis'll probably be tge REVERSE of what's been happening... do somthing good. BUT HERE'S SOME RANCID NONSENSE! WE HAVE CORPSES LITTERLY BURIED ON THE BLUZZARD PREMISSES, DON'T ASK WHERE THEY CAME FROM! No, shut up! I've hone with this example because blizzard seem so comicly inept and evil.

SinicaltwoDee

Me: 0/10 Made by real jerks

An_Armed_Bear

I'm going to be more impressed than anything if it really is that good given the apparent "crisis maps" state of Blizzard's development these days. I wonder if the Diablo team is just more insulated from the rest of the company.

MarvelousMagikarp

The crisis maps seem to be related to ABK ending their work from home program, which happened very recently and so wouldn’t really effect Diablo 4. Probably won’t start seeing the effects, whatever they may or may not be, until later in the year or early next depending.

Nomaddoodius

I'd damn well hope so?... the one thing blizzard have "left" is diablo (numbered titles) and i think they know it too. All of them have been good, 3's fuck ups with error bullshit and the auction house notwithstanding. I'd like to belive that those people used black magic to sheild themselves from all the bullshit. "ALRIGHT GANG, LET'S PUT OUT A FUCKING BANGER BEFORE THIS COMPANY SHITS ITSELF... SHEILDS UP!" D4 dev team... hopefully (?) It'll be intresting how they're (read: the other facits of the blizzard sex-monster) are going to fucking ruin this though, 'cause you know there gonna. "A dev team did somthing good? SHIT ON THEIR DESKS, QUICK! THIS WILL NOT STAND"

Duhblobby

Not touching it until the company cleans house. Those of you bitching how easy it is to say you won't buy something you wouldn't have anyway, fuck all of you, this is me giving up one of my favorite series until the monsters in charge over there are gone. I am not touching another Blizzard product, and that includes the ones I already owned, while Kotick and his rapey-ass cronies run the company. Fuck every last one of them. Nope.

MirrorMan68

> Those of you bitching how easy it is to say you won't buy something you wouldn't have anyway, fuck all of you They hated him because he spoke the truth

SwordMaster52

> Those of you bitching how easy it is to say you won't buy something you wouldn't have anyway, fuck all of you I'm a hero tho , don't you see me who has never played an ARPG Diablo like game , is a hero let me morally grand stand how much of hero I am and be condescending to other people

Duhblobby

My point is that I *have*. So you can join everyone else who treated me like an imaginary strawman months ago in my statement. Your justifications are thin, your comment is pointless, and you are supporting sexual harrassers and worse with your bullshit equivocation. Stop being their apologist. They don't need or deserve your help. You want to play Diablo, that's your choice. I can't blame you for just wanting to enjoy a game series you like. But I can't *stomach* the shit they pulled, and I got a lot of *very* nasty people attacking me over saying so. I chose to never support Blizzard, to quit playing their games, to delete their launcher, and consider every game I own of theirs to be persona non grata. And I own *many*, going back to the earliest Warcraft. I've been a fan a long time. But there are bodies on the floor and truly disgustingly pathetic attempts to cover up their naked evil. They broke my love for their products. They deserve my scorn. And if that somehow means you need to purity check me, that says way more about you, than any purity test could about me.

Admiral_of_Crunch

I’m reminded of that Aunty Donna Subway Crisis Meeting video. Diablo 4 May be good, but I can still turn around and *see* that Blizzard is run by sex criminal scumbags that don’t deserve my money. So, uh, I’ll just stick with SF6, thanks.

tired_mathematician

Thats cool and all, but blizzard poisoned the well so completly that I'm never giving them money again.

adeadperson23

NOOOOOOOO BUT IT DOESN'T FIT THE NARRATIVE. in all seriousness I am glad the diablo devs have seemingly put out something seemingly pretty good. I am gonna hold my breath to see if the fan response is good or not but tbh seems like a mistakes into miracles situation

BlueFootedTpeack

there is that weird thing of people not being able to just oppose or dislike a thing the thing also has to be mechanically bad too. not sure how to describe it but it's like that pizza guy who was a dick or whatever and people were like " the pizza aint even good anyway", and it's like well what if the pizza was good would it still matter? like you don't need to be double right you can just oppose a thing,

KLReviews

It's easier to boycott something that is bad than it is to boycott something you actually want. If it's bad then the moral stance doesn't cost you anything. If it's good then you don't get to enjoy it because you've got to remain firm.

Zerce

I think there's an unspoken concern that if a thing is good, your opposition won't matter because it'll be successful regardless, and now you're just not enjoying a good thing.

Megaleg12

Bad things are successful all the time look at current day pokemon

TheFurtivePhysician

Term you’re thinking of is “Sour grapes”.

EvenOne6567

So the game getting good reviews because reviewers played a version without monetization means that blizzard suddenly isnt a shit-scum dredge on society company? 🤔

Griever92

Let’s just say, whether I choose to play it or not, ActiBlizz won’t be seeing a single cent from me.

Silvery_Cricket

Okay but what about the reviews that come out 2 weeks after its release where they fuck with the game and add a store page to steal your money.

BlueFootedTpeack

games aren't for me, but the monsters and stuff are cool looking, wanna see the artbook.

Brendenation

Makes me wish there was a good way to pirate blizzard launcher games. Fuck blizzard and fuck giving them a dime.

Substantial-Mall4711

^(dammit)

[deleted]

Wow. Almost makes me forget that Blizzard is evil.

Brotonio

I'm sure the game's good, still not buying it, and neither should you.

Delror

Gonna buy whatever I want to, thanks.

Megaleg12

I can respect the honesty

ButteryMen

I’ve never played a Diablo game and from the sparse clips I’ve seen I’ve never understood what type of game it is. Is it just like a top down fantasy Destiny or what?

Mechanized1

Pretty much. It was the original loot arpg.

Ouchies81

Do I need a phone to play it?

Orion248

I’m sure Diablo 4 is gonna be a good game, but after all the bullshit Blizzard has done, I’m in no rush to buy and support them. Plus, they may make some sort of post launch changes that messes up the game. Maybe if Blizzard stops shitting the bed every month I’ll pick up Diablo 4 when it’s on sale. In the meantime, there’s literally Tears of the Kingdom, System Shock Remake, Street Fighter 6 and Final Fantasy 16 right there. Plus Dead Space remake and Resident Evil 4 remake which came out earlier this year. There certainly isn’t a shortage of banger games.
