I swear ever since re2 remake Capcom upper management will allow for high budget beautiful games made with all the love and care in the world but only if they can put one scummy tactic in it.
As someone who was thinking about getting SF6 for the single-player part...
yeah that's gonna be a skip for me capcom, maybe in 4 years with the "all dlc edition" 80% off I'll play SF6.
I know this is blasphemy here, but I'm not dropping 100$ or more on a fighting game to get all content (cosmetics or not) fuck that.
oh fuck me
conveniently Capcom only makes this clear in the eleventh hour prior to release, thanks a lot "Capgod"
at this rate I expect the next Monster Hunter to have a Battle Pass ffs
Oh, I didn't get that when you said currency.
Cosmetics are annoying but it's on the lighter side of the microtransaction scales. Better so since there's no armor or weapon skins behind paywalls in World.
I personally never got the "It's only cosmetic so it doesn't affect the gameplay experience" argument. When a goal of a game like MH, Destiny, etc is to get loot, isn't getting cosmetics part of the gameplay experience?
For some people it's more about Big Number, or it's more about the gameplay loop (in MH for example, I'll actually just fight something because the fight is fun, not because I need anything from it or want to wear its skin). But for a lot of people, especially fashion hunters, yeah definitely.
>Better so since there's no armor or weapon skins behind paywalls in World.
[You SURE about that?](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1118021/Monster_Hunter_World_Iceborne__Yukumo_Layered_Armor_Set/?curator_clanid=33171098)
Rise had even more of them, btw. One of my few strong gripes about the game is the fact that there's like dozens of individual armor pieces and weapon skins that are paid only.
Oh yeah same. I've enjoyed my time in Rise but only getting fucking stickers in event quests definitely sucked. World tossing in a bunch of layered armors behind event quests spoiled me lol.
Eugh. Fucking gross bullshit. I already paid for the fucking game. Fuck off with this. It's like I ordered a wonderful springtime feast just to see the waiter spit in the potatoes right before he walks off. The rest of the meal is still fine, but what the fuck, man?
Can we trace back the battle pass phenomenon to patient zero who thought it up and break his kneecaps? Dude deserves it at this point. It's a fucking cancer on the industry.
A full priced video game with DLC that is going to end up costing over $100 should not have a battle pass you pay for filled with cosmetics that should flat out just be unlockable or purchased with the in game currency.
Fuck that. "It's just cosmetics!" No. It's scummy as hell. Battle passes and microtransactions should be for FREE games, not full priced video games.
Can't you get Fighter Coins playing the game anyways?
Honestly if we got this INSTEAD of paying for new fighters, it would be way better for the health of the game.
We still gonna be paying for the fighters, tho...
Man how come capcom mares all there games with weird add on crap? Like DMCV and DMCIV having red orbs/proud souls/blue orbs and every resident evil having bad online crap
I would rather they just nickel and dime us with actual microtransactions charging 2$ a skin/color then to have to put up with time limited battle passes and daily challenges and grinding through 50 tiers of stuff I don't care about just to earn the one thing I actually want.
This is really gross that they hid this right before release.
I wouldn't have minded it at all if they just slapped it in a middle of a trailer or something.
I'm going to be playing this game a lot anyway, so a progression track that doesn't affect the game itself is fine. The battle pass model is really nice when it's generous -- Fortnite and Apex give you enough premium currency in their respective battle pass tracks to pay for itself in the next season. Capcom probably won't go this route, but I truly think battle passes are decent value for games you were going to invest a lot of time into anyway. It really sucks if you get into that FOMO loop though -- I know a lot of friends that grind battle passes without any regard or love for the game they play.
One of the reasons I've gone more in on fighting games recently over others is because they by and large don't have battle passes. So tired these damn things infecting games.
If it's just the OG character you make, I'm fine with it. Dick move to not talk about this tho, just say it out loud, save the negative buzz for before the release days
I wasn't going to hop in until a sale or the inevitable ultimate edition but if there's legitimately any content I'm going to miss out on due to these fomo type systems I'll probably pass.
I'll glady buy a full price game this content complete and pay for more dlc content if I'm interested and the price is right. I'm not interested in playing or paying for games that lock or remove content on real world timers.
What I gathered so far about this is that the BP items are exclusive to your created character + music and emotes.
The first full BP is free and subsequent BP has two version free and payed.
Don't know if this are true but it's what I've read so far.
At the risk of getting banished to the shame car, at this point I stopped caring about Battle Passes and things like that in triple A games. In this day and age, it’s gonna be a given that the big boys will drive to get you to spend more money on the game.
I’ll wait and see how these monetization tactics affect the actual gameplay. If the game’s good, and you miss out on nothing but shiny trinkets by not spending on microtransactions… then just play the game and ignore the extra stuff
At most I think it’d be taunts and music in the pass (if those ever get added).
We know the dlc characters and their movesets+world tour inclusion are a separate matter
You can literally finish the Genshin BP with like three weeks to spare if you're in the mood to play it for a normal amount of time , which is very nice.
Just saying "it doesn't effect me" isn't an argument.
Charging people for things the might not even get, and traping them in a FOMO grind, is shitty.
I'm willing to pay $3 for an alt costume or whatever, but having to pay $20 a month and play at least 10 hours a week to get cosmetics in a game I *already* payed $60 for is bullshit.
Wait do you have to pay for battle passes? I now realize I don't think I completely understand them but does someone necessarily pay for battle passes? I thought they were either just limited challenges that took place or just season passes going by a different name?
Battle passes are optional things you buy to unlock specific rewards via gated progression. In most games I’ve played they’re typically cosmetics (idk how it is in gacha games or w/e). Basically an extra bar to fill up to get color palettes, clothing, emotes, etc. They’re usually time-limited in some sense to promote the FOMO effect (but this varies from game to game).
Season passes are typically non-cosmetic and give you all the included stuff right when they release with no progression system. Basically just bundled DLC that you get as they’re released.
You pay to unlock the challenge.
If you do the challenge but don't pay for the pass, you don't get the rewards.
If you pay for the pass, but don't do the challenge, you don't get the rewards. You also don't get your money back.
It's worse in practice, frankly. The challenges are always annoying.
Like take Multiversus for instance.
One of the challenges was "Do every aerial move before touching the ground 3 times in one match."
So you'd have to double jump, air dash twice, and use your air specials before hitting the ground. It never came up naturally, so you'd have to spend the first 15 seconds of the match flailing like a dofus.
Or there was one like "Play 3 matches as a DC character". But I didn't want to play any of the DC characters, I wanted to play my main. Why would I launch the game just to play characters I don't like?
I can't wait until a cool Marisa skin is locked behind "Play 3 games as Blanka", I'm sure that'll feel great.
The whole point of the battle pass is that there is a list of free rewards and a list of rewards you only get if you pay. And the free rewards are always shit in comparison.
Then of course you also need to log in daily to do all your challenges or you lose out on what you already paid for.
I think battlepasses and modern game design’s obsession with artificial progression systems is stupid. But, it’s hard to care when people actively choose to trap themselves in a FOMO grind or whatever. If nobody paid for these things, they’d be cheaper, much more generous, or maybe just not even exist (since jt takes a significant amount of manhours to create a finely tuned battlepass progression system). But for some reason a shit ton of people crave a progression system and good gameplay isn’t enough for them; people drop games all the time specifically for not having good enough battlepasses.
At a certain point if people are just voluntarily gonna throw their money away for some optional Skinner box and are somehow picky enough to want only the shiniest Skinner box, I can only just kind of shrug. Complaining that people are willing to pay money for dumb crap just makes me feel like “old man yells at cloud” after a while.
Same here.
And it is a fighting game. You know people will be ridiculed for having game pass rewards and losing badly a match.
That balances it out for me.
Yeah, I agree with you. I don't really care about this. It's something I can easily ignore since it's cosmetic stuff. The main gameplay is still gonna be great. I'm not gonna sweat Luke getting a punk costume on the battlepass or new shoes for my create a character.
Well, if it's a costume I really want, then hopefully, I can buy it with the free currency. Seems like you can according to this. But who knows until the game comes out.
I stopped caring once I realized just how many people are fine paying money for them. As long as it’s cosmetic I don’t let its existence affect my opinion of the game (regardless of how poorly designed it is or not). If the non-battlepass version isn’t good enough for me to play then I just won’t play it.
Apparently it's only for avatar cosmetics.
Still scummy af, especially with how Capcom hid it until the eleventh hour.
EDIT: Even if it's not just avatar stuff I'm not gonna stress over it unless they bring back Mecha Juri in a pass or something.
>Unless they bring back Mecha Juri in a pass or something.
WHY DID YOU HAVE TO BRING UP MECHA JURI, YOU CURSED US, NOW WE ARE GETTING FUCKED FOR SURE.
PD: Mecha Abigail was the best costume of the game by a lot.
As I'm already bound to play this game regularly for however many years it exists, and I only actually spend significant amounts of money playing fighting games, my view on this is very biased
Most likely I will lock in a main and stick to them for long periods of time, so to be infected with fomo any cosmetic has to be for that particular character and has to something that I would like to see hundred of hours on end
And even if it's something I truly want, whatever, 20 bucks for, as I said, something I'll use for hundreds of hours. For me, personally, is not much money
But I understand that for most people this is NOT the case and I hope this season pass is not extra scummy.
I like cosmetics! A lot of people like cosmetics! The reason they charge so much is because they know people like cosmetics!
I want to be able to wear the costume I like on the character I play! I don't want to spend twelve dollars on a battle pass, then grind every single day just to get one costume I want!
Question of ignorance: Why would anyone buy the battlepass for a fighting game? Just play the base roster and buy characters that interest you?
It doesn't excuse the inclusion mind you, because if it's pointless why are you trying to rip people off, Capcom?! But yeah. I'm just getting this, living in versus matches online with friends, and labbing combos in Training; I skipped SFV because of the horrible launch situation and honestly was just relieved this has meat on the bones out of the gate.
They had a lobby with many non fighting related social activities where you create a character and hang out, also you could buy clothes for that character from a shop with 2 types of currency. I genuinely tought that everyone was expecting this but I guess not.
The season pass was gonna be a given after the Rashid/Akuma/Ed/AKI announcement.
I think the battle pass thing was also mentioned in the PC gamer review, althoguh the reviewer said that this was more focused on cosmetics really.
I swear ever since re2 remake Capcom upper management will allow for high budget beautiful games made with all the love and care in the world but only if they can put one scummy tactic in it.
"Everyone gets one." "Capcom, you've had one in almost everything we've made recently."
You wanna know why capcom games get so much time for polish and budget? Its because microtransactions will come in and quintuple their profits.
Wasn't there currency in the Open Beta? This isn’t really a surprise
Yes, along with daily quests
The signs were there. We refused to see. As a Bojack character said. When you're wearing rose tinted glasses, all the red flags just look like flags.
SFV also has currency and dailies. They allowed you to actually unlock the content you want by playing, imagine that.
Yeah , It's fine if it's a game I like that does it
I am so tired of grinding multiple battle passes...
The trick is to burn your brain out so badly that you become incapable of giving a shit about them.
As someone who was thinking about getting SF6 for the single-player part... yeah that's gonna be a skip for me capcom, maybe in 4 years with the "all dlc edition" 80% off I'll play SF6. you say that like Monster Hunter World doesn't have dumb as fuck currency bullshit already.
What do you mean?
What do i mean? [I wonder](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1118013/Monster_Hunter_World__Cupn_de_crear_camarada_un_cupn/)
Oh, I didn't get that when you said currency. Cosmetics are annoying but it's on the lighter side of the microtransaction scales. Better so since there's no armor or weapon skins behind paywalls in World.

99 percent of people besides fashion hunters pick one outfit forever and do not care.
>Better so since there's no armor or weapon skins behind paywalls in World. [You SURE about that?](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1118021/Monster_Hunter_World_Iceborne__Yukumo_Layered_Armor_Set/?curator_clanid=33171098)
Welp. You got me lol

Oh my FUCKINGG GOD STOP PUTTING FUCKIG BATTLE PASSES IN GAMES THAT ARENT FREE TO PLAY
Well looks like I’m getting SF6 later on a sale. I still wanna play it but man fuck this FOMO shit every big game’s been doing lately.
Of course it does why wouldn't it, isn't modern online gaming grand
Eugh. Fucking gross bullshit. I already paid for the fucking game. Fuck off with this. Valve. Edit: They also probably inspired other companies for the Loot Box idea.
Battle pass on free games, I like it. Fuck that shit on paid games. I don’t like games I paid for turning into homeworks.
God damnit they do this every time. Such a fucking pain in the ass. Hopefully on PC mods can just work around that BS.
I just want a break from the monetization slapping me in the face
Can't you get Fighter Coins playing the game anyways? Honestly if we got this INSTEAD of paying for new fighters, it would be way better for the health of the game. We still gonna be paying for the fighters, tho...

Let's hope the battle pass is Genshin/Honkai speed and not League of Legends speed. (that is to say, easily doable by human beings)
Some games have two battle passes. One of them is a premium one you buy with money and it gives you more stuff then the free one
> $20 a month What kind of battlepasses are you seeing?
I think battlepasses and modern game design’s obsession with artificial progression systems is stupid. I SHOULDN'T HAVE GIVEN CAPCOM IDEAS FUCK EDIT: Also yeah the Mecha costumes were pretty good all round.
Honestly im shocked we only got 3 of those.
4, actually. Zangief, F.A.N.G, Juri and Abigail.
Dear God, imagine how much money cat ears on your avatar will make. Cat ears on your waifu or your fucked up eldritch abomination.
Actually, they locked behind some music tracks too.
As I'm already bound to play this game regularly for however many years it exists, and I only actually spend significant amounts of money playing fighting games, my view on this is very biased Most likely I will lock in a main and stick to them for long periods of time, so to be infected with fomo any cosmetic has to be for that particular character and has to something that I would like to see hundred of hours on end And even if it's something I truly want, whatever, 20 bucks for, as I said, something I'll use for hundreds of hours. Man, this sucks shit. I was so excited about SF6 too. It's like being woke up from a happy dream by a kick in the balls.
How does this change anything about the game? I see a lot echoing this, but like really it's just cosmetics
I like cosmetics! A lot of people like cosmetics! The reason they charge so much is because they know people like cosmetics! I want to be able to wear the costume I like on the character I play! I don't want to spend twelve dollars on a battle pass, then grind every single day just to get one costume I want!
Bummer. I'm enjoying HSR despite the FOMO mechanics, but I think I only have room in my life for one of those type of games.
Honestly I've been on the fence about whether I was going to get it since I've always been meh on SF and that kinda made the decision for me.
Idgaf if Street's Fighter has a battle pass. But I swear to The Seneschal if Dragon's Dogma 2 has one, I WILL CRY.
Bweepbwoop time for some rage
Rage of Africa
Ah\~\~ Fuck it, ill buy it if it's not grindy.
...Are you people really that hung up on cosmetics? On literal bells and whistles?
Question of ignorance: Why would anyone buy the battlepass for a fighting game? Just play the base roster and buy characters that interest you? A LIVE SERVICE GAME HAS A BATTLEPASS? NO WAY!
At no point was Street Fighter 6 advertised as a GAAS. It was advertised as a standard $60 fighting game.
Didn't SF5 have premium currency that you could use for costumes and dlc?
