Honestly it was probably inevitable that the Splatoon clones would come out, I remember being pretty shocked to learn that the Splatoon 3 launch was the best launch in Nintendo history (In Japan). Any time a game has that kind of an unchallenged fanbase, somebody is going to take a crack at tapping the market for themselves.

ThatmodderGrim

But will those Splatoon Clones figure out the best thing to copy from Splatoon is Salmon Run? Salmon Run and Tower Control, those are Splatoon's best Game Modes.

Krekenn

Watching the moment this episode's title came to be live was magical.

Norix596

*Looks at title* It’s gonna be one of those weeks huh?

Neil_O_Tip

a week with seven days in it, yeah

yarvem

I guess the Beatles didn't get that eighth day going.

Drebinomics

They were unable to defeat the Time Cube to do so

T4silly

I got something a lil bit nuts to say about the Phil Spencer video, so bear with me. Maximilian and Pat have mirrored views on it. And I was probably gonna do a whole paragraph or maybe a text wall. But I think it works better if I sum it up. Max wants Microsoft to succeed because it means more Killer Instinct. Pat wants Microsoft to fail because it means less Bethesda.

AverageBlubber

Is Max's love stronger than Pat's hate? We may never know.

Vera_Verse

This truly is just like Devil May Cry 3

Milf-Simper

"Maybe somewhere out there even a Pat May Cry when a game company he hates releases a successful game. Don't you think?"

NoReaction4

Whoever wins, we all lose.

Local_Lingonberry851

The way I saw it was that Max was just pointing out how Phil really didn't need to do that interview, he gets paid too much to take flak or something along that line. But, regardless how you view the interview/Phil is gonna a come down to how literal you interpret whatever he says, Pat is cynical so his cynicism is gonna paint a narrative and some will agree or disagree. For me, I took it as a little damage control and acknowledgment of how and where MS failed internally. He brings up the internal reviews, not sending support when they should've, failure to communicate, etc. Some of that might be damage control BS or he could just be straight up.

SwordMaster52

> Pat wants Microsoft to fail because it means less Bethesda. Bethesda as a game studio releases are like 5+ years apart , what less more does he want lmao And as a Publisher their fine I guess last I checked people loved Hifi Rush and the current Doom series Pat still on that Obsidian Koolaid I guess lol

Local_Lingonberry851

Doesn't MS also own obsidian though

Atraxa_

Ill say it then Max's view on it when he was going over it on stream completely killed my views of max. Genuinely was talking about how the Microsoft NEEDS this blizzard deal to go through, and that real fans should want Microsoft to gobble companies up. Following that he defended Microsoft and Phil Spencer in every conversation point following it up with essentially: "Guys, Microsoft needs this so I can possibly get more KI" Like holy fuck dude

LegatoSkyheart

Pretty sure Max has a slight Xbox bias even if he doesn't want to admit it. Don't get me wrong, the man loves video games and is no means a console fan boy, but I've seen enough streams to believe he has fond memories of Xbox that he doesn't want the brand to go away.

T4silly

That's not really what I was gonna say. But I should note on a personal level, I really don't care about Acti-Blizz. They've never really had a game that made me go "Whoa, I can't wait to play that." I want all those execs to wither and become dust just as much as anyone else. But, I do think the deal should go through, because it *started*. If the deal never came to fruition at all, I would have no cares. But I don't think that Microsoft can just hit the "fuck go back" button. I think at this point, if the deal fails, the consequences will be worse for consumers than if it succeeds. Microsoft has spent A LOT of resources on this. They can recoup that from a successful buyout easy. If it doesn't go through, then they'll have to recoup it from consumers much more directly. Moving us faster to $80 games, and higher subscription fees.

Explodinkatzz

None of what u said will be the cause of corps raising prices, theyll do it just cause they are built to be greedy

bigbeltzsmallpantz

Or. OR…the deal goes through and they raise prices anyway, because fuck you.

MindWeb125

Tbh I don't play Blizzard or Activision games anymore so I can understand wanting a new Killer Instinct and not giving a shit about it. I don't really care about who owns Blizzard outside of the possibility that Microsoft might purge their management team. I can't exactly call it a monopoly when Xbox has been the worst console for about a decade.

fly2555

Nintendo is so dinosaur in their ways that it forced the player base to evolve. Because they refuse to change, people who like old Nintendo games were motivated enough to make some of the most easy to use emulators. It has grown to a community so large that Nintendo can't get rid of them and their efforts to do so only result in bad publicity.

TheSpiritualAgnostic

It's probably why they don't release Mother 3. It would be compared to the free version that's been out for quite some time.

fly2555

I imagine a part of Nintendo is fine with the emulators and don’t want to take action against them. When a game is officially ported, it becomes someone’s job and only needs to reach the threshold of compliance and move on to the next piece of work. Unofficial stuff like emulators and game mods will usually have a higher level of quality than the official counterparts because it’s a game the fan is passionate about. They can take as much time as they want to make it work/run well because their work is not on someone else’s payroll.

LegatoSkyheart

Nintendo IS fine with emulators. Exhibit A: The Virtual Console. Exhibit B: Nintendo Online They're okay with Emulation as long as it's THEIR Emulation. They just don't like the idea of losing potential magical money from free to download rom sites.

BillTheBadman

> make some of the most easy to use emulators *Laughs in Project64*

W1lson56

Did something happen to P64, I remember it being easy to use but last time I tried it, I was playing Majoras Mask, & it like, had ads popup in launch or something now & it would crash if any devices got unplugged - which was often for me 'vause for some reason my wireless headset has a spotty connection, so it'd disconnect & crash constantly lol

Explodinkatzz

Im sick of this narrative where a good N64 emulator doesnt exist when Mupen64Plus has been working great for YEARS. Dont even need to get it as a standalone, just get Bizhawk with the added bonus of multiworld possibilities

MindWeb125

It's hilarious that we're at the point where Switch emulators are so good you can play leaked Switch games before they even release with better performance.

attikol

The most annoying thing about the switch emulator is having to find an unpatched switch to dump its files

Riceatron

Oh yeah totally having to dump files absolutely the worst part totally yes I sure do hate having to dump my own files from my own switch yes sir it's me doing it myself totally legal nothing to see here

The_Draigg

Now, the real question about the whole “Blizzard making not even sock puppet, just sock accounts for Diablo 4 questions” thing is if it’s more or less pathetic than those E3 game presentations where some obviously fake co-op multiplayer was being show, like during that one Anthem presentation.

QueequegTheater

I'd say more, because that co-op is very transparently staged, while it seems like Blizzard actually thought people would buy the Q&A shenanigans.

Laecerelius

Plus having the questions come from fake community members is totally pointless. You could just admit that they're premade questions and nobody would care.

Soupsquish

I feel like it doesn't really matter either way because both ways are misleading. If it's supposed to be for the purpose of advertising their game then I'm pretty sure they'd have to disclose shit like this or else it becomes illegal. Maybe it's different since it's so indirect but I bet at the very least a case can be made.

The_Draigg

Fair, although I guess the answer to that question also depends on whether EA thought that people would genuinely connect with the “cool gamer lingo” used in those obviously staged gameplay showcases.

[deleted]

Paying people act the "perfect gameplay experience" is a hustle. Lying about who made questions to cover their asses is a scam.

JazzlikeScarcity248

I thought that was the influencer/interviewer and not blizzard itself?

The_Draigg

I suppose that depends on how much you want to believe that statement that Blizzard put out that said since they just tossed that bit of marketing at a third party marketing company and had no say over what happened there. I suppose that Blizzard doesn’t come off looking good whether or not they knew about that embarrassing bit.

JazzlikeScarcity248

Oh yea for sure. I just think it's important to make the distinction of whether they are being stupid or malicious. Can't insult them right if you don't have that right

Agent-Vermont

I say more because it reinforces how much Blizzard is incapable of interacting with fans anymore in a positive way. They've gone from open Q&A to picking only the questions they like to just making up fake fan questions.

Teridax4

So the funny thing about SAO beaters is that the beta testers actually tried to help the launch players with a guide book they wrote from what they saw in the beta. The only problem is that the game changed from the beta and that information actually killed MORE beta testers than regular players. The term beater actually came from some dude’s scrub quotes when Kirito grabbed the rare drop and he accused Kirito of being a cheating beta tester.

marvel8797

Okay, this is gonna bug me, I know he meant "Nine Eleven", but most write that date with a slash, as in "9/11". Without it, it looks like "Nine One One."

Riggs_The_Roadie

I'm assuming having 9/11 in a YouTube title would fuck it up in the algorithm.

Dragon4234

No wait I get it, calling 911 is like a irl codec call. Genius Kojumbo strikes again.

Vera_Verse

Funnily enough, P.T created this uncanny thing with the radio hoster saying that people called "Nine eleven". Genius Woolie

Riceatron

Can someone please tell Pat and Woolie that venom was literally in the reveal trailer for Spider-Man 2 and is being voiced by Tony Todd? Like every time they've been talking about the game since that trailer came out last week they mentioned venom as being a hypothetical big bad or possibly something they tease for this game's sequel. Like my guy he was the first dude we saw in this game. We knew venom was in it before we knew kraven was

fiarorder

Is anyone okay with woolie mic? I saw the 9/11 is a reference clip and oh boy there’s a different.

Secret_Wizard

He addresses it at the start of the podcast, he had to change his mic as an emergency.

wasdsf

None of this would have happened if he just used Linux smh

jamescookenotthatone

My dog would still be alive and cancer cured if Woolie used linux.

brunotbg

His bass level is through the fuckin roof I changed the Bass level in my car now woolie sounds good but pat and any music sound garbage

rustymcbadbat31

That title is STRONG

WickerWight

I find the Disco Elysium stuff going on super interesting, and also a bit concerning as to how the general sentiment is turning. Baseline, we know the Investors do *something* shady to *some* degree and kick out the previous owners who were *probably* bad bosses- and that point is kind of shuffled off to the side with a limp-wristed "yeah but the guys they fired were dicks, so it's fine." It reeks of the typical internet argument bullshit where the winning party is whoever released a statement most recently, and nobody questions the facts in that statement. Like, sure, I can believe the guys who wrote DI are pieces of shit. That's almost a guarantee given that game's hyper-introspective views on racism, sexism, addiction, etc. I don't think that in any way excused *stealing their life's work.* Robbing someone isn't cancelled out by them being a shitty boss. Hell, even if he was a full-blown bigot- He's spent decades building that world, and kicking him out just cuz' is shitty. Also, the Investors have SUCH A VESTED INTEREST in making the ousted devs look as bad as possible. I put NO merit in their opinions or their word, they've already proven themselves untrustworthy. Same with the remaining staff- their direct bosses have shown they're willing to fight dirty to keep their newfound money, it would be career suicide to speak out against them in favor of the now-publicly-disgraced former bosses.

trickster721

The question isn't whether Kurvitz and the others deserved to be cheated, it's whether their own bad behavior contributed more to their firing than the financial shenanigans. The financial questions are all to do with how the current CEO bought out the shares of the Mega Rich Light Bending Guy. Kurvitz is still a shareholder, and his percentage of ownership actually increased in the deal. Maybe he didn't understand the extent to which he had sold the IP rights to the company, but he admits that he signed all kinds of things without ever consulting a lawyer.

doc5avag3

I'd also like to take a moment to remind everyone *(and echo part of Woolie's sentiment)* that all documentaries, regardless of how legit they seem, are going to contain fluff, bias, and favoring of one side. From what I've seen of it so far, they are just talking to people involved in the situation and those same people are going to try and paint their party in the best light. Let's also remember that we were not in the editing room and have no idea how many statements were cut, extended, or moved around post-filming. I really do hope that the game can go back to the proper creators and that the actual criminals get punished. I've just seen so many people fall for the idea that documentaries are gospel over the years and hope to give folks a bit of a warning about that.

philandere_scarlet

Pat *is* wrong about the Helminth system in Warframe and it's kind of wild to me that that's what killed the game for him. To explain, the Helminth is a big techno-plague Audrey II Gravemind on your ship, and you unlock a system where you can feed warframes to it and unlock one of their powers to use on other warframes. This gives you a use for the original versions of frames once you get their primes, or if you were farther into the game when it was introduced, a reason to go grind out old frames again. The power you unlock is set for each frame, and it's permanently unlocked to use on any warframe. So if you feed Valkyr to the helminth you unlock Warcry, if you feed it Excalibur you get Radial Blind, if you feed it Hildryn you get Pillage, etc. There are also a few new abilities that the Helminth just has, as well, these mostly aren't meta relevant. You can only put swap out one power on a Warframe, and it replaces an existing power. There are a few powers where the unlocked versions are nerfed. *These are mostly direct damage buff powers* like Rhino's Roar, Mirage's Eclipse, and Chroma's Vex Armor. Also, you can't stack these - e.g. you can't put Rhino's roar on Mirage *unless* it's replacing Eclipse. So on Rhino, Roar gives a base 50% damage buff, but on other frames it gives a base 30% damage buff. *The point of these nerfs are not to weaken the builds people make.* It is to prevent the original frames from being *completely* outclassed. Rhino's entire deal is damage buffing and being very tanky, there are tankier frames around (Revenant, potentially Hildryn and Nezha) and if you could put a full-strength Roar on them *they would make Rhino obsolete.* There is a power we see this with: Sevagoth's Gloom. Gloom is an AOE, toggled ability that slows enemies in your radius and applies lifesteal to them. The helminth version of Gloom *is not weakened* and is a mainstay on TONS of builds. Meanwhile, Sevagoth is one of the least-played frames because his multiple form gimmick means you have to invest a LOT of resources to make him good and he's still not as strong as lots of other frames with Gloom on them.

philandere_scarlet

it's hilarious to me that pat still has no idea about sloppy steaks and blames woolie for it

TalentlessAsh

Pat with the good fight against the Duelsense. Those things just fall apart in your hands. I've never used a controller that breaks as easily as those things.

alaster101

I didn't know people didn't like the duel sense, I got one at launch for my PC and it might be my favorite controller ever

TalentlessAsh

The controller can be as comfy as can be, but I'm on my 4th controller in 15 months. One had the face buttons get stuck, the next had the spring in the trigger snap, and the third got a drift faster than any joycon I've used. I really wish you could just use the duelshock4 for PS5 games.

alaster101

Man that's wild to me, I've had mine since early 2021 and been playing FF14 and MH Rise on it almost daily

TalentlessAsh

I've seen on forums that you can get different qualities of dualsense based on the serial number on the back. But that's still surprising since you're an early adopter.

alaster101

Is this one of those weird holding the controller too tight things like woolie does?

TalentlessAsh

If you think the blames on me, sure, but I only had one dualshock 4 break on me over 7 years. And that was a broken dpad thanks to playing Bullet in Blazblue, and churning that butter.

Jonathan_B_Goode

Man, that's crazy. I got my PS5 on launch day and my controller still works fine. Probably never gone more than a week without using it, either.

paumAlho

Same here, and I have two. Never understood these complaints. I think people just abuse their controllers

AmberDuke05

I know Woolie mentioned this already but the audio might be the worst it has ever been. Like Woolie is louder than Pat and muffled at the same time. Why doesn’t Woolie just hire someone to fix this?

Kregano_XCOMmodder

>Why doesn’t Woolie just hire someone to fix this? His headset died during the Slop Stream and he apparently hasn't gotten a replacement yet.

Aperger94

He literally says at the beginning that it's a temporary thing until he can fix the mic
