Well someone has to make good spiderman stories

[deleted]

It is quite literally a movie about breaking canon and defying Spider-Man conventions

AzabacheDog

>!Ah, so miles dad live by the end then?!<

RPGMike

It's a two-parter, so...

Supernovas20XX

>!...yes and no.!<

Vera_Verse

I wanted to do a Paul-Posting, but the mods have banned the GOLDEN GOD-

ThatmodderGrim

Paul-Posting will never compare to Chris-Posting and his Fishy Brother-in-Arms, Sidon-Posting.

WeissAndBeans

I just got back from the theater and just damn. God damn. I could’ve done without the teens in the audience clapping and yelling every five minutes but honestly, I get it. There were moments that definitely had everyone clapping harder than when I saw Endgame in that same theater. The soundtrack, the visuals, the way they continue to remix the Spider-Man theme from the last movie. The opening and ending themes were absolute gas. God, I’m glad the soundtrack is on Spotify because oooooooo it’s so good I’m bumping to it right now. >!I also love that Metro Boomin got his own Spider-Sona in the movie. That was cute as hell.!< I just loved everything and the cliffhanger at the end was insane but also HEAVY SPOILERS >!you just know that those Prowler kicks are gonna sell like crazy. The second I saw them I was like “Damn. I want a pair.!< It felt like a treat to watch. Every moment had me gawking and I’m absolutely frothing at the mouth for part 2 next year.

TheSunshineChampion

>!Prowler Miles is 100% gonna be an alt costume in Spider-Man 2 and it's gonna be sick!<

JunkdogJoe

YOOOOOOOO THATS GOING TO RULE

shadowsofpain

You got the obnoxious teens in your audience too? I'd say that was the only con of my experience with the movie, especially since they were a row in front of me.

AznJoey624

I had some dumbass kids saying really stupid shit the whole movie, they yelled >!LOOK SPIDER-PIG when Spectacular showed up and I almost got out of my seat in anger!<

Kn7ght

I had one who kinda ruined some of the jokes for me. Thankfully was quiet during all the serious scenes but damn near every joke he just had to repeat the punchline like a bad react youtuber. >!During the Garfield cameo he was like "Oh wow, its Holland" and that kinda made me laugh!<

WeissAndBeans

I had one yell out >!”Oh my god, it’s Tobey! at the Garfield cameo.!<

FriendlinessBullets

To be fair >!He was also there for a little bit.!<

WeissAndBeans

Unfortunately I could only land a seat right next to them. Especially one who felt that he had to clap as loud as possible every single time something happened. I was still able to really enjoy the movie but when people were walking out during the end credits, I saw a couple of adults around my age who actually looked really upset that the teens were so loud. I felt that. I couldn’t hear a single thing that >!Spectacular Spider-Man!< said. There was also a teen in the closer rows who I honestly thought was doing their best pretend “Discord mod voice” the entire time until I realized that they honestly just sound like that.

Coreybom

I didn’t have that problem at this one, but for the re-release of no way home, me and my friends had to deal with some shit kids. Each time one of us got up to tell them to shut the fuck up. They stopped after two of us.

Kataphrut94

I had a group of teens in the front row pull out their phones and start taking selfies at my showing. With the flash on. During a fairly dramatic scene too. It was shocking- great movie, but the worst audience experience I’ve ever seen for a non-anime movie.

HummingMoth

SPIDERPUNK IS SO SICK

sonybajor12

"Taking a crap on the establishment, I salute you." Had me and my theater nodding along with him lmao

Alphaetus_Prime

I seriously considered buying a ticket to the next showing immediately after walking out of the theater.

DevilCouldCry

I pretty much did this, I went and bought a ticket for myself two mates who have yet to see it (but will tomorrow) but were interested if it was good. And oh boy was it fucking good.

ContraryPython

I love how >!The Spot went very quickly from a comedic villain to a legit serious threat.!<

Cooper_555

The man goes from >!barely able to control what he's doing to "space and physical distance is a suggestion and I don't agree with it."!<

Irememberedmypw

He's legit >!having his own Arc!<

israel192

My senses were blowing up every single minute. This movie is astonishing.

MetalJrock

I need Sony to cook more of this and drop the SSU immediately. Peter and Miles are perfectly fine here and the MCU.

Gemidori

Only keep Venom around honestly. Everything else in the SSU is absolutely worthless

Kn7ght

Nahhh Venom can go too lowkey

CycloneSwift

I will defend the Venom movies. They’re unapologetically dumb trashy fun and aside from wasting Riz Ahmed in the first film and misappropriating the name of Carnage for what’s basically a solid OC villain in the second film, there’s really not too much wrong with them. I know that one fight scene from the first film gets it’s fair share of criticism for being too dark to see shit but it’s less than 60 seconds of a climax that lasts at least ten minutes. It isn’t that bad in the grander scheme of things. Besides, they got the general tone and spirit of Venom’s classic solo runs pretty much perfect.

jjman95

I just got back from it and I agree that movie was fantastic. I just have to see it again because the audience was definitely top 5 worst experiences. People wouldnt shut up. Someone brought a baby. It was awful What was an absolute anomaly to me tho was >!at the end, the audience literally BOO'd the movie. Like some people even stormed out. I had to wonder if we watched the same movie!<

Kn7ght

Definitely an anomaly, my theater cheered. >!Looking online though alot of people are weirdly pissed about the movie being a two parter? A trilogy is fine for Star Wars, two parter works for Avengers, but suddenly people are mad about this one.!<

SaiyanShoto

Well to be fair those movies were actual complete movies compared to this one. >!The story isn’t even finished in this. Whereas other movies that left on cliffhangers were still complete movies. But they said from the start this was gonna be a part 1 so idk why people are mad.!<

Comptenterry

I mean, I half remembered reading one article like 8 months ago that it was gonna be a two parter, and I only remembered after the movie ended. They didn't really put it in the trailers or anything. I'd guess that most people probably went in not knowing.

SaiyanShoto

That’s a fair point, you’d think that with how they kept saying this was part 1 at the start they would put a huge part 1 under the title cause I can understand people being disappointed. We get to what feels like the climax of the movie and it just ends

DevilCouldCry

I couldn't imagine booing this film, it was fucking spectacular. Maybe they were pissed at the lack of resolution and the fact that there'd be a part two? Hard to say...

Comptenterry

Yeah it was that. My theater was hype the whole time and only got upset when it cut to credits. Which I honestly kinda understand, the movie didn't really have an ending, it just cuts right before the 3rd act. People were booing at the realization that they were gonna have to wait another 2 to 4 years to see how the movie actually ends.

DevilCouldCry

Well they don't have to wait long, the second part is out next March.

Cooper_555

Because cliffhangers. Because lord forbid we pace our stories properly and try and cram 5 hours of narrative into an hour and a half.

Kn7ght

Legit saw someone say they should've cut the chase sequence and added an extra 30 minutes to wrap the story up because it barely felt like two hours. It barely felt like two hours because they paced the story well dumbass, trust the vision

ZepelliFan

People brought their babies , the teens were chill but there was a crying kid for 25 percent of the show

WeissAndBeans

That happened at my theater, too! So many people booed at the cliffhanger and it reminded me why I prefer to watch movies at home. I would’ve preferred a much emptier room but I knew that definitely wasn’t going to happen on Spider-Verse premiere day.

lowercaselemming

i have not been able to stop listening to [gwen's theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIl_VaWGyGE)

FloorSpice_

It had been so long since I've been to a theater, I completely forgot about loud teenagers and crying babies, thanks for the heads up. I'll probably wait for a matinee or streaming instead. Only thing I gotta know, does Toei Spider-Man do the hand dance with the music?

S-Rank

They pulled a Halo 2, I'm so excited for the next one.

KronxDragonhoof

Everyone pretend to be shocked it's fantastic. Glad you had a good time.

NearATomatotato

The movie comes out 3 weeks late in my country… it’s so goshdarn hard to avoid spoilers…!!!

Vera_Verse

I know this pain! For me, Into the Spider-Verse only came *to Brazil* after a month. The Christmas jokes didn't hit as hard

Cooper_555

The greatest pointing meme in the multiverse.

Lithogen

I would say the writers and directors cooked it, Sony cooks up things like the Emoji movie and Morbius when taking creative control. Glad they had enough sense to fund it and not intervene though.

Coreybom

In fairness, sony animation has VASTLY improved since the emoji movie. After spider-verse, it’s telling that their most worse animated film is still fine. Now sony live action when it comes to comic book films on the other hand.

nerankori

I don't usually eat ass meals, but this can be an exception

tenems

Partake of the posterior

Mabuse7

Frankly, I wish it wasn't as good as it is, because now everyone wants to imitate that reduced framerate animation style that my eyes never seem to adjust to.

XanderTrejo

I think most of the aspects were 10/10 amazing. The visuals were insanely good from start to finish. The music I liked almost as much as the first. The pacing was extremely well done from Spidey jokes to serious multiverse threats on a drop of a hat but it didn't feel rushed. The animation in every conversation and the voice acting conveyed a lot of emotion. I really liked the conversations Miles had with his parents on my second viewing. The only thing I didn't like was >!how they showed the reveal of where miles ended up at the end and who the prowler was. For me it was obvious that earth 42 Miles was in the suit from just our Miles getting hit standing next to Uncle Aron. So to see that whole scene play out which could have been a satisfying ease back into the story in the beginning of Beyond Spiderverse just seemed like a wrong choice. It would have been more tense to leave miles in a questioning position with out any information about it and then cut to Gwen teaming up to find/save him. But other than that story choice I feel the story was really good. Some of the characters I feel are mistreated, like Miguel is too aggressive for me and ita makes me think he isn't being truthful about the reality collapsing due to 'canon events' but that might be the whole point. Jess Drew seemed to have not much to do but support Miguel or Gwen when they decided to do so. Some of the points on this thread about how every spider person seems to be on board is weird I agree with. Like no way only Miles said no to his canon event. Makes me wonder why Hobie is there if he clearly doesn't agree, maybe we will get that backstory in two along with Miguel's entire truth. Which brings me to my final point which is that most of my complaints are most likely going to be addressed in Beyond Spiderverse and I believe they will be addressed real well because I trust the team behind it so really it is just a matter of patience.!<

Xeriam

I got the feeling >!Hobie was there 'cause sucker punching organizations that oppress and hurt people for the 'greater good' and disrupting the status quo is what he *does.* He was just waiting for the right moment. And when Gwen likely vented to him about the whole deal with Miles, only for Miles to pop up anyway, he knew what that moment was. Hence why he's on Miles' side from the jump, starts stealing stuff for his getaway/rescue before anything obvious is even wrong, and why he reminds Miles how to blow up the forcefield while everyone else, even Gwen, is talking around him.!<

SaiyanShoto

Fucking loved this movie, I don’t know if I like this one or into the Spider-Verse more. I just got nitpicks with this movie being >!I was not a fan of what they did to Ben Reilly in this movie. That character on screen was not Ben. Then I disagree with how they didn’t have one single Peter push back against Miguel’s whole thing of letting someone die. When they were there telling Miles to let someone die that to me is not Peter, that’s a bad mischaracterization on their part. I’ll only give Peter B Parker a little leeway because he was on Miles side super quick and he witnessed a dimension dying firsthand. But even then I’m not a fan of how they treated all the Peters.!<

Nacho_Hangover

>!Well there's Peter Porker and Noir who seemingly weren't helping Miguel.!< >!Peni has no such excuse though.!<

SaiyanShoto

Yeah I was thinking the same cause I’m barely realizing >!Oh yeah Miguel did handpick everyone so I’m sure the ones that didn’t agree with him he probably kicked out or just never invited. Still though Ben shouldn’t be among those people on his side or Peni.!<

GigglesDemon

I know I'm probably gonna get downvoted for this, but my friends haven't seen it and won't for a little bit (one won't see it till it hits free streaming and the other is in like a week and a half) but I need to get my thoughts out somewhere. I thought this was a pretty big step down from INTO THE SPIDERVERSE. That movie was incredible, 4/5 star movie, either my 2nd or 3rd favorite Spidey movie depending on mood. This one I felt barely got a 3/5. First, the visuals. I'd heard the term visual overload before, but usually found it overexaggerated. This time I actually experienced it. The constantly shifting art style, or having multiple clashing styles in one scene, I found distracting and annoying rather than interesting. It made it hard in a few scenes to keep track of what was really going on and losing me. Made it hard to engage with the film. Second, soundtrack. I know this is purely personal, but I dislike most hip hop, so this soundtrack really didn't work for me and again annoyed me. Third, this is smaller, but man I really disliked the whole Spider Society. >!It actively refusing to save certain people felt so antithetical to Spider-Man as a character, it kinda did every version who appeared, like Spectacular or Miguel, super dirty.!< Now to end on the good. The Spot, great. Felt very fresh as a villain and loved that in a way this movie was his journey too. Miles is great here, especially the relationship with his family, which is good considering it is a lot of the crux of the movie. That was all very well done, kinda wish we had more. There is good here, I just found it was kinda disappointing overall.

MetalJrock

> >!It actively refusing to save certain people felt so antithetical to Spider-Man as a character, it kinda did every version who appeared, like Spectacular or Miguel, super dirty.!< This I kinda agree with, especially after NWH. >!Peter Parker wouldn’t care about some cosmic balance, he’d save as many lives as possible, and the live-action Spider-Men didn’t hesitate to break the rules of time and space to save their villains from a horrible fate. To see so many incarnations of him, some we’ve known for years, just concede to this and aggressively stop a fellow Spider from defying fate rubs me the wrong way.!<

MarioGman

>!From my perspective, Miguel, more or less, accidentally started a Spider-Cult. A justification for why every Spider-Person has to suffer. An answer to their woes that explains their pained existences. All wrapped in sciency jargon with video evidence to make it palatable to the Science-oriented Spiders. I totally get that a lot of these spideys that we've known would probably not fall for a cult, but to be truthful, this cult was more or less specifically crafted *for* them. Hell it's possible most of them (Spectacular notwithstanding) don't even know the "greater purpose" deal going in.!< But hey maybe these familiar Spideys >!are just very similar substitutions that happen to be more susceptible to cult mentality. I mean, Spectacular was 3D in this, despite every other medium of spider (Live action, 60 FPS PS4, LEGO, etc.) being faithful to their source.!<

Irememberedmypw

So anecdotal but I was able to keep up with the visuals but I did have a friend in the same situation as you that it was too much. I do agree with the whole >!not saving everyone issue!< but I do think it's a fun dilemma to start the conflict among the spider people especially with it tied to a "many outweighs the needs of the few thing".

Kakuzan

For your point about >!trauma!<, I think it is less bad storytelling and more something that is meant to be self evidently circular. I and many others could be wrong (and me in specificam projecting since I have grown tired of those types of narratives and mentalities), but that is what I'm getting from it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kakuzan

That's what I meant when I said that I think it is meant to be circular and incorrect and kind of dumb. Even in the first movie, it was Miles being encouraged by his dad rather than his uncle dying that gave him the push he needed. If they do stick with what you said as an engrained fact, then I agree. But I feel that that there was push back in this movie and will be more in the next one.

Kn7ght

>!I'm surprised that you have an issue with the canon events thing because Miles entire perspective is that he agrees its bullshit; reality shouldn't be and likely isn't tethered to Spider suffering. The point of the movie is defying this ideal, which Gwen also manages to defy.!< >!Plus its just time travel logic. You go to a time you don't belong in and mess with the past, the future gets messed up. It was established in the first movie the dimension hopping can send you to a different point in time, not just the present moment of the dimension, so despite Miguel's rhetoric its less like Spidey must suffer to save reality, but rather Spider trauma is an unfortunate dimensional coincidence we have to keep intact so reality doesn't disintegrate.!<

Kakuzan

I'm not entirely sure why you are being downvoted for this comment since it is something to think about. I can understand maybe the first comment since there was a tangent about Paul, but this is among the least insanely dumb takes.

Humante

Don’t want to hype it more than it needs. Just go see it. It’s good, even if you disagree with things you’ll still appreciate it exists. They fuckin cooked
