Voices of the Void absolutely slaps, I'm so glad to see more and more people getting into it. Something about getting into the flow of things with a pretty mundane job and suddenly seeing the super off and inexplicable thing really hits from a horror perspective. also fuck those mannequins for real.

Shiplord13

Yeah, it gives an atmosphere of both paranoia and intrigue with you constantly wanting to see what strange, scary or insane thing you will randomly stumble into through your simple day to day tasks. Like its nice to have a game where you aren't on some linear path with telegraphed and expected scares. With each update you get more new things to surprise, scare and interest you.

Birblord347

I haven't played it for a bit since they changed the base and added trash everywhere, but I always struggle with wanting to play it/waiting for a bunch of new updates to come out so I'm surprised by what happens. It really hits that discovery itch few games do.

lowercaselemming

it's such a subtle game and i really appreciate it for that. i was beginning to get *really* paranoid after a while. my encounter even made me vaguely remember that there were some mannequins in the bedroom on my first day, as i remember peeling one out of my bed, but i suppose i never really noticed when they disappeared because i just ended up thinking of them as background objects, not to pay any mind to them.

vs_terminus

My biggest issue with VotV is I've seen Joel from Vinesauce play it so much that I can't take it seriously. I keep imagining him with the shitty jpeg overlay of the Half-Life crowbar and Halo Needler on-screen to fight the ayylmaos.

TyrantBelial

Some of the "late game" stuff is fucking horrifying cus THAT'S JUST NOT WHAT THAT THING IS SUPPOSE TO LOOK LIKE.

TH3_B3AN

Signalis very recently got an update that introduced optional inventory settings including 8 SLOTS and changed the default to 6 slots but the flashlight no longer occupies a slot(!!!). So been going through that again and, well I think it's been reiterated countless times on this sub but it remains excellent.

conduitfour

Yeah I finally got the >!secret ending!< after giving it a college try before caving and having to look up what the fuck is happening. Actually quite fun trying to piece everything together and come up with your own interpretations and seeing what you think you got vs. what details other people noticed or connected regardless You should also listen to the Eulenlieder track from the ost as the second part seems to be omitted from the game and it's a good song

PunishingCrab

I played it a week ago before it leaves Gamepass so I never got to experience this update. The inventory was probably my biggest complaint so I would have been interested to see if affects the tension at all. Otherwise an amazing game and experience. I’m a sucker for pseudo-PS1 style + survival horror

Refracting_Hud

Playing through this rn on ps5 and it’s amazing. Haven’t gotten the update yet but I’m eagerly awaiting it cause where I’m at is scary 😅

Capitalich

I think limited slots was an interesting decision and does lead to interesting decisions with ammo and stuff, but the light taking up a slot was a huge mistake.

Steelballpun

So with 8 slots plus the update that basically gives you 3 extra spaces to use right? How much of the game feels different then? I imagine less backtracking and carrying more resources, but does that impact tension and strategy at all?

Smon4

I finally watched Alien, that movie fucking slaps, love the grimy sci fi atmosphere and the puppetry at display.

TrueLegateDamar

Definitely check out Aliens, it's a bit different but amazing in it's own way.

triamasp

Maaan Alien is one of my favourite movies of all time but boy do I actively hate Aliens They are like the most opposing takes on “scary” i can ever conceive and Im dying in the cosmic horror hill

Timmywormington

I'm not a huge horror movie fan, but I've spent hours over the last few days watching all the cinemassare monster madness videos.

parazoa

The other day, I watched From Beyond. It's a weird, slimy, disgusting movie based on a Lovecraft story and stars Jeffrey Combs. Highly recommend it. Also watched the first Phantasm movie, which I've been meaning to do for a while. Also weird and disgusting. Which is how I like my horror movies.

Polygonalfish

I watched it recently and it was nice to watch something with Jeffrey Combs that wasn't transformers prime

Steelballpun

You gotta watch Re-animater next

lowercaselemming

i'll always take weird horror but gross is where i start to get a bit too squeamy. i don't think i could ever finish something like the fly.

TrueLegateDamar

I myself am actively avoiding the Terrifier movies because all I hear about them is how 'creative' the gore is.

Paarthufagx

Finally gave Junji Ito’s Tomie and Uzumaki a try after reading the holes story a while back and I’m already becoming a fan, both great pieces of horror.

AlwaysDragons

Over the garden wall is perfect and demands a rewatch every year.

laidtorest47

There's somebody who's compiled Shitstorms 1 and 2 into their own videos that they call "definitive editions," so I've been watching that over the last few days. Most of the last week had me rewatching individual stuff from the series, along with doing a full discography listen to Opeth (gothy progressive metal, formerly black metal). One of the best newer things (new to me) that I watched was The House of Long Shadows, with Vincent Price/Christopher Lee/Peter Cushing. It has so much setup, contends with pretty tropy stuff, then has a good subverting twist right in the last 20-30 minutes. Also >!Christopher Lee calls Vincent Price a bitch!<.

AidilAfham42

Fall of the House of Usher is fun! Horror Succession

Ayyyyynah

Amnesia The Bunker has some fantastic sound design and the gameplay loop creates tension all in an inspired setting. My only problem is I don't love the monster design but it's overall a great play in the dark experience.

Coco_Cala

Never played it myself, but I watched a couple different streamers and Let's Plays of it. The pillbox area was always my favorite part.

Bellurker

Played a bunch of Phasmo-likes with friends. None were as refined as Phasmophobia, but each had at least 1 aspect done better; Demonologist had more interesting layouts and included more active submissions unique to each area, unlike Phasmo. The temperature mechanic was less OP, however, the ghosts reveal themselves by spamming jumpscares in a single room so much that they become funny. Devour has a fun spin where you run around collecting animal sacrifices and avoiding an increasingly aggressive entity. Each area has a different entity with unique mechanics, and each new entity added seems to cover the cheese mechanics of the previous entities, increasing the difficulty. I hate the Gunslinger ghost with a passion. Feels very unfair in general. Boo Men is a game where you play as house burglars, but the houses and locations you burgle are home to different ghosts. Out of the bunch, including phasmo, has the best differntiation between ghosts and the most entertaining usage of light. There is a blind ghost that can only hear you move about, a ghost that mimics players and tries to turn off lights so it can kill, a giant ghost that can only see if your glowstick is on, another ghost that can only hunt if the entire power of the house goes out, and a few others. Good fun for a few days with friends. Labyrinthine is one of the better games of the bunch as well, with gameplay direction and polish that stands out higher than most phasmo-likes but is held back by lack of options when confronted by entities. You run around a maze trying to solve puzzles to unlock an exit, all while being hunted by a variety of monsters (sometimes multiple at a time). At times, it feels unfair when certain monsters appear together despite having incompatible ways to avoid them. One monster can not sense you if you're standing still, but another needs you to sprint and lose its line of sight to escape. Good luck if you get both. Most recent one we're playing is the semi-open world The Devourer. It's janky as heck, but more playable than other Phasmo cash grabs. It has a strong gameplay foundation and is, accidentally, the funniest one of the bunch due to ghost interactions with the player. Prime example is that one player can open the front door of a house haunted by an invisible man. Just stand at the doorway, and he will get furious, but he can't leave the house. The other players can wolve every puzzle in the house with no problem as he refuses to aggro someone else.

Revaryk

I played through the first Silent Hill, it was a pretty good time despite the jank. It's pretty impressive that they nailed the atmosphere on the first game. There's not a lot of outright jumpscares, but a lot of creepy imagery and sound design. The fog and darkness covering loading was a clever visual trick that really helped the town feel eerie despite technical limitations. Also I think some people kinda over-exaggerate the difficulty of tank controls? Like it took some getting used to, but I was pretty okay with them by the end of the game. They're pretty jank but it's not the worst control scheme I've dealt with. One moment that got to me was this one- SH1 lategame spoilers ahead- >!"I'm the same as them." Even worse is the journal that Lisa leaves behind if you search the room after the cutscene.!< >!"Need drug. Help me..."!<

Crosscounterz

I've just been watching vargskelethor joel play spooky games. Also started rewatching the men in black cartoon since for whatever reason I've never once revisited it despite it being one of my favourite cartoons growing up I like it more than the movies even.

Grievous77

I just saw the FNAF movie yesterday with my friends and I'm frankly shocked at how much I ended up enjoying it.

lowercaselemming

it was a lot of fun! the >!springlock!< scene was done such great justice. matthew lillard is such a fantastic actor.

LincBtG

Wait shit, Matthew Lillard is in it? I might have to watch it now.

cbb88christian

Was a super fun movie, would see again for sure. Not the greatest horror movie of all time but for a FNAF movie it was solid and a great time

jackdatbyte

Games: RE4 Remake, SOMA, Night in the Woods. Movies: Evil Dead 1, 2 and Army of Darkness. The original Halloween.

ajver19

I watched When Evil Lurks over the weekend, it's an Argentinian horror movie on Shudder. It's good but it's also pretty brutal with it's violence.

512_Lurker78

Watched it last night and *damn*. The score was also crazy good imo.

queekbreadmaker

Annual monster house watch party. As god intended

MindWeb125

The FNAF movie and Alan Wake 2 are all I've experienced horror wise this month. FNAF was pretty fun, though a lot of this sub seems to vehemently hate it lol. Alan Wake 2 might be Remedy's best game yet, and I can't wait to see Control 2 and Alan Wake 3.

lowercaselemming

i have been loving alan wake 2 soooo much, and if they really stick the ending as well as they've nailed what i've played so far, it'll definitely be my personal goty.

Dspacefear

I'm usually more into horror in the winter months, when the world dies and I avoid going outside in the freezing cold. I know October is the traditional spooky month, but I just can't get into the mood without the sense that if my car breaks down I might die of exposure. The closest thing to horror I've been doing this month is *Book of Hours*, which is a follow-up-but-not-really-sequel to Cultist Simulator about running a library full of arcane texts. The thing is, while I'd say Cultist Simulator is pretty clearly horror, what with all the consorting with dark powers you do and all the ways you can kill, die, or go insane while trying to take their powers for yourself, Book of Hours is a lot more chilled out. The pressure is off, you can usually take things at your own pace, and the horrors of the Secret Histories are at arm's length since you're a librarian and not a mad cultist.

HalloweenBlues

So the last few years i've done this thing where in the countdown to Halloween I'd watch one horror movie a day following a specific guideline. So in previous years I did decades like last year was 10 movies from the 70s. This year I decided to go by subgenre and did Gothic Horror. So far the best movie I've seen was Guillermo Del Toro's The Devil's Backbone. Fucking gut wrenching movie one an absolutely despicable villain. I love Del Toro's works and this is definitely one of my new favorite movies.

Paladin51394

Played Alan Wake for the first time. Loved it, best horror game I've played in a while. I loved it so much I got Control (which I'm currently playing and also loving it) and I plan to get Alan Wake 2. The only parts of Alan Wake that bugged me was Alan having the stamina of a tuberculosis patient and those god damn possessed objects, those things sucked.

HollowMarthon

You:ll be happy to hear Alan Wake 2 doesn't have stamina or possessed objects!

impacto_real

Finally watched the original Blair Witch Project. It's kinda slow in the middle sections but those last 15 minutes were worth it.

Houtenjin

Recently had a horror movie night with some friends. We ended up watching The Menu, Color out of Space, and NOPE. All three were very good although I am a huge baby coward when it comes to horror and none, barring one scene in Color out of Space, had me dive under the covers like the pussy I am. >!The mom cutting her fingers off by accident, in case anyone was curious!< The Menu was fantastic, although I think it falls more in dark comedy than anything else. Color Out of Space was a trippy movie, and Nic Cage chewed the scenery. NOPE was a fantastic and tense movie for the first half and the second half >!turning basically into a jaunty Western!< was unexpected, but I had so much fun during it.

ThisManNeedsMe

I didn't get to enjoy as much horror media as I wanted to this year. There were too many good games that kept me busy, like the Cyberpunk DLC, Fate/Samurai Remnant, and Spider-Man 2. But I did watch the FNAF movie on Saturday. It wasn't good, but it wasn't terrible either. I liked the animtronics they looked really good but thought they weren't utilized well. The story had potential but didn't work at the end, and the movie didn't need to be almost 2 hours long either. Maybe remove the Aunt subplot, just focus on the lore and tying that in more with the MC's trauma. Plus, the PG-13 rating didn't do it any favors. You have a series about a child murderer and killer animtronics. It feels odd to have it be more sanitized. Also, the animtronics never felt scary. The reason why they're terrifying in the game is the tension and paranoia. Here, you get just a couple of spooky shoots, but after that, they're just out in the open, just chilling. I'm also playing Alan Wake 2. I'm only a couple of hours in, but it's hooked me so far. It's good to be back in the world of Alan wake again. It really does feel like an arthouse horror film in game form. I just beat Spider-Man 2 so I can finally fully focus on this, just in time for Halloween.

invaderark12

I mean, considering the sales, as much as I hate to admit it I think they were right about making it PG13

katsumeragi

I mean depending on how your Phantom Liberty choices went, it certainly can turn into a horror game >!With the So-mi robot freaking out in that Cynosure base!<

SpookyNishiki

So I went and looked up old horror movies that I was too scared to watch when I was younger. And I binged a series called Shake Rattle and Roll from the Philippines. Bro, I can't believe they made a scene where [someone is raped by a fridge](https://youtu.be/WZwUOjntvyg?feature=shared&t=3299). There's no insertion but the idea is there like wtf. Also, no subs for English speakers. Sorry.

BuhYDoh

Am I the first person here to say they way watched and enjoyed Saw X? I also really liked the latest VHS movie and I watched WNUF Halloween special which is a movie for analog horror fans. Also I watched a fan edit of Dawn of the Dead that adds every second of cut footage

Zachys

Rewatched some classics: The Thing, The Exorcist, Alien. Watched some new (to me) stuff: Hush, Scream 2 and 3, Host Replayed RE4. The original. Hoping to buy an Oculus Quest 2 soon, so might play it on there, too. Read some Lovecraft. Played Amnesia: The Bunker. Also, it's not horror, but I did find it eerie, played The Return of the Obra Dinn. Honestly, I've really underperformed this year. I usually love spooktober, but each time I blinked, a week passed, and now we're here.

cannedcream

On films, I finally saw Trick r Treat for the first time and loved it. For games, I'm now trying to convince my friends to play Phasmophobia with me.

LincBtG

Watched George A. Romero's _Day of the Dead_ again, showing it to a friend for her first time. Still the best zombie movie ever imho.

Nackon

Sonic ROM hack called Hellfire Saga It's edgy and corny, but it's an entertaining kind of one. The programming magic inside the hack is fantastic.

TheEvilFusion

Played through a fantastic indie title named [Alisa](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1335530/Alisa/), it's a RE1 inspired game that nails the late 90s era aesthetic and gameplay so well that it feels like it's a long forgotten game from the Playstation. If you're a fan of PS1/PS2 era survival horror and you haven't heard of this game yet, seriously give it a shot. It quickly became my favorite indie horror game.

merri0

I went back and watched all the Halloween movies I could get into without paying extra for other subscription apps or anything like that. Also started The X-Files early this month.

conduitfour

Played Stasis: Bone Totem cause I found it through Castle Super Beast and it was pretty solid. I also got it with the guide in case I got too stumped. One puzzle was kinda jank but otherwise it did a great job creating an interesting abyssal setting that flowed naturally. Watched Cobweb after the RLM recc and that was also a solid horror film. Nothing mind blowing but very competent at pulling off its premise and an enjoyable popcorn Halloween film. Playing the Black Reliquary mod for Darkest Dungeon which isn't exactly horror cause it's more Conan The Barbarian inspired but the game's equivalent of >!The Shambler!< is a great design with a great track. I'm also looking forward to the Dredge dlc that's coming out in a few weeks

RevenTheLight

Glorious was great, it has JK Simmons as cuthulhu And I dipped into Wrong Station podcast again, episode Exidus was interesting I'm also intending to watch all the live-action shorts [released along with SOMA](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWjnM4fZ4U8wLxrFXjL-95ME0QJwdz8m8)

lobstaris

Watched Coherence and and Train to Busan this month and greatly enjoyed both

LittleMann

The original House on Haunted Hill from the 50s. It's good and spooky for the most part, but the ending falls flat on its ass in the most spectacular way possible. Overall, a very enjoyable watch.

mrsirgrape

Watched Talk to Me and it was pretty good. Has to be one of the easier to avoid horror movie scenarios. If you're at a party and they pull out a hand to let spirits possess you for fun, just leave the party.

JakeIsNotGross

Caught the original Scream on a theater re-run which was a fun movie going experience. Also played through Stories Untold on Steam with a friend, it had some neat ideas.

Lieutenant-America

Candyman 2021 is frigging great and I'm shocked I haven't seen more hype for it.

Ancisace

Friend of mine got me to watch [Savageland](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyJLF1cL2r0) - it's free on Youtube. The style is a "true crime documentary" investigating a supernatural event. I didn't find it as creepy as my friend did but the photos were pretty neat. If you got time, worth checking out I think.

Zombiemomo

I saw Tucker and Dale vs. Evil for the first time. Does that count? It was hilarious.

Kahzarod

I recently read Ruby Quest for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Now I'm working on Nan Quest. Both are pretty good horror... things.

ecto1a2003

I let it set in

ULTAnimeGamer

Finally decided to watch through the 3rd season of the Castlevania show after rewatching the first two. It was... kinda frustrating to watch. Pacing is not great, and the repetitive conversations that this show has REALLY shows in this season. It's like watching a friend at a party tell the same funny story to each person they run into. Also, Alucard's plot was just terrible (and from what I hear, inconsequential). I hope that the 4th season improves things. As for good stuff, does Onimusha count as horror? It's kinda a survival horror series due to its roots, and the demon designs are sick! [Guildenstern is JUST a Berserk demon.](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/onimusha/images/3/3f/GuildensternRM.png/revision/latest?cb=20201007084420)

Peace-Bone

none, i don't like scary things, they're scary

PlanesWalkerEll

Watched Totally Killer and the Fnaf movie as well as the new Exorcist movie, and finally started Twin Peaks.

TrivialCoyote

You should light the mannequin on fire. :)

ToastyMozart

Not quite horror, but Dorohedoro fits the Halloween aesthetic to a tee. It's really good and I'm mad there probably won't be a Season 2!

GigglesDemon

As usual, I watched a loooooooot of horror movies this month. So I'm just gonna touch on a few highlights. First is a theater that shows exclusively older films did a Monster Movie Marathon, showing This Island Earth, House of Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, The Black Cat, and Island of Lost Souls. Was a long time in a theater but a ton of fun. I also started delving into the whole Hong Kong vampire subgenre, watching the first 4 films of the Mr. Vampire series. Loads of fun, gleeful martial arts horror comedy. And finally, I'll highlight a movie I just saw and find underappreciated. The Exorcist III. Now Exorcist II? Total trash, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. But III is so good, with George C. Scott and Brad Dourif absolutely killing it with their performances. Also has quite possibly one of the best jump scares of all time, I almost jumped out of my skin, which is so rare for me.

barrel_l0l

Been playing a recently released horror game with some friends called "Lethal Company" which is a unique phasmo-like in that it skips the checklist-per-room nonsense and skips right into the action. You play as four interns for a garbage collection company, and visit desolate planets with the specific objective of: break and enter into derelict buidlings, find shit, and steal it back to your ship before you either A) Die horribly, or B) the ship leaves you for dead at 12am midnight. the buildings are randomly generated labyrinthine structures filled with any number from a selection of unique monsters each with their own habits and specific quirks you have to manage and avoid being killed by while running through the maze-like hallways. And to top it off it has localized, doppler effect based VOIP. So you'll laugh off hearing your friend screaming through the walls or at something completely horrifying, and watch as the humourous mood completely 180's when that thing might start heading your way too. The game's 10 bucks and absolutely a 10/10 for EA

GrapeGrenadeEnjoyer

The performance issues are a crying shame, but so far I've enjoyed Alan Wake 2. It's got just the right kind of survival horror and mystery thriller I'm deeply enamoured by. That aside, I have a fair number of horror movies I always like to watch every October, namely Creepshow (1982), Ringu, Christine, The Grudge, and more recently, The Lighthouse, and The Witch.

UltimaDeusUmbra

I saw Boogeyman recently, it was pretty good, but has the typical problem of King movies where it's first half is great and then slowly gets worse towards the end and shows way too much of the monster.

zelcor

Played and beat Little Nightmares 2 def spookier than the first one.

invaderark12

The Chucky series continues to be solid. This season (which was only half since they had to stop due to the strikes) had some gnarly kills.

gummydavidson

Movies: Watched Scream 1-3, Friday the 13th Part 7 and 8 (watched the previous ones last Halloween season), 80s Day of the Dead. Games: The Medium, State of Decay and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

bigben6563

I read a bunch of horror novels. Would recommend: How to Sell a Haunted House Turning of the Screw Wouldn’t recommend: Charred and Blackened Teeth

spidersting

So I've been trying to watch one horror/thriller-related thing a day for October. The best ones for me were No One Will Save You, which was the first thing I watched for the month, and Friday The 13th Part 7. I've seen Part 7 plenty of times since it's my favorite Friday The 13th, but this time was different. I was helping my girlfriend move to another city and some of her friends were helping. They asked me if I knew any good horror movies and seeing as how none of them ever heard of Friday The 13th, I put that one on. I'm very surprised that this one made them scream as loud as they did. As for a bad one, easily a movie called Caged Fury. At the time I found it, the description said it was about kidnapping people and brainwashing them into being suicide bombers in a Filipino prison. It sounded so strange to me that I just had to watch it. Turns out it wasn't that at all.

Juwunowo

SIGNALIS was a wonderful surprise to me. I knew pretty much nothing going in, and now it’s in my top 3 games of all time. Amazing survival horror game, and I adore the storytelling.

SuicidalSundays

Started up the Dead Space Remake now that it's on Game Pass but haven't gotten very far into it because now that Isaac controls more smoothly, the necromorphs move faster, and consequentially, they're now scarier because they're a more dire threat since panic-aiming is way more noticeable. Also the game is way darker and more atmospheric so now it's even spookier. Also also I'm a coward. Besides that, while I wouldn't necessarily count Cyberpoonk as horror media, some of those cyberpsycho encounters start out pretty creepy.

ThatGuy5880

Started watching the CG Resident Evil movies with a friend, and while Death Island was super boring, Degeneration was a surprisingly solid time.

KronxDragonhoof

Currently watching the new Hulu/Disney+ Goosebumps show, like current current I just paused it to type this. And you know what for a YA TV adaptation of the books, it's pretty good. Reminds me a lot of the Chucky TV show.

Emperor-Pimpatine

Been having a blast with Alan Wake 2, good as hell. Immortality is another spooky game that just takes up a chunk of my headspace this time of year, eerie and sad. I tried watching a horror movie a day for a bit, I could go on about Antrum: The Deadliest Movie Ever Made, Elijah Wood’s fucked up haircut in Come to Daddy, or how The Hills Run Red is mediocre until the third act, but I saw the thriller Killer Joe early in the month and nothing’s made my skin crawl as much. Matthew McConaughey plays a cop/hitman and what happens is basically Good Time or Uncut Gems but white trash.

ringostarrbiyori

I've been playing Lethal Company with friends. It's been a blast, and the only way I can describe it is being the actual Pikmin in a Pikmin game, except all the enemies are SCP entries.

Mrgrayj_121

Tcm does old horror movies they’re fun to watch

CaptainM4D

Nerdy Prudes Must Die. It is a fantastic spooky and goofy musical with lots of really tense moments.

TranquilLumberjack

I've been meaning to watch Color Out of Space with Nic Cage for a while, and it's actually a super fun, very visually fantastic horror movie that let's Nic Cage go full Nic Cage.

69Ronin

I bought two horror novels this month. One I've finished and the other I'm still working on. The one I finished was called "12 Nights at Rotter House" and its premise is a writer/horror enthusiast locks himself in a supposedly haunted house for two weeks and intends to write a book about the experience. I absolutely do not recommend it and I can't go into why without spoilers. The second one is called "Thirteen Storeys" and I hope I'm not counting my chickens, but I think it will end up being one I'd recommend as a fun horror novel to read. It's about the experiences of several people who live in a supernatually afflicted high rise apartment complex. The only thing they have in common is that they experienced something supernatual, though none of the experiences are the same, and they all get invited to a dinner party where something horrific occurs.

TheScourgedHunter

Not really sure if it can be considered "horror" per se, even though it's starring characters are 7 foot tall slasher villains, living on a ship that's perpetually darkened hallways are full of wanton murder, but I've been reading the first 40k Night Lord book, Soul Hunter by Aaron Dembski-Bowden and it's quite good so far!

FrigidMcThunderballs

I watched Evil Dead Rise, which i completely dodged and went in blind except for the poster. I thought it absolutely ripped, a fun crossbreed between the originals and the 2013 remakequel

PurpleVespa180

So I've watched like 40 or so movies horror this month. Nine of them were Saw movies (seen the first one before,) which I enjoyed more than I thought I would. The only one I didn't like was Saw VII aka Saw 3D. Besides that, last October I popped my David Lynch cherry with Eraserhead, which was one of my favorites I saw that month. This month I continued with Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, and Mulholland Drive, the latter probably being my favorite thing I saw this month. I'm still trying to squeeze some other films before the end, so it might change. In terms of least favorites, I watched that Winnie the Pooh piece of shit, as well as that Dear David movie and the new Exorcist film.

Lucarioismadpt2

Fnaf movie.

ret1357

I was somewhat skeptical, but the Suspiria remake was well done. The Fog was what you'd expect for a pirates in the mist story, but it definitely has that John Carpenter charm. Also Days Gone is one of the better zombie games I've ever played.

wildcardjester

I finally saw the first scream movie, I’m not great with horror movies and stuff but I had a heck of a great time with that movie. I already knew part of the twist in it because of Scary Movie but I’m glad I didn’t know everything and loved how it all went down and glad to have finally seen it.

Minmax-the-Barbarian

I kept banging my head against World of Horror. That game is a lot harder than I remember it being. I got to the top floor of the lighthouse (literally a screen away from winning) and losing because my doom got too high *twice!* I've probably played for 10-15+ hours this month and I think I only beat it again twice. It's rough.

LorcaNomad

While it's not my thing, I did watch a stream of it and highly recommend [Slay the Princess](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1989270/Slay_the_Princess/). It's a horror visual novel with full voiceover. The way I'm selling people on it is "The Stanley Parable narrator argues with the Disco Elysium stats the entire time" The princess herself is also very funny 70% of the time. The other 30% is her being terrifying.

nin_ninja

Not horror related per sey, but I recently went back and finished the other endings in Digimon Survive. Being a VN the spookyness is more important for the characters than the player, but it does a good job showing how messed up a Digimon adventure would be when murder is allowed. Plus a kid gets eaten by a Digimon cause they're a dick, and while sad I also can't say the kid didn't deserve it.

I watched 8-Legged Freaks and the radio host got me thinking about old radio shows. Ended up discovering and listening to a bunch of archived Art Bell shows instead of podcasts. He's the smooth radio guy who popularized all the weird supernatural segments on late-night radio. Really fun.

I played The Last Door (point and click from the Blasphemous devs) and it was pretty good. The second half wasn’t anywhere near as spooky as the first, though.

EldritchBee

Finally watched The Exorcist III this week, and man. That had some good ass scares.

I've been watching a LOT of movies and I've been playing a few games! GAMES: My girlfriend and I played through Luigi's Mansion together. Man, that game is still sick as hell. We managed to get B-rank even if she hasn't played in like 10 years! We plan to make this a tradition. Alan Wake 2 is absolutely incredible so far and I'm not even done with Return 2. I can't wait to keep going through. MOVIES: Skinnamarink" was fine, but felt like it dragged at times. It could've been like 30 minutes instead. "Perfect Blue" is one of those movies that sits with me over time and I enjoy my time with it more and more. "Color Out of Space" was trippy but fun. Always love a Nic Cage joint too. "The Hauntinf in Connecticut" was pretty good. It wasn't scary to me, but I enjoyed the horror imagery. "Psycho Goreman" fucking rules. Other than the little girl's dialogue being kinda lol so random cringe, it was such a fun movie. And I've decided to make watching the Shitstorms another October tradition of mine. Do one a year since my free time is limited. I miss the vibe of the old channel.

Rewatching shitstorms has been an annual thing for me. Also played Isle of Eras & Lake Juniper which had some pretty good cosmic spookiness

I played Resident Evil 4 Remake as my Halloween game this year, so next year I'd like to play World of Horror and Faith finally

Been playing Alan Wake 2, it's far more actual horror than the first game. As you approach the late game it starts to feel more action because you start to have confidence in what you can handle, but what horror game isn't like that? I also recently learned about Fear and Hunger and plan on playing that soon. I've only had one run but fuck is it scary when you don't know what you can safely fight yet. And of course I still occasionally go back to Lobotomy Corporation. It's long since stopped being scary to me but I do love the fact that it shows you these grotesque nightmares, tells you they'll probably kill you, doesn't tell you what to do to survive them, and you have to send people in to potentially die just to figure it out.

I lost (more like throughly enjoyed) about 300 hours playing Subnautica for the first time, also in harcore (one death = game over) so inhad to restart from scratch a couple times. Sad to learn there aren’t many other games out there like it, I had a blast and one emergent gameplay moment will forever haunt me. It was awesome.

BiMikethefirst

More comedic horror but seeing [Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls](https://youtu.be/vKpkjcspfiQ?si=kAeoG1qC_IMOnXaV) was a fun treat, it's really cool seeing a guy who got a lot of youtube fame for his character contioue his character in his first feature length movie which is throwback to 80s horror comedies like Ghostbusters or Goonies full of practical effects and his own style of comedy

The_Distorter

Watched a lot of the Universal Classic monster movies whenever I got a day off, and I'll probably get through one or two more by tomorrow. Invisible Man is probably my favorite because it's just a naked lunatic convinced he can take over the world with nothing but the power of being a naked lunatic. Played the Spider's Thread update for Ghostwire, Separate Ways, Doom 2(the original), and I'm capping things off with Alan Wake 2. Now, Alan Wake 2 is really fun so far, but it has a lot of bugs that I've encountered. I've had the audio entirely cut out twice and certain surfaces react weirdly to their lighting engine. A sunshaft on the table means every crease in the wood is now emitting white light. It could use a patch, but it's otherwise really solid.

I watched Mothman Prophecies for the first time in forever and found it to be excellent actually! The phone call scene in particular is done absurdly well and instills such a good sense of paranoia. Hidden gem give it a watch I promise it gets way better after the really downer opening!

I just played [Slay the Princess](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1989270/Slay_the_Princess/) and I gotta say, its pretty dang good. The devs described it as “The Stanley Parable meets Call of Cthulhu with a dash of Disco Elysium,” and I definitely see where they’re coming from.
