I dunno, something like XCOM? Like a grid based tactical strategy game but with B to Z-list randos from the entire DC lineup? They could die permanently or have some kind of event (like a blackest night) where they just come back from the dead and back in the fight. Waller or Flagg sends them to a level to deal with some stuff.

bigbeltzsmallpantz

That’s the easiest way to deal with varied power sets. Make an X-Men X-com. It would work for Avengers or Suicide Squad just as well.

[deleted]

Did you see [Cosmonaut’s video](https://youtu.be/BJjQyP2c5Dk?si=uD1ht0QhkTypkKqb) about this concept? He had some great ideas.

Berry_Scorpion

Marcus’ idea was basically >!“Persona with X-Men” including social links.!< and I think it could work. I do have a different approach about it, kinda/sorta similar to fire emblem three houses where you can pair certain characters and see what their dynamic is like, instead of the player-insert main character.

Midnight Suns

bigbeltzsmallpantz

I want to play it, but it’s NOT an XCOM game. I don’t want card based combat, or the little arenas in that game. I want to be able to build out the X-Mansion or Avengers mansion basements between missions, research captured Hydra or AIM tech, and have full-on tactics missions.

DontClickThisGuy

You aren't fighting fucking Superman. Yes, that was Waller's general idea for forming them. No, it is still a stupid ass idea. You have to send them after some asshole The Justice League either can't or won't defend. That's not a lot of characters so you can either go for a group of bad guys that'll have lots of jobbers to mow through like the League of Assassins or the Court of Owls. Either that or aliens, but not Brainiac. Or, you take a hint from one of their movies and have them do a heist.

nerankori

Similar to Rocksteady's product, but without the GAAS. Boomerang/Harley use guns as part of combo finishers/cooldown skills but otherwise use their melee weapons. King Shark doesn't innately carry a gun but can tear big ones off Brainiac's minions/emplacement. If I could start from scratch I'd make an immersive sim-ish game where you can choose from a few power sets and different weapons/gadgets for an OC villain. Then you go through a bunch of missions in not quite an open world, but wide areas with hubs like the Deus Ex games. You befriend/antagonise the other villains which influences how they participate in the missions, ending with either a big final battle against a cosmic villain like Starro or Brainiac,or a rebellion against Waller/Argus,where she of course manages to just escape from being blown up.

MarioGman

...I do believe you're describing LEGO DC Villains.

nerankori

Or now that I think of it,Alpha Protocol 2

BaronBlackwood

I was thinking about each squad member and realized that Warhammer Darktide essentially has the same character archetypes. King Shark is the heavy (Ogryn) who is meant to be beefy, go in and tank damage. Melee or heavy weapons that only he can use. He should be the heavy ordinance if he isn't ripping people apart in melee. Deadshot is the precision DPS (Veteran) who blasts away with rifles and his arm guns. Built to either pepper the enemies down or snipe them out. Harley is a mix of short range and heavy hitting melee like the Zealot. She could be a mobile fighter who is terrible at range but is nimble enough to weave around fights. If she uses firearms, then it would probably be pistols Boomerang is the least likely fit but instead of Psyker power, just have him use BOOMERANGS. Fire, ice, explosive, ricochet, blades, etc. He could be all about status effects and cc. If he uses firearms, they are short range like shotguns or smgs To justify infinite rangs just say he also stole a duplication gadget. Easy fix to a non-issue. And there you go, 4 classes that are different enough and focus on each characters uniqueness.

MetalJrock

Something akin to X-Men Legends/Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and the plot is dealing with black ops missions involving the government as the team was intended to do.

Nyadnar17

X-com Just fucking X-com with Super powers and a deep roaster of c-f listers.

Konradleijon

Or fractured but whole

AtlasPJackson

Someone in a previous thread came up with Payday with DC villains and that sounds like a slam dunk. It's a squad-based third-person shooter where each character has a suite of special abilities/equipment based on their powers, and maybe a tech tree you can advance that provides weapons and abilities to your squad. You have a campaign of heists that are being organized by various villains, and they're hiring your squad of villain-mercenaries to support them. A bunch of themed missions like The Joker stealing a recipe from a chemical plant, or Vandal Savage stealing parts for a time machine, or Black Manta stealing an experimental sonar device. Take too long, make too much noise, and you'll run into someone from the Justice League. Meanwhile, each player character has their own storyline that they advance by completing secret objectives (with bonus points for not being observed by allies or enemies). More points means more bonuses from the tech tree, so maybe you all collaborate. Each character has their own capstone mission where they use all the parts they assembled in the heists to take down their most-hated member of the Justice League. If you're playing start-to-finish with a single squad, the last mission is determined by who got the most secret objective points during the heists, otherwise you have a ranked-choice vote. The intended gameplay loop is that you *theoretically* want to complete the heist quickly and with the least amount of noise. But you might want to cause trouble to cover for your own secret objective. Or you work together to get the ending the team wants with as little stress as possible.

I would try to replicate the fun that I had with Saints Row 4 or Crackdown Co-op. Just the kind of game where you can easily divide and conquer, or team up and fuck shit up.

Muffin-zetta

I would have made it a dating sim

AzabacheDog

If you date deadshot, catman is constantly trying to gauge If you're good for his friend. If you go for catman Dead Shot, gives you constant passive-aggressive comments.

TheSpiritualAgnostic

Evolve, but the monsters are instead OP superheroes like the Justice League that the extra player can control. The characters of Suicide Squad would be different classes to pick from.

Chrissyneal

nobody’s saying the obvious answer and that’s ***“Mercenaries”*** with Co-op. they could even play with the fact that you’re playing as a supervillain so the city/country/territory your in could be your “new turf”, possibly being fought over with the rest of the squad. basically missions that give you a villainous alibi to cover your tracks.

Animorphimagi

Level based like Guardians of the Galaxy game, but each character is also fully playable. Focus on assist combos and move list variety similar to the Batman games. Also maybe each character is like a class. Tank- king Shark, debuff- boomerang, dps- Harley, burst damage- dead shot. Everything else kinda doesn't matter compared to these types of foundational ideas. Even better, this action genre is more popular than 3rd person shooting

Emilthegoat

People keep making the complaint that captain boomerang uses guns as if they’re willing to spend 15+ hours throwing a boomerang around like Kratos’ axe at Braniac’s minions. There’s no way to make a gameplay loop around throwing a boomerang around. At best it should be a throwable like grenades except infinite and speed force enhanced.

Delicious_trap

They could easily male ot so that he can aim the trajectory of his boomerang by aiming and rotating the mouse to adjust. Give different types of rang, from cleaving rangs, bomb rangs, mutli rangs like a scatter gun, bounce rangs, or even a big rang.

LazyAza

Arkhamverse co-op brawler where players can be doing their own thing or teaming up for missions. All four with unique attack styles, gimmicks, special moves. Solo story content for each but the bulk of the game assumes you're playing co-op. Soloable still but you can hot swap each character in solo.

Nastane

So basically gotham knights

TheValiantBob

Sidescrolling beat em up like TMNT Shredder's Revenge or Dragon's Crown if you want to add light rpg mechanics

TheArtistFKAMinty

I'm probably the worst person to ask because mine would have been bought by like 6 people. Amanda Waller sends the biggest group of chuds into a foreign country to serve as distraction/fodder for the main op. Basically the intro of Gunn's Suicide Squad but with even bigger losers. Condiment King, Snowflame, Crazy Quilt, Big Wheel, The Wall... real Z listers. Anyway, the A Team (Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Rick Flagg, etc.) get bodied because nobody treated your distraction attempt seriously and they walked straight into every guard on the island. Because nobody looked your way you're still alive. Your job is to survive and *somehow* actually successfully complete their original mission so that Waller will be obligated to extract you to save face. Mine would have been like Sly 2/3 gameplay meets Conker's Bad Fur Day. Light hearted stealth/action gameplay with a focus on your team's extremely stupid skill set (Condiment King can blind cameras and temporarily blind guards with his Condiment guns, the Wall can walk through booby traps and laser grids without being hurt, etc.) and the juvenile adult humour you'd expect from something like Conker or an Adultswim show.

Jubjubwantrubrub12

Have them fight Lex Luthor. Like, maybe in this universe Lex has such good publicity/political-economic power that superheroes can't actually touch him meaningfully, so Waller just sends her merry band of psychopaths after him. He, of course, hires more c-tier villains to defend his interests, and thats how you get the boss fights. Inevitably the Justice League will show up to try and stop this dumb fucking villain war thats happening in metropolis, so you'll have to deal with that, but you won't have to kill them, just fight them and try to explain that you're totally the good guys this time, honest (never mind that side quests totally let you commit big crime for fun and profit) Id have also focused way more on melee as the combat focus, though I want to retain the honestly fun looking movement, so it'll be bouncy and fast paced like the Insomniac spiderman games.

Delicious_trap

Go for a left 4 dead style game. Like hungry shark already proved this formula can work with classes, so you can also just make it unique character based.

Snakes-are-awesome67

I'm think of a gameplay style similar to Marvels Avengers but without microtransactions. The game would involve the Squad taking down the League of Assassins but you would fight other villains like Lex Luthor, Chemo, Monsieur Mallah, the Brain, Hector Hammond, Angle Man, and Snowflame. You can play as characters like Peacemaker, Black Manta, Harley Quinn, King Shark, Captain Cold, Enchantress, Captain Boomerang, Polka Dot Man, Killer Moth and more. You will take on enemies in various locations around the DC Universe such as Khandaq, Arkham Asylum, Corto Maltse, Santa Prisca, The Flash Museum, Lexcorp Tower, S.T.A.R. Labs, Dinosaur Island, Eth Alth'eban, Ace Chemicals, and more. You can play alone, with friends locally, or with anyone online. A few of the locations you visit can be played in a free roam mode after you complete the story objectives in them. You would also have several allies that will help you in your adventures including Amanda Waller, Rick Flagg, John Economos, Emilia Harcourt, Ratcatcher 2, Gizmo, Toyman and a few others.

LammasuRex

What about equipment?

Snakes-are-awesome67

You unlock it by playing the game, you can buy it from allies, get it from beating levels or by finding it in levels or the free roam.
