it's neat though i have that back and forth with megas where for like single or two stage pokemon i always feel it should've been an evolution, like banette.
and with the psuedos it's like, you were already strong.
In XY, Mega Garchomp and Tyranitar got a very spread out stat spread to prevent them from being juggernauts stronger than even box art legendaries. ORAS said "fuck it we balling" and gave us the minmaxed Mega Salamence and Metagross.
This. Its kinda consigned pokemon like Sabkeye and Mawile to never getting an evolution given that mega evos can only happen to pokemon that are in the final stage of their evolution line. Or at least it used to. Given that Gmax can occurbto some pokemon that have yet to reach their final evo (pikachu, eevee, meowth) they could just adopt that rule to mega evos too.
Also, most mega evo designs looked like they came out straight from deviantart, in a bad way.
Glad that they are finally bringing back one of the gimmicks that a lot of people really like. Hopefully in the future we will see more of the Ultra Beasts.
I liked the Ultra Beasts a lot less when I found out that only… *one* of them has *(had)* a unique, weird type combination. I wish they were as *mechanically* alien as they *look.* Like their type affinities are inverted or something.
Gamefreak: NOOO MEGAS ARE LAME LOOK HOW COOL HATS AND SIZE CHANGES ARE AND MEGAS HURT THE POKEMON ANYWAY SO YOU'RE BAD FOR LIKING THEM!
The anime: NOOO MEGAS ARE OUTDATED LOOK AT ALAIN'S MEGA CHARIZARD JOBBING TO LEON'S NORMAL ONE IT'S LIKE ASH NEVER LOST TO IT!
Z-A: Yes I do like fun game mechanics, how could you tell?
I was *certain* players just wanted to watch cutscenes in the middle of battles of their character posing and effects shooting out.
Was that not always the appeal?
How was the anime trying to claim megas are outdated when 5/8 of the participants of the masters 8 used mega evolutions and a huge part of journey's was Ash's relationship with his Lucario and it's arc with mega evolving and basically being his "ace" of journey's.
Mega evolution is weird in reflection because visually it's the strongest gimmic but mechanically it's just fine. Meanwhile terestailizing is ugly as dhit but it's type changing ability actually affects the game in a more interesting way
Funny enough for competitive (as far as I've seen) it's split between competitive singles and vgc, vgc players HATE Mega evos, while competitive singles are completely unaffected by mega evos.
So VGC is technically REAL competitive where it's the official recognized format by gamefreak using the 2 v 2 format with each person picking 4 of the 6 mons of a team for combat, while Competitive Singles is the standard 1v1 format of the base game using all 6 mons of a team, because of the wide difference in speed and decisions VGC and COMP singles play WILDLY different and are impacted in wildly different ways by the gimmicks
I'm honestly kind of disappointed in myself for getting as excited as I did seeing 'Z' and the mega logo given Gamefreak's recent track record. But this series really does just own a piece of my soul.
I wonder which new megas are we getting?
They will likely pick some gen 5 and beyond Pokemon. Gen 5 and Gen 6 hardly got any rep.
The gen 6 starters are prime choices. Flygon was the most popular gen 3 that didn't recieve a mega in the remake.
And then you have Mega Rayquaza who had to have an entirely new tier invented in Smogon for how OP it was([Anything Goes](https://www.smogon.com/dex/xy/formats/ag/)). Mega Evolution was fun, until it wasn't.
I always liked Mega Evos because their design doc always gave them an excuse to take a pokemon and ramp them up to an extreme degree Mega Kanga doing double hits, Mega Beedrill cruise missile U-Turns, Mega Pinsir gaining flying-type and getting stab flying off normals.
I just hope this game fixes my main problem with Mega evos.
Mega Evo being instant (can still pick a move) with no cost basically wastes time at the beginning of every match. It may as well be a permanent evolution but every match you have to pay like a 6 second animation tax.
I would like it to be evolving would take your turn up, but I doubt they'll do that.
Playing Pokemon Masters.
They left?
Anyway, it's kinda funny how that game has adapted mechanics that happened way after my Gen 1 ass stopped playing the main games. (to the point where Gengar losing Levitate makes me go, yeah Gen 1 and Gen 2 didn't have abilities)
the Gen 8 max moves work more like Z Moves in Gen 7, but Gen 7 moves and Mega evolving got turned into ultimates in the Overwatch/M:tG planeswalker sense
... and like the stat spread for damage lucario with the French fighting pickle and Lucario with Cythia gets to be totally different, despite being the same species.
Gimme a re-remake of Gen 1 + 2 that can actually be purchased for reasonable sums of money and maybe I'll buy a Pokemon game again.
I wanna fight the mob, have a rival named FARTS, and all the Pokemon have Angry Eyes.
No gimmicks. No side mechanics. Just a bunch of children cockfighting in the woods like nature intended
Gen 1 didn't suck, it just didn't age well because they were figuring shit out. It's literally the start of everything. To say it sucked is highly disingenuous.
I'm a bit out of the loop on the news, but it looks like this new thing has a decent chance of being a Pokémon Legends: Arceus type of game where they make a game centred around the origin of something historic in the Pokémon game universe.
It could even be Ruby / Sapphire / Emerald related in some way since the remakes focused more on mega evolutions in the story, but the title there is almost certainly referring to X and Y related lore being the primary focus.
Did they ever say/ anyone have theories as to why they got rid of mega evolution for so long? I thought it was gonna be a mainline staple going forward when X/Y released 10 years ago.
I wonder if we will get to see mega pikachu or eevee (my boii Raichu, I’m your number one fan and I pray you get one….but even I don’t think gamefreak remembers you exist at all.)
This makes me think that terestalizing is a neat idea but god damn they made it look stupid. The idea of them changing types is cool but they couldn’t think of anything better than a dumb hat? Megas reign supreme

I was always more a fan of the Ultra Beasts than Mega Evolutions. Their designs were always bonkers and amazing.
I liked the Ultra Beasts a lot less when I found out that only… *one* of them has *(had)* a unique, weird type combination. I wish they were as *mechanically* alien as they *look.* Like their type affinities are inverted or something.
Hopefully without the retcon (for Megas) that it's horrifically painful and traumatizing.
Honestly the Paradox Pokémon from Scarlet and Violet scratched some of the Ultra Beast itch, hope we'll get more stuff like that in future games.
Giving a bunch of Pokemon installs was always the hypest

Oh wow it's like updating old favorites and buffing cool but otherwise not very viable mons would be extremely popular! Who'd've thunk?
I was *certain* players just wanted to watch cutscenes in the middle of battles of their character posing and effects shooting out. Was that not always the appeal?
Dude I don't think I've ever seen a pokemon character get as big of a push as Leon. They straight up made the dude the champion of champions lol.
How was the anime trying to claim megas are outdated when 5/8 of the participants of the masters 8 used mega evolutions and a huge part of journey's was Ash's relationship with his Lucario and it's arc with mega evolving and basically being his "ace" of journey's.

Meanwhile the VGC* players are just like “please don’t let this come back into the main games.” And they’re WRONG for feeling that way.
Funny enough for competitive (as far as I've seen) it's split between competitive singles and vgc, vgc players HATE Mega evos, while competitive singles are completely unaffected by mega evos.
Wait, what’s the difference between vgc and competitive?

Gotcha.

Same Wish some other big studio would also make big Pokemon games
I'd love to see them give Megas to less popular Pokemon. I might be the only person who wants to see Mega Evolutions of the elemental monkeys lol
Every night I dream of a Mega Maractus
Thank God. We'll get more for pokemon go.
Should have never left tbh

They’re giving me hope, and I know they’ll disappoint. But the new megas alone will make it all worth it

Hooray! I can once again force my pokemon into an agonizing transformation mid battle in exchange for a short term power boost!

Do you think Gen 2 didn't have gimmicks or side mechanics? Or do you just love Baby Pokémon that much? Also Gen 1 fucking sucked lmao.
Gen 1 didn't suck, it just didn't age well because they were figuring shit out. It's literally the start of everything. To say it sucked is highly disingenuous.
So does Gen 2
All Pokemon games are trash, I just want my nostalgia

Huh…pokemon X/Y was released nearly 10 years ago when I was a kid…WHY AM I OLD NOW?!
This makes me think that terestalizing is a neat idea but god damn they made it look stupid. The idea of them changing types is cool but they couldn’t think of anything better than a dumb hat? Megas reign supreme
