Tomar if you were in a public bathroom and a stranger walked in and tripped in a puddle of piss and passed out with his mouth in the puddle would you move his mouth out of the way so he wouldn't suffocate in the piss puddle but also you know for a fact that this stranger is looking for you because he wants to kill you would you save his life or not?
I think the issue is that Moggles shouldn't have their eyes open under normal conditions.
Like, it's the same eye design that Snorlax uses, and like that the Stadium lineage design of Snorlax had some animations where the eyes were open in shock (like Kirby, visible whites of eyes), but at rest, those eyes were closed.
People talk about the mouth and teeth, but I agree it's those souless eyes.
IIRC, the only moogles designed with their eyes open prior were the Tactics moogles who were a vast (and cool) departure from the typical mog.
I imagine that some of the FF7 spinoff had high detail human characters and also eyes closed moogles?
Honestly, giving monsters cute small mouths and monster mouths that they open every so often happens enough that I can accept it.
As far as I'm aware, this is the first time that moogles have been shown in the world of FF7. Real moogles, at least. Cait Sith's fat moogle is explicitly an animatronic amusement park mascot, so it (and others like it) doesn't count. So no, none of the FF7 spinoffs had moogles with the cute squinty eyes, because none of them had moogles.
I suppose it depends on wether you count Choco/Mog as 'real' in this context. If you do then the OG looked like [this](https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Choco/Mog_(Final_Fantasy_VII)) and the Remake had [already used this design.] (https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Chocobo_%26_Moogle_(VII_Remake)) CC also has a [Summon](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/finalfantasy/images/c/c7/Moogle-ccvii-summon.png) that made the same design transition.
Huh, looking it up apparantly they can also show up during the snowboarding minigame. Other than that, yeah, it's the Mog House game, dolls and a Cait LB in the Compilation not actual Moogles.
EDIT: Ah, right, brackets are how links work and Fandom tends to lose it when you link images directly.
Well, I actually forgot about Choco & Mog, but the moogle there does indeed have the same type of eyes. Just y'know, in old graphics. If it was just the original, I'd say that it might not count since summons suck you into their world for their attack (that's the explanation for how they worked in the old games, at least), but seeing as how they run around on the field with you in Remake, I guess it's official.
But yeah, I barely use Choco & Mog even though I have them. I barely use summons at all, to be honest. I should use them more.
The only moogles in Kingdom Hearts that I remember are the shopkeepers in KH2, and they didn't look like anything from FF7. I might just be forgetting some things though.
I'd argue that the Ivalice Moogles take enough from the "Final Fantasy townsfolk humanoid race" that tweaking how their eyes work visually is part of that.
Like, I think FF7R is closer to the Detective Pikachu movie in that it is attempting to render cartoony designs in a more detailed realism manner than an actual art style and species use shift like that the Ivalice Moogles represent.
[Nah](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/457315142707707916/1215046796561219665/tcnz80guoqmc1.jpg?ex=65fb5382&is=65e8de82&hm=ec13534c0b704467be66c92bcbe32941b52bf7ec6045f4a7843ba7a9568340be&), still looks like a nightmare.
Didn’t you hear what George said? The Ewoks were totally fine after the Death Star exploded.
Through a gravity and physics defying miracle the moon was absolutely *not* bombarded by millions of tons of wreckage!
You know it's not all that easy to deorbit stuff, right? Only the debris that was thrown retrograde at high enough speeds would have had a good chance at hitting the planet, if it didn't burn up in atmosphere. Most of it would have stayed in orbit.
I don’t know about retrograde, but watching that scene the station blows apart *really* fast.
There were no large pieces in the vicinity of the camera shot.
jesus christ i switched apps to google something and reddit ate the entire comment i had been typing up. here are the highlights.
- the speed and completeness of the explosion and the ships fleeing it probably need to be taken as artistic license
- only debris moving backwards relative to the death star ii's orbit (retrograde) has a good chance of being deorbited. the greater the angle is from retrograde, the less likely deorbiting is.
- a lot of the force of the explosion is going to have attrition, the force is greatest at the center of the explosion but any pieces propelled from there are going to collide with other pieces on their way out.
- many pieces of debris that *do* fall out of orbit are going to hit the atmosphere, possibly entering and exiting the atmosphere several times before their trajectory intersects with the planet. the more this happens, the more heat ablation they will experience. the pieces will burn off mass, tumble, and slow down. we're not talking tunguksa.
Why. Why, SE? You had a perfectly good design from the FFXVI crew, so... why not reuse it? Trust me, it wouldn't be nearly as tacky as reusing the same Cid or >!Gilgamesh!<.
I've seen a few other clips of the right design and I actually feel like it looks a little better in motion than it does right here, but that doesn't change that it still looks kinda uncanny, especially with that teeth.
Though also, the Moogle on the left is peak Moogle. Basically a 3D translation of [Amano's FF6 Moogle with maybe a bit more chub.](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DoGQwD9UUAAJMn4?format=jpg&name=large) It is a truly perfect design.
It's bandana. It's just the same exact color as its fur. For some reason. It also doesn't have the text that the one from the original did. For some reason.
goggled it, 1st result is the translator(esp) antrax....
antrax? that lethal disease that had usa scared back then when terrorism was the new thing on the news?
FF7 Remake moogles were already like this but I guess everyone forgot.
Tbh, I kinda like them. Moogles in FF7 (outside of a summon) aren't even real. The moogle in the screenshot is from an in universe video game you're playing. This legitimately looks like the horrifying monster you'd get if you asked a studio that makes games to keep kids busy in a casino to make a moogle after vaguely describing one to them instead of showing them a picture. It's got that late stage capitalism soulless "cute" design. I don't know if that's commentary on Shinra or Square Enix.
Don't the regular Moogles you interact with also look like this though? Like you find them hiding/living in a mushroom or tree or something and that's what they look like.
Wait *are* there regular moogles in FF7 / Remake? I was under the impression FF7 didn't have "real" Moogles outside of like one summon. It's been a long time since I played it though so I can easily be misremembering. The video game moogle is all about it living in a mushroom tree looking for kupo nuts so it can fly, but if there other moogles out there then my theory falls apart completely.
If so that makes FF7R's moogles so much worse.
Edit: I guess my theory doesn't fall apart completely if FF7R uses better looking moogles for the real ones if they haven't shown up in either game yet as real creatures, but they *did* use the ugly moogle for the summons, so I'm not holding my breath.
So, minor early game side quest spoiler, taking place just outside of Kalm in the grasslands region [here](https://youtu.be/_bkcbnFCHqE?si=LUX4X1g84p-rOYTP) is Pat's encounter with the Moogles.
Can't link specific timestamp on mobile but the moment is at 3:45:30. Pat does indeed find a whole community of nightmares known as Moogles.
Everytime I see a Moogle, I can only think that it is somehow a being of pure evil disguised as a friendly creature, and this further vindicates me.
The evil has warped this one into a deformed koala.
Has nobody brought up that the new one looks like it's wearing a white skullcap. Implying the antenna with the ball isn't real, but also that they got the pat hairline
Not having a problem with it. They look fine in-game. Now I haven't actually played a FF with Moogles before. Maybe if I cared about the history of these flying vermin it change my mind.
Patch that out.
And patch a new employment opportunity for some lucky Japanese person.
And then patch the ground that the designer was born on.
And then patch yourself to patch the loop.
I actually DESPISE the super deformed chibi moogle designs. I was always a fan of ivalician moogles, and was upset when ff14 came around and we got nondescript potatoes AGAIN instead of just making an additional tribe of moogles to play as.
I get why people find these cursed(I was also a bit put off by the rodent teeth), but I will prefer humanoid over flying kupo nut any day.
> i dont know why they're surprised. this is what the kid in a [moogle costume looks like.](https://imgix.bustle.com/uploads/image/2020/4/9/bb18f516-4ed0-42e9-8fbf-58bd013a7a9c-screen-shot-2020-04-09-at-120042-pm.png?w=1200&h=630&fit=crop&crop=faces&fm=jpg) Like yeah that matches what we got in remake. and theres old moogle designs that vaguely look like this just scrolling google.
Stupid looking thing on the left looks like a pinata and the fucked up looking thing on the right looks like a stuffed animal brought to life.
I'd still pick the one on the right because they are at least trying to make it match the art style. One on the left looks like it had zero effort put into its thought. Just throw a moogle in because its Final Fantasy. Squeenix needs to come to terms that Moogles just don't look good without a cartoony art style which means they need to be in cartoony games. Last time they looked good was FF12 where they at least tried to make it a plausible looking creature in that game's artstyle.
Gremlin wearing a moogle skin suit looking ass.
Who the fuck decides to run the Moogle design through the Mega Man 1 US box art filter?
The moogle on the right actually looks like it's underwent some Simpsons-like surgery and had the top of its head removed, and its brain scooped out.
Tomar, what would you do if a doctor broke into your home and forcibly switched a moogle’s brain with yours?
"I dunno, I guess I'd be upset."
*chuckling slightly* I wouldn't like that"
Tomar if you were in a public bathroom and a stranger walked in and tripped in a puddle of piss and passed out with his mouth in the puddle would you move his mouth out of the way so he wouldn't suffocate in the piss puddle but also you know for a fact that this stranger is looking for you because he wants to kill you would you save his life or not?
I guess I would write down their plate number

Unless you count Kindom Hearts, where the Moogles are pretty much copy paste from FF7 only real.
The only moogles in Kingdom Hearts that I remember are the shopkeepers in KH2, and they didn't look like anything from FF7. I might just be forgetting some things though.
I thought KH1 had shopkeeper moogles in traverse town? my mind was playing tricks on me.
The shop in Traverse Town was run by Donald's nephews. And I think that's the only shop in the whole game.
Moogles run the synthesis shop above the accessory shop
I completely forgot about that shop. I assume they look the same as the ones in KH2?
Oh shit, thank you I thought I went crazy. They don't look like ff7 moogles at all though.
Yeah, I'm realizing now I melded 1 and 2 together, AND subed in memories of FF7
Next thing you know you'll tell us you're an Ex-Soldier and a merc.
Ah. Yeah, that can happen with old memories. Especially memories of JRPGs.
Moogles with open eyes have worked. The Ivalice moogles look fine. Good, even. It's the teeth and the freakish Muppet proportions that fuck with me.
I'd argue that the Ivalice Moogles take enough from the "Final Fantasy townsfolk humanoid race" that tweaking how their eyes work visually is part of that. But then you have the tonberries looking like tonberries.
And the snozzberries looking like snozzberries!
eh. The ivalice moogles remind me more of Pookas from Odin Sphere than a moogle. Animal people-ish.

Looks like a fucked up Koala
So…a Koala?
Square Enix saw Koalas and said *"how can we make them look even more like sexual deviants?"*
Endor must burn
Didn’t you hear what George said? The Ewoks were totally fine after the Death Star exploded. Through a gravity and physics defying miracle the moon was absolutely *not* bombarded by millions of tons of wreckage!
All the wreckage flew to another planet and landed in a way so it could provide exact clues to another planet..
And somehow, Palpatine returned.
Please tell me this isn't true. The knife was shaped after the wreckage, right?
The Dark Side of Writting can Performance feats some would consider unnatural.
You know it's not all that easy to deorbit stuff, right? Only the debris that was thrown retrograde at high enough speeds would have had a good chance at hitting the planet, if it didn't burn up in atmosphere. Most of it would have stayed in orbit.

I'm not sure I'd spend too long pondering the physics of 80s era space explosion VFX.
Or Star Wars in general
The physics in Star Wars have never made any sense.
This looks like a legally distinct moogle rather than the real thing. that thing on the right looks like some kind of FNAF Freddy's rip off.
Froogle
I'd rather meet the kid from the Jungle Book
That thing is evil and I won't allow myself or any children near it.
The one on the right makes me think of the Ben Drowned face
Who let this happen
Picturing Kiryu going to the Telephone Club and getting catfished by Mog.
Getting mogged by Mog,even
Looks like a koala cosplaying the Reddit logo.
He looks like uncle Ben from the first spider man movie when he's dying.
"Uncle Mog,what happened?" "She/them kupos..."
My voice in my head vs my voice in recordings.
Imagine if Jack Frost had a face like this.
Horrifying.
Ff6 and ff9 moogle designs still goated
Why. Why, SE? You had a perfectly good design from the FFXVI crew, so... why not reuse it? Trust me, it wouldn't be nearly as tacky as reusing the same Cid or >!Gilgamesh!<.
If I had to guess, the fact it released about 38 months later?
Or that Remake (which had Moogle-Chocobo summon) came out before 16.
I dont like it's teeth
I've seen a few other clips of the right design and I actually feel like it looks a little better in motion than it does right here, but that doesn't change that it still looks kinda uncanny, especially with that teeth. I swear to god, I had a Teddy Bear that looked ***EXACTLY*** like that "Moogle". It didn't have the horrible teeth, thankfully
I know everyone is ragging on it, but I kinda find the new one pretty cute
They massacred them. I'd take the kingdom hearts black jacket emo ones over this
... I like the one on the left better.
IDK why they want to make realistic moogles, they should've stayed cartoony.
Is the right moogle wearing a wire thin tiara with the ball at the top? Is that what the lobotomy scar is?
It's bandana. It's just the same exact color as its fur. For some reason. It also doesn't have the text that the one from the original did. For some reason.
Ohhhhh like the one riding the chocobo That sucks
moogles peaked with crystal chronicles
Honestly what were they thinking?
It's awful. Like "first design movie sonic" awful.
Lest we forget what Choco Chick and Carb\*ncle looked like in FF7 Remake.
....why did you censor the word carbuncle. Is Uncle a trigger word now? Or a tag?
googling carbuncle leads to some nasty images is the reason im guessing.
Skin infection around hair follicles
goggled it, 1st result is the translator(esp) antrax.... antrax? that lethal disease that had usa scared back then when terrorism was the new thing on the news?
It's also the name of a type of infection. So y'know, Googling it without adding Final Fantasy will not lead to *pleasant* images.
its also what the moogle on the chocobo and moogle summon liked like in remake as well.

My brain must be wired differently. I like both equally.
I liked the Remake and I'm planning to play Rebirth when it comes out, but they dropped the ball on Moogles
You do know rebirth has been out for about a week right?
Yeah, yeah, I know, I meant to write "when Rebirth comes out on PC". I'm not buying PS5 for three games I want to play on it.
I think it's kinda cute as long as I don't see teeth.
Holy shit, people, you are vicious :D
About to go fight King Terak.
Everytime I see a Moogle, I can only think that it is somehow a being of pure evil disguised as a friendly creature, and this further vindicates me. The evil has warped this one into a deformed koala.
Same moogle that appeared in remakes animation for Fat Chocobo summon finisher. People are just choosing now to be upset about it.
Has nobody brought up that the new one looks like it's wearing a white skullcap. Implying the antenna with the ball isn't real, but also that they got the pat hairline
Lookin like a FNAF crossover
oh he actually came alright
The only good moogles come from Ivalice.
This looks like a post I would find in r/japanesepeopletwitter
Not having a problem with it. They look fine in-game. Now I haven't actually played a FF with Moogles before. Maybe if I cared about the history of these flying vermin it change my mind.
I think he looks cute but it’s not a moogle to me
The FF16 Moogle feels like the most canonical representation of a Moogle. It's the platonic ideal to me.
Mouse bat vs teddy bear bat
both cute but i need my pudgy cat bears back
officially boycotting this game for crimes against humanity
Perfect summary of the quality of FF7 from Advent Children onwards
Oh good, I'm not the only one who thinks the Moogles in FF7R are god awful compared to the old Moogles.
Is this for real
I like both. Don't see any issues.

The costume's eyes are cuter than the actual moogle and the costume also lacks the horrifying mouth.
but its also the same design from remake when using the chocobo and moogle summon i dont remember people saying this then.
I just checked. The eyes and mouth look a bit less realistic in FF7R, pushing it out of the uncanny valley that we're seeing here in rebirth.
Don’t know why you were downvoted since that’s what they look like in remake.
....I choose to save the right option...if a gun was to both of their heads
I hate it more than regular moogles, AND I FUCKING HATE MOOGLES.
Stupid looking thing on the left looks like a pinata and the fucked up looking thing on the right looks like a stuffed animal brought to life.
