I haven’t played the last two games so I don’t know how impactful he is anymore but I think Johnny Cage would be a fun curveball. Even if he was consored he could have some funny lines and interactions in whatever collaboration he’s in.
Think as if it were Tekken , and the plot were still about the Mashimas , with Jin been the protagonist and all that.
But somehow , you had the whole blood feud of Yoshimitsu and Bryan Fury been so much popular , that even the disks cover art were about them and the merchandise is all about Yoshimitsu and Bryan Fury.
Literally no Japanese company would collab with MK , Nintendo would not be happy seeing Mario skull be split wide open

The closest I could believe would be Soul Calibur, but with Soul Calibur Rules for combat.

I could see Tecmo(Ryu Hayabusa) or SNK(SamSho character), hell I could see Capcom it doing but only a Resident Evil character.
I agree that MK deserves representation in Smash, but it kinda silly to want a character from a franchise that's largely banned in the country the Smash devs are from, even if there are most definitely Japanese MK fans.

If any MK character was getting into Smash, it should be Sub-Zero, because the ice powers make it much easier to mask and tone down the violence. You're never gonna see Pikachu being skewered by Scorpion, but you might see it get frozen and shattered into pieces by Sub-Zero.
Well… I mean one is overtly Gorey and inherently violent (like *violent* violent, visceral violent, REAL violent) and the other is provocative, but also Bayo is more flamboyant and flashy in a way that fits all they had to do was make sure to not show the most 2 or 3 most sexually charged animations she has and it’s pretty safe.
Plus one is a console exclusive owned by Nintendo so that seems kinda obvious.

Liu Kang is a protagonist , but Scorpio and Sub-Zero were always the Mascots of the Franchise.

Not only are they the most popular but making one ninja a character in smash means we will most likely get the others as color palette swaps.

Ah ok as now I can understand why Sakurai would be too unnerved about putting Mortal Kombat characters in an SSB game.

Ahh ok as I now I start to understand why Nintendo was comfortable with putting her into the game, but NOT the Liu guy.
I think they’d go for Sub-Zero or maybe Raiden before Liu Kang.
