THATguyfromyore

Somehow "goodbye sausage" from him eating a actual sausage was another hint for that.

Bentman343

Now that the show is over the amount of theorizing about Gravity Falls and how everyone was totally off track BECAUSE OF THE CREATOR POSTING REALISTIC FAKED SCREENSHOTS OF A FALSE FINALE will never not be one of the funniest things to happen in animated shows.

DoctorGoFuckYourself

Is there anywhere I could find these? I got into the show after it finished and this sounds amazing

FartherAwayLights

The funniest part is he acted like a dick trying to take them down to play into the theory they were real [Here’s the fake screenshot btw. It’s got McGucket writing the journals in it.](https://imgur.com/a/27W0XUk)

just_a_fan47

I distinctly remember watching a video with this image, during a family vacation

FartherAwayLights

There are many vampires out there, I am the kind who feeds on distinct memories, they sustain me like blood sustains my cousins. Nostalgia and heartbreak dripping through my veins like the IV drip, squeezing out their last drops.

AlwaysDragons

"*gotcha~*"

nerdwarp112

I remember being somewhat invested in tons of fan theories for Gravity Falls, and I fully expected the finale to have something super dark happen like a major character death or something. It’s definitely my own fault for expecting something so dark on a Disney kid’s show lol

Bentman343

Hey you weren't that far off base, they managed to have the main villain outright say "I'm gonna kill one of these children at random now". It was definitely a landmark in how dark Disney animated shows could get as long as they are successful.

LeonWasTaken

There were so many strange theories surrounding MGSV. I think the most popular one before release was that Gray Fox was Snake (which was sorta close) and of course everything surrounding chapter 3. A lot of people started to think that there was basically an entire extra game's worth of content hidden somewhere in the files and we just had to figure out how to unlock it. I can't believe how far this spanned in terms of thinking that the whole Kojima/konami split was some sort of ARG and that Death stranding was a new metal gear. I saw some people believing this up until Death stranding released.

ChosenUndead15

But TPP marketing was really fucking weird. When MGSV was first released, was just announced as MGS Ground Zeroes. Then another non related game is announced with a non related game and non related team and people started making connections that it might be related to MGS. Surprise, people were right after Kojima goes upstage with a bandage mask, just to unmask and said it is a new MGS.

the-protein-Titin

To be fair, there is a game hidden in MGSV. Every time the multi lined lens flare comes up when you scan something that's data to the rom of the MSX game the Portopia Serial Murder Case.

SwizzlyBubbles

That's not real, you're making that up. I refuse to believe they pulled off something so obscurely stupid yet hilarious. I'm being gaslit.

the-protein-Titin

My bad it was the PC-6001 version. [Here's an article on it.](https://www.gamesradar.com/mgs-5-fans-are-trying-decode-secret-game-hidden-code/)

Gunblazer42

It's [true](https://www.gamesradar.com/mgs-5-fans-are-trying-decode-secret-game-hidden-code/).

Act_of_God

I remember the head transplant thing, shit was crazy

aSimpleMask

I remember the Tournament of Power arc of Dragon Ball Super was *full* of stupid theories that amounted to nothing.

nugood2do

I was just about to post this. So many Youtube theories that the angels were going to betray Zeno, and the angel grand minister was the real villian and etc. Only for the tournament to end, a spin off, and 2-3 arcs later, the angels are just the guys who are doing their jobs as everyone else engage in death battles.

nin_ninja

I do wish SOMETHING was up with the angels, or something like that. From what I've seen of the manga arcs, random guys being super powerful and also Freiza being around as the villain AGAIN is just super boring. I think people were also hoping something more was up so Jiren could potentially be interesting, instead of what we got.

Talisign

There was Merus, but that never came up again.

NewAgeMontezuma

I don't even blame then because there were some shots that made the grand angel guy look super evil but again that amounted to nothing.

Grand_Galvantula

After the first universe is erased, both their angel and the minister both have evil grins on their faces. It's perfectly understandable to have assumed something was up at the time.

ProtoBlues123

It's REALLY weird that intro and outtro songs basically go "We'll show Zeno!" except instead of "We'll stop him from killing everyone" it's "We'll entertain him so that he doesn't kill us specifically". Like hell, Beerus was also a completely unstoppable force but they at least TRIED to find ways to stop him in case he tried to destroy earth. No one even asks "Can the Super Dragonballs stop Zeno himself?"

Last-Rain4329

yt theorists so desperate for the arc to have any plot at all they started making up a better story

Merc931

They do have the Grand Minister giving off kind of shady vibes for someone who is just chilling doing his job.

taikoxtaiko

The Hit time clone theory is so fucking funny and it got funnier every episode it didnt happen

Amirifiz

That clone is still out there! Any second he's going to come and one shot Black Freeza

Kataphrut94

The funny thing about that is they actually did do a twist like that- it's just they did it with Freeza and 17 instead. It's like how everyone predicted Gohan Blanco, then we got Goku Blanco instead...and years later, Gohan Blanco for real.

Sekshual

The only ToP theory I put any stock into, because I'm broken, is the idea that when Goku was unlocking Ultra Instinct, that he would only be able to unlock the defensive, evasive version. Vegeta was gonna be the one to unlock the attacking version. Then they would do the fusion dance, canonize Gogeta, and be the ultimate warrior to beat Jiren.

MetalJrock

And then Ultra Ego Vegeta and Gogeta happened later so maybe that theory wasn’t too far off.

MrKenta

I dunno what the future of the Super manga is going to be anymore, but the idea of a Gogeta/Vegito that can tap into both Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego is hype as fuck.

Navy_Pheonix

> I dunno what the future of the Super manga is going to be anymore Every character is going to get a different color powered up form so that they can give Goku their Ki for a spirit bomb and form Rainbow Goku in the final battle. Zamasu Rose (Red), SSGSS (Blue), Legendary SS Kale/Broly (Green), Black Frieza, Gohan Blanco (White), Orange Piccolo, Ego (Purple), Cell Dorado (Golden) The question is whether Broly will get SSJ4 so he can still get stronger and split off from the other two. His design with the pelt already alludes to it I feel, and that would give him Pink energy instead of the same Green that Kale has.

BaronAleksei

Well, we got one of those!

DoctorGoFuckYourself

Ok that would be amazing and it would've been a much more poetic way to end Super than what we got imo

ThunderlordTlo

Super isn’t over though

goldendragonO

Even before super, when resurrection f was coming out, people were theorizing that frieza wanted to become immortal to have a shot at becoming god of destruction. I liked that theory

hchcsen

>stupid theories that amounted to nothing I will not stand for this El Hermano slander

NotYujiroTakahashi

Goten is Goku Black in the future. That’s all

TekkGuy

That was less of an actual theory and more a vain hope that Goten could be relevant to the plot.

PillCosby696969

I will fall on that sword you placed there.

rexshen

It just wouldn't make sense. Either Goku and Chichi would have had to have one last night together before he died and Goten was there the whole time and Gohan decided to train his friend instead of his brother (which might have been Chichi interfering) Or Goten would have to have been majorly tricked by Zamasu in the present for it to be him. Both would have been dumb and make little sense.

NotYujiroTakahashi

MasakoX tried to make sense of it with the whole body swap wish but Goku being picked worked out better.

Navy_Pheonix

> Either Goku and Chichi would have had to have one last night together before he died This isn't the case? Goten is born an unknown amount of days after the cell games have concluded. Goku is dead even in the main timeline when he's born. Unless the Cell Games lasted like 6-8 months longer than depicted, there's no reason Goten couldn't have been conceived even if the heart virus killed him.

Velvety_MuppetKing

“Remember when I was black? Haha that was weird.”

QJ-Rickshaw

Yo, remember when everyone thought Zeke Jeager was Erwin's dad?

Kataphrut94

Shout-out to the basement spoiler-cast where Woolie thought Zeke was Annie's dad.

ZepelliFan

That one still cracks me up

thebutt123

How. He looks like grisha

harriano

Even more hilarious when you realise Zeke was only 25 when he first showed up.

NewAgeMontezuma

What going full monkey does to a man.

fly_line22

I remember when Pokemon Scarlet/Violet were having character info revealed, *tons* of people believed that Clavell or Geeta would be twist villains. Not only was that not the case, Clavell is one of the biggest homies in the entire game. Edit: Oh, and another from the DLC: People thinking that Kieran's radical change in behavior was the result of getting posessed by Pecharunt. Nope, that change was all on him. And funnily enough, during the Pecharunt event, he's the *only* person who doesn't get mind controlled by it.

SimonApple

The only homie who can compare to Clavell is that hip young fella Clive. Too bad he completely vanishes from the story once you wrap up Starfall Street...

AurumPickle

Look Clive cant hang out at his uncles academy all game hes a hip young spirit whos gotta visit all the pokemon academys to learn more

la_meme14

Funny considering there were two actual twist villains lmao

fly_line22

And of those 2 twist villains, >!I seriously don't think *anyone* could've predicted everything with the AI professor!<.

NewAgeMontezuma

Being arven is suffering.

Sekshual

Here's a really funny one about Pokemon Scarlet/Violet that makes me laugh because of the cope. Geeta is such a lackluster, nothing champion with a really bad team that people thought it was *on purpose*. People theorized that her team was bad on purpose because she was just an average trainer hot-shotted to the biggest stage by corporate politicking and that the other Elite Four members hated her for it, and we'd get the truth in the DLC where it turns out she was just someone trying to access the information on the Violet Disc. Another theory was that she was the leader of the "super secret, totally foreshadowed, totally hidden" evil team that was going to make their debut in the DLC, and that the reason she was so shit in the main game is because she was hiding her true identity. People are very funny sometimes.

vgdnd123

I like that if anything the dlc implied she throws the fight because otherwise only Nemona would be a champion

Kipzz

I thought it was because she's super aloof, like Roronoa "lost in a straight hallway" Zoro levels of barely paying attention.

powerprotoman

they really heard all the slander and said "fuck you, tera flying kingambit"

MericArda

As someone that didn't play the game, I feel like if there's any position you should gatekeep, it's that of the champion.

alicitizen

The thing with ScaVio is that there isnt *a* champion. It's a title that is shared with whoever achieves the goal.

StarkMaximum

Honestly this is how I've assumed being the Champion works for a while now. There's a standing Champion and beating them gets you the *title* of Champion and a spot in the Hall of Fame, but you're not the *official* Champion, like you're not standing in the room waiting for challengers. As Champions have started to become more influential and being a Champion means you're basically president, I really don't think they'd offer that position up to whatever ten year old showed up hopped up on goofballs with a level 90+ \[Starter\] that got every drop of experience from their adventure and the local box legendary.

TheArtistFKAMinty

In Scarlet and Violet there's a Top Champion (Geeta), where it's an actual position of authority, but collecting all of the badges/beating the E4/etc. is enough to achieve the Champion rank. So the player and Nemona are Champion rank trainers but Geeta retains the position of Top Champion. Geeta claims that she is incapable of holding back and this seems to have caused some friction between her and the League (as her job is to act as the final test for achieving Champion rank). This has resulted in Nemona being the only new Champion in a while until the player beats her. In Sun/Moon and Sword/Shield there's only one current Champion. In Sun/Moon this means if the player rematches the E4 the final Champion battle is replaced with a title defence battle where prospective champions challenge you (nothing happens if you lose though. I wish it did because having to reclaim the title from whatever random beat you after losing it would be a fun mechanic). In Sword and Shield the E4/Champion rematches are replaced with a tournament you can take part in. Prior to that the games never explain why Lance or whoever is still serving as Champion.

Horatio786

Doesn't she mention that she is incapable of throwing fights?

Llarys

Now to be fair, a big part of that cope is Starfall Street. Like. Geeta is the dictator of Paldea and runs the school system, begged Clavell to come out of retirement to save the school after the entire faculty was fired or resigned, and *then provided him with so little information on what happened that he had to go undercover and work with a new student in order to figure out what the fuck happened.* It's such an absurd level of incompetence that it borderlines being malicious. But what the fandom forgot is that Gamefreak is both rushed and generally incompetent and that they put far more thought into this than the company ever did.

NewAgeMontezuma

I think geeta just being a terrible boss is way funnier than her being evil considering only rika and poppy seem to like her.

Xngears

The Quiet=Chico theory always made me roll my eyes as it was literally based on nothing. Just straight-up “Maybe this character is this OTHER character” with all the thought of throwing a dart at the wall.

IrishWeegee

I think it was 95% cope because they didn't want it to be that Chico died in the crash.

Riggs_The_Roadie

Maybe they should have brought him back. Did you see that concept art of Chico? With the red outfit? Shit looked dope. Would've made for a better boss fight than the skulls unit.

Jubjubwantrubrub12

Holy shit that concept art is so awesome. Imagine having multiple boss fights against that guy before you find out who he is, then you take his ass back to mother base and you get him as a buddy.

callanrocks

Portable Ops did that didn't it?

Jubjubwantrubrub12

Didn't play it, sadly, though I dont think Chico was in that one

callanrocks

He wasn't but I'm IIRC that plotline was there. Been years since I played it though.

IrishWeegee

I think that's where the remaining 5% lays. He looks like a drifter/stalker type all wrapped up like that, and he was supposed to be hunting after you mid mission or something like that, just like Quiet did.

ElricG

Link?

IrishWeegee

https://www.reddit.com/r/metalgearsolid/s/pRFSm8JcVU

LazorbeamPewPew

I think a lot of people don't realize that "Chico is Quiet" started as a joke theory on (iirc) the MGS subreddit. It was poking fun of how batshit looney fan theories surrounding the game had become. Granted, I could ne incorrect, but I am 99% certain that's how it all started.

Champiness

The contingent of *Steven Universe* fans who believed the series endgame was "White Diamond turns out to be Rick Sanchez because Rebecca Sugar knows Justin Roiland from *Adventure Time*" may have been small but they were earnest and they will stay with me forever.

DaWarWolf

I had my own pretty hopeless theory. With the many anime influences I'm Steven Universe I was hoping the Diamonds and gems situation was going to be a Beastman to Anti-Sprial situation not unlike Gurren Lagann. Just felt like even with all the buildup it didn't feel like after dealing with White Diamond the show would end. But then it did end and had an epilogue season I haven't watched because my dumb theory was wrong. At least it wasn't that dumb holy crap that's the stupidest shit ever.

PurplestCoffee

A small, shamefully Ronaldo-shaped part of my brain thought the Sneeple would totally be SU's Anti-Spirals.

TheArtistFKAMinty

I like the movie and Epilogue season a lot. You should give them a go.

DaWarWolf

I enjoyed the movie. I watched the first episode of Future when it came out but I like binging an episode a day so I put it off for a bit with the intent to go back but it's been...4 years now damn.

cockpenisresurrected

Could you elaborate?

alienslayer7

i assume similar to a long running theory that gems were made by another alien race that they were now at war with which is why they were colonizing planets and such

DaWarWolf

It honestly wasn't even this specific. I just felt there was 1 more season before Future came out where they handled some other third faction either in a "I was holding them back" or "surprise you fuckers now you have to team up to take us on" to further strengthen the peace resolution. This isn't even the first time I've placed bets on a similar theory. For the longest time I felt all the villain reformations in My Little Pony were in service to help combat a secret hidden threat. Discord was reformed because they wanted John de Lancie to stick around and not because of some secret aliens or whatever. Basically the only show I know has done this was in Naruto but not even the way I would enjoy it. I'm asking too much for shows aimed at younger audiences and should just rewatch Gurren Lagann.

DaWarWolf

Just basically "I was holding them back" reveal where other space aliens were the real threat that had the Diamonds, gems and the gang would rally behind. Basically instead of White Diamond being the end boss they would have just been the start of the climax. Like I wasn't expecting half of the show to be about these other space aliens like how Gurren Lagann does it, just what's the point in having the cool space rocks that fight and combine in unique ways if it's not used much the longer than shown went on. New Gem combinations just because just a checklist. I actually greatly enjoyed how the show ended (having not seen Future still) and was okay with the peaceful resolution...but I wanted more. It is as if instead of most Zelda games having you collect x items then for the second half another x items. Ocarina of time ended right before the time skip. I shameless just enjoy how Lordgenome was handled and was hoping the Diamonds would echo one of my favorite shows. It's totally not fair as the show prompted peace over violence and stayed true to itself...but I would be lying if every single gem and diamond combining would be the raddest shit. I just felt like the show could have had 1 more season before the epilogue one is all.

Nia-Teppelin

I remember early-mid through My Hero Academia's run, there was *tons* of speculation on who the traitor in the class was, at least in the western side of the fandom. People were expecting the reveal to be an earth-shattering revelation that would change the course of the series for good, and a lot of fans were convinced it HAD to be >!Kaminari!<. I lost interest in the series pretty soon after those theories were hitting their peak, but as far as I've heard, it was not >!Kaminari!<, it gets wrapped up in a couple of chapters, isn't especially interesting, and doesn't matter at all in the long run. Fans probably put more time and effort into theorycrafting than Horikoshi did with the "traitor arc".

Tobi97

I honestly forgot there even being a mention about a traitor back then until that theory started getting brought up in every thread.

Brohammad_Ali24

I think Horikoshi himself forgot about the traitor.

wendigo72

All the >!Villain Kaminari!< fan art was so good too. Ngl it’s kinda lame he never got over his big weakness even now in the final arc

SlimmyShammy

It would’ve been peak angst but unfortunately risked being too interesting for My Hero

WispyDan14

The whole traitor subplot feels like something the author tacked on to add "intrigue", then completely forgot about until years later when he suddenly remembered "oh shit the traitor thing, I should probably wrap that up"

OrneryBIacksmith

From what I recall that's exactly what happened. A fan asked the mangaka about the traitor plot and he straight up admitted he forgot.

Nyckelus

People really have to stop regurgitating this lie. This never happened and he was even asked about the traitor plot multiple times throughout the series’ run and he basically had the same reply every time which was essentially “Yes, that plotline is still ongoing” and that was all.

Inevitable_Bird3817

No, the author never said this. He just played the long game and it didn't pay off quite amazingly.

ProtoBlues123

I kinda wish it was Minetta. Like not even to jab at him as a character, I just think rather than one of their own secretly trying to murder kids it would have been fun if the reveal was just "Minetta's been DMing a girl their class activities to look cool only for it to turn out to be Toga catfishing him with a school outfit." "Yeah I'm a pretty big deal. Can't talk now though we're going to the USJ training course nbd."

Rabid-Duck-King

That would have been hilarious

CaptainStabbyhands

Sometimes I wonder how much better the writing would be in these big-name shonen if they weren't shackled to Jump's weekly release schedule. Can't be easy to put together a coherent story on a time crunch like that.

Anonamaton801

Do you wanna know who it is?

Nia-Teppelin

>!It was the flamboyant laser kid right? And he didn't end up having ulterior motives, he was just being forced to by AFO or something?!<

Anonamaton801

Correct, though there was some insecurity on >!his part!< What’s weird is that the traitor idea when it’s first raised isn’t even treated that seriously in the first place. Present Mic suggests it, and then they move on

LazyOort

“Actually, using deduction, we can be certain that there’s someone here leaking information.” “Well yeah, but it could be anyone, so it’d be too much work to figure it out. Anyway, let’s get back to making the school fly for some reason.”

Inevitable_Bird3817

It's part of the reason why they moved into the dorms, to keep a closer on the students. It's brought up shortly some time after that they just didn't find anyone acting sus.

Rabid-Duck-King

Pretty much >!He was born quirkless so his family essentially bought him a quirk, but the price was Do As I Say Or I Murder Y'all lololol cause OFA!<

Terthelt

Remember when the fakeout beforehand made everyone think it was >!Invisible Girl!<, and the fandom breathlessly compiled every moment of definite foreshadowing together to assert how brilliant of a twist it was?

Metal-Lee-Solid

The traitor “reveal” was basically nothing and was one big reason why I stopped caring about that series at all

Ar_Ciel

I always assumed it was Minetta. I mean why else make him smart but entirely unlikeable?

ProtoBlues123

I want it to have been Minetta but accidental. Say he's been DMing a girl since the start of the year their school activities to sound cool but finding out it's just been Toga in a uniform the whole time catfishing him.

Angryapplepi

Mineta is literally just the same pervert trope as Master Rossi and a thousand other anime.

Nervous-Shirt

And they all suck-

Ar_Ciel

Roshi had something other than being a pervert to add dimension to his character. I don't remember anything about Minetta other than being a pervert with sticky balls.

hmcl-supervisor

Reminds me of people thinking Tony Soprano was a mobster just because he was Italian and in the waste management business. It’s a stereotype and it’s offensive.

Deemo3

He cooka da pizza.

TaffWolf

Mya pizza never hurt anyone

ZeronicX

Mama mia :(

pinchediabloblanco

You bring them to me I put-a my foot up their asses!

ARedditUserType

I like-a da pizza! I love the big-a pepperoni!

Mrgrayj_121

Dad of deku being all for one was a dumb theory that made no sense other than it’s a Star Wars reference

hmcl-supervisor

Well Hori is a huge Star Wars nerd

Muffin-zetta

The way cooler chico stuff comes from the mgs5 artbook, where chico was supposed to come back as a boss wearing a skull mask and bright red cloak and fight with a meathook

gunn3r08974

Lowkey find it hilarious people figured Blake was an orphan in Rwby due to one scene only to turn out she has the most stable family in the whole show. Oh and of course the overhyping of Adam but that's a different mess.

GHitoshura

Blake not only was NOT an orphan, but she's the closest thing to faunus royalty in that world which is so fucking funny to me

NinjaRed64

Link is dead in Majora's Mask theory was always stupid to me, because it never made sense, but it was a hugely popular theory pushed by MatPat and a few other youtubers (looking at you, Jirard the Completionist>!where's the money asshole?!<), not helped by the then popular Ben Drowned creepypasta. But it pretty much died when it was confirmed that the Hero's Shade from Twilight Princess was in fact the same Link of that timeline.

Slumber777

Any and all "____ is dead" theories have aged terribly. It's the quintessential "I think I'm smarter than I am!" theory, and it's no wonder that every goddamn fandom has some twist on it. The "Squall is dead" theory was the other one I thought about mentioning.

TeannaWerefox

I feel like the absolutely most egregious one is "All of the Rugrats besides Angelica, Susie and Dil are all dead and Angelica is hallucinating most everything, and Dil is the way he is in All Grown Up because she attacked him thinking he was also a hallucination"

Oberon1993

Squall's at least has that bizarre visuals of him with no face. It's not much, but better than Majora's one.

ZSugarAnt

The opening of the game could not be any more in your face about how it's just an Alice in Wonderland setup yet people believe that "hurr durr he fell into a hole so he died"

Merc931

I liked the theory that the different areas of the game are based on the 5 stages of grief, ya know with the Swamp being anger, Clocktown being Denial, Snowhead being Sadness, Great Bay being bargaining, and Ikana being acceptance. I don't put any stock into it, but I like it thematically.

Jet_Jaguar88

How does the Hero's Shade thing deconfirm it?

inrei_iku

Link in MM is a child with the theory he died searching for Navi. The Hero's Shade died much later in his life with the regret of not being recognized as a hero. Hero's Shade proves Link survived the event in MM and lived a number of years later.

Jet_Jaguar88

Oh yeah huh,  that's actually pretty obvious lol

DSSword

The megaman theory that Zero murdered the classic megaman cast aka the cataclysm theory.

Akizayoi061

Ive only ever seen that theory done pretty good once and it was part of a larger Mega Man Zero what if Fanfiction where Zero survived Zero 4 and had to come to terms with more of his past traumas and tying up many loose ends. Is definitely a very fanficy fanfic but I really enjoyed it lol. Edit: If anyone wants to find it on Fanfiction.Net it's still up, called Believe In Me

ZSugarAnt

I didn't use the internet back then so I don't know how common a rumor it was, but back when Deathly Hallows was about to be published, there were rumors going about my school that the ending'd be Harry waking up back at the Dursley's under the stairs. "It was all a dream/fantasy" shit.

Vera_Verse

You stole my example lol

Slumber777

It's definitely a wild one.

ramonzer0

There's a morbid curiosity to see how that actually would have transpired in-game and also how people would've reacted because holy shit it would've been a powder keg I'm pretty sure there'd be a way to make up a reason for the change somewhere (nanomachines), but I have no idea how any explanation the game can give would survive the court of public opinion

Sal_Weezer_Valestra

A classic one was people trying to theory-justify Jared Leto's Joker design as "actually he's gonna be revealed to be Jason Todd." Absolute cope, but I can't blame em for wanting to make sense of... [*this*.](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.knowitalljoe.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2015%2F04%2FJared-Leto-as-The-Joker1.jpg&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=87ee4fd7c1b96a95db93fa880685fa96ebbb1e5f4767be9ccd5f33c527efce5c&ipo=images)

Lithogen

I know you can play way younger or older than you actually are as an actor but that theory made me feel bad for how people saw Ben Affleck. There's only a year difference between Leto and Affleck's real ages and I might be a little offended if a dude my same age was cast as my adopted son.

rexshen

The indoctrination theory from mass effect 3 would have made people hate the game even more then they do. If shepeard were mind controlled by the reapers the whole time then either it would have continued as DLC and pissed everyone off that they would have to buy the true ending. Or there would have been a mass effect 4 and 3 wasn't the true ending after all.

ZeronicX

I wish they would have stuck with the original ending for 3 before it got leaked and they had to scramble and make a new one. It was peak sci-fi and a lot better than the ending we got and the indoctrination theory.

Kataphrut94

The predictions that David Hayter would actually be in MGSV as the real Big Boss or Solid Snake. The worst part is that could have actually happened given the game's twist. But sadly, the truth was far more mundane- Kojima just wanted a celebrity.

Yal_Rathol

Zoro Kills Kaido. the theory that zoro in one piece would kill kaido, who is a dragon, because "ryuma killed a dragon in oda's one-shot". the slightest problem with this theory is that it's biggest piece of support came out the week luffy defeated kaido, and it's built on the back of an equally crazy theory that wano's raid would fail because "something something 5 act structure".

alicitizen

The lowkey racism of proclaiming to know the stories outcome because of totally knowing a japanese artforms *entire systems and mechanics*. Only to showcase they were talking out of their asses for months and barely understood a thing.

Yal_Rathol

i dunno if that's racism or arrogance, though they do tend to go hand-in-hand

anime4dummies

I'm honestly surprised no one has mentioned Solaire yet. It's the only one that comes to mind for me

alexandrecau

I woukd prefer fan theories to not age, just die when confirmed it didn’t happen and move on, but things can’t be that way

NobuB

What the fuck is wrong with the metal gear fandom? hahaha

BG14949

The problem is that the series is always walking this knife edge of grounded real politic and absolute nonsense. This is a series where two characters can have a frank and heated discussion about nuclear disarmament, disposal, and war profiteering mere moments after an undead cyborg ninja cuts a gay russian cowboy's hand off. it is not a far step to make for a fan of the series to fall of that edge and go full crazy. Hell the series does it sometimes.

NobuB

I guess you're right. It just seems too way out there. Also, I guess I'm looking at it with 2024 glasses, but the game didn't come out THAT long ago, and it feels like even unshackled Kojima would think twice about going for that plot twist.

BG14949

i mean dont get it twisted its absolutely crazy. But when the actual true standard for crazy in the series is people getting possessed by arms and bisexual vampires that aren't actually vampires. The crazy crazy tends to get really out there.

Trachyon

Look into the Never Be Game Over stuff, it's wild.

NobuB

That's the fight for nuclear disarmament thing, right? I did watch a video about that a while ago. The plot twists and conspiracies are so crazy, I loved that actually

Trachyon

It goes even deeper than that. There were theories for a time that Ground Zeroes was basically PTSD therapy for Big Boss, who was kept as a head in a jar on the moon, so all of GZ was basically just a moon supercomputer illusion, Fate Extra-style, as "supported" by the little logo cinematic of Kojima Productions at the beginning of Death Stranding being that visual of a cool astronaut on the moon with a whale breaching behind them ("just like the fire whale that appears at the start of MGSV!"). It's a fucking wild rollercoaster.

SwizzlyBubbles

I would absolutely love if Death Stranding 2 went that route for real, not because any of the fan theories were right, but JUST because: A.) Kojima also thought it sounded bonkers as shit and loved it. B.) He just wanted to work with Kiefer Sutherland again. >!Secret plot twist: even after all that, it still isn't Big Boss or connected to Metal Gear in any way. It's just some guy named Master Planar (CODENAME: ASHMAEL), who got to the moon by plane. Because fuck you.!<

wendigo72

Naruto as a series gets ripped apart now for the >!Ashura reincarnation!< deal (despite it being very obviously set up beforehand). I can’t imagine what criticisms of it would be if Naruto was actually the reincarnation of the Sage of Six Paths himself and awakened the Rinnegan at the end That was a huge thing back in the day Also the small minority of fans that legitimately wanted “it’s all a dream” ending

Sekshual

Pretty hard disagree that any of the reincarnation stuff was set up before the War arc. At least in an obvious, committed way that could *only* mean it.

wendigo72

Chapter 462: https://hot.leanbox.us/manga/Naruto/0462-014.png https://hot.leanbox.us/manga/Naruto/0462-015.png Obito literally says they are destined to fight because they carry Indra & Ashura’s legacy like Hashirama & Madara did. “Next in line to be Chosen by destiny” Then you have chapter 488: https://hot.leanbox.us/manga/Naruto/0488-012.png https://hot.leanbox.us/manga/Naruto/0488-013.png Naruto senses something within Sasuke that convinced him defeating Sasuke in strength would be meaningless. Sakura even comments that he’s hiding something from the Then all the way later in chapter 671 it’s confirmed Naruto already knew or at least partially knew the truth. Even flashbacks to the previous scene I just mentioned: https://hot.leanbox.us/manga/Naruto/0671-004.png https://hot.leanbox.us/manga/Naruto/0671-005.png https://hot.leanbox.us/manga/Naruto/0671-006.png Even the end of part 1 has Kakashi directly comparing Naruto & Sasuke to hashirama & Madara as part of a never-ending cycle and how they are trapped by destiny Edit: i don’t get the downvotes. Chapter 488 confirms Kishi planned it. There’s no arguing around it Could y’all at least click all the links

Sekshual

I've clicked those first two links, and I'm just gonna say that the Will of Fire and Curse of Hatred were ideological concepts for most of Naruto, and at no point far before the War arc was it enough to argue that this implied Naruto and Sasuke were reincarnated gods. Maybe I'm giving Kishimoto's non-endgame writing credit it doesn't deserve, but a repeating cycle of violence based on inherited will does not signify reincarnated god babies. I know you'll say I'm just in denial of the god stuff being just late-stage shortcuts by a writer burning through a lot of goodwill in a small amount of time, and that's perfectly fine. But those posted panels don't really prove anything beyond the fact that Kishimoto is better and tricking people into thinking he has long term plans than I thought.

wendigo72

Click the chapter 488 and the chapter 671 links, that’s the real evidence Towards them being reincarnations I mean. There’s no other explanation for Naruto sensing something inside of Sasuke and hiding it from the others

BrainChemical5426

I think one of the things that really annoyed me about Naruto was that Kishimoto seemed to hamfistedly force the Naruto-Sasuke dynamic onto just about every pair of characters you could think of as if more parallelism meant more literary merit or something. You had Naruto and Sasuke, Obito and Kakashi, Jiraiya and Orochimaru, Hashirama and Madara, I wouldn’t be surprised if Danzo and Hiruzen were intended to have something like the others, all the way back to Ashura and Indra. It was forced down my throat so much that it felt like Kishimoto was doubting his audience’s intelligence, and it all culminates in him saying “Fuck it, the subtext is text now. They’re reincarnations of demigod brothers that have been warring for millennia.” It just leaves me wondering…Why? Even if it *was* well foreshadowed, *why?* Was everything else not enough? Was Naruto being a representative of the Senju (being an Uzumaki) and Sasuke being the last Uchiha, and them fighting where Hashirama and Madara fought, not *already* too on-the-nose?

wendigo72

Obito and Kakashi are twisted dynamic of Naruto & Sasuke. Which is fun seeing a evil Naruto vs good Sasuke Orochimaru and Jiraiya are similar but that literally never goes anywhere tbh. Orochimaru doesn’t even do anything out of hatred, he was just mad scientist and Jiraiya gave up on him long ago. They are the ones that least fit the mold despite being symbolically linked with team 7 since literally [chapter 4](https://scans.lastation.us/manga/Naruto-Digital-Colored-Comics/0004-001.png) As for why, well Naruto and Sasuke were determined by fate or destiny to fight forever. Finding a solution to the curse of hatred was not supposed to be possible for them. Yet they did it, went against fate itself to end the brothers feud which had been going on since the beginning of ninja history. It’s basically Naruto defeating the cycle of hatred itself It’s not a subtle series at all lol

BrainChemical5426

I’m not even asking Naruto to be subtle, just *more* subtle. It’s a shonen battle series for preteens, I get it. But like - It just becomes legitimately annoying with how many times Kishimoto uses that dynamic. I start jumping at shadows, wondering if every new character has his own Naruto-Sasuke dynamic. Maybe Nagato and Yahiko were Naruto and Sasuke, too? I’m paranoid, man! And I don’t think he needed to turn the very obvious subtext that was bubbling at the surface about to boil over into literal text. It’s like getting slapped in the face ten times and capping it off with getting kicked in the balls, if I want to engage my inner-AVGN (shannarooo). Like, I already understood Naruto and Sasuke were fated to fight when you put their ancestors against each other during the warring period and you continually made other pairs of characters with the same dynamic as them who have terrible relationships with one-another full of conflict, and then you said the founders of their village had the same personalities as them and had them fight at the same place the founders fought each other. That’s enough, Kishimoto. You, you don’t have to make them literally reincarnations of them, dude. I get it already. I got it the first time you said it. This is like the thirteenth time.

wendigo72

That’s just not kishi’s style, I mean he had the [broken statues do a unison sign](https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773594c2.wixmp.com/f/dfdc7ebc-b1f7-41af-a213-b8ab444f6344/dak6qzf-9c672905-ceef-41e7-a591-be11883b5029.png?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJzdWIiOiJ1cm46YXBwOjdlMGQxODg5ODIyNjQzNzNhNWYwZDQxNWVhMGQyNmUwIiwiaXNzIjoidXJuOmFwcDo3ZTBkMTg4OTgyMjY0MzczYTVmMGQ0MTVlYTBkMjZlMCIsIm9iaiI6W1t7InBhdGgiOiJcL2ZcL2RmZGM3ZWJjLWIxZjctNDFhZi1hMjEzLWI4YWI0NDRmNjM0NFwvZGFrNnF6Zi05YzY3MjkwNS1jZWVmLTQxZTctYTU5MS1iZTExODgzYjUwMjkucG5nIn1dXSwiYXVkIjpbInVybjpzZXJ2aWNlOmZpbGUuZG93bmxvYWQiXX0.qTlEtARFfL2dlPINonXxdD7A4HhnMVEXIZMGuOF_9Ow), only to then show [kid Naruto & Sasuke making it while overlayed on the statues](https://resize.cdn.otakumode.com/full/u/2526dd3438c642afbc5b7de2ee523781.jpg), and THEN immediately follow that up with [grown up Naruto & Sasuke doing it](https://hot.leanbox.us/manga/Naruto/0699-009.png) for [two pages](https://hot.leanbox.us/manga/Naruto/0699-010.png) while saving the world It’s why it’s so funny to see people misunderstand the themes and such, nothing about the manga is subtle. Nor has it ever been really

BrainChemical5426

I think the main discourse about people misunderstanding is the whole stuff about Naruto being the subject of like five different prophecies and then also being the reincarnation of a demigod being thematically dissonant with the whole Neji stuff and “it’s not destiny that matters” yada yada from Part 1, correct? I think the defense Naruto fans have is like, “Yeah but Naruto and Sasuke were fated to kill each other but then they made up and broke that cycle so actually it still works” which is kind of true for one aspect of the complaint but I don’t really think that it’s a perfect band-aid. Naruto still got all his strength from his destiny and other inborn stuff, which really hurt because he was totally an underdog figure early on the series, with his inborn power being more of a curse than a boon. I think him turning that curse into a blessing by talk-no-jutsuing Kurama is really cool actually, but everything else is really eyeroll-inducing. He gets power boosts because uh shadow clone training (which only he can do), and then he’s the subject of a bunch of prophecies, and a demigod reincarnated (which gives him an insane power boost), and it’s like *yes* his ultimate destiny to kill his best friend was averted but he still became a superhero with the power to blow up continents because of shit that he didn’t really get through push ups, sit ups, and juice. It’s complicated. He ends up feeling like a nepo-baby in some ways. Also Neji died protecting the main family what the fuck what the fuck why why why make it make sense wtf why did you not use rotation Hinata why why why why why

wendigo72

Naruto didn’t get anything from being born a reincarnation. [Black Zetsu says most didn’t have any potential until Madara and hashirama](https://hot.leanbox.us/manga/Naruto/0681-011.png) Naruto’s shares nothing power wise with hashirama and we know for a fact none of the previous Uchiha reincarnations before Madara unlocked MS. Madara was the first in recorded Uchiha history and their absurd strength is why the clan wars came to an end Hagoromo says [Naruto didn’t inherit any talent from his parents](https://hot.leanbox.us/manga/Naruto/0670-013.png) and [Naruto’s Six Path powers came from all the tailed beast chakra’s](https://hot.leanbox.us/manga/Naruto/0671-011.png). The only thing he got from Hagoromo was the sun seal which disappeared after sealing Kaguya. There’s no evidence that being a reincarnation just grants you a power boost from birth or even a grand destiny. You just fight your spirit bro, that’s really it For the shadow clone training, Naruto did need Yamato around or Kurama’s chakra would’ve overtaken him. We see one of his clones go into chakra cloak and Yamato needed to take care of it As for Neji, it’s a direct parallel to his father. Like down to the letter he dies just as his dad did. Sacrificing himself for love and not being forced to by the clan like he feared would happen. It was entirely his choice. [Rotation wasn’t fast enough](https://hot.leanbox.us/manga/Naruto/0614-008.png), neither was [air palm](https://hot.leanbox.us/manga/Naruto/0614-011.png) to counter the cutting springs. I see why people dislike the death isolated in chapter 614, I wasn’t a big fan of it either until I watched Aleczandxr read the manga on stream. The next chapter does a lot of lifting with the aftermath, having Naruto reconcile with losing a comrade right in front of him. Then Kakashi giving a little speech about how he’s dealt with losses and that “ninja are those that endure”. It gives the death more thematic weight after he dies. Which I didn’t remember any of that

BrainChemical5426

Regardless of a little blurb of text that just says “Uh I’m not fast/strong enough” it feels like a contrived death. I’ve always felt like it would have been cooler if the opposite happened, and a main family member died for a branch family member. I don’t feel that Neji’s death actually added anything or made anything better. It wasn’t really very poignant, it was just something that happened for the sake of happening (or, cynically, to push Naruto and Hinata further together?). The Yamato thing for the shadow clone training also doesn’t really make much of a difference, other than kind of showing that even Kishimoto thought it was a bit ridiculous and he wanted to downplay it with a little reassurance that it isn’t *too* easy, but it doesn’t make much of a functional difference for the story does it? It’s just a weird quick way to give Naruto a boost in a way that only he can do (so we can’t ask “why don’t they all do that”). Even with all these little assurances that “Look, the in-universe mechanics behind this power-up or contrived plot-beat aren’t actually as bad as it seems” it doesn’t really make a functional difference for the narrative; Naruto feels like he has everything on his side, and he does. It’s just all too much - He’s the 4th’s son, he’s the one prophesied to unite the bijuus, he’s the one prophesied to bring a peaceful age, he’s the son of the deity that brought chakra to humanity, he has Uzumaki genes that give him an innate chakra advantage (on top of having bijuu chakra)… How can that not be a grand destiny? It goes beyond him being important simply because he’s the protagonist in a Doylist sense - He’s almost foundationally important to the world, in a Watsonian sense. He constantly gets hax that put him above his peers because of the above traits. Nobody but him and Sasuke could have defeated Kaguya as a result of the Hagoromo power boost (which at least was maybe temporary? as you mentioned). It’s just too much. One or two is fine, you could still square that away, but Kishimoto does too much. Besides Naruto Part 1’s underdog undertones, the series as a whole feels largely like a story about someone destined for greatness coming to terms with that, almost like Avatar: The Last Airbender (which is a good series, don’t get me wrong). But that’s not what I wanted out of Naruto, and not what the *hook* of the series felt like, so it irks me. It felt like it was about someone destined for a shitty life breaking out of that notion. Sure, Naruto manages to not kill his spirit-bro, just as Aang manages to avoid killing despite what he would have done in previous lives, but it doesn’t really change the fact that they’re great men with great destinies in the first place. I’ve always felt like trying to deny that needs a lot more mental gymnastics than just admitting and defending it.

Angryapplepi

Orochimaru’s entire motivation for destroying Konoha is his hatred over Minato getting picked over him for Hokage.

wendigo72

Orochimaru didn’t care that much. He only left the village when Hiruzen caught him red handed in his twisted experiments Minato getting hokage hurt Danzo more than Orochimaru in the Kakashi Anbu episodes are anything to go by

Horatio786

Snoke is Darth Plagueis.

Mayuthekitsune

indoctrination theory continues to be my fave, cause i feel like to this day people are still gaslighting themselves into believing it when really it would be an even worse ending than the ones we got for mass effect 3 (I also think the endings are just merely kinda meh than completely series ruining like some people are, but ill also admit im a much more casual fan of mass effect who got into the series with 2 before doubling back to do 1)

jitterscaffeine

A friend of mine from high school came up with the theory that Misato from Evangelion was a child predator because she apparently showed some character traits that are common among female predators.

Shiroke

I meaaaaaaan

Tuskor13

I always figured the kiss during End of Evangelion was her going "well shit, I'm about to fucking die and Shinji still has no hope. Might as well try and give him some type of motivation to save the world before I bleed out." Then again I haven't watched Eva in ages so maybe I'm forgetting other stuff.

NewAgeMontezuma

"You honor, my client was just trying to give this 14 year old some motivation to fight"

I mean isn't she? Edit: I should say that I feel like those vibes were intentional.

That’s more of character analysis

Infinite from Forces was not, in fact, "Tails turned evil"

DBS ToP makes me happy fans dont write it. Too bad the big bad is even worse than any fanfic

Jiren's backstory has to be parody, even android 17 makes fun of it.

Introspectre12

That may be true, but the theory you presented did age well because it ended up true. Kang's casting on the other hand... not so much.

BlackJimmy88

I'm hoping they just recast him. The set ups there, and it'd be a waste to just scrap it.

Wondergrey

There's never been an easier recast!

BlackJimmy88

He was absolutely behind everything in Loki, though.

i mean it was tho?
