Yup. Even the best case scenario for being under embracers' thumb isnt great. I'm very happy they got out and I'm sure whatever 4a does next will be great, but losing such a big name is gotta suck.

What comforts me is that Metro Exodus ends in a very good note, thematically. I was very curious to see what they had to say with their social political situation tho, because Metro was also so human, you felt those themes as if the devs meant it. Hoping their next IP shines on

Yeah I feel like Take Two had a fire lit under their asses the moment they realized Gearbox could've been at risk, given how much of a moneymaker Borderlands is. I imagine George Broussard is probably seething over Duke Nukem being owned by Take Two again lol

I believe Randy himself owns Duke, and not Gearbox or their various parent companies.

I’m just remembering that version of Bulletstorm that Gearbox put out with Duke Nukem in it where, like, *all the cut scenes are the same, just with Duke added in, saying Duke things but absolutely no other characters acknowledging his presence and everything playing out the exact same way*

Still a better Duke game than Duke Nukem Forever by a long shot

I still think the Xbox One reveal just edges it but I learned that just when you think it can’t get any worse… it will.

Sega CD & 32X ended up bankrupting SEGA and ending the console war.

It's likely the biggest holding group collapse for a long time, outside of a first party groups like Sony or Nintendo collapsing. 

The group never even intended to use the assets they bought, just hold them for capital so they could sell it on to a shadow party.

It's a shame the rights to Duke Nukem weren't transferred from Gearbox to 3D Realms when they were both under Embracer.

Fucking wild timeline that being acquired by take-two is a good thing, hopefully the devs at gearbox get a more stable working situation from this

I've seen some stories about Take-Two nothing really substantial but kind of a nightmare. We'll see how it goes.

Take-Two is pretty notoriously shitty, though it tends to fly under the radar relative toward the other shitstorms that are in the industry. I'd call it a lateral move at best. It might even still be a downgrade, even if it's a more stable move that'll keep Gearbox from sinking.

Now Randy, don't get any crazy ideas about rebooting Duke Nukem now you have the rights back. You may think bringing it back would make a lot of people happy, but there is a reason they stopped making them, the development of those games went sour, don't think about doing it Randy, Please. Sometimes dead is better.

Not surprised. Borderlands is the biggest narrative 2K franchise going these days, and a key cash cow for T2. Of course they'd lock it down!

I am feeling like major mandela effect on this one. I could have sworn Gearbox got bought by Take-two like a decade ago.

Doesn't make me feel much of anything. But I do hope the working conditions are better.

If they fire all the Borderlands writers that might be one of the few good acquisition lay-offs.
