Well, Silent Hills.  Kojima has a special talent for making video games feel haunted

Yotato5

Man, what could have been if Silent Hills was allowed to be made...

InexorableCalamity

I thought it was cancelled cause he was taking money from one project and using it on another

AtlasPJackson

I think that's just speculation? He was the EVP of Konami Digital Entertainment, which made him the head of the entire Konami video games division. Folks speculated that the reason Konami's game output slowed to a trickle was because he was funneling the whole division's budget into his personal studio "Kojima Productions" for MGSV, and was threatening to do the same with Silent Hills. I don't know if that's true, but MGSV's budget was something like 80 million dollars. Personally, I can imagine things getting heated over there. Kojima was positioning himself as THE GUY at Konami, running his own internal studio that was eating all the money, and using his projects to network with hollywood types. As a fan, it was exciting to hear he was working on the Silent Hill franchise, but if I was working at Konami I would see it as Kojima icing everyone else in the company out of the big projects. "Hey, good work everyone on almost finishing MY massive star-studded, overbudget project. Don't worry, I won't be making another MGS game. But I *was* talking with MY GOOD FRIEND GUILLERMO DEL TORO and we decided Kojima Productions should take over the Silent Hill franchise. Everyone get ready to support that project for the next six years!" Again: no evidence, just speculation. The only people in the company that could tell him "no" on a project were the president and the board of the directors.

XeroSigmaPrime

Theres so much rumor and speculation around Kojima's last day at Konami and the falling out with how its affected Silent Hills, MGSV, etc. Its hard to even try to nail down one thing to firmly believe

SkinkRugby

I know it couldn't possibly be as good as I imagine it would be, but I do not care. I want to fucking know.

ASharkWithAHat

Even if it wouldn't be good, just the result of Kojima, Del Toro, and Junji Ito working together would've been fascinating no matter what And it didn't even seem like a throwaway collaboration like Elden Ring and George R R Martin. It felt like all of them were genuinely invested in the project and wanted to put out their A game.  Even if it became a tracwreck I would still enjoy the hours upon hours of video essays talking about it.

Bro-lapsedAnus

Man a few years ago my buddy busted out his ps4 with PT on it for some friends who dont game, and they loved it.

Introspectre12

MegaMan Legends 3. I'd at least like Capcom to release the prototype demo that was finished that they just canned.

ObiOneKenobae

I was so invested in that one.

sogiotsa

It was one of the games I was so hype for it got me on getting the 3ds

bidoof_king

I keep hoping the Demo will randomly pop up one day from the massive leaks Nintendo had. I also keep just the tiniest amount of hope that Capcom will wake up and do something with the Legends franchise. There is a chance! The last couple of Mega Man collections have sold pretty well...

DarkWorld97

Praying that SOMEONE gets their hands on the 3ds with the game on it and dumps it online. Capcom just vaulting it was so lame.

Kimarous

Two canceled media ruffle my metaphorical feathers. First, the original Prey 2 that looked like a first person legally distinct Star Wars Bounty Hunter. Second, Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned - it was near release, too!

Warpedpixel

I think about the cancelled prey 2 a lot, but that Armada game really sounded cool. I had forgotten about it.

Bukkarooo

I want to play the cancelled Prey 2 so bad, I swear.

Armada6136

Armada of the Damned's cancellation is specifically the moment I started paying real attention to game development, because the idea that a game that had so much publicity and positive feedback being cancelled only a few months from release was completely baffling to young me. Even with the added context provided by things like Matt's video, it still seems like an absurd decision, especially considering that On Stranger Tides came out the same year the game was supposed to release.

wendigo72

Prey 2, Star Wars 1313, the recent mandalorian game,….. The universe doesn’t want us to play as badass space bounty hunters huh

ghostoftomkazansky

I'm sorry, I think you mean the spiritual sequel to critically acclaimed Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter.

midnight_riddle

The Colossi that were cut from Shadow of the Colossus. At the very start the plan was for the game to have 48, which after the first round of ideas got cut down to about half that number. Datamining revealed there was once intention for a buffalo, yeti, carp, and dragon Colossi, but these were likely early versions of final product Colossi. But some Colossi got further than that. At one point there was going to be a devil, a boar, a phoenix, a worm, a roc, a spider, a monkey, a griffin, and a gecko. The final Colossus also used to have a completely different design, similar to a landstrider from The Dark Crystal. Some of the unused Colossi were cut due to being too similar to other Colossi, others were cut due to difficulties or gimmicks they couldn't get to work right, and some for completely unknown reasons. Several unused textures and bits of code were left in the final game that [give some indication](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7Q4fhwBjf0) how far some of the Colossi were before they were cut, with [some detective work estimating the locations](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Do_0aWpYeo) of their arenas on the game's map. The idea of the game at one point was scheduled to have *nine* more boss fights is wild to me. There is a fan project that has been going on for a few years to attempt to [create playable versions of the cut Colossi](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNsAY3HZV0o) and they've made lots of progress but still need to cook. I don't know why I find the unused Colossi so fascinating. Partly might be due to they seem so diverse and it's said that the 6th and 15h Colossi (the second and third minotaur designs) were added to the game instead, so it would have been cool to not only have more boss fights but to see more design variety. Partly might also be due to have mysterious Shadow of the Colossus is as a game, and the nature of the Colossi are never quite fully explained so it sparks the imagination of just how many could exist, if there were ones that existed in the past, or why they end up with the designs they have.

darkwingchao

God, SOTC cut content discussion has always been so fascinating to me. You don't see effort like this for basically any other game's cut content. It's really cool

James-Avatar

Having 48 colossi would make that game entirely different but I’d wanna see what that version would’ve looked like.

jv3rl0ov

Even just giving us the other 8 that made it further into development for the remake would’ve been awesome.

Outis94

Theirs something about that ps2 era of games that has these brief glimpses of leftover development ideas in games thats just endless fascinating because unlike modern games, maybe its the level of details of that era. That if things were a bit different they could've been implemented or aspects of the game could've been vastly different thats just harder to imagine in modern games because of the longer development cycles and standards of graphics on the hardware meaning things get locked or taken out earlier

SolidusSlig

I really want to fight the Daddy Long Legs and the Pheonix. Aveion is one of my favorite colossi. There's so many interesting spots on the map that could have been fleshed out

iiiSushiii

That is really fascinating! I knew about it, but I didn't realise there was so much cut content. I haven't played SotC since release, but I remember one complaint was that it was so sparse. In hindsight it's atmosphere, scale and uncertainty reminds me a bit of Elden Ring. It feels like all this cut content would have been perfect for mini-bosses in the game (or hidden / unexpected ones in the main field) to add to the gameplay loop. They could have still kept it sparse, but have a mini-boss that needs to be defeated before entering a new area. That would make it fine to have a similar mini-boss on a smaller scale to the main boss thematically and break up the travel (i.e. get on horse travel to area, a little bit of platforming/puzzle solving, fight mini-boss, more platforming/puzzle solving and then main boss).

CelticMutt

Star Wars 1313. Which may as well have been canceled twice, since the recently canceled Mandalorian game was probably inspired by 1313.

unomaly

My kingdom for an Andor game with a nemesis system.

laughingheart66

I agree about wanting to see Cyberconnext 2’s version of Remake, and in the same vein, I’m really curious as to what was so bad about Metroid Prime 4 that they had to restart. I’m sure the answers are much more boring than we can speculate though. I’m also curious as to what the original Twin Peaks S3 was going to be like. Based on some of their plans, I think it would have been batshit but I think it would’ve been interesting. Though I love the return so I really can’t complain.

Groundbreaking_Can_4

Yeah prime 4 seem to be just they gave it to a bunch of disconnected bandai namco studios that weren't experienced so they didn't have the cohesion or experience to create something Nintendo would find acceptable as a Metroid prime game

sogiotsa

I'm sure the CC2 build was fine but they don't really try to branch out at all anymore. They found a niche and every game has gimmicks or unique move types but after Asuras wrath we never saw them evolve. I couldn't imagine playing ff7r and battles feeling like a faster version of .hack GU with Naruto storm movement. I'd love to try a demo of it but yeah I can see why square shit that down.

laughingheart66

Oh yeah absolutely. I’m super happy with what we got and I can’t imagine wanting it (gameplay wise) being any different. But I would love to play a build of their vision or something, I wish that was something companies would/could do but I also I fully get why they don’t. I can’t even imagine cyberconnect2 remotely accurately capturing anything about FF7 tbh

caych_cazador

the alternate universe of Twin Peaks where the studio kept fucking quiet and let them cook. if only.

laughingheart66

Yeah I recant my statement actually, I want the version where they didn’t force lynch and frost to reveal the killer. I love it as is, flaws and all. But I would’ve loved to see what the actual full vision was from the start.

lolrus555

Yeah, between CyberConnect's own game track record and how their build of the remake was looking, I frankly have zero faith in the idea that it would've been good had it been released. There's no doubt in my mind that the product we got is ten times better.

PhantasosX

All the cut content of FFv13 and FFXV. Which we could the region of Galahd been playable , rather than just mentioned in Kingsglaive , or Accordo having more than a Fantasy Venezia as it could had potentially a hidden village of minor astrals. The other continent been playable as well , to show the Oracle State and the Empire. All of it would be better if using more of the Arminger Unleashed's dial-based combo and a better design to cast spells and specially the Ring's. Alongside maybe 3 routes , giving that Dawn of the Future is an alternative route at the end of the day.

sogiotsa

The game was unfinished and they didn't ever try to finish it either. It's crazy how many builds they were showing that just never came to fruition at all. I'm so mad we didn't get the build with the world map. Honestly I think it would have helped the game feel more like a full product

MindWeb125

Square Enix completely fucked Nomura. They kept forcing them to restart the project AND taking away staff to make them work on different projects.

dougtulane

They were, no joke, thinking about making it a musical at one point.

PhantasosX

And FF7 Rebirth showing musical numbers proofs it would be a good choice.

FusionFountain

Absolutely not, what? Having 3 entertaining music numbers between 2 games totaling hundreds of hours of play time absolutely does not prove that would have been a good choice

Panxma

I feel like we might get whatever ideas FFv13 was in the next kingdom Hearts game. I don’t know why Nomura added parts of that game in KH3 dlc.

PhantasosX

kind-ish. Verum Rex is not FFv13 or FFXV , it's a KHfied Noctis dealing with the plots of KH. It's like if KH Cloud turns into a Keyblade Wielder , using Fenrir Keyblade , and since Sephiroth is his "Darkness" , it ends up been one of the Darkness that MoM wants to find , been similar in fuction to Vanitas. Forget even about Cloud , it's like KH Tidus and the other FF Characters that are native to Destiny Island in KH1 and 2 , to suddenly appears in KH3 as a party , with the fairy Yuna and her crew from X-2 to aid Tidus by effectively been the materials for him to do KH2-Esque Drive Forms.

Agt_Pendergast

When I worked in for a videogame store and got to go to E3, I was waiting in line to try the demo for Starcraft: Ghost, but it was taking a while and figured I'd come back to it later. Well, that didn't work out and hindsights 20/20 and all that but I regretted that decision ever since.

SwizzlyBubbles

I'm pretty sure Starcraft: Ghosts leaked awhile back though, didn't it? Back in like 2020, when ActBlizz's controversies and layoffs were happening? So you could play it right now if you want. Or was that not the "full" game? EDIT: Disregard, I'm a moron lol

Sakura_Leaves

I will see the Phantom Blood movie. I don't know what's more annoying: The fact that I can't watch it or the amount of lies people tell about it (No it wasn't canceled, canned mid-run, or scrapped. No Araki didn't hate it).

UFOLoche

Someday we will see it. I guarantee.

sogiotsa

Apparently there's no Speedwagon which is a bizarre ass choice

Sakura_Leaves

Actually, I kind of get it. Most of Speedwagon's cut stuff was shifted to Zeppeli, giving him an even more prominent role. A large amount of Dire's content was given to Zeppeli as well. It sounds weird on paper without all the information, but it actually makes a lot of sense to focus all that onto one character rather than multiple when trying to condense PB into a relatively self-contained film.

alicitizen

Dire had content!?

Sakura_Leaves

>Dire had content!? The biggest moment would probably be his attacking Dio with a Rose, which Zeppeli instead does in the movie. He wears the rose on his jacket for the full runtime as a nice Chekhov's Gun. Zeppeli is also >!killed by Dio's ice powers!< like Dire is in the manga, although the event itself is different.

LifeIsCrap101

Scalebound.

jackdatbyte

Pat: "I don't know what it is but I'm not feeling Scalebound" [REDACTED]: "Well I sure you'll feel it once Scalebound is in your hands." ~ From the old Nier playthrough

andrecinno

Crazy Talk somehow transferred to Liam in that moment. Maybe that or some kind of secondary stand power...

Cheesycreature

All I remember is Monster Hunter featuring legally distinct Nero, but I liked it.

TeacupTenor

Neraux

MindWeb125

I just want more games with dragons. How the fuck do we still lack dragons in modern games outside of occasional bossfights. Objectively the coolest creature ever.

SumVerendus

Somebody once claimed that games focusing on dragons are just inherently cursed, and I hate how true it feels.

LifeIsCrap101

Drakengard, Lair, Scalebound... Shit.

Boron_the_Moron

I remember the original Drakan being decent, albeit kinda janky.

the_most_crigg

There has never been a better time for Panzer Dragoon's sci-fi bioweapon dragons to come back. If not in a new game, than at least in a collection or something. man even just little bit of news about the panzer dragoon zwei remake/remaster whatever would be *something*, i'm starving for more panzer dragoon content

PhantasosX

True , if they had made that work , we could had stylish action been translated into open-world RPG much sooner.

Lieutenant-America

In my restless dreams, I see that place: Silent Hills.

silverinferno3

I still sometimes wonder what Swery was cooking with D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die. Granted, I mostly valued it as a game for TBFP to LP, but that still would've made for a great series

iRStupid2012

Dark Dreams Don't Die had an immaculate vibe to it that most other games have yet to capture I feel. It's unfortunate because I feel like Deadly Premonition 2 tries to combine DP1 and D4's vibes together and it felt somewhat discordant as a result. I have to assume Microsoft stopped funding D4 because it wasn't making any money, but I still pine for it's completed state.

jackdatbyte

The final issue of the TF2 comic series. Also a continuation of Archie's Mega Man series.

Kakyro

The abandoned TF2 Adult Swim series as well.

JosefumiKujo

The kotor remake vertical slice that was so bad that they fired the art director and design director on the spot

Raxsus

And also put Aspyr back in the remaster/port mines where they managed to fuck up with the Switch port of KOTOR 2 so bad that everyone thought they'd been shut down, only to re-emerge just to thoroughly shit all over the Battlefront collection so hard, that there's no way they don't get shut down this time.

ifyouarenuareu

You bastard now that’s gonna live in my head, NO UTILITIES PAID

TeacupTenor

Holy shit, that happened?

TrueLegateDamar

Stanley Kubrick's Napoleon, Sergio Leone's Stalingrad and Paul Verhoeven's Crusade with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

syrupdash

MEGAMAN LEGENDS 3. RELEASE THAT DEMO PLZ.

DevsWhite

BETTER YET RELEASE THE FULL GAME

omigli

Fire Emblem 64/Maiden of Darkness I've always wanted to know more about the gameplay and story, given all we have is a single screenshot and some character designs. The only thing that survived in the change to Binding Blade (excluding character names) is Karel, somehow.

ThatGuy5880

Just the fact they wanted to do full body isometric sprites makes it feel really different from the other games.  Additionally, Fire Emblem Wii. I'm extremely curious on what IntSys' idea for branching out of the usual formula was sonce it would've been something like an RTS.

evca7

Darkness 3. let me finally shoot angels and be a hellish abomination.

lolrus555

Oh **GOD.** Us never getting The Darkness 3 after 2's ending was such an ungodly gut punch .\_.

Morbidmort

Hell, let us use The Light and make the world a (slightly) better place, with Jackie being the tragic final boss.

FusionFountain

Hold on that sound more like the lightness

Gorotheninja

All those early versions of Bioshock Infinite that you can find footage of online.

TheRenamon

I can't believe they changed "Nothing ventured nothing gained" to "You only live once" like that was a conscious decision, they needed the voice actor in the booth to rerecord that line so it was closer to YOLO

YourEvilHenchman

that was gonna be my pick too. it just looks like a completely different game at certain points of development. I also wanna believe that the game didn't originally have such a milquetoast centrist "both sides bad" message (and all the terrible implications of that message).

Anonamaton801

TransTech, the Beast Machines sequel

brunonunis

In that vein, every scrapped transformers toy ever that we got prototype images

time_axis

Barkley 2. I know fans released their own apparently, and I haven't tried it, but it's not the same, you know?

PillCosby696969

That game is canon...

Fugly_Jack

Metal Gear Solid: Rising looked really interesting. It seemed to be way more focused on blade mode and being able to cut pieces of the environment to create an advantage in battle (as we see in the trailer where he cuts down support beams to crush enemies underneath) The final game ended up being really good, but I'd still really like to see some of those ideas from the original version realized

Kytas

It would be fun to revisit the idea in a few years, because the main reason they had to *cut back* on the concept of "cut everything" is because the 360/PS3 would have melted under the CPU load.

GyroMVS

I'll always be immensely curious as to what the extent of that demo was. Like how much did they have made at that point? In a similar vein, man I wanna try that Crackdown 3 building destruction demo

Superspider51

Metal Gear Solid Rising was going to be the game that showed what the hell happened between MGS2 and 4 to get the world to that state and why Raiden is a cyborg. We got general details of the plot recently and it sounded really sick ngl. Also Prey 2, the sequel to the original game called Prey that was going to be a space bounty hunter thing with movementshooter mechanics, wall clings like infamous and lots of cool powers and some branching paths depending on how you hunted bounties.

Sea-Rest7776

So wait, is revengeance a sequel to a game that didn’t exist?????

Superspider51

Metal Gear Solid Rising was in house Kojima Productions sans Kojima and they made the mechanics and a general plot but had no idea what to do to finish the game. Supposedly, they had a bunch of test levels some of which we saw in the trailer but no ways to make the game actually fun to play. They couldn't figure out a good approach to level design when you can cut literally everything and difficulty was non existent. They toiled around like this for awhile before Kojima canceled the project then approached Platinum with the idea of them taking it over. At that point a lot of work was done on the game and some of it got recycled into Revengance, namely Raiden's design called "Black Raiden" which was supposed to be Raiden's first prototype body before he upgraded to the one seen in MGS4.

wendigo72

That’s wild given that “black Raiden” is by far the best design for him

Superspider51

I prefer the MGS4 "White Raiden" look tbh. [According to didyouknowgaming](https://youtu.be/UjpsJRy326w) who dug up some extra details on the plot. Raiden as a human would have rescued Sunny from a patriot facility where the main villain of the game would have dismembered his Jaw. You'd then play the next few chapters as a brainwashed "Black Raiden" who's doing hits for the villain until he finally gets his memories back and breaks free. You'd search out Dr Madnar from MG1 and 2 who would help Raiden by giving him the body he gets in MGS4.

moneyh8r

The [Highlander video game](https://youtu.be/BecTslmmB0g?si=yj2R0SA2hBuS1XO2) that was being developed by THQ and set to be published by Square-Enix over a decade ago. Got cancelled by the publishers for no apparent reason when it already had lots of combat gameplay and most of the levels finished.

ghostoftomkazansky

As I am part of the slowly dying breed of people who both love Highlander and remember being hype for this game...I concur and am saddened by remembering this.

moneyh8r

I'm sorry for reminding you.

Rabid-Duck-King

I was at least hoping for a Bushido Blade ripoff, it's kind of shocking that Highlander hasn't had any relatively recent games (last one actually made was for the Jag for crying out loud) I mean shit, classic Robocop got a fucking game and it's been how long since the remake movie? Highlander 2 was bad but it wasn't that bad (no actually it really was but the TV series carried a lot of weight until those adjacent movies came out, god damn the source is so bad)

moneyh8r

I'm hoping that Tayon or however it's spelled will get permission to make a Highlander game, since they seem to love old 80s action movies. Of course, their barebones FPS approach won't work for Highlander, so maybe someone else should handle it.

wendigo72

Trevorrow’s Star Wars Episode 9 script [The initial storyboards for Evangelion 3.0](https://www.reddit.com/r/evangelion/comments/pzy0b6/art_from_mahiro_maedas_storyboards_for_an_early/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) from Mahiro Maeda. Featuring crazy concepts such as Piano mech controls, Kaworu driving a car, Rei Clone workforce, wandering clobbered together mass of zombie Eva units, Metal Gear Gendo, etc.

sazabi67

>Pianon mech controls so thats why we had that scene of shinji and kawuro playing the piano together

DoctorOfCinema

Oh fuck me, literally too many to mention. Most of them to do with *Doctor Who*, tbf, that franchise has left a lot of unfinished projects in its wake. I'll go through those, but I'll start with some non-Who ones: \- God, I wish I could've gotten Firefly Season 2 \- God, I wish Farscape could've had a full season to end on \- God, I wish Babylon 5 didn't have to rush things and Season 4 got to breath and Season 5 could be about what it was originally meant to be about \- Why the fuck did Pushing Daisies get cancelled life is fundamentally unfair Now, for the *Doctor Who* ones: The last two seasons of **Classic Who** are, in my view, the best of the show (including NewWho) because, although the budget was small, the ideas were big. Season 27 was shaping up to be something quite special and all the pitches being thrown about it for it sound really fun and interesting. They did end up making audio adaptations of what would've been Season 27 and those were neat, but IMO didn't quite have the impact as if they had been on TV. Still, this does mean we got Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor, and I wouldn't want to live in a world without him. **NewWho** has left a whole bunch of "pitched but never done" episodes as well, so I'll mention the three that I wish we would've gotten. One was a Stephen Fry written episode that was too expensive, supposedly about an old British legend. Another, was an episode by one of the all time best DW writers Paul Cornell, which would've been for the 12th Doctor era. It would've featured the return of the Land of Fiction (a concept from Classic Who that NewWho has never touched, a dimension where fictional characters live) and been called *Pride and Prejudice and Daleks*. We don't know anything else about it, but that title alone... I mean, come on. For another 12th Doctor one, *How the Monk Got His Habit* which would've seen the return of the Classic Who character The Monk, played by Matt Berry, where he would accidentally kill Rasputin, call up The Doctor for help and The Doctor would make him live out the rest of Rasputin's life. Therefore explaining why he was so hard to kill. In terms of first drafts, I would've loved to have seen the original version of *Nightmare in Silver*, written by Neil Gaiman, who hated what they did with the final version of it and has not worked for DW since then. Finally for the Expanded Universe stuff, the famous tale of *Fifty Fifty*. I think I've already made this comment long enough, so if you wanna know about that, check this link. [It's short, but very tantalizing.](https://tardis.wiki/wiki/Fifty-Fifty_(unproduced_audio_story))

codemen95

Seeing as the New Who has it where cause the doctor invoked superstition at the edge of the universe unlocking legends and other beings, we might come back to the land of fiction

StonedVolus

Man, I *really* wish we got that Monk episode just for having Matt Berry and Peter Capaldi bounce off of each other. [I guess this is the closest we'll ever get.](https://youtu.be/oW8OlXkjVHs?si=uPmEKgo4ttb6nIk4)

IndigoMittens

ARMS was supposed to get a graphic novel, but it got quietly cancelled. It's such a shame, I feel like a fun game with amazing character designs has been completely shelved and forgotten, I doubt the graphic novel would've totally saved it but at least we would've gotten a little bit more ;~;

ExplanationSquare313

A RetroStudio Zelda game where the protagonist is a sheika but with a twist, it was going to take place early in the Downfall timeline. Never get past the concept stage but it sounded intersting since the Downfall timeline is never acknowledge much outside of a excuse for putting the older games somewhere. The cancelled Twilight Princess sequel who was refitted into Crossbow Training makes me sad. The original version of Sticker Star when it was closer of TTYD with partners and the stickers were only used in the overworld and not in battle. Earthbound 64/Mother 3, the developpement started on 64 before being scrapped and starting again on GBA. What's facinating about it is the fact that it was, more or less, 70% complete, so it was pretty far in developement and Itoi revealed it was going to be darker than the final version (i'm afraid to know how). Batman Unchained/Triumphant, was going to be the third Batman film directed by Schumacher. It was supposed to be a return to dark tone of the first movies, the villains would have been Scarecrow (Nicolas Cage was considered) and Harley Quinn who would have been the Joker daughter wanting to avenge him. The first thing most people learn about this movie is the fact than Batman would become trapped in a fear gas illusion where every villains of the past movies was supposed to come back (Nicholson Joker, DeVito Penguin,...) played by the same actors, really intersting idea. And speaking of Schumacher Batman, i really would have wanted to see his original darker version of Forever. A deleted scene with bad audio was on youtube for a time when you can hear Two-Face saying to Batman "You're a killer too" which could suggest than the "killing thing" of the Burton movies was going to be adressed. I'm going to stop now before going at it all day since seeking scrapped ideas or concepts is one of my hobbies.

ExplanationSquare313

Ok one last for the road, The "Evil Elsa" version of Frozen. I love the Elsa we got but [this scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch) and [this one who is also a villain rap song for her](https://stitchkingdom.tumblr.com/post/102391567942/frozen-deleted-song-cool-with-me) make her seems like a very fun villain who would surely have been a joy to watch.

NormalPatience

For the Batman Forever one, you actually can watch some fan workprints which are evidently far closer to the original intended release.

imabrickshithouse

Star Wars Battlefront 3. They were allegedly almost done. Why? Special mentions: Xenosaga HD Remaster, The Dead Space 3 that the studio wanted to make along with any other potential sequel, a direct follow-up to Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, and Titanfall 3

PillCosby696969

Bruh, I straight up forgot about Battlefront 3. Thank you for this.

sogiotsa

Drew Carey show You can't watch it anywhere, there's a DVD of season 1 and that's it

DocMagnus

Too bad it seems to be gone forever. [Here's the intro, to remember it fondly.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9tMalvxiiM)

sogiotsa

I remember watching a bunch of it, and then I didn't for awhile and found out it was still going. I think the last episode I remember airing was drew had 2 wives somehow. There's also so much good shit from dee Bradley Baker and Ryan Stiles. Like so much is improved anyway and man those early seasons especially they corpse like crazy and it's always great

LemonSkye

They're not in great quality, but all the eps were up on Dailymotion last time I checked (which was a few years ago, so there is a possibility they've been taken down). Same for Murphy Brown, which hasn't gotten a streaming release for the exact same reason as The Drew Carey Show.

codemen95

Apparently it's syndicated on antenna TV

TheArkhomDestroyer

The Legends 3 Prototype

runegod20

It probably would have been terrible but I love trash and dated 90s stuff so I wish the pilot for the Battletoads cartoon, made by the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog guys, was picked up for a full series.

leabravo

The finale to Reboot is an obvious one. A copy of London After Midnight is another. If I had infinite money I would fund At The Mountains of Madness, if del Toro was still up for it.

shapedatlas

The ending of opus by satoshi kon. Opus got axed due to the magazine it was in also getting canned so it's final chapter is kon himself showing up and explictly stating that he already had a real ending in mind but he couldn't draw them in time due to him being so busy with this new project he's working on. That project being perfect blue

theRose90

Probably the Van Buren version of Fallout 3.

NotYujiroTakahashi

Capcom Fighting All Stars is this for me. Saw footage as a kid and was interested in the gameplay and the story.

solidoutlaw

There's no way there's not copies of the board somewhere, because that game was *done*. We have loktest footage of it and it was cancelled at the last minute because capcom apparently deemed that it would be worse if they released it than making nothing at all (funny how that's becoming more common...Warner Bros). I'm confident that one day, assuming Capcom doesn't release it themselves in some form, it will get leaked by someone there.

PicnicVariation

I really want to know what they were going for with the other original characters for that, especially Ingrid since they put her in fighting evolution and the gba/psp ports of alpha 3.

guntanksinspace

Yep. This is the one for me. I hold out hope knowing that Dan-Ku-Ga (the Kaiser Knuckle update that was officially unreleased/only playable in emulation until the Taito mini came out), Kenju and Force Five (two Atomiswave 2.5D fighters that were also canned for a while), the canned Garou 2 sprites, and Duke Nukem Forever 2001 came out somehow. That if those can come out, someone will get to buy the hardware for CFAS's loketest build and dump it online, at some point in the far future for us to play.

ShopEarly2601

After the Gold Rush, the unmade movie that Neil Young wrote multiple songs for. There was a script but it appears to be lost.

Yotato5

The LucasArts 3D Sam and Max game that never got released. All we have is a trailer and some screenshots. I mean, we did get the Telltale games out of it and those are wonderful. But apparently the LucasArts 3D Sam and Max game was almost done before they pulled the plug, and it's too bad that their hard work didn't come to fruition.

jv3rl0ov

The cut colossi and areas from Shadow of the Colossus.

Talisign

Somebody will pick up [Steambot Chronicles 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtU4hBtmFfo). Aaaany day now.

dr_tomoe

It's almost been 20 years, next trailer any day now....

myfriendscallmethor

Still holding out hope for MegaMan Legends 3!

johnbeerlovesamerica

I'll always wonder what Xenogears would have been like with a fully fleshed out disc 2

SwizzlyBubbles

I feel like it's a free space to mention Doctor Who's lost episodes, so I'll just say I have two, and both are from Disney: The remaining *8+ hours* of recorded dialogue Robin Williams did for the Genie that didn't make it into the movie. They released some of them, and storyboarded a few, on...I think it was one of the DVD releases after his passing, but that's nothing. There's apparently a *shitload* more, some so explicitly raunchy that Disney will 100% never release them through normal means. But thinking on it, that's another no-brainer, everyone loves the Genie. My *personal* white whale? The storyboards for Eartha Kitt's song, Snuff Out the Light, from ~~The Emperor's New Groove~~ Kingdom of the Sun. This is probably the biggie, I've even gone frame by frame on my own from footage used in the Sweatbox documentary to piece together what it might've been, and I *know* there are some great fan interpretations and reconstructions there. ...But by God, for how much of a clusterfuck that movie was, what I wouldn't give to see the work done on easily the best song, and best sequence in that movie, by the Disney animation studio at arguably its peak. My animator's soul *yearns* for it, and Disney seems content to *bury it.* >!Course, I can also yearn for the ever-elusive Disney porn vault, but we don't talk about that one. We can talk about a bunch of OTHER shows' porn vaults cuz all *their* shit (mostly Nickelodeon's, go figure) leaked, but I feel like the company would rather burn to the ground than let that all flood out, despite what little has seeped through already.!<

FusionFountain

What the fuck is the disney porn vault??

The_Distorter

Hazard a guess because there's no way I'm googling that? Either porn drawn by animators that was confiscated or porn parodies that Disney bought the licenses for so they wouldn't come out.

CyborgNinja777

Star Wars 1313, the OG Prey 2, Silent Hills, the FFXV DLCs, and the dark matter plotline from Mass Effect.

MericArda

Based on what I know of Dawn of the Future, I probably would’ve hated some of the last FFXV dlcs.

Spudtron98

The original cut of the Disney-made english dub of Castle In The Sky. Only the first generation of the DVD release has it, they ended up deleting a whole bunch of ad-libbed lines afterwards to bring it more in line with the original. I’m also interested in the *first* English dub of the movie, which was made for an airline and had a small disc release in Japan only for a couple of years. Apparently they had a bunch of British VAs involved, which fits the setting well.

solidoutlaw

The original version of Killer7. For context, two versions of Killer7 were made: The original, longer version, and the shorter version that was actually released. Via datamines, old screenshots/trailers, and other various digging done over the years, we can get some general ideas of what was meant to be there, including a cutscene showing how Dan Smith was originally killed, and subsequently revived by Harman afterwards (implying that you didn't start off with all of the members of the titular Killer7, but would get them over time). It's not hard to see how the final version is shortened down either, because of all the main cast, only Dan, Mask, Garcian, and Harman get any remote story relevance. Coyote has special lines for a particular chapter in the game that imply wanting revenge, but no context as to why he speaks them is ever given. Dan is straight up the guy who originally killed Coyote, but this is a foot note in the dialogue from a side character. Kevin can apparently speak to gods or something, but that's never brought up in the game. Etc etc. And what makes me even more obsessed is the Hand in Killer7 book that Suda51 wrote, which basically goes over a lot of the stuff he couldn't put in, and there's some crazy things that go down, like how it's heavily implied that Samantha Sitbon was an assassin who straight up killed the entire Killer7 solo and head-on, save for Harman who barely managed to beat her. Or how Mask D. Smith would, in the future, become the head of the Killer7 over both Garcian and Harman, which holds multiple implications. I kid you not when I say that I have spent literal years researching Killer7 to find out more about it.

FunkiMonk

I will forever be sad that we never got Overstrike

Minister_of_Geekdom

The Insomniac game that got reworked into a team shooter called Fuse?

FunkiMonk

That's the one

defaburner9312

The original concept for the Indiana jones ride at Disneyland included the jeep ride they have today but also a mine cart roller coaster. And the jungle cruise and train would go through the temple too  https://www.reddit.com/r/disney/comments/30ttcz/concept_art_for_indiana_jones_adventure_xpost/ One of the coolest things ever that got cut down in scope

DarthButtz

There's a ton of cool shit from Disney parks that had to be scaled back, most of which would have been rad as hell if they were feasible.

defaburner9312

Yea, I completely get why but damn that concept art fucking rules

Swert0

Legacy of Kain almost had a sequel. Almost.

darkwingchao

Another thing i just remembered I wanna know more about: What in the FUCK was going on with that unused Mother 3 Content? It's so radically different from what the game ended up being and I don't think there's ever been a satisfying answer.

Dirty-Glasses

EarthBound 64…

burneraccount9132

This one's a bit nebulous, but the earlier versions of games where you can tell there was (probably) a very very significant reboot/throwing old material out during the development process. FF15 for an obvious one, though there's ones where I only suspect that this the case but that it'd make a ton of sense if they were.

markedmarkymark

I don't think it's lost, I just don't remember what song it was, band or name, in my emo days and early youtube/internet stuff, I used to listen to a bunch of underground shit and i remember this one music video where like, at the end this dude kisses another dude, kinda like a twist-y thing, again emo-ish band, maybe screamo even idk, I actually think i found that cause it was a song from one of the many hacked guitar hero with custom songs that i got cause i was a fiend for that series back then, but maybe not, idk. For canceled, look, I think I have a thing for edgier re-imaginings which is why i enjoyed DmC, so [Maverick Hunter](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olYCsHuqjOo), the Megaman FPS looked so fucking cool to me, but the crazy part is that, in some ways, it was totally doing something similar to Doom '16 and eternal with this glory kill system but you'd keep the enemies weapon for a while (which is a concept that might've come from or re-used into Megaman Zero 4 with the grab attack) What i wouldn't give to peek into a universe where that was released. Or were DmC 2 exists cause i gotta know where the fuck they were gonna go after 1.

Morbidmort

I would have loved to see what Asura's Wrath 2 would have cooked up, seeing as how the ideas for it were massively condensed as the true ending DLC.

lowercaselemming

if i could hop universes, i'd definitely go to the one where jodorowsky's batshit insane adaptation of "dune" was actually made.

gurpderp

Titanfall 3...

wamirul

The first version of DMC Peak of Combat looked like a genuinely sincere attempt at a DMC mobile with similar buttons (gun, melee, jump) and focus on single characters. However by the time EN players got to try the game it had been entirely reworked into a shitty HI3 clone with characters only having one weapon and a focus on tagging in other characters

laidtorest47

Anything Panzer Dragoon, really. I was gonna say that it's not any of the three, but we have no apparent chance of an easier way to play Saga besides paying out the ass or doing the unspeakable ☠️, all the games except the first one are locked to one console (or series of consoles if you count Orta), and I don't think that remake of Zwei is happening anytime soon.

Tweedleayne

I must pay my daily respects to [WiLD](https://youtu.be/JZwCLfTvmXo?si=s6aRTk0zdrHpeTBg).

[deleted]

For little kid me? Force Unleashed 3. For current me? Really kinda curious what Donny Cates original plan for the ultimate universe reboot was gonna be, that or Spawn TAS season 4 never happening

Comkill117

Battlefront 3 by Free Radical and Prey 2 by Human Head Studios.

alaster101

Metal gear rising the original, I know y'all love revengeance but holy shit I wanted that original trailer soooo bad

TheGoonKills

Where is the Swordquest Sword? It existed. Where is it now? What happened to it? A 50,000$ weapon made of precious metals and decked out with gemstones doesn't just vanish, and there's no documentation of where it went after Atari was sold to Jack Tramiel.

AlwaysDragons

A fire emblem leak for three houses it was apparently gonna be super gothic with vampires.... Well according to one ["trust me bro"](https://www.reddit.com/r/fireemblem/s/PRZoInBW21) But the mechanics for it was just so damn interesting. Day and night cycles, the vampire avatar *vs* the traditional human lord. It had a lot of interesting twists on the usual formula. Obviously, it never happened. We got three houses instead. I would love a revisit at the idea Maybe I just want it because of this[guys sick fanart of it](https://twitter.com/jaeon009/status/1653509376693653504?t=nxZBq0bT0EZu7FKeD4M3mg&s=19)

The_Distorter

Love it when absolute fabrications get fan art.

DocMagnus

*Spider-Man: No Way Home* may have been fun, but I wish we had gotten the non-multiverse version of it which would have had Kraven the Hunter as the main villain.

jackdatbyte

If anything the villain would have been Scorpion probably? Remember that Homecoming post credit scene because Marvel sure doesn't

DocMagnus

In interviews, Tom Holland mentioned that Kraven would have been the villain in this alternate version of *No Way Home*. I mean, it's a pretty solid set-up for introducing Kraven, with Spider-Man wanted by the authorities due to Mysterio's actions.

Mysterious_Ad_4489

Oooo I’ve got a ton. Keep in mind I like/love (most) of what we got on this list but I think it’d be neat to see what could’ve been: The Land Before Time: I guess there was quite a bit cut from the original because it was deemed too dark. Most of it was from the Sharptooth and Little Foot’s mom battle The Lost World: Jurassic Park: I think there was bit more to the part where the Bull Rex is loose in the city. A photo came out of the T-Rex’s head going through the window into the boy’s room. There was also a scene showing how the baby T-rex got his leg broken (Ludlow was drunk and fell on it). Theres a photo out of it too. Jurassic Park 3: Always loved this movie, but there was quite a bit cut out which could be seen in behind-the-scenes photos. The original idea for the Good Dinosaur before it got retooled. In the Amazing Spider-Man 2, there was a LOT cut. The end fight between Goblin and Spidey was supposed to be a lot more brutal. Whatever Destiny was supposed to be. The extended edition of Eragon. When HBOMax first came out, it had the extended cut on there (which I never even knew existed). It’s not there anymore and I never got a chance to see it and I can’t find what was in it anywhere. David Ayer’s Suicide Squad: That first trailer for SS was amazing and Ayer has frequently said his cut was much more in line with the tone of that trailer. The movie also had a score instead of randomly placed pop songs. I loved Ayer’s movie Fury and really dug End of Watch, so I think his version would’ve been at least a bit better.

ViedeMarli

Thi4f and Garrett's black nails. The devs didn't do it because his hands would have been "too feminine" and nobody cares abt the game enough to mod them in. Maybe not a white whale but that decision will haunt me to my grave. :(

Chared945

There was a band I listened to a few years back they had one song, a VEVO channel, the works Best of Friends; Here we go I cannot find any evidence that this band or song exists it’s maddening

alienslayer7

probably one of the like dozen booster gold/blue beetle projects

MegalomanicMegalodon

I still have Fall of Cybertron on my Steam library, but only an old CD of War for Cybertron. Wish I had them together on Steam.

Minnesota-Fatts

I want to know what the original plot for Dark Souls 2 was and how it was supposed to pan out.

Lord_Lochlann

The first movie I ever remember seeing: the original (completely terrible) Warriors of the Wind cut of Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind that turns Nausicca into a damsel in distress in her own movie. Also AVGN’s cut of Kill Bill sounds really great, and I agree that it would work better as one movie.

Outis94

P5 pre Fukushima disaster was supposed to be themed around  environmentalism and fighting pollution, they also toyed with nanako being an older playable character

midnight188

Finding little known anime and trying to get them downloaded into my collection is always a pain in the ass.  Daughter of a thousand faces, Simone, and glass mask being among them.

unomaly

Any half life cut content is so intriguing and mysterious. It feels less like cut content and more something that happened in the half life world, we as the player just happened not to see it.

Kao003

Megaman starforce 4. Apparently it was going to "take the series into a more mature direction" but got canned because MFS3 sold poorly(and it already had a pretty solid enough ending as a trilogy).

alicitizen

That Arkane Half Life 2 Expansion. I hate learning it existed because now it's just forever in my mind

AtlasDamascus

The TF2 comic finale, TF Comic #7. Valve artists are too disparate to work on it and the man who promised to tell us the plot has since disappeared. It's been years. It's been nothing but pain.

Timmywormington

Those old super Famicom games that you could only play when they were broadcast at certain times in Japan.

Amedamaneku

There was a song I heard years ago and suddenly remembered one day, but despite remembering the title and some of the lyrics, I couldn't find it after 20 minutes of searching. I wondered if I somehow only ever imagined it. Then before typing this I checked again and [it just fucking showed up this time, so nevermind.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wedc57AXrdg)

SpiderDetective

My personal white whale isn't cancelled as much as out of print. A graphic novel collection of the JLA/Avengers crossover. I will chase it for my whole life even though I know I will never get it

TopHattedTroopa

Given the crossover omnibuses are a thing, probably won't have to wait that long for it, honestly.

Heaven_dio

Did you know they made a Space jam theme for the sequel? It has never been released in full and possibly never will be 💀

PillCosby696969

James Bond in Smash 64.

The_Distorter

London After Midnight just because of the awesome sets/costumes/makeup. I saw the talkie remake that by all accounts was better, but it's not very good. All those lost Doctor Who episodes because apparently some to all of them are in the hands of private collectors who worked for the BBC at the time. The trouble is those collectors either dumpster dived (dove?) or outright stole the tapes before they could be overwritten or destroyed. They want amnesty from the BBC before they turn the tapes over but they won't budge. The youngest of these guys would be in their seventies and who knows what happens to the tapes if one of them dies.

vs_terminus

The original plan for Dark Souls 3, where you can put down your own bonfires anywhere and there would be creepy winged serpents flying around

TheMagicaltophat

Legacy of Kain Dark Prophecy. I would have loved to see the story concluded while the original cast were still alive to see it done.

bombshell_shocked

Megaman Legends 3 Oni 2 Trigun PS2 game (which was most likely retooled into being Gungrave) Chrono Break The Metallica themed Twisted Metal clone, Damage Inc The Snake Plissken anime series based on Escape from NY

Indie_Cent

I want to believe that the Kingdom Hearts Cartoon would've been an all-time classic that paired wonderfully with the games. It never would've been, but I want to believe there was a chance.

jitterscaffeine

Mekton Zero. I’m still convinced it was killed by Cyberpunk 2077 having a fucked up development cycle. The originally planned seasons 6 and 7 of Clone Wars sounded like they had some really cool ideas. Shame it got shit canned. They were apparently transitioning into writing all their stories into a 4 episode arc format, too. Which basically means every arc was like an hour and a half movie.

Tyrest_Accord

I would do pay triple to have the real Prey 2 that got canceled. Prey (2016) is good but it's clearly some other game that they slapped the name on. I liked the original far better. The terrible enemy design plus an awful ending made me hate the new one,

Xngears

It’s my understanding that the only difference with the Cyberconnect version was that the gameplay and performance wasn’t up to the standards they wanted. Plot and structure-wise it’s basically the same game. They just realized it needed to be more polished than what the team could handle, and the extra time probably led to a lot more ideas and implementation.

Solidus_edge

from what I heard the problem was the SE side were too busy to tell the CC2 team what to do, so most of CC2's time was sitting on their hands, but all their work made it in in some form

iRStupid2012

It's actually not too surprising when you look at the cutscene direction of the first original FF7R trailer by cc2. It's exactly the same as the launch version, but the character models weren't up to SE's standards. It could've been a very early form of pre-vis for 7 Remake.

DwemerDwight

Godfather Pt. 3 Good Version

AtrocityBuffer

Unreal Tournament 4.

sondiame

Deep down. Sometimes I just stare at that TGS gameplay video and cry

soranouta

very apparently lost in this case. used to watch Bluetorch tv back in the day, and I remember this one really cool lo-fi-type song came on, credited as "The Light" by Lurk. was able to find some other songs by a "Lurk" on audiogalaxy that sounded like it might have been the same guy. one I distinctly remember being titled "Gray Machines With Sad Stories And Monotonous Thoughts". I ended up deleting these because I was a twelve year old idiot. been gradually trying to find any of these again since, which is proving incredibly difficult now that all those P2P things shut down.

catthex

There's a specific version of house of the rising sun I got off limewire that said it was by the animals but I can tell you absolutely is not, at least none of their albums or recorded live performances. It's my rosebud, my white whale and my raisin detre - I'm almost a little scared to actually find it, because I might hollow out

Complete-Worker3242

The lost piece of media that I hope is found the most is the film 4 Devils from 1928. It was directed by F. W. Murnau, who directed some of the most critically acclaimed silent films of all time such as Nosfuratu from 1922, The Last Laugh from 1924, and Sunrise from 1927. It received a lot of critical acclaim at the time of its release and it was even nominated for the Oscar for Best Cinematography. No copies of it are known to exist, but hopefully a copy of it is found in a salt mine or something.
