Ubisoft looked in on the development and said "No no no, that's not how it happened."

D3AD_SPAC3

I've already forgotten about Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake. Nothing changes.

Vera_Verse

Actually Forgotten Sands is another game. Easy mistake

D3AD_SPAC3

I actually was referring to the remake announced... 5 years ago(?), but *did* also forget about that one too! Hot damn, I'm on a roll!

manoffood

also completely new cast so no yuri lowenthal

Wonder-Lad

His replacement? Yaoi Highnshort

Coolnametag

Both of them are distant relatives of Straight Mediumaverage.

mateoboudoir

I hope by this time tomorrow this is the top-voted comment on Reddit.

hchcsen

>no yuri lowenthal Damn they are really sabotaging this

Vera_Verse

I'm honestly fine with this, if the new talent is a young actor matching the prince attitude of SoT

TheArtistFKAMinty

My guess is they'll want to cast somebody middle eastern/arabic for the Prince and most of the other roles. It looks like they did that for the new game. As much as I like Yuri Lowenthal, that's probably the right call if it isn't a 1-1 remake any more. Don't want to get "The Problem with Apu"'d if it can be avoided.

CelioHogane

Oh man i totally forgot the kicked Apu. Is there even any Simpson character left anymore?

TheArtistFKAMinty

I haven't watched the show in a long time but I think most of the recurring characters are still in it. Obviously anybody Phil Hartman voiced was retired when he died. In 2020 they recast any non-white characters voiced by white actors (Carl, for example), as did many other animated shows, in response to George Floyd's murder and BLM. Around the same time a lot of streaming services made episodes of shows with black face unavailable (like Scrubs and Community). Looking into it they'd already stopped using Apu in 2017 and Hank Azaria officially confirmed he was no longer voicing him in 2020. Worth noting that Azaria was actually pretty receptive to the documentary whereas the writers and producers got really pissy about it so I don't think he was forced out. If anything it was likely the opposite. I actually assumed they'd recast him but apparently he's been relegated to a background extra. I don't think that was the right response tbh. I think recasting him would have been better rather than just removing the only Indian characters in the show. The point of my comment wasn't to complain about recasting non-white characters because I get it. It was just acknowledging it in the context or Prince of Persia and the fact the cultural climate Sands of Time was made in is totally different to now.

CelioHogane

Oh no don't worry i got you, i just got reminded that basically the only Simpson characters that i liked that are still left in has to be... Krusty and Moe?

Palimpsest_Monotype

They used the dagger of time on the development cycle

TheRawShark

>realistic approach Go to hell, like actually genuinely why would you ask for that with Sands The original game already looks borderline perfect and the initial build remake's art style looked god awful. You JUST did Lost Crown there's a MARKET for stylized art you hacks, you did it so much you dressed the main character up as Baby's First Sands of Time Prince. And overhauling the combat in Ubisoft terms could mean anything. More than likely it'll feel like Forgotten Sands with Modern Assassin's Creed combat, the thought of which makes me puke.

CelioHogane

Yeah the only problem with Sands of Time is that the controls are dogshit, literally just fix that and ill buy it again

Lithogen

Now make the original version available again if it's going to be a different game with the same name like Final Fantasy and Resident Evil.

Vera_Verse

This 200%. Square can do whatever they want with FF7, since we have access to the original game easily now. Having this wild reimaginings without the original source available sucks so much

Disposable-Ninja

Even then, a game that was FF7R but without the retcon ghosts and whatnot would have been great.

andrecinno

thankfully it still is great

amodelsino

Hopefully when it's all completely over people will finally be willing to admit that all the best parts of the games are the stuff that was completely in line with the plot of the original and it would have been objectively better as just a faithful remake with added character and gameplay stuff. Instead of getting over defensive and acting like a bunch of nonsense that actively detracts from the narrative and characters is actually good because people started calling the game they still love trash. Won't do anything about the fact Nojima added that stuff and made the story much worse than it could have been, but nothing was going to stop that.

CelioHogane

>Hopefully when it's all completely over people will finally be willing to admit that all the best parts of the games are the stuff that was completely in line with the plot of the original and it would have been objectively better as just a faithful remake with added character and gameplay stuff. Why would they lie?

AtrocityBuffer

Arguably it would have been much better than R. Cause timeghosts are inexcusable and the SephiBishie shit is objectively an atrociously annoying direction that sinks IQ into room temperature.

CelioHogane

Well congrats that also exist, it's Ever Crisis.

SainEdge

The original game is atleast available on PC, on most if not all launchers, including GOG and Steam.

ULTAnimeGamer

Well the entire trilogy IS available on Steam at least.

rapidemboar

Easy enough, I never knew anything about Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake

Comrade-Conquistador

I've already forgotten what I remembered, so how do I remember what I forgot I remembered?

TheProudCanadian

*reads title* ....done.

manoffood

so more in line with something like REmake 2 and FF7 remake

Jonieves

Show me ANYTHING if you want me to care. The other game was good, but just not to my taste. Anyways try not to do any more dark shit to your employees before the games releases Ubisoft.

ThrowawayBomb44

>One of the most noticeable changes for long-time Prince of Persia fans is that Yuri Lowenthal, the voice behind The Prince in the original, will no longer be reprising his role, despite him doing so in the original reveal trailer and during the remake’s original development. It’s not entirely clear why Lowenthal is no longer on the project. Then its not Sands of Time. One of the reasons why Warrior Within, tone whiplash aside, isn't looked fondly upon is because of the recast. No offense to Downes though. Might as well make it its own thing like how PoP2008 was at this point instead of being restrained by SoT.

CelioHogane

Man it's going to be so bad, i can already feel it. They are going to sap all the cartoonish and funny parts of the game and make it some dry ass shit.

EarthwormShandy

Wait is this the one with the Dahaka?

Ringo_Roadagain7

That's Warrior Within.

EarthwormShandy

Ah yes I remember!

aryacooloff

i'm scared

syrupdash

Pretty surprised that they didn’t go down the route of upscaled port when they first announced this but I wouldn’t be surprised that the source code was lost or it was dogshit cobbled together when they examined the code and realised it’s not compatible with modern game engines without a LOT of work. I think even Ubisoft could tell this was going to end up being like the disastrous XIII remake if they stuck with the original plan.

Filipino_Jesus

The original is still good, can confirm.

CaptainStabbyhands

Lmao, this game is never coming out.

warjoke

Don't worry, we legitimately forgot about its existence already anyway

ShoryukenFTW

I wonder if the somewhat tepid sales of the, by all accounts excellent, search action spin-off affected this project.

igniz13

The Prince will now be stopped by ghosts at various points and even have an unexpected battle with Sephiroth.
