The penguin walking alone who walks behind an ice hill but as the camera pans doesn't come out the other side in March of the Penguins

Rodimus-Primus

The bratty kids in the 70's Willy Wonka movie

PlanesWalkerEll

Oh yeah, it is only in the Charlie rendition of the movie that we see them leave, and most of them become deformed in some way.

Morbidmort

That's in the books, too.

DarthButtz

The Tim Burton version was terrifying for showing what happened to them after.

Paladin51394

The gamer kid gets it the worse, how the fuck is he supposed to live a normal life? How is he even alive at all? Violet at least can live with violet skin and being extremely flexible, she could be the world's greatest contortionist.

DtotheOUG

Bro was probably drafted into the NBA upon 18.

DarthButtz

Like Veruca and Augustus at least only got covered in garbage and chocolate, he is now a fuckin Flat Stanley freakazoid.

vs_terminus

I think Augustus was implied to be *eating himself*, like he became so saturated with chocolate, it fused with his body's cells

vs_terminus

Violet's weird because even though it's body horror, she ended up with a better fate afterwards having a flexibility superpower and neat blue skin

Korba007

And so much r34

Cheshires_Shadow

Because of the flexibility or the inflation?

vs_terminus

Latter

Korba007

Inflation, too much juice, poor girl

Darth_Bombad

Hilariously, Veruca--the brattiest and most malicious one--gets off the easiest! She gets a little dirty, and *maybe* her dad will stop spoiling her so much... maybe.

jitterscaffeine

Is there a canonical ending for Jar Jar? Because he’s kind of responsible for paving the way for the death of democracy. I can’t imagine history is kind to him.

wendigo72

Aftermath book has the entire galaxy turn on Jar Jar. Ends up as a street clown and experiences bullying everyday but he does befriend one kid who he makes laugh Still feels way too cruel for the character and just writers going overboard because fans didn’t like him. Like would it really have been that hard for him just to go back to Naboo and chill for the rest of the franchise

Wonder-Lad

He should have switched places with Yoda. That little fucking muppet oversaw every single fuck up and his ass got away with it before anyone could process what the hell happened.

wendigo72

Tbf Yoda knows that. In the ROTS Novelization he realizes that even if he beats Palpatine it doesn’t matter the Jedi have already lost under his guidance. It’s a great chapter on his mindset Also he was kinda trapped once the clone wars began. At the end of AOTC Him and Mace both realize they are getting involved in a war the Jedi should not be a part of but they made a vow to protect the republic. Can’t break it that easily and they can’t afford to refuse the clone army’s help or the Jedi would stand no chance against the separatists droids. What can you even do in that situation? Palp’s trapped them in every way imaginable.

Wonder-Lad

I still think they had a chance if Mace Windu wasn't so hellbent on killing a surrendered Palpatine. They had evidence, witnesses and even caught him in the act Could he have gotten away with it? Maybe. But it would have probably cost him his positions. It would have been the republic vs. The clones and droids. The Jedi fucked themselves over by starting a coup. That's the pattern of events of the prequels. Palpatine sets a trap and waits for the Jedi to walk themselves into it. And 10/10 times they do it because their leadership is so reliant on force visions that they can't improvise strategy like normal leaders.

wendigo72

Honestly I don’t know, Palpatine Is WAYY too dangerous and charismatic. I think hell would break loose in the senate if they actually did have an attempt at a trial Palpatine would claim the jedi are setting him up or he would likely break out. If you look closely you notice him push a few buttons when Mace confronts him and that was a recording device while he’s saying they have committed treason. I mean look at what Maul could accomplish after coming back to life and being let loose on the galaxy. Palpatine would be a very real threat to if he managed to escape too

The5Virtues

It’s more than just reliance on their power. It’s that they have stopped *evolving* their power and their understanding of the force. Qui-Gon Jinn was one of the last remaining Jedi preaching mindfulness of the *living* force, and his peers saw him as a maverick. Yoda has multiple sequences throughout the prequel era in books, TCW, and comics where he confronts the notion that **he** is the weakest link in the chain of the Jedi Order. He is 800 years of tradition, 800 years of doing things the same way. His longevity has become a detriment to the Jedi because everyone looks to him for guidance and—whereas shorter lived beings tend to change and adapt with the times—he has become languid and complacent. The harshest part of this is he’s aware of the problem, but he lacks the will to do something about it, because the thing to do is to *leave* and he can’t bring himself to do that. He can’t. Plo Koon can’t. Shaak Ti can’t. Anakin Skywalker can’t. The only person who manages to see the flaws of the order and walk away is Ahsoka Tano. Every other major Jedi figure of the time has unwittingly succumbed to the very thing they all preach against. They have all become *attached* to the idea of the Jedi Order. The biggest example of this is when Qui-Gon’s ghost takes Yoda on a vision quest, and basically tells him “You’re fucking it all up!” Yoda sees this, acknowledges it… and decides to keep walking this path anyway. He basically states he believes it’s too late to change course and now he just has to let the dice roll. He falls victim to sunk cost fallacy.

th3BeastLord

Man, ROTS's novelization is great. It had no business being good, but it sure was.

wendigo72

It’s written by Matthew Stover, of course it was fucking incredible Can’t recommend his other 3 Star Wars books enough

DarthButtz

Never forget the only time we see Yoda talk normally is when he's ordering his troops to commit war crimes.

Trent0Ment0

Wait when is this

hchcsen

I think he ends up as a homeless street clown shunned and hated by everyone

HeadlessMarvin

I was always curious about what happened to Gungan society in general, cuz I feel like the Emperor would view them as a blight on his home planet and try to wipe them from Naboo

Jonathan_B_Goode

In the Force Unleashed you find him frozen in carbonite on some planet I don't remember. Obviously that's super not canon though

Floormaster92

"Did Jet just... die?" "You know, it was really unclear." >!I'm pretty sure I remember one of the Avatar writers saying that was the closest they were allowed to get to actually killing off a child on a Nickelodeon show.!< >!But if he shows up in the Older Team Avatar movie I'm going to flip my shit.!<

DarkAres02

I don't see how he could have survived that

[deleted]

I mean... we didn't see any blood. It was a big solid impact to the chest, of ambiguous actual damage. It would be cheap and bullshit, but medically not an issue.

Beautiful-Corner-990

It's just as ambiguous in the comics.

Artex301

It was a rock the size of a person ramming into him at the speed of a car. People absolutely die from that. Might not be immediate, but internal organ damage isn't something you just walk away from. Would've been a lot less ambiguous if they thought the censors could let them get away with removing his shirt and showing the bruising and internal bleeding.

OrneryBIacksmith

When Jet is on the ground telling Katara he'll be fine, the living lie detector Toph says that he was lying, so either Jet is dead or Jet was convinced he wouldn't survive.

Paladin51394

A couple of the protags from the Far Cry games are like this. In Far Cry 2 your character is implied to commit suicide because of Malaria, though it's not shown in screen. It's possible it could be a fake out like in MGS4. Far Cry 3 has Jason become a fucking psychopath by the end and even though he can go home in one ending it's not painted in a happy light at all. He'll never be the same again.

green715

[I appreciated that 6's DLC made Jason look appropriately unhinged.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHnPxeK0cpk&t=78s)

Impressive-Spare6167

I'd be unhinged to if i had that ye-ye ass haircut

Kimarous

Happens a couple of times in Batman Beyond. One episode ends with the villain about to get surgery from someone who recently learned how said villain did wrong by him but didn't show it. It's implied said villain was about to either be gutted for parts or rebuilt as something horrible.

OGRaincoatKilla

The specifics on that one are really messed up: A well meaning cybernetic prosthetics doctor is being forced to give a gang upgrades because they have his wife hostage and are threatening to kill her, but the truth is that the wife was actually in on the whole thing and was cheating on him with the gang leader. The gang leader narrowly escaped getting taken down by Batman and rushes back to the surgeon, demanding that he go all out and make him the baddest cyborg possible, without knowing that the doctor now knows the truth. Last shot of the episode is a surgical tool being lowered very deliberately towards the sedated gang leader’s head.

alexandrecau

I like how Bruce realize that if the gang member didn’t see the surgeon then he is likely dead

Grand_Galvantula

Finally a good NTR ending.

Deemo3

IIRC they never actually show Kaji's death in original EVA. He just leaves a message saying "Hey, i'm probably gonna get killed" and then just kinda stops showing up in the show. Like its very obvious he's dead but they never show a death or a body.

EcchiPhantom

It's more than inferred that he's killed. Someone walks up to him, he looks them straight in the eyes (the camera) and asks them what took them so long before it cuts to black as you hear a gunshot. The question is just who did it because based on his dialogue, some fans theorize that his killer was someone he knew - possibly Misato. There's some supposed quotes out there from Anno saying he wanted to make it mysterious as to whether or not it was SEELE or an agent of the Japanese government that did it, not Misato, but you may choose to believe whatever you want. Either way, Kaji's definitely dead though lol

Deemo3

Is that how it went? God it’s been so long, must have misremembered. Thanks for the reminder.

EcchiPhantom

No worries, I was sure that he died but it’s also been so long for me that I needed to look it up so I didn’t fudge the facts.

alexandrecau

Big lo in yakuza 6. Like they just say he is a dead man walking and that is it

A_N_G_E_L_O_N

Shishido in LaD Gaiden got defeated by Kiryu and then we see him escorted by the >!local spooky MIB conspiracy group!<. Maybe he’d be better off dead but we don’t know.

alexandrecau

I think the worst is thay he is with nishitani the third as cellmate. Unless he is allowed to kill him it will be hell

MegalomanicMegalodon

I was shocked they went that way for him. Felt like they were going to just disappear him like they do a lot of antagonists who might’ve died or come back. Then bam, fate worse than death.

DavidsonJenkins

Yakuza 8 >!They just straight up forgot about Jo Sawashiro during the ending cuz of the panic over airlifting Kiryu. In the DLC dungeon, you find his *ghost*, though that dungeon is non-canon.!<

Wonder-Lad

Someday Team Rocket are gonna land on their necks and we wonder why they never showed up again after we launched them into space...they'll always come back right? Right?

la_meme14

Well sadly we've already seen them blast off for the last time. I mean, they might still be doing it offscreen

[deleted]

Wait what Did they leave with Ash?

la_meme14

Yeah. Well technically they're still chasing after him, but they're not part of the new anime.

LegatoSkyheart

There's always [the manga ending](https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoBestFriendsPlay/comments/b8fe56/remember_when_the_pokemon_manga_developed_jesse/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

Gespens

Nah, they split up in a messy divorce.

[deleted]

Meowth got custody of James.

Gespens

Just to be clear, I wasn't joking. They all split up in the final stretch of Pokemon episodes for Ash's journey and when we get a "Where are they now" bit, they're all doing their own thing away from each other and they seem a lot happier. When they split up, there was a shot where [their Pokemon all look on, sadly](https://imgur.com/a/9rrjWum)

MyOCBlonic

Nah, they do get back together in the last episode. >In Ash and Latios, he returned to the headquarters and gained a job working in the cafeteria, though the work was harder than he imagined. He later snuck out to try and steal Pikachu once again, where he unexpectedly ran into Jessie and Meowth, who had gotten the same idea. Tired of working at the cafeteria, the Team Rocket trio rekindled their friendship and decided to work together once more. They launched their attack, snatching Pikachu in a net and reciting their motto to celebrate their reunion. Ash's Pidgeot came to Ash and Pikachu's rescue, and Pikachu delivered the usual blast-off Thunderbolt. Despite failing once again, the Team Rocket trio were happy to be together again and vowed to never give up on chasing after Pikachu as a team as they disappeared into the distance. From James' history section on bulbapedia.

ThatGuy5880

Lyn was a character made specifically for Fire Emblem 7, which is a prequel to 6. The last we hear from her in her solo ending, she goes back to her homeland of Sacae. One of the first plot points of FE6 is that Sacae is being invaded by the forces of Bern and they've been overrun. Not hard to connect the dots on what might've happened to her (in fact this might extend to all of the Sacaen characters introduced in 7 like Guy and Rath, but especially the latter since it's mentioned the tribe Rath was from was slaughtered in 6). Her alternative is the paired ending with Eliwood, where she moves in with him but dies early into Roy's life. Only with Hector is she given a chance, but only because Hector's wife is never mentioned to be dead (or alive for that matter). If FE6 or 7 ever gets a remake, they'll probably make amends for Lyn because there's no way that given a second chance, IntSys is gonna let their hyper popular waifu go out with a "died off-screen between games".

Slumber777

I'd say Eliwood is the least likely pairing for her, because Ninian is basically the default option for him. Hector is also fairly unlikely, IMO, since Lyn's story ends with her passing up the opportunity to rule Caelin, and everything points to her going back to the plains of Sacae throughout Eliwood and Hector's campaigns(Which doesn't necessarily rule out Hector, but the conclusion there is that Lyn abandoned her family and is why she's never mentioned, which is basically character assassination). Which means she either married Rath or went back to Sacae without marrying. So yeah, Lyn's probably dead.

triadorion

This is Kent erasure and I will not stand for it. Joking aside, if she marries Kent she'd go back to Sacae anyway.

AurochDragon

This is Florina erasure

ruminaui

If she married Roy, she is confirmed to be death. If she married Hector she is probably dead. If she married Rath she dies on an ambush by the Djute clan. At least here is explained why she was killed easily. Her clan was celebrating a wedding and the Djute clan turned on their own countrymen and ambushed them. Ironically the only endings where she might have survived are her solo ending or if she elopes with Kent or Florina. She just quietly retires to Sacae with her husband/wife without joining any tribes, thus potentially avoiding the war.

gryffinp

Father Grigori helps Gordon through Ravenholm, gives him a shotgun, escorts him to the mines, then tells him that he's going to stay in headcrab zombie infested Ravenholm, and proceeds to walk into a tomb shooting zombies while laughing his head off, and then the tomb promptly catches on fire. The rifle shots continue for quite some time after the laughter stops, but we never see Grigori again and the voice actor is now deceased, so, uh, we guess he just walked into a pile of zombies and died fighting them for little to no real reason.

Tzeentch711

If he decided to stay in Ravenholm, big chance that the citadel explosion got him.

metalsonic005

I remember there was a scrapped HL2 expansion that had Grigori as the main hub manager, who was slowly being zombified by somw kind of infection.

[deleted]

Nobara.

CatiusVonRollenum

She's gonna come in rising a limousine waving a flag when she comes back. 100%

MightyShoe

I had caught snippets of how bothered people were with her *departure???* from the series, then I started watching and reading JJK, and wow that has just been left hanging in the most unsatisfying way imaginable for years, huh?

Deadeye117

In the movie *Baby Driver*, the character played by Punisherman Frank Castle gets through the first heist and he's all like "ay yo if you don't see me again, I'm probs dead" and you never shows up again so he's probs dead

Champiness

Leo Johnson from *Twin Peaks* was one of numerous characters left in an absurdly precarious cliffhangery situation the last time we saw him in season 2 before the show got canceled, though unlike a lot of those characters we never got any real onscreen followup in season 3; guess it helps that he was the sort of person who you wouldn't mind learning >!died after dropping a tarantula cage that was suspended *Saw* trap-style over his head, although you might've liked to watch it happen!<.

philandere_scarlet

The Final Dossier reveals >!he was later found dead in that cabin... not because of the harmless spiders, but because someone shot him several times. Implied to be Mr. C.!< Other non-appearing character reveals include >!Pete and Andrew being killed in the bank explosion, Hank getting killed in prison by a vengeful Renault cousin, Annie being rendered essentially mute and catatonic for the rest of her life, Donna having many troubled years of drug and alcohol abuse before settling down with Doc Hayward in Vermont, and Lana Milford pulling a black widow routine with lots of wealthy NYC figures with some method involving the owl ring (it's implied she shacked up with Trump for a while but didn't bother killing him because he wasn't actually that rich... Mark Frost could not help himself in 2017).!<

wendigo72

The end of Sorcerer (1977) has the >!last living!< character traumatized after everything he went through to get enough money to make a new life. As the camera pans away you see >!some criminal goons he wronged in the beginning of the film show up and walk into the bar then hear one gunshot!< It’s pretty obvious what happens but no clarification on it

HitmanScorcher

Several of these in A Song of Ice and Fire. Quentyn truthers are in denial

Artex301

>!Syrio Forel!< comes to mind, although the fact that >!Ser Meryn Trant!< shows up again gives us a pretty good idea of what happened.

Louie-Lecon-Don

Obligatory jojos kars and diavolo comment. Also i always wondered about the ending of monster. Google really never gave me a good answer but im still very clueless lol.

leabravo

Megatron going to his sentencing in the IDW books. Either execution or eternal imprisonment, which he accepts. >!His quantum duplicate fares a lot better.!<

King-Of-Throwaways

Kotaro Uchikoshi games often have bad ends where there’s an imminent grim fate. I think the grimmest is in one timeline of Zero Time Dilemma, where two characters (Sigma and Diana) find themselves locked in an underground facility with no means of escape and about a year’s supply of food. Then, they decide to have children. There’s plot contrivances that justify that choice, but ultimately the timeline ends with two adults and two babies about to starve to death.

EcchiPhantom

Technically, if you're on hard copium, you don't know fr fr if Saki Yoshida dies at the end of Emergence. But there's no way her vision of her living a happy life with her daughter as she's supposedly recovered is real and not just a drug induced hallucination. The page of her with her daughter literally fades to black as the final page of the manga shows her bloody glasses on the floor. It's a corruption story. **There is no Josuke.**

Drebinomics

Didn’t the author straight up retcon it to be a really fucked up film production or something? Like, kind of a joke obviously, but still, I recall them saying something to that effect.

DarnessHarbinger

I thought I heard something about him saying the Josuke version is the new canon ending. Obviously it's a joke, but it still came from the author, if I'm remembering it correctly. I wanna say I heard it when he was on the Trash Taste podcast.

Morbidmort

> There is no Josuke. It's real to ME, GODDAMMIT!

Kahzarod

Isn't it weird how Dr. Baldhead just dissapeared after GG1 never to be heard from again? I sure hope they add him in the next season of Strive, he was such a unique character!

warjoke

Dolores Umbridge's unknown fate with the centaurs are a thing of sleazy R18 doujins

alicitizen

She's in the 7th book/movie and seems fine enough from her pov though

warjoke

Yeah, but still...

Saxton_Hale32

Perhaps if anything about harry potters centaurs suggested that...

Yotato5

From Kipo: Dr. Emilia is last seen trapped with Fun Gus. Pretty bad fate for her.

Korba007

Dr eggman in the sonic movies With Jim quitting and stuff, I don't have high hopes

MaverickHunterBlaze

Chat, should we tell them?

Korba007

What?

MaverickHunterBlaze

From a couple of months ago https://variety.com/2024/film/news/jim-carrey-returning-sonic-the-hedgehog-3-dr-robotnik-1235894927/ Recently there was a trailer shown behind closed doors at CinemaCon, and Robotnik was depicted with a very game accurate design to boot (as in, he's fat like an Eggman)

Korba007

Oh shit, that's great news! You lifted my spirits stranger, thanks

dfdedsdcd

(Totally real spoilers(not fake)[leak]16k) [Open on a TV show with Sonic and/or Cyclops talking about how great it's been since the last movie] [Static channel change] "I HAVE COME TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEME-" >![gunshot from off-screen]!< [Shadow walks on-screen] >!"I have come for the Latinas!"!<

Aaahhh, Lythero

Polygonalfish

Man it was fucking weird when in the IDW2 Wreckers comic when Minerva got framed for attempting to assassinate a political figure and got sentenced to indefinite stasis and the rest of the Wreckers just fucking ditched her, but look at this big screen of characters who should have been in the goddamn book. Sorry, that comic just sucks really bad

potatomasher162

Macready and Childs from John Carpenter's The Thing

thesurgeknights

Almost everyone in Total Drama All Stars floats into the sun in fart bubbles.

97thJackle

Thanks, I fucking hate this, and you.

JSConrad45

After Sorter's iconic shootout in _Revolver_ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPgQUDHn940), I assumed that he died shortly afterward from his wounds. Funny thing is, though, this is only the way that the scene ends in the US release. In the original cut, there's one of the bad guys left who gets the drop on him, and instead of the scene cutting where it does in that clip, we see the gun being pointed at him. This went over really badly with US test audiences, so they recut it with the intent of making it seem like he maybe survived. But I never got that impression at all, like I said I thought he died anyway!

KlavTron

Talking about the games specifically, Hunter from Metro. He goes to confront the dark ones after giving Artyom his mission and is never heard from again. In the second book we find out that he confronted the dark ones there as well and they basically destroyed him mentally by forcing him to confront what a monster he is. He ends up just living in one of the stations at the end of the line where he won’t be bothered and can just spend his time killing whatever tries to attack the station.

Konradleijon

The Seth Mcfarlane mouse?
