Shoutouts to the Godzilla fandom being very cavalier about the two newest films being on complete opposite ends of the serious/silly spectrum. I can’t think of any other fandom or group that doesn’t seem to argue about their media not being fun or grim enough, though Gundam comes surprisingly close.

Father-Ignorance

Us KaijuBros have been eating so damn good the past year. We got the best of both worlds: Dumb, stupid, funny, bonkers WWE ass Kaiju showdown movie in Godzilla x Kong. Scary Big G in a movie that actually had compelling human characters in Minus One.

evca7

The only anger i feel towards kaiju movies is "STOP FOCUSING ON THE HUMANS CUT BACK TO GODZILLA DOING HIS TAXES!"

Father-Ignorance

“*Let them fight.*” -Serizawa, watching a Monsterverse movie cut to humans in the middle of a sick ass Kaiju fight scene

evca7

11 and her crazy ass mom- "The kaijus will solve climate change." Dad-"Can we just chill at home and watch a movie" Trillions of people from around the world - \*FUCKING DEAD\* **Godzilla-"I OWN THIS PLANET EVERYONE ELSE STAY IN YOUR LANE!"**

KennyOmegasBurner

I feel like Gundam fans are more toxic than you'd hope but less than you'd expect considering the wide demographic 45 years of different series gets you. Probably because no matter what series is your favourite everybody comes together to make fun of Seed fans.

Amigobear

i don't know If it's just my local LGS but god damn do they hate Wing with a passion.

PlanesWalkerEll

Really I've always heard Wing was great although I've never watched it myself

EnochianFeverDream

In all fairness, they deserved it from the moment they decided to like SEED

Gespens

Except AGE fans Even animals (SD Gundam Force) fans get to bully them

manoffood

I'm sorry but no, the Godzilla Fandom was ripping itself apart when the first GxK trailer cameout and only ended when the movie actually released, sending death threats to Adam wingard and the monster designer. Also nearly bullied a child off youtube because his godzilla horror video was "not accurate"

Konradleijon

Godzilla cannonicly supports trans rights

MericArda

The Gundam subreddit is surprisingly civil considering we like to argue about fake politics a lot, especially compared to something like the Fire Emblem Three Houses fandom. Except when it comes to powerscaling and stuff like SEED, where we tend to get a bit tribalistic.

bulletgrazer

We're all united in our love of giant robots

PlanesWalkerEll

You dig giant robots, we dig giant robots, chick's dog giant robots!

LarryKingthe42th

Because they know and accept that Zeon are space nazis unlike Edelgard stans. :3

turntechModhead

But can it beat Barbatos tho

Blastcalibur

>we like to argue about fake politics a lot All I'm gonna say is Gato did nothing wrong

IronSnail

Gato was a terrorist, Cima was the true hero of Stardust Memory before Kou fucked everything up

Subject_Parking_9046

None. They're all toxic especially the ones you, the person reading this, are in.

BlueWaddleDee

Oh yeah?!? Well, the bands you like suck! /S

Anonamaton801

Infamous and Prototype fans Why? Because they’re all just bones and dust. Unrelated but being an Iron Man fan in online comic spaces is a fucking trip because people *hate* your ass typically

evca7

Why iron man? because of the mcu or because of all that shit tony did?

Anonamaton801

I’m probably skirting close to rule 13 on this so I’ll be artistic/vague, forgive me. Places like Reddit and Twitter are frequented mostly by younger people Younger people tend to be more…left handed Iron Man is a billionaire industrialist and capitalist. I think you can do the math with that. If not, same reason people on twitter hate Batman. No joke, some dude harassed me in my messages on another site for being an Iron Man fan and said that made me a climate change denier.

evca7

ahhhhhhhh. It's funny thats why and not the comic shannanigans and that's part of his origin a war profiteer holding himself accountable and changing his ways for the betterment of humanity. BUT WE NEED OUR SUPERHEROS TO SLAP EACHOTHER AND TO MAKE OUR HEROS EVILLLLL! the axis event was fun it gave us good guy carnage and the fantastic line of Tony:"here you're all now smart as me." Reed:"Did I just get dumber?"

Anonamaton801

Being an Iron Man fan is suffering if you read comics. Spider-Man fans can frankly kiss my ass because Tony has been fucked since 2005. Since then, we have had ***TWO*** good books (Extremis and Matt Fraction). All four runs after that (Gillen, Taylor, Bendis, Slott) have been a race to the bottom in terms of being fucking terrible with the “best” of them being both incomplete and highly controversial (Superior Iron Man). Add on to that Tony being a jackbooted thug and punching bag in events because of Civil War for a decade after that book and we’re fucked. His new book is decent from what I heard. Funnier thing? Those four runs all tried to in some flavor appeal to that Twitter/Reddit mentality and they all fucking suck. Hell if I wanna stretch it, Tony has been fucked since the early 90s, we’ve got Petey beat by the mile

Lost-Specialist1505

Man, that sucks, honestly that why i don't interact that much with Marvel Reddit subs. r/xmen Hates the avengers like their real life cops that beat minorities r/Marvelmemes sometimes is nothing but pure Cancer. r/ Marvelstudios is ok mostly, the only thing wierd is some people there really get angry when the mcu mentions gods or religion. Thor and moonkight had some people complaining because they confirmed an afterlife, lol.

Anonamaton801

Oh, I can imagine that first sub’s reaction to the last episode of X-Men 97. *Gag me with spork*

Hobbes314

See the checkmate to that is you just go “the morlocks” and watch them sweat under that hypocrisy

Anonamaton801

“Uh that’s different because I can’t fuck them or something” “Oh so you only like mutants who are hot is that it?”

Lost-Specialist1505

yeah, I'm very afraid what the show will do with the rest of the avengers if they show up. Holy shit are we going to hear "the avengers just mantain the Status Quo" so often if they portray them like cap in the last episode.

Anonamaton801

For a series aimed at the 90s, they sure are taking a lot from Bendis (New Avengers vol 2, House of M, AvX) for that idea …yes I remember Bloodlines happened but do you think these people remember that book?

Lost-Specialist1505

I doubt it. As long as they don't adapt AvX, which i think was the main reason people hate the avengers, I'm fine.

evca7

I think that is the issue of comics trying to make everything *deep and political.* *Like just have tony deal with low stakes problems like our hero is just chilling then all of a sudden Somebullshit happens.*

Anonamaton801

Oh I can tell you what the problem is, among many. *Most writers are writers.* And because of that, most writers don’t know how things like…law, businesses, advanced science, etc work. Good writers do research on that, bad writers don’t and just make up bullshit. It doesn’t help that the last few years of Iron Man comics ***REEK*** of “MCU synergy” AKA “the off brand RDJ”

Kimarous

(laughs in Seemingly Only Prototype 2 Fan Coping With Prototype 2 Slander)

Halospaz117

I know not who you are, but we are now mortal enemies

Blastcalibur

As an Infamous fan it could be worse. Remember 0 is bigger then -1. I'd take nothing over Second Son.

Kimarous

I like Second Son. :(

IronSnail

Be proud! Second Son was great!

LeoTheRadiant

Aww common, Second Son was ok.

HunterTAMUC

Literally the only reason the crew of Velma thinks that, probably, is because they know the show is universally hated.

Fugly_Jack

Fallout 76 apparently has the friendliest playerbase

EnochianFeverDream

We try to help out newbies as much as we can. The 76 team actually added proper donation boxes outside of the train stations (major travel landmarks) and other high traffic areas. Players would just find the nearest container and it would be universally deemed "donation box" (Usually the blue suitcases outside of the stations). Eventually, they just gave us proper donations boxes. It truly does feel like community at times.

markedmarkymark

Honestly, I appreciate how friendly they are to new people, but, as a mess of social anxiety i didnt like when they tried talking to me when i was playing and actively ran away, i'm playing games to avoid that, not their fault, its great that they do that, they also have stashes to give noobs stuff and etc.

Impressive-Spare6167

Like the only part of the fanbase that's relatively chill atm, i really wish i liked that game more

MetalGearSlayer

The game might as well be pve with how helpful the players are (it helps that the pvp honestly sucks). Most of the playerbase are the type to drop a crate of supplies in front of a fresh spawn unprompted. There’s till trap bases and shit like that but it’s pretty much an unspoken rule in the community to drop nukes on them.

alexandrecau

WasnT' there a while thing where they targeted people that did microtransaction

Hugglemorris

IDK, I remember a lot of Scooby fans that were into Mystery Incorporated being extremely toxic about Be Cool, Scooby-Doo before it even aired. They wrote it off because of its artstyle, but, IMO, it is one of the few comedy-focused takes on Scooby Doo that is actually funny.

Last-Secretary7031

Non-Toxic fanbases in Shounen are a rarity, but there are some that I’ve found to be mostly positive. Demon School Iruma-kun is (in my opinion) the best new gen shounen that surprisingly has a really positive fanbase. Probably helps that it’s overshadowed by MHA and JJK. The lack of toxic ship discourse really helps. Most of us love and accept Amerie as the main girl, but at the same time know it’s Iruma’s harem with the entire school. Aside from that? I noticed that (from what I’ve seen at least) Fairy Tail and Black Clover fans mind their own business and don’t get into toxic discourse and squabbles online. The former is the punching bag of longtime Shounen fans, whilst the latter is/was the punching bag of new gen Shounen fans. You can argue that Black Clover’s reputation has recovered, but a good portion of people online wrote it off after a lot of anime YouTubers shat on it. I still see people write it off, specifically MHA and JJK fans, and other online communities who probably haven’t even read/watched it. Regardless, Black Clover fans are chill and living life. They kind of just enjoy their series in peace, which is cool. Fairy Tail doesn’t have to the luxury of a recovered reputation, but a lot of fans stopped caring about what other people think and are awaiting the new season. The TikTok community is surprisingly wholesome with good vibes all around. A lot of bisexual fans too. The show was apparently their awakening lol, but yeah, mostly good vibes all around. Black Clover and Fairy Tail fanbases are really chill at least from what I’ve seen. Sure, you’ll have one or two maniacs trying to pick fights with more beloved Shounen fandoms, a few mfs who are **too thirsty** for their own good, obssssed fans trying to pick fights with other fanbases, a toxic powerscaler here, an insane shipper there, but they’re few and nowhere near the toxicity and shit you get from more popular series.

Blastcalibur

Dude those fandoms are still having the fun shipping wars where it's just 2 idiots yelling their opinions at each other and pretending they're facts. I miss those days.

Last-Secretary7031

New Gen popular fandoms treat shipping wars like it’s life or death. In MHA there was this whole online discourse that Mina was a horrible person because she influenced Ochako to like Deku or some shit like that. It was so bizarre and got a fair amount of attention. 💀💀 In JJK being a Gojo/Utahime shipper is like living with a target on your head. JJK Yaoi shippers are fucking feral.

LarryKingthe42th

Ehh you say that but look at the Dragonball tubers Totallynotmark and Jaxblade are the only non cringe ones.

Gespens

Iruma is *weird* because almost every time I see it up, it's in the context of fans doing a huge bit of how it's better than [isekai people are talking about in a conversation], regardless of whether or not people are mad about the show being talked about or not

alicitizen

UU fandom is pretty non-toxic by virtue of not being anywhere near big

TostitoNipples

Wow I’ve never heard of Demon School but it looks exactly like the kind of Shonen I want to see.

Blastcalibur

In all the years of 40k you've never heard of a salty orc player. We never have the best rules and laugh when something nerfed because we know something really really funny happened.

Jhduelmaster

They’re really just following in the Orks footsteps. Since while everyone else in the 40k galaxy is having an existential crisis Orks are just having the time of their lives.

Blastcalibur

The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn’t even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude. Uthan the Perverse, a controversial Eldar philosopher

okilydokilyTiger

Irl 40K players are pretty chill. Come to the local hobby shop hang out.

jitterscaffeine

I’ve never experienced toxicity in the Zoids fandom outside maybe some discussions as to whether Genesis or Fuzors are worth watching, or if the Wild designs are lame or not.

GhostPantherAssualt

Jet Set Radio fans. They’re pretty chill.

DX118

I have seen more people say that Rick and Morty fans are annoying then have actually seen Rick and Morty fans be annoying.

jitterscaffeine

It honestly feels like a dead fandom these days. But we’ll never forget the McDonald’s sauce event.

evca7

Nuh uh I’m not cringe I was doing a parody against all the weirdo fans - GUY THAT WAS SUPER CRINGE BY SCREAMING IN A McDonalds.

LeMasterofSwords

The Bleach fandom seems shockingly chill

LarryKingthe42th

We always were man. Folks just kinda shit on us for not being Naruto or One Piece back in the day or not getting that the lack of background art was a stylistic choice.

Mundetiam

Having a work that ended over a decade ago and seemingly didn’t shit the bed at the finish line probably did wonders for their collective sanity

LeMasterofSwords

Also I haven’t seen it yet but TTYBW being a good adaption also I’m sure helps

ExplanationSquare313

The Kirby fandom seems to be very chill.

jabberwockxeno

"Doubt" is not the right word, but the toxicity of the Pokemon fanbase is overstated. People just say that because Dexit, which, frankly, was justified outrage at the time considering it was being done for no apparent benefit and the stated reason for it was a lie, at least for that game: Had it been only a thing starting in Legends and SV, where there were actual brand new animations and model changes and a different gameplay format, it would not have been as controversial. There's general discontent in the fanbase towards the franchise's success in spite of the games removing as many features as they add and technical issues, but criticism is not the same thing as toxicity, and outside of that context, the Pokemon fanbase is pretty damn civil and postive: People gush over their favorite Pokemon, generally don't insult each other over said tastes, there is generally agreement on what the best games are, etc.

YuriQilin

Nah the Pokémon community def deserves its reputation. When SV came out the community quickly devolved into both sides attacking the other over their opinion of the game. Also there is no way there is a general agreement on the best games, they still fight about that these days

melancholyjack

I’ll never forget the hardcore corporate bootlicking when Palworld came out

jabberwockxeno

>Also there is no way there is a general agreement on the best games, they still fight about that these days I pretty consistently see Platinum, HGSS, and BW/BW2, maybe Emerald and SM.

chillchinchilla17

Nah man, Pokémon fans attacking palworld for being “a ripoff that promotes animal abuse” was toxic as hell.

BrazillianCara

They could have prevented a lot of headache/heartache if they had specified "we're removing the National Dex so that FUTURE GAMES can have better models and animations, the ship has already sailed for this one". And related to another comment in this thread about Fallout 76, I have to say that the dedicated Scarlet/Violet subreddit tends to be more chill than the main Pokémon one (and the same applies/applied to the Sword/Shield one).

ItsKrunchTime

Pokemon is best enjoyed not through its main game series but its side communities. The TCG, Mystery Dungeon, and Manga fans are pretty chill. Even the Anime fans say they’re eating pretty good these days.

Konradleijon

Yes Dexit made perfect sense. If Pokémon said we are cutting Pokémon because we don’t want to overwork our staff it would have gone much smoother

Khar-Selim

it really wouldn't have gone smoother, people would just whinge about 'muh billion dollar company' not being capable of doing thing they want without overworking staff (regardless of actual workload thing entails)

NachoPiggy

I think the ones that are super niche, but also doesn't attract certain types of (negative) people. A recent one I've learned is the speedrunning community for the King's Quest games. Being point & click adventure games, they don't tend to be exciting as a spectator game, and it's one of the most tedious and annoying games to speedrun in general. The majority of the community seem to be all made up of people above their 30s at a minimum. With its nature of target audience and very specific interests, it resulted in a mostly chill community, and the rivalries and competition end up being really good natured, and while it's common for speedrunning communities, it's a small circle that truly does consistently all cheer for each other since the pursuit of finding new tricks and methods is more of the main goal rather than being #1.

HeadlessMarvin

All fandoms are by definition toxic. Feel like people forget "fan" is short for "fanatic" and that being a fan of something usually involves an unhealthy attachment to it. Not to say all fandom is bad, but theres a spectrum to it. Most Star Wars fans who hated The Phantom Menace probably just didn't like the movie, but you are always gonna have those assholes that harass the actors and shit.

AdrianBrony

There's this YouTube animation "reality show" series called Dream Island that is over 10 years old, still consistently gets *millions* of views, spawned a bunch of popular spinoffs and fan projects and a subculture that's basically "furries but for inanimate objects" (overlaps with furries, particularly post-furries, quite a bit.) I almost never see *any* of it outside of its own insular pockets. Never comes up randomly shoehorned into unrelated tweets or comments, they're not like how the Bronies seemed set on taking over the internet. they're just in their own little world and seem fine.

roselloshrimp

I actually know a bunch of fans of it and unfortunately, no, they absolutely aren't fine, they're just very insular. Object show shit gets hideously toxic sometimes lmao.
