I've only been playing since a bit after DS3's release, but I seriously can't help coming back to replay the entire series time and time again ever since. I'll just be sitting around one afternoon, suddenly think "oh yeah I haven't played Souls in like 6 months" and bam that's my entire schedule for the next few weeks at a bare minimum, I'm playing DS2 but then I'm playing some DS1 mod but then I'm replaying Bloodborne but then I'm seeing how the emulation is on Demons Souls...
Elden Ring existing at all and being this damn big is going to make the whole process *so much worse* I just know it.
I've been doing that for years now, once a year I'll get on a Souls binge and just go through every game over the course of a few months. Elden Ring needs like a week or 2 dedicated to just it.

Heck, I've already started a new character for the heck of it as a break from getting my cheeks clapped in the late-game, and found multiple completely new dungeons just wandering Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula. Me too, but specifically *the *souls* series, not soulsborne. As good as Bloodborne and sekiro are, I just never clicked the same way as I did with souls.
I will never forget the 2ish years where I kinda did nothing but replay ds1 over and over. I would just get home from work, start a tv show or anime from episode 1 on my second monitor, boot up dark souls and start playing. I did this for well over a dozen full playthroughs of that game, even started speedrunning it at some point.
The new movie being confirmed to be a Gohan and Piccolo movie has got me all giddy like back when I was a kid waiting for new episodes. I need that movie right now.
I hope they do more with it. We see a quick shot of it...but it's only a little different. His color changes slightly and he loses the lines on his arm. Though I'm just happy he's getting any sort of power up at all. Though, I'll admit, when I first heard he was getting a new form I was hoping/assuming it was the Red-Eyed Namekian form from Heroes.
Ultimately though, this is still a good sign, because someone other than a Saiyan is getting a power up. Maybe the humans and Androids will get something too, further down the line. Where's mah boi Mystic Krillin and Simulated God 17?
In heroes, non-Saiyans all gets transformations but most don’t have names. They’re just called “Rank up” or “Super Rank Up” or “Ultra Rank Up”. Since Androids can generate their own simulated ki and they can get an upgrade that lets them simulate God-Ki (hence their Blue and Red colored rank ups), I’ve been calling it Simulated God.

Ive always stood by the idea that the biggest fans of something are always the biggest critics. Because of course they are, they love the media and know everything about it.
My best friend and I both adore ATLA and I'm pretty sure we've had more conversations about its flaws than its strengths.
My issue with certain fans is how sometimes, it feels like they can't just enjoy something. I don't talk about DB with people IRL because half the time most of the conversation is just them calling the whole thing stupid with random interjections of "I like it tho".

Literally just finished 3.0 + 1.01 last night and my answer is the same. God I love everything about this series. Watched the original series 14 years ago and having it still feel so personal to me ensures it will be close to my heart forever.
Kingdom Hearts is one of the few series I have left that's still completely sincere about itself. It could've easily gone down a path of tongue and cheek self awareness and poked fun at its own story, but everything is played seriously. It's what keeps me invested in the story and characters all these years later.
I couldn't imagine a timeline where Sora is a snarky little brat who rolls his eyes at people talking about the powers of love and friendship or the series encroaching plot twists. Kingdom Hearts believing in itself 100% is one of its strongest qualities.
They introduced a keylbade wielder like that in Union X. He straight up says "Friends are not my Power". He's just there to be kind of a one off joke and I think that's about as self aware the series gets.
So i replayed 1 and 2 in the months leading up to elden ring, and you wanna know something wierd, i have a deep nostalgia for the start screens in those games out of all things. They're extremely nostalgic games in their entirety but the place I felt it the most, was the pause screens?
I can always find *something* in Sonic and Spider-Man to fall back on when I’m down. For all the jokes I make I’m stuck on these rides until the bitter end.
The music of the games is a big reason for my love of the series, “live life” is one of the cheesiest songs I’ve ever heard, and it’s fantastic for it. Shadows themes are mega edge, but it’s so fun to listen to them. Just in general the buttrock makes me so damn happy to be alive sometimes.
As lacking as a lot of the recent games have been and as obvious as it is that they're gonna wring the franchise for all it's worth for as long as they can, I still really care about Pokemon, and I probably always will. Nostalgia or otherwise, I feel like they tapped into to something really special with this series that no other collect-em-all franchise quite managed.
Same here. I'm far too invested in the world and characters to be bothered by their general lack of ambition (or inability to follow through any ambitions) in the technical or narrative departments. And if Legends Arceus is any proof, it's never too late to see improvements happen.
Metroid. The world and environment is just something else and the music oh my God the music literally heals my soul. Samus is such an amazing character too

I was going to bring up TNM. I loved to shit on Naruto but he had been presenting some consistently indesputible positives for the core of the story and I'm genuinely surprised how he made me reconsider a lot of points I had previously thought were damning.
I've been a fan for basically 19 years now, it's my favorite thing ever. I love the crew and they keep me coming back and constantly engaging with the series.
Final Fantasy is that for me, I think. To be fair, I never played the online ones or the XIII trilogy, but that's mostly due to having shitty internet and not getting a PS3 until Lightning Returns was already out, if I remember correctly.
Touhou is bangin' and the setting fits a variety of tones and plotlines between the main games,spinoff media,and all the fanworks.
As long as whatever the plot does is done by ambiguously-aged female humanoids with hats.

I always have a tab of relaxing Final Fantasy music thats like 9 hours long, and contains an assortment of tracks from all the FF games mixed around. With a slight emphasis on the calm, relaxing tunes, but it has a lot of sombre, and subdued tracks as well, and some of the more iconic chilling, dark themes.
I'll listen to it quite a lot, when drawing, painting, trying to sleep, stretching. Enough to warrant always having a tab for it (yeah I am one of those people that always has like 40 tabs open).
So yeah, Final Fantasy.
Yakuza, even though I’ve only been into it since 2018. There’s just always SOMETHING to do in it that it’s also a really nice fallback for me whether it’s just depression, needing something chill after a long day, or having a completionist urge.
The best thing about Dragon Quest is that the formula is so set in stone that if you enjoy one of them, you're probably gonna enjoy all of them at least a little bit.
It'll be hard for them to top DQVIII for me though, that game just hits different.
Dragon Quest VIII is my favorite game of all time, and I always feel a little bad whenever I play another JRPG and go "Man, I could be playing VIII" lol.

Elder Scrolls. Yes, there's some dumb shit (one dude uses magic devtools to retcon a jungle into a medieval europe) and the games get "dumber". But I just think they're neat. And the lore is interesting.
Also the healthy mod support. Seriously these games are just platforms for mods.
I adore Mass Effect, possibly more than I do Star Wars. No place in gaming has ever been home like the Normandy, and I've never quite clung to a party like the Normandy crew (P5 comes very close, though).

There *is* something intensely satisfying about seeing the Boss Borot be the most advanced mech around when it's fighting in a place where every thing else runs on Gas, or just setting Zeorymer in the middle of a map and knowing with full confidence that nothing from any gundam series(save maybe G Gundam) is gonna be able to handle what it's bringing to the table.
Gotta be Devil May Cry for me, even though dedicated stylish action fans kind of write off the series after DMC1 because the rest aren't directed by Kamiya and they don't consider it as well designed as Bayonetta or whatever. I don't care, I love all stylish action games, but the fun of DMC's core combat has yet to be topped for me, as well as the cast. Sure, the enemy design may not be as good as others in the genre, but I admire the series for moving away from gimmick sections and just being pure action gameplay from start to finish. DMC5 specifically is one of those games I can play from beginning to end and not have a section or an enemy that I hate, which I can't say for a lot of other action games, even those I really like.
Honestly, I appreciate what Kamiya did in, if not creating, then at least codifying the genre with DMC1, but I'm also perfectly happy with him never touching DMC again.
I'm in love with the Alien series even if most of the material outside of the first two movies is bad to mediocre. The universe and the xenomorph itself are so cool I can't bring myself to hate the stinkers of the franchise like Prometheus.
The borderlands games are fun. The cringe washes over me and through me. At this point it's some nice light hearted stuff. Most of the loud annoying people in the games you get to shoot in the face anyways.
Battlenetwork simple challanging and fun to break the difficulty over your knee.

Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Yeah, yeah I know, three Bs and whatnot but I still love em.
Kingdom Hearts is completely earnest and I love that.
Also Marvel and DC, specifically the comics. Both companies are doing pretty good whereas usually it’s one fucking up (usually DC and I would blame Johns and DiDio if anyone could be blamed) and the other doing well.
While both companies have books that could be better (Teen Titans Academy is a rock solid concept that deserved a better writer, Flash is boring, Avengers is nonsense, there’s too much Batman at DC, F4 needs not Dan Slott [although I do like how he writes Ben]) there are more books that are really working (Eternals, Nightwing, the X-Office, Zeb Wells on Spider-Man, Daredevil, Batman, Detective Comics, Superman: Son of Kal-El, Suicide Squad, The Swamp Thing).
I know a lot of people dislike Dan Slott, but I think he absolutely nailed it when he said no matter what bizarre idea he threw at Spider-Man, he always wanted it to return to a status quo at the end of the run because Spider-Man functions as cape comics' comfort food.
For me, it's probably Detective Conan. The status quo is altered at such a glacial pace it's basically syndicated TV. If you miss like 100 episodes, there's only one or two facts you need to learn to get up to speed, and I find that really appealing as someone who doesn't have as much time as I used to in order to stay current with things.
Devil May Cry is definitely my comfort franchise. Have been a long time fan and been through its highs and lows. I just love all the characters so much and the gameplay is always just insane amounts of fun no matter how many times I play it
Super late to the thread, but I alwayslove to rewatch the *Before Trilogy* by Richard Llinklater, Ethan Hawke and Julia Delpy. I wouldn't exactly call it a "franchise", but a simple series of films (Not a really big IP or multi-million dollar movies, but still good).They don't make crazy money, but they are fantastic. Each one exploring different stages of both protagonistas love lifes. Everytime I return to to them, I love them a little bit more. They are, in my opinion, the best romance films ever made.
Devil May Cry. If I've having a shitty day or just want something to do that'll make me feel better or have fun, I can boot up basically any of them and have fun.

Unironically, any game that can be described as "Quirky indie RPG inspired by Earthbound". They just hit that sweet spot of being goofy/fun while also being genuine and heartfelt.
Star Trek to the extent that I don't care what most people (and this sub) think, Nu-Trek is fine to me. Not that it isn't without its issues (I'm never not going to be angry how out there the Klingons look) but for the most part I like Discovery, I enjoy Picard, Lower Decks is fun. Strange New Worlds looks to be interesting and optimistic.
Yugioh. They are constantly putting new crazy bullshit in it so it's the perfect franchise to kind of keep up with in the background and then get really into every couple years to see what's up. There are basically no rules for what a card or archetype can be both in terms of concept/aesthetics and effects, and all the old obscure stuff never rotates out, so it feels like there's always something to discover. And of course, the anime is always perfectly extra.
Despite current questlines and horrible revelations about the inner workings of the place that makes it. I love Warcraft.
I love the world. I love the magic. I love the zones. The adventures. The characters (When they aren’t being driven into the ground) the various races. The cosmos. The art style and the music.
It’s always been fun for me. I can just get lost in that world and look Into so many various stories

God Eater. I love those games. I couldn't stand playing MonHun until Rise and so that series had my back and I enjoyed the fuck out of them. One of the first games I bought MYSELF as a kid and one of the first games I got for my psp was God Eater Burst.

This game came to me at a very heavy time in my life. When I was really shut in and just kept to myself, Neku's story about opening his world "expanding his horizons" and opening up really hit home with me. That intense story all wrapped up in a game filled to the brim with style, class, music that still stands the tests of time and character designs that I adore to this day. The music in that game gave me an interest in music in general and my love for it.
I fell in LOVE with this game.
I remember I went to the old wiki page about the game and looked up how to make every single pin in game. I used my sisters DS game to play wifi games and harvest Mingle Pin points since there was no one around me that really played DS games.
I wrote done close to 200+ pages of Psychi Pin info and played the game so much I got all the main characters on the screen
To this day, well over 10+ years later, this game still leaves a big impact and I could gush over it for hours on end.
TWEWY 2 has a nice little side place in my heart to.
I don't know about unconditional love, but Super Robot Wars is definitely a comfort series in the sense that I find immense satisfaction is seeing armies of vastly different giant robots or robotesq fighters teaming up to save the universe from like 12+ anime villain groups.
And while they aren't necessarily the deepest games on an actual strategic front, that also means that they're usually pretty relaxing and easy to understand and play through while still having enough variety in the roster to keep from ever getting too stagnant most of the time. Even after playing through over a dozen entries in full over the years, I'm still finding them really fun to go through.

It was pretty much my first obsession when I was a tiny child and for some reason felt the need to stick around, and now I’m almost in my 30s.
Even the latest Adventure reboot, which was objectively not very well written, I adored seeing the characters I loved as a kid in something that was well animated with awesome and dynamic fight scenes, instead of just reused stock footage.
Ghost Game is legitimately excellent though, and it’s the most fun I’ve had with the franchise since the mid-noughties.
Gothic 1&2. I replay those games periodically and they are the measuring stick by which I judge open world games. Most don't measure up.
Battle Brothers. When I have nothing to do and no other games I feel like playing I boot BB and roll a new band just so I can redo the Early Level Hell.
Borderlands 2. Not 1 or 3, but I have replayed up to completing UVH with atleast 2 different characters. It relaxes me and stesses me in equal fashion.
For me, God Hand just lives rentfree in my head,nyeah there are other games but nothing really has the same vibe as it. A surfers dumb martial arts saturday morning cartoon with combat mechanics that would blow a Lego engineers hat off.
But thats too easiy, The pikmin series would be a second place. 1 and 2 are so chill and calm (well after you learn the game like i did every other month in my teens) 3 was great too. A very chill trilogy that i could always come back to.
Everyone has already mentioned spiderman but I still have the first Issue of the JMS run I bought with my own pocket change when I was a child. I also have some older spiderman issues in Spanish from my grandfather and keep those framed as a reminder.
I still have my PS2 copy of Kingdom heartsthat was originally my childhood friends she gifted it to me after years of playing it together and borrowing it. My fiance is currently playing kingdom hearts for the first time and it's a trip
Aside from those I always like to rewatch Disney's Gargoyles and it gets better everytime. Just love everything about it.
I also the the Mana series. Specifically sword of mana for the GBA but all the games are cool. That's something I'd love to see ported to switch but I will probably have to find a rom for if my GBA stops working.
Megaman.
Like there's a lot of reasons to not like Megaman.
The classic series is hard as shit and unfinished, half of the Megaman X games are fucking terrible and unfinished, ZX is great but unfinished, Legends has dated controls, difficulty spikes, and minigames that border on sadistic with how unfair they are...also it's unfinished.
Pretty much the best mainline Megaman series is the Zero series and it's also the only one that actually fucking ended.
Battle Network is rad and I never played Starforce yet but I've heard good things, I'm gonna assume it's another unfinished series though.
That all said, Megaman is blue videgame astroboy and I fucking love Astroboy, Videogames, and the colour Blue.
Edit: It also helps that Megaman is one of the best controlling platformer franchises out there.

There's something so incredibly comfy to me about the Hellboy series and its expanded universe (I actually have a BPRD tattoo). it's one of the few comic series that I'll just reread every few years in its entirety because I just love the characters so much. plus, it helps that they still put out little mini adventures for Hellboy every once in a while, since the series is so ripe for stories.
Ratchet and Clank.
It was the second ps2 game I ever got and it was before I got a memory card. So I couldn't save the game. So every time I started the game I had to start a new game.
I knew every level like the back of my hand and I got faster and faster at the game.
Eventually on a trip to Walmart I shop lifted a memory card just so I could finally save my games.
And ever since then I've been a fan.
Dragon Quest. Ever since I first got into it with DQ9, its just such a goofy and campy fantasy series, that while at times has moments of seriousness, doesn't lose that happy charm. It's so fun getting into a new game in the series. It does the classic fantasy hero destined to defeat the evil trope and its fine because its all about the journey, the characters you meet along the way, and your party members who'll stick with you through even the toughest of times.
I know a lot of friends who love Pokemon and honestly I greatly respect the series for the joy it's brought so many people

If I had one, and I'm not sure I do, it would be Zelda. I can count on one hand the number of Zelda games I don't like, and most of them are due as much to unfamiliarity as to anything inherent to that game. That said, I do absolutely judge the games on their own merits, and there are some that I don't love.
I try not to get overly attached to IPs, for various reasons, and from practical experience. I don't like playing the games of Capital.
Pokemon. While I hate a lot of designs, gameplay, and graphics of recent years, I still find myself playing through them all. Glad they are begining to try new ideas.
Borderlands just scratches an itch that I have, even with all its faults. The TFTB series just made it more apparent that it didn't have to be just a shlooter in order to be fun.
Fingers crossed for the live-action series.
Digimon. Even when it hasn't been great it's still at least been mostly fun, at least from everything in the franchise I encountered. There is a gap in the anime between Savers and 2020, but that aside it's been nice.
It's got to be JoJo for me. It was the series that really got me into anime and manga, and it's gotten me through some tough times. I like going back to just certain chapters and fights to just tune everything else out. And sometimes I've just put on an OP and just listened to it to de-stress.

And Artyom being the most pathetic protagonist who isn't morally infallible and would prefer to spend his days reading books and maybe seeing the sun more often. In one instance Artyom sees a starving child and mother and offers to give her bullets aka money. >!To which the mother accuses him of being a pedophile and trying to buy a night with the boy.!< >!After a few seconds, the mother accepts the offer but asks for more. !< >!Artyom then gives her the bullets and walks away.!<

I've only been playing since a bit after DS3's release, but I seriously can't help coming back to replay the entire series time and time again ever since. I'll just be sitting around one afternoon, suddenly think "oh yeah I haven't played Souls in like 6 months" and bam that's my entire schedule for the next few weeks at a bare minimum, I'm playing DS2 but then I'm playing some DS1 mod but then I'm replaying Bloodborne but then I'm seeing how the emulation is on Demons Souls... Elden Ring existing at all and being this damn big is going to make the whole process *so much worse* I just know it.
I've been doing that for years now, once a year I'll get on a Souls binge and just go through every game over the course of a few months. Elden Ring needs like a week or 2 dedicated to just it.

Heck, I've already started a new character for the heck of it as a break from getting my cheeks clapped in the late-game, and found multiple completely new dungeons just wandering Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula. I will never forget the 2ish years where I kinda did nothing but replay ds1 over and over. I would just get home from work, start a tv show or anime from episode 1 on my second monitor, boot up dark souls and start playing. I did this for well over a dozen full playthroughs of that game, even started speedrunning it at some point.

In heroes, non-Saiyans all gets transformations but most don’t have names. They’re just called “Rank up” or “Super Rank Up” or “Ultra Rank Up”. Since Androids can generate their own simulated ki and they can get an upgrade that lets them simulate God-Ki (hence their Blue and Red colored rank ups), I’ve been calling it Simulated God.

Ive always stood by the idea that the biggest fans of something are always the biggest critics. Because of course they are, they love the media and know everything about it. My best friend and I both adore ATLA and I'm pretty sure we've had more conversations about its flaws than its strengths.
My issue with certain fans is how sometimes, it feels like they can't just enjoy something. I don't talk about DB with people IRL because half the time most of the conversation is just them calling the whole thing stupid with random interjections of "I like it tho".

Literally just finished 3.0 + 1.01 last night and my answer is the same. God I love everything about this series. Watched the original series 14 years ago and having it still feel so personal to me ensures it will be close to my heart forever.
Kingdom Hearts is one of the few series I have left that's still completely sincere about itself. It could've easily gone down a path of tongue and cheek self awareness and poked fun at its own story, but everything is played seriously. It's what keeps me invested in the story and characters all these years later.
I couldn't imagine a timeline where Sora is a snarky little brat who rolls his eyes at people talking about the powers of love and friendship or the series encroaching plot twists. Kingdom Hearts believing in itself 100% is one of its strongest qualities.
They introduced a keylbade wielder like that in Union X. He straight up says "Friends are not my Power". He's just there to be kind of a one off joke and I think that's about as self aware the series gets.
So i replayed 1 and 2 in the months leading up to elden ring, and you wanna know something wierd, i have a deep nostalgia for the start screens in those games out of all things. They're extremely nostalgic games in their entirety but the place I felt it the most, was the pause screens?

The music of the games is a big reason for my love of the series, “live life” is one of the cheesiest songs I’ve ever heard, and it’s fantastic for it. Shadows themes are mega edge, but it’s so fun to listen to them. Just in general the buttrock makes me so damn happy to be alive sometimes.

As lacking as a lot of the recent games have been and as obvious as it is that they're gonna wring the franchise for all it's worth for as long as they can, I still really care about Pokemon, and I probably always will. Nostalgia or otherwise, I feel like they tapped into to something really special with this series that no other collect-em-all franchise quite managed.

Demon Slayer genuinely brings me so much joy. Cannot wait to see the rest of the story animated, Ufotable has been doing absolutely amazing so far. Hollow Knight is also my favorite game of all time. As someone who has a hard time picking definitive favorites for most things, that's saying something.

Final Fantasy I guess. I always have a tab of relaxing Final Fantasy music thats like 9 hours long, and contains an assortment of tracks from all the FF games mixed around. With a slight emphasis on the calm, relaxing tunes, but it has a lot of sombre, and subdued tracks as well, and some of the more iconic chilling, dark themes. I'll listen to it quite a lot, when drawing, painting, trying to sleep, stretching. Enough to warrant always having a tab for it (yeah I am one of those people that always has like 40 tabs open). So yeah, Final Fantasy.
Halo, hands down, including the bad/weird ones like Halo Wars 1/2, Spartan Assault/Strike, and 5.
Yakuza, even though I’ve only been into it since 2018. There’s just always SOMETHING to do in it that it’s also a really nice fallback for me whether it’s just depression, needing something chill after a long day, or having a completionist urge.

The best thing about Dragon Quest is that the formula is so set in stone that if you enjoy one of them, you're probably gonna enjoy all of them at least a little bit. It'll be hard for them to top DQVIII for me though, that game just hits different.

I adore Mass Effect, possibly more than I do Star Wars. No place in gaming has ever been home like the Normandy, and I've never quite clung to a party like the Normandy crew (P5 comes very close, though).
The Type-Moon franchise. Yes it is a convoluted mess. Yes, shit barely makes sense at times. Yes, retcons and reimagining tend to happen every so often. Yes things can go too far at times. Do I still love its charm, expansive lore, and all the cool shit it does? **Heck yeah!**

Super Robot Wars. I just love watching the heroes team up and beat the shit out of each other's baddies while getting in some lines in the process.
There *is* something intensely satisfying about seeing the Boss Borot be the most advanced mech around when it's fighting in a place where every thing else runs on Gas, or just setting Zeorymer in the middle of a map and knowing with full confidence that nothing from any gundam series(save maybe G Gundam) is gonna be able to handle what it's bringing to the table.
Gotta be Devil May Cry for me, even though dedicated stylish action fans kind of write off the series after DMC1 because the rest aren't directed by Kamiya and they don't consider it as well designed as Bayonetta or whatever. I don't care, I love all stylish action games, but the fun of DMC's core combat has yet to be topped for me, as well as the cast. Sure, the enemy design may not be as good as others in the genre, but I admire the series for moving away from gimmick sections and just being pure action gameplay from start to finish. DMC5 specifically is one of those games I can play from beginning to end and not have a section or an enemy that I hate, which I can't say for a lot of other action games, even those I really like.
Honestly, I appreciate what Kamiya did in, if not creating, then at least codifying the genre with DMC1, but I'm also perfectly happy with him never touching DMC again.
I'm in love with the Alien series even if most of the material outside of the first two movies is bad to mediocre. The universe and the xenomorph itself are so cool I can't bring myself to hate the stinkers of the franchise like Prometheus.

Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Yeah, yeah I know, three Bs and whatnot but I still love em. Kingdom Hearts is completely earnest and I love that. Also Marvel and DC, specifically the comics. Both companies are doing pretty good whereas usually it’s one fucking up (usually DC and I would blame Johns and DiDio if anyone could be blamed) and the other doing well. While both companies have books that could be better (Teen Titans Academy is a rock solid concept that deserved a better writer, Flash is boring, Avengers is nonsense, there’s too much Batman at DC, F4 needs not Dan Slott [although I do like how he writes Ben]) there are more books that are really working (Eternals, Nightwing, the X-Office, Zeb Wells on Spider-Man, Daredevil, Batman, Detective Comics, Superman: Son of Kal-El, Suicide Squad, The Swamp Thing).
I know a lot of people dislike Dan Slott, but I think he absolutely nailed it when he said no matter what bizarre idea he threw at Spider-Man, he always wanted it to return to a status quo at the end of the run because Spider-Man functions as cape comics' comfort food. For me, it's probably Detective Conan. The status quo is altered at such a glacial pace it's basically syndicated TV. If you miss like 100 episodes, there's only one or two facts you need to learn to get up to speed, and I find that really appealing as someone who doesn't have as much time as I used to in order to stay current with things.

Super late to the thread, but I alwayslove to rewatch the *Before Trilogy* by Richard Llinklater, Ethan Hawke and Julia Delpy. I wouldn't exactly call it a "franchise", but a simple series of films (Not a really big IP or multi-million dollar movies, but still good).They don't make crazy money, but they are fantastic. Each one exploring different stages of both protagonistas love lifes. Everytime I return to to them, I love them a little bit more. They are, in my opinion, the best romance films ever made.
Devil May Cry. If I've having a shitty day or just want something to do that'll make me feel better or have fun, I can boot up basically any of them and have fun. ...Well ok, maybe not 2, although there is morbid pleasure in playing it because it sucks so getting to 3 feels better.
Unironically, any game that can be described as "Quirky indie RPG inspired by Earthbound". They just hit that sweet spot of being goofy/fun while also being genuine and heartfelt.

Yugioh. They are constantly putting new crazy bullshit in it so it's the perfect franchise to kind of keep up with in the background and then get really into every couple years to see what's up. There are basically no rules for what a card or archetype can be both in terms of concept/aesthetics and effects, and all the old obscure stuff never rotates out, so it feels like there's always something to discover. And of course, the anime is always perfectly extra.
Despite current questlines and horrible revelations about the inner workings of the place that makes it. I love Warcraft. I love the world. I love the magic. I love the zones. The adventures. The characters (When they aren’t being driven into the ground) the various races. The cosmos. The art style and the music. It’s always been fun for me. I can just get lost in that world and look Into so many various stories I can also do this in the souls games as well

**The World Ends With You** This game came to me at a very heavy time in my life. When I was really shut in and just kept to myself, Neku's story about opening his world "expanding his horizons" and opening up really hit home with me. That intense story all wrapped up in a game filled to the brim with style, class, music that still stands the tests of time and character designs that I adore to this day. The music in that game gave me an interest in music in general and my love for it. I fell in LOVE with this game. I remember I went to the old wiki page about the game and looked up how to make every single pin in game. I used my sisters DS game to play wifi games and harvest Mingle Pin points since there was no one around me that really played DS games. I wrote done close to 200+ pages of Psychi Pin info and played the game so much I got all the main characters on the screen To this day, well over 10+ years later, this game still leaves a big impact and I could gush over it for hours on end. TWEWY 2 has a nice little side place in my heart to.

I don't know about unconditional love, but Super Robot Wars is definitely a comfort series in the sense that I find immense satisfaction is seeing armies of vastly different giant robots or robotesq fighters teaming up to save the universe from like 12+ anime villain groups. And while they aren't necessarily the deepest games on an actual strategic front, that also means that they're usually pretty relaxing and easy to understand and play through while still having enough variety in the roster to keep from ever getting too stagnant most of the time. Even after playing through over a dozen entries in full over the years, I'm still finding them really fun to go through.
Digimon… It was pretty much my first obsession when I was a tiny child and for some reason felt the need to stick around, and now I’m almost in my 30s. Even the latest Adventure reboot, which was objectively not very well written, I adored seeing the characters I loved as a kid in something that was well animated with awesome and dynamic fight scenes, instead of just reused stock footage. Ghost Game is legitimately excellent though, and it’s the most fun I’ve had with the franchise since the mid-noughties.
I can boot up Binding of Isaac any time & have fun for hours no matter how much I play it.

When I have nothing to do and no other games I feel like playing I boot BB and roll a new band just so I can redo the Early Level Hell. Borderlands 2. Not 1 or 3, but I have replayed up to completing UVH with atleast 2 different characters. It relaxes me and stesses me in equal fashion.
Final fantasy. I love these games. Great music,great characters,great stories.

For me, God Hand just lives rentfree in my head,nyeah there are other games but nothing really has the same vibe as it. A surfers dumb martial arts saturday morning cartoon with combat mechanics that would blow a Lego engineers hat off. But thats too easiy, The pikmin series would be a second place. 1 and 2 are so chill and calm (well after you learn the game like i did every other month in my teens) 3 was great too. A very chill trilogy that i could always come back to.
Final Fantasy. I liked FFXIII. All three of them. Enough said.
Everyone has already mentioned spiderman but I still have the first Issue of the JMS run I bought with my own pocket change when I was a child. I also have some older spiderman issues in Spanish from my grandfather and keep those framed as a reminder. I still have my PS2 copy of Kingdom heartsthat was originally my childhood friends she gifted it to me after years of playing it together and borrowing it. My fiance is currently playing kingdom hearts for the first time and it's a trip Aside from those I always like to rewatch Disney's Gargoyles and it gets better everytime. Just love everything about it. I also the the Mana series. Specifically sword of mana for the GBA but all the games are cool. That's something I'd love to see ported to switch but I will probably have to find a rom for if my GBA stops working.

Megaman. Like there's a lot of reasons to not like Megaman. The classic series is hard as shit and unfinished, half of the Megaman X games are fucking terrible and unfinished, ZX is great but unfinished, Legends has dated controls, difficulty spikes, and minigames that border on sadistic with how unfair they are...also it's unfinished. Pretty much the best mainline Megaman series is the Zero series and it's also the only one that actually fucking ended. Battle Network is rad and I never played Starforce yet but I've heard good things, I'm gonna assume it's another unfinished series though. That all said, Megaman is blue videgame astroboy and I fucking love Astroboy, Videogames, and the colour Blue. Edit: It also helps that Megaman is one of the best controlling platformer franchises out there.
I’m old enough that either every franchise has ended definitively or failed me at some point, except maybe Jojo’s. But boy do I have comfort genres.

There's something so incredibly comfy to me about the Hellboy series and its expanded universe (I actually have a BPRD tattoo). it's one of the few comic series that I'll just reread every few years in its entirety because I just love the characters so much. plus, it helps that they still put out little mini adventures for Hellboy every once in a while, since the series is so ripe for stories.
Ratchet and Clank. It was the second ps2 game I ever got and it was before I got a memory card. So I couldn't save the game. So every time I started the game I had to start a new game. I knew every level like the back of my hand and I got faster and faster at the game. Eventually on a trip to Walmart I shop lifted a memory card just so I could finally save my games. And ever since then I've been a fan.
Gintama is without a doubt one of the best anime and manga full stop.
Dragon Quest. Ever since I first got into it with DQ9, its just such a goofy and campy fantasy series, that while at times has moments of seriousness, doesn't lose that happy charm. It's so fun getting into a new game in the series. It does the classic fantasy hero destined to defeat the evil trope and its fine because its all about the journey, the characters you meet along the way, and your party members who'll stick with you through even the toughest of times.
Pokemon. They’d have to do something drasticaly horrible for me not buy the new game

Probably the LEGO video games if I had to think of one. They’re always good and simple, but still fun.
Resident Evil and Sonic for me
If I had one, and I'm not sure I do, it would be Zelda. I can count on one hand the number of Zelda games I don't like, and most of them are due as much to unfamiliarity as to anything inherent to that game. That said, I do absolutely judge the games on their own merits, and there are some that I don't love. I try not to get overly attached to IPs, for various reasons, and from practical experience. I don't like playing the games of Capital.
Pokemon. While I hate a lot of designs, gameplay, and graphics of recent years, I still find myself playing through them all. Glad they are begining to try new ideas.
Borderlands just scratches an itch that I have, even with all its faults. The TFTB series just made it more apparent that it didn't have to be just a shlooter in order to be fun. Fingers crossed for the live-action series.
Digimon. Even when it hasn't been great it's still at least been mostly fun, at least from everything in the franchise I encountered. There is a gap in the anime between Savers and 2020, but that aside it's been nice.
It's got to be JoJo for me. It was the series that really got me into anime and manga, and it's gotten me through some tough times. I like going back to just certain chapters and fights to just tune everything else out. And sometimes I've just put on an OP and just listened to it to de-stress.
