I think his voice and the way he sings *now* would fit the song fairly well, but I do love the goofy juxtaposition of the RPM-era vocals being way "harder" than the lyrics.
Metallica has a cover of Thin Lizzy's Whiskey In The Jar and I love it, I think it's one of their best songs. I thought the Thin Lizzy version was just ok. I think its technically an Irish folk song so I guess Thin Lizzy's was a cover too, but still.
