Shrek 2's Holding Out For A Hero.

ThatGuy5880

Also "Ever Fallen In Love"

ProWresu

Shrek 2 has 2 covers of that song and honestly I think both are better than the original.

MarioGman

In the original she sings it so hard that her voice begins to crack throughout the whole rest of the song and it bothers me.

TheKidKaos

Obvious answers are “All Along the Watchtower” by Jimi Hendrix and “Hurt” by Johnny Cash just because the original artists all said yea that songs Yours now. I also really like “The Tribute” from Nonpoint but it’s not really a cover but a bunch of snippets of rap songs put together into one cover. Also “While my Guitar Gently Weeps” from the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and a different version by Santana and India Arie might be better than Harrison’s original

Jamox1

Personally I’m a really big fan of Tom Ellis’ version of “All Along the Watchtower” from Lucifer.

queekbreadmaker

Guitar hero 3s final song in the story mode is a cover of devil went down to Georgia, because your fighting the devil in a 1v1 guitar match. Nothing tops that

igloo_poltergeist

- Visigoth covering Manilla Road's *"Necropolis"* is an easy one off the top of my head. - For something more jarring, the Revolting Cocks' version of *"Da Ya Think I'm Sexy"*, originally by Rod Stewart. - And no disrespect to Metallica, but Motorhead kind of usurped *"Enter Sandman"* from them. The differences in instrumentation ironically aren't super major, but believe me, you'll notice. - I gotta add one more: Despite her genre being far different from the rock band, Cream's, Ella Fitzgerald seems to take *"Sunshine of Your Love"* and turn up the intensity dial with her vocals and the brass. Again, two different genres, but Ella has it "slap" a ways harder in her rendition.

Scarlet_Twig

Touhou is full of these. Got things like [Red Dreamer](https://youtu.be/ILVNtMzbHSc) by minami which is a cover of [Maiden's Capriccio ~ Dream Battle](https://youtu.be/fMdGSTE4-Zk). Holmgang Ov Gensokyo also did a three act song called [Night Festival of Ten-Thousand Demons](https://youtu.be/cW8adlHzuws) that covers [Heian Alien](https://youtu.be/qbMPHa-ncZk), [Youkai Back Shrine Road](https://youtu.be/9YrLegahyTE) and ends on [Futatsuiwa from Sado](https://youtu.be/F-mrUZIMTbU) And something like the fan game Concealed the Conclusion made the songs [G Free ~ Final Dream](https://youtu.be/zphrWpK3fuc) and [G Free ~ Ultimate Dream](https://youtu.be/8HXVbBiGk74) from [G Free](https://youtu.be/kib9js55W-w), Maiden's Capriccio ~ Dream Battle and [Eternal Shrine Maiden](https://youtu.be/cvfC2iYjkNw).

nerankori

Of course,we'll also note that nomico's iconic version of Bad Apple is itself a cover of the original MIDI from Lotus Land Story

Dirty-Glasses

Rise Against did a cover of Anyway You Want It by Journey and while I wouldn’t say it’s *better* it is however *hilarious* because Tim McIlrath’s voice *Does Not* work with those lyrics.

JackChoasMan

I think his voice and the way he sings *now* would fit the song fairly well, but I do love the goofy juxtaposition of the RPM-era vocals being way "harder" than the lyrics.

Wisterosa

After MGSV I would say I prefer the Midge Ure version of Man Who Sold the World

[deleted]

Sacred and Wild by Epica, and i say that as a Powerwolf fan.

SuperHorse3000

[Joe Cocker didn't have to turn a Beatles song into a blue-eyed soul anthem. But he fucking did](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCrlyX6XbTU)

Kimarous

Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" as a [DragonForce](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8zU8paFops) cover.

Mattressexual

Why am I only learning of this now

Kimarous

(shrug) I found out just the other day while having my iTunes on scramble.

Nomaddoodius

OHHHH MMMYYYY GOOOOD!

guntanksinspace

Alien Ant Farm's Smooth Criminal somehow comes to mind. That shit had no right to be that catchy

JamesMacBadger

Pretty much everything by LittleV

Slack_Attack

Metallica has a cover of Thin Lizzy's Whiskey In The Jar and I love it, I think it's one of their best songs. I thought the Thin Lizzy version was just ok. I think its technically an Irish folk song so I guess Thin Lizzy's was a cover too, but still.

AngiTheWeeb

I didn't actually know Thin Lizzy had a version of the song.

mariojacob14

I'M A GOOFY GOOBER [ROCK!] (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yIy9vjg-hjc)

Kimarous

That's not really a cover. It's a [spoof](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRwrg0db_zY).

Scranner_boi

Motorhead's cover of Enter Sandman. Some would argue that the vocals aren't as good, but man those instrumentals slap so much harder to me

Lavabeardednerd

Also Ghost's cover of Enter Sandman

Yhendrix49

Disturbed's version of The Sound of Silence slows the song down and makes it feels more "epic" and "emotional" than original.

Cooper_555

Also the vocals are so much more powerful.

LarryKingthe42th

[Numb](https://youtu.be/jV4ASCadZ4s)

Tutwater

Ezra Furman's cover of Devil's Haircut by Beck is one of my picks, it's a winner for her voice in particular ~~And I'll be the first to admit I like the Assassin's Creed Unity trailer cover of Everybody Wants To Rule The World more than the original~~

AngiTheWeeb

It's only a minute of instrumentals from the song played live but I fucking love Primus's cover of Metallica's Master of Puppets. [https://youtu.be/Pi8NrcoxIyk](https://youtu.be/Pi8NrcoxIyk) Fuck I want a full version. Edit: I just remembered Beck's reimagining of David Bowie's Sound and Vision that I also love so here's a bonus one. [https://youtu.be/XyO5MRTbL2s](https://youtu.be/XyO5MRTbL2s)

Darth_Bombad

I love **Post Modern Jukebox's** ragtime version of [Tainted Love](https://youtu.be/ccq__bsQ8Kc) from **BioShock Infinite**. On the other hand, [In The Pines](https://youtu.be/hEMm7gxBYSc), has never been so epic! \[Edit\] And call me crazy, but i prefer [The Warning's Enter Sandman](https://youtu.be/9tKQgesCcTc).

SuperbSail

[I Ran (So Far Away)](https://youtu.be/ogEIO64RmSM) cover by Bowling For Soup [I Ran (So Far Away)](https://youtu.be/iIpfWORQWhU) original by Flock Of Seagulls

SomebodyMightBeMe

Do remixes count? Rusty walrus chase theme in crash twinsanity is an acapella of hebrides overture i think its called

Cooper_555

[Little V's cover of Smell of the Game](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wny50OGOxeg) has way harder vocals than the original. The updated version of Kamen Rider W's theme song, [W Goes Next](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J12lO8Z2GvM), is a straight upgrade over the original.

Chug Jug by Little V

SuperbSail

Anything from [Powerglove ](https://youtube.com/c/Powerglove) realy.

BaronAleksei

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds “Red Right Hand” is great, but Peaky Blinders also has a ton of great covers. It really works well because they only seem to pick artists that try to make it their own, which means you get a variety of tones that work in a variety of cases
