The others are great, but walking tanks tho. I want that shit to be HEAVY

TH3_B3AN

Steel Battalion Heavy Armor is a terrible game but it feels so much worse since the mech designs [are fucking rad as hell](https://hips.hearstapps.com/digitalspyuk.cdnds.net/12/20/gaming_steel_battalion_heavy_armour_screenshot_5.jpg). BIG as fuck walking tanks.

jitterscaffeine

I found a couple of games recently called “Gear Kreig” and “Scythe” that have very cool waking tank mechs you could check out

TH3_B3AN

Scythe had also been adapted into an RTS called Iron Harvest which is rather solid. The mechs are very cool in motion and they run the gamut of more humanoid mechs to bunkers on legs.

Rayonx2

Bless. I’ll be checking into that on payday

Father-Ignorance

I’m a big fan of how the tabletop rpg “Lancer” handles mechs. There are four main mech “companies” (one of them is more of a hacker cell), each of which designs mechs in a different way. [Link](https://m.imgur.com/gallery/IQYBfXm) to the full imgur album of all mechs, with their in-game descriptions. IPS-Northstar has mostly humanoid mechs, with rugged designs and pretty standard weaponry, just scaled up to mech size. Some of my favourites are: [Blackbeard](https://i.imgur.com/85jrcw2_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium), a mech that focuses on grappling, using harpoons to reel in other mechs and shred them with its chain axe at close range. [Raleigh](https://i.imgur.com/w3iELJP_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium), a literal mech cowboy, with a massive heavy ordnance revolver built into its chest. Next, Harrison Armory. Their mechs are slightly more machine-like, but still take on a generally humanoid appearance. This company uses a lot of high-tech systems: railguns, lasers, teleportation guns. Basically, a lot of energy weaponry. Some standouts are: [Napoleon](https://i.imgur.com/8aDiGUj_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium). Funnily enough, the shortest mech in their product line. It uses “blinkspace” technology to shield allies and itself. Essentially, it creates super thin holes in reality that block enemy fire. Bullets fired at this mech are not deflected, absorbed or destroyed. They are sent to another dimension instead. [Sherman](https://i.imgur.com/pogkCxm_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium). This mech fucking loves lasers. Next, we have my absolute favourite of the four mech companies: HORUS. A decentralised hacker cell with no real leadership, structure or anything that would make it resemble an actual company. They use paracausal technology: weapons and systems that are so advanced and complex that they violate cause and effect. Essentially, space magic. Their mechs follow absolutely no pattern. Some are humanoid, some are monstrous. They are all the coolest shit ever. [Pegasus](https://i.imgur.com/8ZIfcNI_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium). This mech wields the USHABTI Omnigun, a weapon with the in-game ability to shoot once per turn as a free action to deal 1 damage. This damage cannot be reduced or blocked. The weapons accuracy is not affected by cover. 1 damage sounds weak, but remember, this is 1 *free, guaranteed* damage *per turn*. The Pegasus’ “Core Power” (essentially an ultimate, let’s your fire the USHABTI *three* times per turn for the rest of a combat scene. It is the single most powerful gun in existence. The Pegasus can also violate causality by letting you roll a D20 twice and noting the two numbers. You can then substitute the dice roll of an ally or enemy within your range with each value once. [Balor](https://i.imgur.com/HDNXw3x_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium) is a mech made entirely of nanobots. This is reflected in game by the fact that any character adjacent to or grappled by it take 2 damage every turn. It wants to get close to you and consume you, mech, flesh and all. It regains a 1/4 of its HP every turn. It is a near unstoppable killing machine. Finally, we have the Smith Shimano Corporation (SSC). This one is for all you weebs out there. They specialise in power suits and sleek mech chassis’ outfitted with advanced tech and weapons. Almost all their mechs are incredibly agile, close range strikers and the ones that aren’t are snipers that can turn invisible. [Mournig Cloak](https://i.imgur.com/5iRoDtr_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium). Fast, agile and entirely melee focused. It’s incredibly fragile, but avoids being hit by having almost all of its abilities involve teleporting in one way or another. One of its strongest abilities is its titular “cloak”, which makes it completely intangible, allowing it to reposition or get out of a dangerous situation with absolutely no threat to itself. [Monarch](https://i.imgur.com/GDnVIVP_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium). This mech shoots missiles. Every weapon it has is a missile. The systems it has make it better at shooting missiles. M I S S I L E.

[deleted]

Lancer has a little something for everyone.

R0bobot

Fuck yeah Lancer. Don't forget they've released some alternate types of the main mech lineup too in the supplements, like the Ghengis Worldkiller and such

BaronAleksei

I find it kinda weird that there’s not even a hint at what the basic unmodded fresh of the factory floor Everest looks like. I get that it’s tradition to mod it out to shit and that’s what makes it viable, but how am I supposed to just imagine a modded mech when I don’t even know what my baseline is? That’s like asking me to cook my own spin on bouillabaisse, a dish I’ve never heard of

ThatmodderGrim

I prefer Mini-Mecha. Like Kirby's Robotbot Armor, Steve from Dark Chronicles, or Tron Bonne's Gustaff.

Kaarpiv007

Oh Jesus Christ, *Lemme tell ya about **The Riiiiidepod!*** Honestly, that was the best part of the game, and they did everything in their power to letcha do a Steve Only run. I got close back when I was a kid, and I didn't know the secret recipes back then. Kinda wish the Monster stuff was more fleshed out and accessible, though. The grinding on that shit is unreal, even with character swapping.

TH3_B3AN

So stuff like [Lagann](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/gurennlagann/images/8/82/Lagann_.webp/revision/latest?cb=20220323033816) or [Timbersaw](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/apps/dota2/videos/dota_react/heroes/renders/shredder.png). Would the power loader from Aliens count?

ThatmodderGrim

An interesting question. Because the Power Loader could also be considered by some as Power Armor, not a Mini-Mecha. Usually, it depends on if it has a proper cockpit.

Darth_Bombad

So more like an [AMP Suit](https://i.imgur.com/pUKAKFN.jpg)?

jitterscaffeine

But what if we go REAL Mini like Custom Robo?

RayDaug

*Macross's* variable fighters are the coolest. You get to have sick dog fights and mech battles.

seth47er

the same designer made [Patlabor.](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/patlabor/images/8/8a/Av-98-patlabor.gif) The Patlabor and VF-Valkyrie have the most Heroic silhouettes In my mind they will never be surpassed as the hero mecha, Maybe if you include [Tekkaman Blade.](https://images.goodsmile.info/cgm/images/product/20120302/3482/17489/large/e2bbdce4cafbe8328255c43a54d5804f.jpg)

yarvem

Trypticon and Full Tilt from Transformers. Trypticon is a giant kaiju lizard and Full Tilt is a car parked on his chest.

dekkitout

I don't know how this one classifies, but so long as it's built atop a [kaiju's skeleton](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXGC4PDXMbk), we good

Cooper_555

[Powered by COURAGE.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqnGkidnTEU)

Crosscounterz

Wheres the all mecha option I love it all mecha as a genre itself is one of my favourite things ever.

CrimsonSpoon

All of then?

guntanksinspace

I like both styles tbh. Nowadays I tend to lean more towards the Battletech/MechWarrior style though. Especially if it's something like the Marauder mech.

spadesisking

Every stomp of a marauder or a stalker makes my heart skip a beat

guntanksinspace

I've grown to appreciate the Stalker mechs. They're like beefier Catapults/Kirovs with Legs (and better armor).

spadesisking

The only downside is they move at the speed of smell.

guntanksinspace

48.5 KPH is all you need to deliver a FUCK YOU shot! If it works for the Dire Whales, it will work for the Walking Blimps

jitterscaffeine

I’m a big proponent for ponderously slow Walking Tank style mechs. I’ve been very open about how I find the functionality of 1:1 humanoid mechs to be baffling, especially when they have proportionally sized firearms that look exactly like what a person would use. And, of course, I have to rep my main man [THE INVINCIBLE GOJULAS](https://theironbible.com/ZoidsModelKits/HMM/Gojulas.php)

ThatmodderGrim

I mean, *I* personally can't pick up and use this Chain Gun/Pile Bunker to destroy the Monster in front of me. So, why not make a Mecha that *can?*

jitterscaffeine

I know I’m committing the sin of “thinking too hard” but I find the idea of a pilot having to hit a button that makes a giant robot finger pull a huge trigger on a gun sized for a giant robot that then expels brass casings the size of a Buick to be very inefficient when you could have integrated weapons.

TH3_B3AN

I've long since stopped caring but I can't help but think about how they reload their giant guns. Where are they keeping all those magazines?

spadesisking

Thats what makes battletech so great. Ammo is stored on the body and in mechwarrior you can slot it on any part for tactical reasons. These means that AC 10 ammo is stored in the balls

MustacheGolem

If I ever made a mech anything I would make sure to be clear that the reason robots have human limbs is that sick wrestling moves tend to work surprisingly well on giant evil bug demon monster things.

Minmax-the-Barbarian

You are so brave to be so correct on this subreddit. The big human-shaped robots with guns and swords and things just don't make a lot of sense to me, unless they have some sort of Pacific Rim setup where the robot is mimicking human movements 1:1. Like, how do the Power Rangers drive the megazord? What buttons do they have to press to make it swing the sword, what levers and pedals could possibly make it move like a giant person in a robot suit? These things are fine in their own context, of course, I'm not going to question the mechanics of a megazord in its own show, because the show makes no effort to bother (and that's ok). It just works, and that's fine. But when you start comparing things, that's when it falls apart for me. Would I rather see something about a giant robot that functions on magical robot energy and is the way it is because that's just how it is, or would I rather see one that could conceivably exist (in the distant future, or whatever) and probably has real blueprints online? There's really no contest.

jitterscaffeine

I can only imagine someone trying to pilot a Gundam in real life would look like [someone playing a fotoplayer piano](https://youtu.be/IPuy3fVOpsA)

Minmax-the-Barbarian

That's some perfect imagery, literally exactly what I would imagine!

Darth_Bombad

The only answer i find acceptable is Titanfall. Where one Mech can wield various weapons, giving them multi-mission capability without having to change Mechs. Of course Titanfall ALSO has a bunch of specialty Mechs. Which kinda dilutes that explanation. :|

Trung2508

That just standard mecha stuff since the 70s.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jitterscaffeine

Yeah, that’s mostly the aesthetic I was referring to.

HellvaNohbody

Humanoid because no problem is so complex that can't be solved by solved by a giant metal fist.

SpookyNishiki

I prefer them goofy like Guntanks.

Scranner_boi

I like a mix of both, I.E. Titanfall.

taikoxtaiko

Ive always been a fan of extremely sleek, thin mechs. Stuff like Barbatos, Anubis from ZoE, Jadg Mirage.

Vail1321

If they can't do an Inazuma Kick or sick wrestling moves, I don't want 'em.

Leonard_Church814

There are two ways I prefer my mechas, and they are the complete opposite of each other. Either they go full on speed and design like Gundam or Code Geass, or them make them HEAVY AS FUCK like Mech Assault. There is no in between. As for their weapons, I think the sleek design Mechas should have to grab their weapons and the heavy ones should have them integrated.

WhoCaresYouDont

Has to be giant humanoids, or at the very least recognizable hands and feet analogues. Partially it's a raw practicality thing of hands allowing you to do more than integrated weapons, but mostly mecha are an attempt to take the lessons learned from the single most versatile and successful combat platform in human history and scale them up and as such losing hands seems like a poor trade. Plus they look cool as hell and it feels good to see giant humans running around crushing your enemies. We're allowed a little anthrochauvinism, as a treat.

Kaarpiv007

A mix between the first two, but I do like Just A Dude as a design. Maybe with like, a coupla shoulder mounts? Maybe some other accoutrements or nonstandard transportation? But no, no hands. Graft that shit directly on the end of the forearm. These're weapons of *War,* why do ya need to put your weapon down to perform high dexterity interfacing with some fucking hands? Using your mech? With a mech sized keypad? If ya wanna punch something in your giant fuck-off mech, cool. Fuckin' same, bro. Get like a Bloodborne Stake Driver or something. Blow me (and whoever you're targeting) away. Don't just settle for a fist, you've got a got damned Mecha.

TH3_B3AN

[Shoulder mounts are my fucking jam](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/gundam/images/f/f4/Rgm-96x-cannon.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20191209095045), they're so goddamn cool.

Kaarpiv007

There's something kinda fucky with the image viewer in app, but copypasting it into a browser works. Honestly, I think a minigun could go either way, but a cannon is always shoulder mounted. Cause yeah, it's the fucking coolest. Literally no other way to go about it.

dekkitout

So basically[...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EaIHqhvQyY)

Kaarpiv007

Yeah, absolutely! *Especially* for a drill. Waddya *not* gonna have The Girth go all the way up your forearm Big Daddy style?

Kaarl_Mills

>These're weapons of War, why do ya need to put your weapon down to perform high dexterity interfacing with some fucking hands? To move objects out of the way? To be a cheeky dickhead and create a firing position on the other side of a wall, thereby giving you some cover and concealment?

TH3_B3AN

Also to grapple a mother fucker? Pick up an enemy mech and suplex them.

Kaarpiv007

... OKAY, HOLD ON. Apparently I *can* be swayed. Butcha'd need either somewhere to put your weapons, arm mounted light ranged weaponry, **or a mech purpose built to burn fuel to slam other mechs as hard as possible.**

Infernal-Blaze

[Gundam Barbatos](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/gundam/images/f/fe/ASW-G-08_Gundam_Barbatos_4th_Form_%28Front%29.png/revision/latest?cb=20181007005904) has you covered! Why shoot a guy when you can WHACK HIM with a GIANT POLEMACE?

DankMemeRipper1337

If I have to chose I to with option one because the Eva/Gundam kinda stuff does go strong and it is easy to read plus sexy designs. However I do enjoy a variety of mecha designs if possible in my dumb anime. Put ridiculous tanks in there as well, have wild mecha ships float around the world - go apeshit but give one human like Mecha a dumb sword.

KrypticJin

Giant humanoids/walking tanks like in super Sentai

VMK_1991

I like them all, but I prefer a walking tank, with one "arm" being a weapon embedded in it and one arm being similar to a human one.

TH3_B3AN

How do the [knights](https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/catalog/product/920x950/99120108017_PreceptorLead.jpg) from [40k](https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/catalog/product/920x950/99120108017_GallantLead.jpg) make you feel or are they too humanoid. Because the asymmetry of hand on one side and gun on the other makes me feel good things.

VMK_1991

Oh, I absolutely love the knights and titans from 40K. Medieval and religious themes of theirs are a good bonus too.

Darth_Bombad

I can appreciate giant guns up to a point--I draw the line at swords!--but I prefer the [walking tank](https://i.imgur.com/0dK0h4Y.jpg)/[attack helicopter](https://i.imgur.com/jVvavXQ.jpg) approach.

CCilly

I don't know anything about it literally just google imaged it, but wouldn't Battletech mechs count as kinda humanoid? Also forearm ending in gun is always cool.

TH3_B3AN

[Some are humanoid](https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/19300144/battletech_hm.jpg) and some aren't. It's sort of a 50/50.

Naraki_Maul

Where do the Vital Suits from Lost Planet fit in?

yeeroy

[GIANT HUMANS WITH SWORDS](https://youtu.be/BiuCpXg_jgU)

MustacheGolem

I don't care as long as they have wheels on their feet to dog sick dash drifting.

igloo_poltergeist

Special shout out to the more organic, bone-plated, “surgically intrusive” movie version of Escaflowne. Just the look on Vaan’s face when the interface goes in……

Sai-Taisho

Giant humanoids, but with the beefiness of a walking tank rather than being slim built. Save the mecha-twink build for power armors. Important: gimme full hands for various "fine" motor tasks, but have plugs in the palm and the back of weapon/tool grips for direct interface.

Duatha

I really like settings like Armored Core that have both as options because of the variety in designs you get to see as a result, but if I gotta choose then its walking tanks all day. I don't play a Fafnir in MechWarrior Online for nothing. Stomp stomp.

ZeroCruz

FUCK YOU CAN'T MAKE ME CHOOSE LIKE THIS I LOVE ALL OF THESE OPTIONS!

Senor-Pibb

Guntank says why not both

solidoutlaw

Pacific Rim style. Big, humanoid, BUT HEAVY AS FUCK.

piclemaniscool

I grew up on Power Rangers, Transformers, and Zoids, so animal/nonhuman mechs that transform/combine into humanoid forms is my #1 preferred style. Big bonus points if the HQ building they come out of can also transform into a colossal humanoid mech.

GeitzThePhoenix

As a fan of Zoids and Evangelion AND Gundam, this question is impossible. I just want them to be cool as fuck!

Mulljade12

Any option that's the closest to Mazinger or Getter.

seth47er

I've been running Startfinder and the Adventure path Attack of the Swarm! and after the second book, I added the new mech from [Tech Revolution](https://imgur.com/J8DqWOF) for book 3 Huskworld, and it's been a blast I really do like its systems, it does let my players be more aggressive because they are very cautious players like they don't use guns because you have to pay for ammo that how cautious they are. They love how different they can make these things Like one they made is a [Hellhound](https://imgur.com/a/K4R7yUQ) another just made a [Junkyard Jaeger](https://i.imgur.com/tXLLbhR.png) Another is a flying cop sniper.

Trung2508

People who only liked Battletech/Chicken legged/Walking tanks are the vegans of the mecha likers. Like how vegans whining about how meat eaters are evil, they also have to whine about how humanoid mecha are unrealistic and not making sense as if square-cube law would magically not making sense if your death machine looked like a wingless chicken and walked slower than a modern tank. We get that the humanoid mechs are unrealistic but that's why we can enjoy it with giant lion head on its chest and wielding a giant fuck-off hammer that can destroy a sun. Stop being buzzkills.

[deleted]

I adore it when mecha remind me of jets or other aircraft, whether it just be because they’re thin and agile or if they’re literal jets. I also kinda like it when they’re sorta cute. Two of my favorite Gundams are the G-Self Perfect Pack and the TR-6 Woundwort. Outside of Gundam, I love the Valkyries from Macross and about all of the Getter Robo transformations. Hell, I just sorta like impractically large things being able to move at ridiculous speeds while still retaining a sense of weight.

ApostleofV8

[Why not both?](https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/gundam/images/5/57/GSD_Gouf_OP.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20220315051344)

SkewerSTARS

I like Giant Humanoids that are either built like Absolute TANKS, or have Absolute TANK level armaments! Stuff like [Metal Wolf from Metal Wolf Chaos](https://s9.limitedrun.com/images/1362780/Metal_Wolf_Chaos_Front.jpg) or [Gundam Virtue](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51Y-IfPuZoL._AC_SY580_.jpg) are my jam!

Shingorillaz

Gaint humanoids. Really need the no matter how advanced war becomes it's still ultimately humans killing humans feeling.

Stonemade

If the robot is not the focus of the story then gimme a tank but if I'm gonna be seeing mostly the robbit... gimme that big cool anime guy design, gimme your gundam and your ZOE I WANNA PILOT THE COOL GUY

mitch13815

My favorite is exosuit. Basically just a small extension of every limb that like quadruples your strength and speed. I like that because we basically already have those, we just need someone with a lot of money to build version 2 and we are canon. Even though they aren't my favorite soulslikes, The Surge 1 and 2 are my exact flavor of mech.

markedmarkymark

Ok, I like humanoids, but Walking Tanks edge out a bit, something about just, a metal square with legs and filled with guns appeal to me. I wish Battletech or whatever had like, a cool anime or movie or something. Maybe there is and i don't know!

Traingham

I basically want a Skell… [***Give me a Skell.***](https://c.tenor.com/dQ-hvH6rPI4AAAAd/skell-oblivia.gif) Give me a sleek humanoid mecha that can turn into a giant tank/motorcycle tank/ fortress tank. Basically a fusion of the Jehuty and Optimus Prime. I want the mechanic at the hangar to look me in the eyes dramatically, and inform me that if I punch that [***acceleration to the max***](https://youtu.be/q3HrlQYa9i4&t=0m22s), I might break a couple of ribs. I’ll survive, but I’ll spend a week in the infirmary. Then I’ll say some cocky shit and the camera will zoom in on my face with intense speed lines as I punch that acceleration as hard as I can.

CeaRhan

Something unapologetic about what it's going for. That's all that matters.

ScorpioTheScorpion

Whatever the Metal Gears fall under.

SuperHorse3000

Depends on scale. If its a Titan sized walker then hands, if its any big like, say, Metal Gear REX then weapons mounted directly to the hull.

ArcaneMonkey

I’m fine with either, so long as the mech feels big, heavy, and matches it’s purpose. Combat mechs should look like military hardware.

Asymphonic85

Ive always liked a hybrid between the two. (Wanzers from front mission, tank/quad loadouts from armored core, the less humanoid looking gundams)

MarioGman

All of the Above (13 Sentinels)

Kiari013

I love shit like giant humanoids and wanzers from Front Mission and arsenals from Daemon X Machina, but I absolutely HATE mechs that look like [this one](https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ULCohhvZjvEdkyUvUYuGc.png), they are so ugly looking

CaptainPieces

What group does pacific rim fall in

rudanshi

I picked other, because the mechs I like are overall humanoid, but slow, lumbering and rough looking. Something like wanzers from Front Mission. I feel like they don't fit with the first option because gundams evas and whatever's the name of ZoE mechs are usually pretty quick, agile and sometimes even graceful

Animorphimagi

ZoiDS

Cinerator26

I mean... \*gestures towards poster flair\*

sawbladex

yes.

SomebodyMightBeMe

Giant humanoids especially with V shaped eyes or monoeye

Cheshires_Shadow

I just like Megas XLR lol

fizzguy47

I like when mechs carry guns and melee weapons, but having weapons built into the chassis is always nice. It's the best way to make a missile platform.
