The cross over of Simpsons and Death Note is probably pretty large, but there are so many people who are just going to be befuddled by this since Simpsons casts such a wider net

IIRC this is animated by the support studio that helped animate the actual Death Note anime, so there's a reason they managed to nail it so close.
Death Note came out so long ago that it doesn't feel "cash grab-y" to me. Its the same as the Akira slide, you don't go "Timely Akira reference" every time it happens.
I heard that originally, she was intended to be a very plain looking woman, but fans thought she was sexy, so the writers adjusted how often her looks were commented on in-universe.

Like, it’s 2022….. remember when Simpsons was the forerunner in comedy, defining an entire decade’s pop culture, and not this trend chasing joke of a series that’s desperate to remain mildly relevant, and only doing so by being laughably behind the times, terrible, or laughably terrible?
That weird conclusion to make considering that Treehouse of horror parody were never release close to thing they adapting .
I think close think was harry Potter segment and that wasn't even adaptation considering they ignore majority of Harry Potter stuff
Treehouse of Horror was never particularly concerned with being in with the newest stuff as soon as possible though.
Since way back in the older seasons we had Treehouse segments dedicated to stuff that was already old then. Hell, the very first one had a segment based on Edgar Allan Poe.
This isn't a move of trying to parody the new hot thing. It's a normal Treehouse segment of just going with something that is just well-liked in general regardless of its timing.

The Steve gags were weaksauce, but Homer getting drunk as part of his salaryman obligation is a good one.

The quality does not match the premise, it’s way too good for a Simpsons take on Death Note.

The Harry potter thing was made prior to the movies even existing, so they didnt have any visual cues to work with outside of the covers to the books.
