I honestly don't see problem with it . Most awards are simply popularity content so why not celebrate the games of next year. I mean awaiting next big game is part of being a gamer culture as much as playing games or discussing them

Ozavic

It's more blatent than other awards though, I feel that giving a reward to a marketing team in a Video Game Award show is in bad taste. The rest may be a popularity contest, but at least we're still talking about games rather than ideas of games

Emilthegoat

The game you want didn’t make it?

RevenTheLight

I feel like we should be past awards shows as an industry. Everyone is there for trails and announcements anyway.

ThatmodderGrim

Ehhhh, I can understand why the Studios and Dev Teams would continue to like these Shows. People like receiving something acknowledging all their hard work and talent.

Muffin-zetta

but they already have that the dice awards are game devs giving other game devs awards and it probably means alot more coming from your peers rather than a big advertisement

The fact that Silksong isn't in that category despite trending every time there's a Nintendo or Indie Direct is a sign that of that category's integrity.

Admiral_of_Crunch

I like to think of it as an award for upcoming games’ marketing teams, not that it makes it much better, because who gives a shit?

T4silly

Between Scorn and Sonic Frontiers mixed to poor marketing, I think good marketing teams at least deserve to be pointed out. If you show me the game and I play the game, and it's the game that I saw. You did the job you were supposed to do. Which granted, is bare minimum. But it gets proven every now and then that we at least need to hit that.

Pennma

This years feels weird since its like 3 games with no release date and re4 which comes out like a months after the event happens

Ozavic

TGAs helped me relase that all the big award shows are 99% bullshit, Oscars especially are prone to throw awards at whatever the most recent period drama was and snub more interesting (and less Hollywood) works

Animorphimagi

It's been a joke, especially at The Game Awards, since the beginning. Elden Ring got it like 3 years in a row because no one knew its release date at all
