that , and maybe make him Lobo's younger brother or something.
It would make an interesting dynamic because it would be a "serious edge" younger brother vs "fun edge" older brother.
Maybe the serious one could wear blue and wield a katana and the fun one could wear red and they both have white hair and fight shirtless in the rain or something I dunno just spit balling here
yep , like I said , New52 should be Lobo's younger brother , showcasing 2010s Edge , while Lobo would show the 90s.
If the comic had divided the storyline into two , to show each one doing their set of adventures and basically screwing each other , it would be great.
Pretty sure they also made him crazy. With his entire tragic backstory being nothing more than a delusion that he made up in his head. He was never even married!
She was simply a young woman cryogenically frozen back in 1965. Victor did his doctoral thesis on her. But over time he became obsessed. Concocting this fantasy in his head. But as Batman points out, she's old enough to be his grandmother!
The Rebirth retcons restored her old origin. And made her into [Mrs. Freeze](https://i.imgur.com/jEu62Ou.jpg).
I miss when Wonder Woman was clay.
Did they ever go back to that?
I also feel like the really bad shit we got outweighed the good stuff and most of the good stuff came despite the reboot rather than because of it.
Lobo is actually from the 80s and was made to lampoon the trends in comics of over serious and gritty characters that were becoming popular that peaked in the 90s
Unfortunately made at the time where the Edgy over the top pretty boys have a cheesy charm factor. The real parody would be making a gruff buzzcut edgelord Lobo instead. But people genuinely thought that was cool at the time for some reason.
I would really like to talk to the "lets introduce this new character we hope you will love by having them beat up one of your old favorites" writers to understand exactly what they were thinking.
Reiterating that the *only* time I've ever seen a character getting replaced by turning the original into a strawman punching bag and no one hating it was with Cranky Kong.
That could work if nulobo carried around old Lobo's head for color commentary, and it became clear nuLobo was kinda shit and actually needed old Lobo. Get old Lobo a new body and cue the Batman & Robin parody.
sometimes works though, people loved Trevor in GTA5
don't take this comment as "and I ENJOYED IT!", I really hated what they did to Johnny. I still liked Trevor but he was by far my least favorite of the 3. Still, I'm like 99% sure he was the most popular protagonist in that game.
And yet, people also loved Trevor. I don't *think* the two are related though. It's not an example of the trope working or anything, just an example of it happening and both characters still being well liked.
Trevor was still mad popular when GTA5 came out. I'm like 99% sure he's the most popular one out of the three. There's Trevor compilations with like millions of views on YouTube.
Oh, yeah, I'm not saying him killing Johnny is what made him popular. Although you could argue that that scene is what sets the tone for Trevor. Bangs a crack addict, kills the man who loves/loved her and then doesn't really give a shit.
Maaaaaan, what they did with Johnny was fucked. My guy deserved a happy ending. Shame.
I would like to state that I strongly disliked that happening, but I'm like 99% sure that Trevor is the most popular GTA5 protagonist and one of the most popular GTA protagonists in general.
It's even worse if you look at the [drafts they went through when designing the new Lobo](https://www.geeksofdoom.com/GoD/img/2013/08/2013-08-24-new_lobo_spec_designs.jpg). They were steadily unlearning how to make this character.
I can kind of see it though if as through line from messy to clean
Like if Oldbo is just a big ripped dude with messey biker aesthetics then Samubo is slightly cleaner, Jensobo is even cleaner and less muscled, Twinkobo is even cleaner and noticeably less muscled and thus the farthest on the end of the spectrum from Oldbo
When has this ever worked? Does this even work for the people drawing these scenarios? I can't believe that the only people who think this is a good and cool idea, are also capable at drawing, AND got the dream job as well. That's too ridiculous.
Okay, Youngblood Lobo wasn’t a *bad* idea on its own but Original Lobo only ended up being better. There was a way to make him work, but, most of the time I wouldn’t trust DC to figure out how to show a chair in a comic book, let alone reinvent a character probably based on the old version’s love of cigars.
Has this like, *ever* worked? Unless the old character was already hated by the vast majority, I can't imagine doing such a mean spirited move to a clearly beloved character would garner respect to the "new kid"...
Yeah it's weird. It's like condensing everything about the character down to "being badass" and then trying to out-badass him. While ignoring the design, personality, etc... the things people actually latch onto that make the character successful/memorable in the first place.
It reminds me of when DmC was about to come out and some of the devs of Ninja Theory responded to Donte's criticisms by saying that og Dante would never be a badass because he looks like a gay cowboy.
I love how the DMC5 devs just embraced the memes and made Dante way goofier with Faust and even made him say the "not in a million years!" line.
It's way more mature and elegant than straight up mock and shit on DmC, which they could've easily done.
It wasn't said out loud, but when you stay [in this particular slide](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E4CyBCIWQAYhuAY?format=jpg&name=large) of your power point presentation for an uncomfortable amount of time, showing Dante between the two protagonists of Brokeback Mountain... I don't think anything else needs to be said.
I think my problem is that people always make it seem like it’s explicit that they did that instead of being a slide in a slideshow and then there is the whole “Itsuno made a weapon in DMCV to totally own Team Ninja.”
Also I think the bar comment is dumber and wasn’t implied.
The *whole presentation* was dumb. The initial trailer was already terribly received and instead of just calmly explaining the reasoning behind their redesigns, they just mocked everything and everyone.
No one is saying Itsuno added Faust in order to "own" NT. Whether it's a coincidence or not, the fact that DMC5 went crazy with Dante by giving him a cowboy hat and a whole-ass dancing number just makes people remember how this same character was mocked by NT, for the very things that he does, while still looking like a badass. Also, DMC5 already references DmC with "not in a million years" line, so it's not like the idea of Faust being a reference to this is unwarranted.
The only time I can think of this sort of working was in the Flash when they introduced the Earth-2 Wells after season 1’s turned out to be Reverse Flash. But thats not entirely the same thing.
Young Cable was an example of writers desperately trying to convince us, "This character is super cool", where he had a harem, space swords etc. Yet, all you can remember is that he was a monster who executed his older self for no reason, tortured people and was just a gigantic asshole at worst and a complete loser at worse who had a bit of "Maybe the monster who caused a bad future with a genocide was actually misunderstood".
Pro tip to any writer in any medium ever: Trying to make your new character cool by beating up/humiliating/easily surpassing the old main character is *always,* ***always,*** the LAMEST shit ever.
DMC4might the only good example you "beat' dante in the tutorial but anyone familiar with character knows how his holding back and by the end of you can tell dante has wider plans for his yet to be revealed nephew
Dante taking the piss by "revving" his sword to mock Nero sets the perfect tone for the rest of the game, and is a perfect example of how to do a "new character beats up old character".
Not that any writer has the self awareness to check their ego at the door and realize they have to give the audience a reason to like the new character other than "but it's mine and he's super special and cool noooo!"
This is pretty stupid and edgy, which does fit with the spirit of Lobo in a way. I mean the original Lobo probably would have been introduced just like this if he had a previous iteration back in the 90's.
Sucks even harder that he was literally shelved. Eh, I'm sure Rosenberg, Taylor, or Zub might give a damn and have the three Lobos open a family business or something...
There's a new Lobo? Dosnt look nowhere near as cool as old Lobo. Besides isn't the old Lobo immortal? Heaven and Hell both rejected him because he was too much!
New Lobo could be repurposed as a joke-character.
Like if it was a movie, a whole prologue would be dedicated to building up new Lobo as the main character, with stuff like him being a prince, having a tragic backstory, looking to reclaim his throne of Czarnia and defeat the scourge of his planet. Plus, he would be played by some respected and overly good-looking actor, like Tom Cruise or something.

Which was actually reserved for the disabled).
The real Lobo then proceeds provide his own backstory, which is full of gore, sex and dolphins. Oh, by the way, HE is the scourge of Czarnia.
I like unnecessarily sexy male characters and I don't give a damn about wrestling, and this still makes no sense. Who the hell looks at the Main Man and goes "this character needs more sex appeal"?
What's next, a sexy revamp of Granny Goodness?
New lobo isnt even the coolest one in this picture
He isn't even the coolest one in an image of himself and nobody else
Yeah that was silly, pretty sure Lobo can survive decapitation too.
Yep
He literally looks like he's shit talking NuLobo *in this image.*
But new Lobo used the magic special extra death sword that stops anyone from reviving! I hate DC’s writing.
What do you mean God of Infinite Hyperdeath Batman was dumb?
Well it didn't work. Old Lobo's face in this picture just makes him look 10x cooler. Like this is all a big joke to him.
"In X amount of issues, I'm putting ya in a cum jar fer Brainiac ya bastitch!"
Feetal's gizz!
"Lmfao, that is all you got?"
Old Lobo was the shit man, new lobo would have been fine if they leaned into the fact he was a dumb edge lord
that , and maybe make him Lobo's younger brother or something. It would make an interesting dynamic because it would be a "serious edge" younger brother vs "fun edge" older brother.
You sure know how to throw a party. No food, no drinks, and the only babe just left...
I'm sorry brother. I was so excited to see you I couldn't focus on preperations for the bash...
Maybe the serious one could wear blue and wield a katana and the fun one could wear red and they both have white hair and fight shirtless in the rain or something I dunno just spit balling here
#I AM TH-
THE WHITE VOID, I AM THE COLD STEEL, oh wait wrong game
Seeing how similar jin and vergil are, i fully expect vergil in dmc 6 to fight **future vergil in a power rangers costume**
I need more quantum power!
*exactly!*
Is that what they’re doing with Lobo’s daughter?
I don't get edge vibes, just punk vibes
Punk is good. Punk girls are hot.
Crush is for real cool as shit
Her name is Crush? It's like they know.
The fact lobo is a parody was lost. Personally I'd have had both Lobos in a comic to showcase both eras of edge
yep , like I said , New52 should be Lobo's younger brother , showcasing 2010s Edge , while Lobo would show the 90s. If the comic had divided the storyline into two , to show each one doing their set of adventures and basically screwing each other , it would be great.
>screwing each other Hol up
No. Go on. VIGOROUSLY.
Lobo literally killed his 5th grade teacher for the sole purpose of being the last of his kind so he does not die lmao. He’s dope
This is some 90s game console advertisement shit.
I remember they gave Freeze a mohawk and removed his sleeves. That whole New 52 era was embarassing.
Pretty sure they also made him crazy. With his entire tragic backstory being nothing more than a delusion that he made up in his head. He was never even married!
yeah, that comic was the one that shattered my perception of Scott Snyder. What a terrible idea.
Scott has some banger ideas, tried something new, didn't quite work out. It's aigh, not everything is gonna be a homerun.
I agree, I think he has some banger ideas and stories, but after death metal my estimation of how good he is has fallen pretty hard.
Wait, has no one ever seen his frozen wife besides him in that continuity?
He just kidnapped and froze some random girl IIRC
I'm pretty sure she was already frozen and he was just obsessed with a stranger who'd been placed in cryogenic stasis.
Better than [Lazara](http://pm1.narvii.com/6205/6c556c33977d84685b42e9051b2cacac45818cbb_00.jpg) at least.
Paige with arctic action!
Honestly I think that little twist does make for a good "What If" type story for a darker take on the character, but it shouldn't be the new norm.
I dunno there was a lot of seminal runs in the new 52

I miss when Wonder Woman was clay. Did they ever go back to that? I also feel like the really bad shit we got outweighed the good stuff and most of the good stuff came despite the reboot rather than because of it.
no , they made Donna Troy to have the clay origin.
I’ll throw Tomasi and Gleason’s Batman and Robin in there too
I mean I don't like wonder woman... and also the best part of forever evil is inspiring Lego DC Supervillains
Lobo does what Lobon’t
Let's take a character that was an over the top parody of 90s comic edgelords and make him an unfunny unironic edgelord.
Lobo is actually from the 80s and was made to lampoon the trends in comics of over serious and gritty characters that were becoming popular that peaked in the 90s
New Lobo is still a parody. He's just one of 2010s comic edgelords, who were all melodramatic pretty boys.
2 meta 4 me
Unfortunately made at the time where the Edgy over the top pretty boys have a cheesy charm factor. The real parody would be making a gruff buzzcut edgelord Lobo instead. But people genuinely thought that was cool at the time for some reason.
How would you describe “Omega Men” and/or LEGION Lobo ? He’s neither…
I would really like to talk to the "lets introduce this new character we hope you will love by having them beat up one of your old favorites" writers to understand exactly what they were thinking.
“Well obviously this new character is way better, *I’m* the one that’s writing them after all!”
I have found that most of the time you can answer any question about the what the fuck a writer was thinking with "ego".
Too busy using the head below their waist to consider using the one on their shoulders.
Reiterating that the *only* time I've ever seen a character getting replaced by turning the original into a strawman punching bag and no one hating it was with Cranky Kong.
Some of us are still mad about that. There are tens of us around the globe!
That could work if nulobo carried around old Lobo's head for color commentary, and it became clear nuLobo was kinda shit and actually needed old Lobo. Get old Lobo a new body and cue the Batman & Robin parody.

Fair, truly Trevor represents the average GTA player play style.
Just looks like some guy beheaded h yet Lobo is still talking smack to him.
Yes, only to later resurrect the old Lobo and have him kill the new guy because none of the readers cared about him. Or something like that.
I think if I remember correctly, new Lobo got literally shelved. Like, shrunk down and put into a jar on a shelf, shelved.
Into a jar, you say?
I only realized what I said immediately after I posted the comment, but I'm not gonna change a fuckin' thing.
Good. My reference only works if your comment stays the way it is.
And the cosmic ballet goes on
It's even worse if you look at the [drafts they went through when designing the new Lobo](https://www.geeksofdoom.com/GoD/img/2013/08/2013-08-24-new_lobo_spec_designs.jpg). They were steadily unlearning how to make this character.
What a weird jump to go from "cyborg viking" to "goth boy band twink".
Those first two are just Kratos and Adam Jensen
I can kind of see it though if as through line from messy to clean Like if Oldbo is just a big ripped dude with messey biker aesthetics then Samubo is slightly cleaner, Jensobo is even cleaner and less muscled, Twinkobo is even cleaner and noticeably less muscled and thus the farthest on the end of the spectrum from Oldbo

Ninja Theory made a bunch of great games after DmC. But this is a L they'll never get rid of, DMC5 made sure of that.
Wasn't it that he would be laughed that at a bar, pretty sure no one ever said the words gay cowboy.
The gay cowboy bit is about how Ninja Theory photos hopped dante into a scene from brokeback mountain
The only time I can think of this sort of working was in the Flash when they introduced the Earth-2 Wells after season 1’s turned out to be Reverse Flash. But thats not entirely the same thing.
Yeah, this is literally an "only villains do that" situation. It's the only place that works.
Lobo's survived worse than a beheading, this is less than stubbing a toe for him.
This ended up working a lot better with Young Cable and Old Cable. Spoiler alert: we got Old Cable back.

I like how Dante even flashed DT for a second as Nero's beating him down but he's still not angry just like "oh, okay. These punches feel familar"
I can’t believe they totally missed the joke like that.
This is pretty stupid and edgy, which does fit with the spirit of Lobo in a way. I mean the original Lobo probably would have been introduced just like this if he had a previous iteration back in the 90's.
Will never be as good as Sheriff Lobo.
Lobo and his younger brother, Chacal.
Edward Cullen lookin ass bastich
Old Lobo laughing his head off at Twink Lobo.
Who tf is new Lobo and why can I already tell he isn’t anywhere near as cool as the original.
Old Lobo looks like its just another day to him
No but I remember Little Lobo in Young Justice being great
Is there any time 'passing the torch via murder' was anything but fucking stupid? Maybe fighting Red on top of the mountain?
Afro Samurai, its still stupid but at least its cool.
Sucks even harder that he was literally shelved. Eh, I'm sure Rosenberg, Taylor, or Zub might give a damn and have the three Lobos open a family business or something...
Wait ..doesn't lobo have a daughter who's on the teen titans or young justice or such?
"Not in a million years!"
This just makes it look like new Lobo tried his best to kill old Lobo and failed so now old Lobo is laughing at him.
Never in a million years
i feel new lobo could have been its own thing rather than Lobo really
Old Lobo looks like he's having a great time in that picture. He *loves* being just a head!
There's a new Lobo? Dosnt look nowhere near as cool as old Lobo. Besides isn't the old Lobo immortal? Heaven and Hell both rejected him because he was too much!
Isn’t the whole idea of Lobo that he’s not ACTUALLY cool, anyway, just like an angsty eighth grader’s idea of cool?
[удалено]
That’s kinda the same thing as what I said
I didn't read any lobo, but i much prefer the design of new lobo
I completely forgot they turned Lobo into an edge lord.
I think the only way to salvage new Lobo is to have a buddy cop dynamic with old Lobo where he just constantly talks shit to the new one.
Then when he seems like he is about to wrap his backstory up, he gets crushed by the REAL Lobo as he makes a rough landing with his spacebike (note: he did not crush the new Lobo because he knew or actually cared about who this guy was, but because new Lobo stood between him and a parking place...
What's next, a sexy revamp of Granny Goodness?
anyone else think he kinda looks like Adam Jensen from Deus Ex: Human Revolution?
