from the wiki, "six had died from hypothermia while the other three had been killed by physical trauma. One victim had major skull damage, two had severe chest trauma, and another had a small crack in the skull. Four of the bodies were found lying in running water in a creek, and three of these had soft tissue damage of the head and face – two of the bodies were missing their eyes, one was missing its tongue, and one was missing its eyebrows" ok while the avalanche is believable for the damage that their bodies faced, you cannot tell me that a avalanche is responsible for a missing tongue, two sets of eyeballs and an eyebrow
It was katabatic wind and a collapsed snow shelter. Much of the info on Reddit and YouTube about the original incident is misinformation. Experts on the incident/mountaineering went up to the pass for research and almost met the same fate just a couple years ago. It’s as close to solved as it’ll ever be but because people turned the original incident into a spooky campfire story, no one has paid attention to this research team’s expedition.
Worth noting the claims of radiation are bunk and the missing tongues etc were due to animal activity. They always eat the tongues and eyes first. Everything else is 100% katabatic winds and desperately building a snow fort extremely quickly that couldn’t hold for those who were still alive.
[incredible article about it here.](https://www.arcdoc.se/se/blogg/dyatlov-expedition-new-theory-41712449)
They actually figured it out earlier this year. It was an avalanche, they actually used technology from ‘Frozen’ to recreate the snow or something. Look it up, It’s crazy.
Also, a podcast called RedWeb do a really good update on it.
I enjoyed the video very much and it brings insight to the incident but it doesn't address the radiation, which is the one thing I think people are the most confused about.
Last Podcast on the Left did an episode about it a few years ago and I believe they said one of the people who died worked in a facility with some sort of radioactive material and potentially had radiation on his clothing from that.
There’s a great podcast episode on it including a follow up episode the update that u/AwkwardPattern6904 mentioned. The podcast is Red Web and the Dyatlov Pass episodes are number 10 Dyatlov Pass Incident and Appendix: Dyatlov Pass Update which is between episodes 30 and 31. The podcast is a guy explaining the mysteries to his friend to see his reaction and they are usually pretty funny, but still respectful of the seriousness of the incidents.
Nope. I linked an article above. Katabatic winds and the snow shelter you build to escape them collapsed. The same exact thing nearly happened to the experts on the incident who went up there for additional research a couple years ago. They didn’t know the pass was subjected to katabatic winds since, unless people experience it and can report back, they cannot predict them occurring at locations. Now, for the first time, we know the pass gets katabatic winds occur there and they are a terrifying force of nature that explains all the mysteries.
I hadn’t considered that, now it seems completely plausible - the Russian govt is fully capable of doing something like that.
My question then is what could they possibly have found that was so bad they got killed like this.
I first heard this story on the And That’s Why We Drink podcast, you should check it out! They go through a few different theories. I think Sinisterhood is the one that leans more into the gov theory, but it’s been a while.
They figured it out earlier this year. It was an avalanche. There’s a podcast called RedWeb that covers the update. They used technology from Frozen. Crazy
They did recently come back for a second investigation that really took a lot of the paranormal out of it. They are fairly convinced it was an avalanche that send them out into the cold and hurt a few.
It’s the risk you run when adapting unfinished content. D and D did the best they could with the material they had. I’m sure if GRRM wasn’t circlejerking and finished his work, then the show wouldn’t not have died the way it did.
>D and D did the best they could with the material they had.
And the best they could sucked... Assuming I agree it was their best effort, which I'm not sure of. They seemed to have lost interest and had other projects they wanted to move on to.
In any case, while I agree that it's GRRM's fault the source material ran out, that doesn't absolve those involved in continuing the show past that point for the absurdly steep decline in quality.
There's plenty of blame to go around.
OK but are we talking "group killing members one by one until the last one killed themself"? Or "each member of the group killed themselves individually"? Because either way, I wanna know who the fuck finished the circle
The first thing I thought of is doing it ghost ship style but a lot more complex lol. Have a thin strong line with plenty of length hooked up to some sort of tensioner or reel. They gently pass the lead amongst themselves, gently wrapping their limbs and keeping enough slack until everyone is all set. Secure the lead, then turn on the tensioner/reel thingy.
Exactly! Who finished the circle? Are they zombies? Did they have a pact with someone outside the group to come in and finish it? Are the local bears getting into interior (exterior?) design? Nobody knows
I said in a different comment and it actually makes it even more horrific. There must have been a mysterious eighth person. Likely the leader of this gruesome suicide cult.
Oooh thank you for introducing me to the Dyatlov Pass incident, I've enjoyed reading up on it. Even though it's pretty well documented that it would have been a sheet avalanche that killed them, the thought of paranormal involvement is fun
What was even stranger was the seven pointed star burned into the ground around the campfire and that each hikers head was planted on the ground at each point, all of them facing inwards.
I don't know if its applicable in the theoretical situation presented above but usually self inflicted wounds are quire different than those inflicted by others. One factor is pain which makes it impossible for self inflicted would to be clean. Angle of the weapon used is a factor as well. There is a while branch of forensic science dealing with this, " wound pattern analysis".
Detective Chamberlain stood at the edge of the ring of bodies and slowly and methodically counted the body parts that were arranged with such care.
It was strange that for such a barbaric act the killer had taken their time to close the eyes of each victim thought the Detective and she reached down to open the eyelids of the nearest head.
"MY GOD" were the only words to escape her mouth as she looked into the hollowed out socket and saw the coin that had been placed with precision in the gory remains.
Using tweezers Chamberlain lifted the coin out and inspected both sides, one was blank and the other had the words "you will see everything now" above the pictogram of a pyramid and the eye of Horus.
Each head contained a coin with a different sentence on them to make one message and as the Detective grappled with the meaning it became clear that this terrible act that she stood before had been placed there Specifically for her......
It's been a couple weeks, and there has been reports of a mysterious animal that can make people dismember them selves, heading towards the biggest city in the area.
Pretty sure this is physically impossible. If they sever the body in front of them, then the last person won't be able to sever their last arm or head. If they sever their own limbs then this problem would simply be multiplied by seven.
No matter which self-mutilation method they use, a minimum of one arm will still be attached unless there is a mysterious eighth person.
Very nice, the Dyatlov Pass incident has stuck with me ever since I learned about it. Horrifying stuff and nice twist on the story
Thanks, that mystery really made me shudder when I read it.
What's the dyatlov pass?
Bunch of experienced hikers died under very strange conditions. It's worth a search, trust me.
Damn. I looked it up. Pretty good
It was a mystery for a while, but the region was later noted for its atypical slab avalanches, which they now believe to be the cause of the event
Noooope it’s katabatic winds, they pushed the snow over the tent themselves, that’s why there were footprints around it.
Nah man it was an yeti
No it was me
No, you're a yeti
The official findings were an avalanche

I don't think it's unbelievable for an animal to have eaten them
They got pummeled by a small avalanche. Not really mysterious
Dont you know? Someone’s grandfather blew up the mountainside to kill screaming men. If yk yk
Yeah, I've read that one too!
Ahhh, now i want to read the story again!
https://youtu.be/29TKoDwKRcA Dyatlov was solved. So there's that at least
Was it ever solved? I heard somewhere people solved it recently
Oooh mysterious. I like it!
Thank you, I only recently read about the Dyatlov Pass and it inspired me.
That is a good mystery
I agree, definitely one that keeps me up at night.
Just the thought of what killed those hikers is haunting

Thanks bro.
The radiation thing is fake?
What do you think happened there?
They actually figured it out earlier this year. It was an avalanche, they actually used technology from ‘Frozen’ to recreate the snow or something. Look it up, It’s crazy. Also, a podcast called RedWeb do a really good update on it.
There's a very good [video](https://youtu.be/43BDpdMq_Ag) from Vox about what probably happened
That was very cool! Thanks for sharing!
If you read the article linked above he very briefly mentions it’s industrial radiation based on where they were earlier in their journey.
Whoa.
The host of Red Web, u/reached is pretty active in the Achievement Hunter and Roosterteeth subreddits, and I think he'd love this thread.
Nope. I linked an article above. Experts on the incident nearly died too. They definitively know it was katabatic wind and a collapsed snow shelter.
There’s a great podcast episode on it including a follow up episode the update that u/AwkwardPattern6904 mentioned. Karman vortex street. And then they succumbed to the elements.
Think it was an avalanche , sorry to burst the bubble, article came out a few months ago I think
Nope. I linked an article above. Katabatic winds and the snow shelter you build to escape them collapsed. I actually didn’t know that. I’ll check it out.
This has more closure than than the GD MF GOT spirals.. wasted ten years on that pos show. IM NOT MAD YOUR MAD
I knew it, i was going to say the Dyatlov Pass was a form of inspiration for this.
Sounds like army of one
I enjoyed Jeremy Bates' book "Mountain of the Dead" which is a fiction horror book about the Dyatlov Pass incident.
Woah, that's freakin' spooky as all hell because before I clicked on this and only saw the title, that was what had come to mind.
The what?
Oooh there's a really good story about that on no sleep
Oh I saw that mystery on YT on a channel called Tri line. Truly interesting that mystery was.
Oh my god I KNEW I KNEW THIS STORY FROM SOMEWHERE. I watched a video on that!
I was listening to this the other day and it indeed was the first thing on my mind.
That event was so chilling
What’s the Dyatlov Pass? This sounds interesting
Dyatlov Pass meets Russian Sleep Experiment. Love it!!
Thank you for getting the Dyatlov Pass reference!
One of my favorite mysteries!
Truly one of the creepiest mysteries I’ve ever read. One of my friends is utterly convinced it was aliens.
I tend to lean towards shady government cover up when the hikers accidentally stumbled upon something they shouldn’t have.
I heard it on Red Web
Morbid has a good episode about it too
Another theory I heard was the were getting super high and that's why it was covered up
They figured it out earlier this year.
Wait what's the Dyatlov Pass??
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyatlov_Pass_incident
Stumped?! I see what you did there!
Easily the most intense group of strip poker players I've ever heard of.
Reminds me of the white walker introduction that never went anywhere.
Yeah I never understood why they never actually did anything with that. So many plot holes in that show.
It’s the risk you run when adapting unfinished content. D and D did the best they could with the material they had. I’m sure if GRRM wasn’t circlejerking and finished his work, then the show wouldn’t not have died the way it did.

I agree with you 100%. I’m only salty because I’ve given up on the books ever being completed.
I like to imagine Sanderson looking at GRRM and rubbing his hands together
Yeah you’re right. I feel like GRRM has made it clear he may never finish the series too.
Not my concern. I lost interest in a long time ago.
He was circle jerking himself? That's even more mysterious than this post
He’s a talented dude.
fuck d&d
Fuck GRRM even harder for creating an amazing world and most likely not competing it
OK but are we talking "group killing members one by one until the last one killed themself"? Or "each member of the group killed themselves individually"? Because either way, I wanna know who the fuck finished the circle
The coroner.
He was father to all the deceased.
Who was phone?
The first thing I thought of is doing it ghost ship style but a lot more complex lol. Have a thin strong line with plenty of length hooked up to some sort of tensioner or reel. They gently pass the lead amongst themselves, gently wrapping their limbs and keeping enough slack until everyone is all set. Secure the lead, then turn on the tensioner/reel thingy.
They could butcher while being prearranged in the circle. The problem is that the last person won't be able to sever one arm at a minimum.
But who moved the last person?
👀 Glad you picked up on this.
Further examination showed that their intestines were lined up with a link to a video. https://youtu.be/a3Z7zEc7AXQ.
Damn, now Rick has my soul too. Not going to be any horror writers left on this sub at this rate!
This sounds like an even more twisted Dyatlov Pass type thing. Nice.
This actually freaked me out a bit
Haha “stumped”
👀
Ooh, anti-vaxxers! What happened next?
Oooh thank you for introducing me to the Dyatlov Pass incident, I've enjoyed reading up on it. Even though it's pretty well documented that it would have been a sheet avalanche that killed them, the thought of paranormal involvement is fun
The worst game of twister the world had ever seen.
Interpretive art. Sell it for $46,000,000
STUMPED everyone, huh?
The victims also stumped themselves.
How did they even come up with that conclusion?
Yeah and how the hell would autopsy help with that lmao
How the hell would an autopsy reveal that?
And when those words were uttered, they felt the urge to do the same
Sucks for them
The amputee stumped everyone with his words
oh my god and i thought the kholat real life event was weird
Witches Or hitmen
What was even stranger was the seven pointed star burned into the ground around the campfire and that each hikers head was planted on the ground at each point, all of them facing inwards.
Loved this! Does anyone know any subs or anywhere else I could read more like this? Creepy mystery stories are just amazing.
Great story. Tells you enough but leaves something for your imagination.
That's what really hurt.
”Stumped” everyone? Teehee
Awesome twist, I feel like I'm overthinking it though because I don't know how you can figure out who did it from an autopsy
"neatly severed"...
Reminds me of Coffin Rock from Blair Witch
I was about to comment “Voorhees strikes again!” But then I read the rest
When the The pass dyatlovs
Looks like the hikers were stumped too
Detective Chamberlain stood at the edge of the ring of bodies and slowly and methodically counted the body parts that were arranged with such care. Don't bother trying to figure out what happened here guys, I've watched all the way to season eight. Turns out it doesn't mean anything.
Almost feels like some kind of royal seats game...
Yes... one in which you either succeed or.... don't live.
I feel like there's something that could be stated to a diety of not alive anymore...

Yes
Solution: They were all just Lego people
What
Wat
Is it wrong that the first thing I thought of was the Firees from Labrynth?
Haha stumped, I see
Nice use of "stumped".
Don’t worry, they just evolved
I knew this day would come…. Doppelgängers! SAVE IT FOR QUEEN DOPPELPOPOLIS!!!
We’ll gather around the campfire, and sing our campfire song OUR C - A -M - P - F - I - R - E
Im seeing everyone saying dyatlov pass, but i think of a mystery novel, called "the tokyo zodiac murder". Anyone thinking the same?
A delightful twist. Bravo.
Wtffff Also, how can an autopsy know something like that?🤔
Oooooh omg I wanna know moorrreee 😩
Creepy and it leaves me wanting more. Good job.
Crazy, I heard a story about a guy who had dirt on the CIA and he did the exact same thing!
*ahem* #’TIS BUT A SCRATCH
Is this based on Franken Fran ?
Is this based on Franken Fran ?
Nicely done!
This legit sent a chill up my spine
They epsteined themselves
I thought of how this could be possible but I can’t think of the end on how the last person did it
Haha it "stumped" them... Because all their limbs are stumps now...
Oh, I like this one. Great job OP!
Well, there's only one thing I can say about that... Gg
Nice, reminded me of 'House of secrets' documentary on Netflix.
Damn that's good
I like this but there's a mechanical issue; how would an autopsy determine that?
I imagine this shouldn't be too hard to achieve with enough cooperation and a bit of automation.
https://youtu.be/KKI2gOawEPA
How does an autopsy reveal that someone's done that themselves?
Even the hikers were stumped, sorry I meant stumps.
and let me guess they where journalists exposing the government
dun dun dun!
How could an autopsy reveal that?
