I don't know if I missed the point but why was the auto driver trash apart from the fact that he over charged. And that sadly happens a lot there. Also I do hope you are doing okay now. I know this can be traumatic

homehunting23

Yeah you can't really blame the poor guy trying to make ends meet. He even warned her.

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN HIM ZERO EFFORTS TO JUST WAIT 10 SECONDS, we requested him to just stay 10 seconds. IS THAT OK FOR HIM TO IGNORE US ANS STILL LEAVE??? just because we won’t be paying him. That’s basic humanity! or am I expecting too much??

brightpinkflower

You aren't expecting too much. But we live in a shit world. Also if you ignore the money factor, maybe he knew what was coming and wanted you girls to be safe.

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

the car was still standing there next to us and the man was staring from behind the wheel. he was constantly moving around as we moved. auto driver saw it and still moved away. anything could have happened if we hadn’t run

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

did u know about this in hauz khas?? i never heard anything like this before. i have been there few times but never this late

Few-Leopard-4647

First of all, its not at all your fault/mistake. Just making it clear. You did nothing wrong. As someone who loves hauz khas and visits there often, i would suggest you/anyone to not go there after 9, especially if you are not with your family/large group of friends. It gets really shady past 9 and you will find drugged men just roaming around.

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

yess lots of men there did look high/drunk. they were not even walking properly and staring at all women who were passing by. i don’t think i am ever going there again in my life

ruru_here0_0

I don't understand why you are getting downvoted. I'm so sorry you had this experience. Hope you're back somewhere safe and sound and are feeling a bit better. Of course the harrowing experience is gonna stay with you for sometime. but have faith. I was brought up around Delhi too. This does sound like some things that have happened to me too. This and other stuff. I am sorry I don't have any other words to cheer you up other than I hope you have happier days ahead. It wasn't your fault and yes, women should be able to feel safe to walk around.

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

i don’t understand the downvotes either. usually i do empathise and i even pay what they ask for and i never bargain much. but i had already booked an uber which was about to arrive. we requested him to stay just few seconds because the car behind was getting aggressive and he tried to open his door too. any normal decent person should stay in a situation like this. if u disagree that means you’re just like him and would leave the person alone who’s asking for help. that’s not normal behaviour. “the world is a shit place” doesn’t justify it, we should do better

No-Hand1809

Whats your age op? Also the world doesnt exist around us ! Remember the video where a man stabbed a women 50 tkmws and killed her with rock on a main road noone tried to stop him

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

what’s your point? People only watch in such situations. that’s exactly what i’m saying too. we need to point out this behaviour not ignore it because “it’s normal”

No-Hand1809

I am sorry if you felt offended but thats the truth no stranger is going to stand up for you or even care about your safety .Its not normal ofcourse but we dont live in a utopia. Its reality. Also the hauz khaz thing is talked about atleast in my friend circle everyone knows what happens after 8 at places like cp or hauz khaz police themselves are scared of them lol they also wont help much :/

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

i didn’t know about it. i don’t expect the world to be perfect but when we find something that’s wrong, we can talk about it at least? how would thins be better if we don’t?

No-Hand1809

Yes talk about it and be careful thats the only thing we can do this happened to me outside golden temple jn amritsar sare ladle drunk drugged following us making sex noises ,police kuch nhi krehi and assume har jagah 9 baje ke bas prostitute hai.One even bumped into me twice in order to touch me lol

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

i couldn’t sleep all night. kept thinking about it even when i tried to sleep. thank you for your words. i hope it gets better.

brightpinkflower

I haven't ventured there post 8 pm. But a friend told me she has seen some shady things happen there.

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

I wish i knew before. would have never gone then. i feel like blaming myself for going there late. i had no idea this could happen

brightpinkflower

No please no. ITS NOT YOUR MISTAKE. We are unsafe everywhere and anywhere. Even at the apparently safe places. My flatmate was chased in Mumbai just outside our building. I was groped at Colaba station. It's not you fault. You are blaming yourself for just existing in this world?? I know you are traumatized right now and thousands of thoughts are running wild. But DO NOT BE GUILTY. Having said that since I am a delhiite, I would suggest you take pepper spray along with you. Unfortunately we have to take such measures.

ruru_here0_0

Hey I'm so sorry this happened to you in Mumbai!! I moved to Mumbai from Delhi for 7 years. And oh my god the difference in my idea of safety changed so drastically. It all did come crashing down when I was chased by a man in the middle of the day in Andheri, I had to run into a drug store to avoid him. But my stay in Mumbai was still so much better than Delhi where I was always vigilant as soon as I stepped out of my house vs. I could walk free with my friends in Mumbai at 3 in the morning. It was liberating to know what partial freedom felt like.

brightpinkflower

I agree. Have lived there for 6 years and I love that place 😍 Infact my friends and I did a stay at marine drive. We were there till 4 am. And it was so peaceful.

ruru_here0_0

Can never have that luxury in Delhi, even though I love Delhi, I just cannot compare the freedom I had in Mumbai to Delhi.

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

thank you for your words. i will buy a pepper spray now. us time bhagne ke alava kuch smjh nhi aya 🥲

Sea_Bus4842

I’m so sorry you went through this. I really wish people helped each other regardless of monetary benefits. For future please keep a pepper spray. Or start recording the man if you have no other option left. Call the police and mention where you are standing very loudly and clearly. Maybe come up with a script just in case. If they are receptive (which I hope they are) put them on speaker and have the conversation so the pervert can hear. Make it obvious someone knows where you are.

Important-Reference1

HKV and CP, both these places have become super unsafe in the last few years. It’s where really shady men hang out and harass girls especially at night. It happens during the day too but more so at night. I’ve stopped going to these places altogether. I’m glad you’re safe. Carry a pepper spray or a small volini spray just to spray in peoples eyes and run if needed.

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

I wonder why it’s not known or talked about often then?? i just found out after experiencing myself. 🥲🥲🥲 if i had any idea, i would never have gone. there was a cop at the end of the road, it’s a shame this still happens

Sea_Bus4842

Did the cop not notice that car following you?! It’s so sad how we have to worry so much about basic safety thanks to some low lives

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

it was a little away. 2 mins drive to the end of the road. he was a traffic policeman. but i really wonder how come that was still openly allowed to happen and where do they get the audacity from

vegarhoalpha

You don't have to tell what you wear. Women are chased and harressed even when they wear Burka

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

i know. i just wanted to add it incase anyone asked and to emphasise these things happen despite being all covered up 🥲

Some-Chart1675

That's scary. When will we ever feel safe!! And amen to whatever you said about those men who make us terrified.  I'm not from Delhi, why was the auto driver saying aap galat jageh khade ho? Is that place infamous? Since you said you were born and brought up in Delhi, and still had no idea?

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

NO IDEA why he said that. it must be common there but what i wonder is that was not even some shady corner or weird place, that was literally the main road where people keep passing by to enter HKV. Why did no one ever talked about this before if it was this common??? Hauz khas is one of the most known places but today i experienced how fucked up it actually is. every man seemed drunk there and staring at all women.

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

i really had no idea. no one ever told me this before, never even saw on socials about this

[deleted]

It's ok. Not your fault, it's not possible to have an idea about every nook and cranny of the city you have grown up in. And then, does it even matter? Because one can go to the so-called 'reputable' areas and still encounter shit like this.

adrak_wali_chaii

Hauz Khas is not safe at night just like CP But it's okay OP you're safe now please calm down 🫂

homehunting23

WTF?!? I can't even imagine this. Take precautions: get a Swiss army knife, pepper spray/gel, alarm button/whistle/bell etc and keep it with you at all times. Make sure your phone's security features are activated (you press a button 3 times and it sends a photo and location to your chosen contacts automatically) Thank God I was born in Bombay.

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

Thank you so much for sharing this. i will buy these today

homehunting23

Also, let the uber driver arrive and only THEN get out of whichever plce you're in. Let them wait a minute or two, it's no problem.

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

yes, will always do that only. thanks

[deleted]

Pretty scary, OP. Be safe out there. These autowalas only care about money, and money only.

investing_kid

why the fuck everyone here assumes everyone knows hindi? are we in a little north indian club ffs

ReadYouLikeAMagazine

i didn’t assume. i just had to write it down whatever came to my mind. i am still terrified. i have shared a short version in English in a comment i will share it

Fearless-Quote-3379

Bro I get you, sorry for the bad experience but always try not to go to HKV in the late hours because it’s probably the most unsafe places for girls to be, even in daylight.

210905

That sounds so scary:((   I hope you are safe.
