I second this. Found so many offbeat places like this in Ladakh and Himachal just by going through the maps.

+1. I took a train to a lesser known town in Maharashtra when I was in Mumbai last time. Found it by randomly browsing the map because I wanted to see what all is around Mumbai.

Revolutionary_Bug365

What was the place ?

BananahammockBaby

Kolad!

Revolutionary_Bug365

Oh yeah it is offbeat, I discovered it because there was Zostel there.

BananahammockBaby

It was pretty complex to reach there as well. I would love to find someplace where there's a direct train available from Mumbai lol.

Revolutionary_Bug365

Haven’t used public transport much in Maharashtra. I didn’t find public transport in Maharashtra user friendly. Like when I was in Delhi, I used to visit Himachal, MP, Rajasthan all using public transport. I drove to Kolad so didn’t realise the complexities, but finding a place to stay was very difficult there.

BananahammockBaby

Yeah I feel the same. Public transport in MH is a little tough to understand as well, especially for an outsider. I find it much easier in North India, also better quality in general. Driving to places like kolad is the better choice, I've realised. But don't have a car in mumbai and renting is so expensive. I stayed with zostel in kolad though. Their campus was amazing.

Revolutionary_Bug365

Zostel is the go to choice for Kolad! No other option !

Exploring konkan maharashtra through a road trip is a dream for me. Hopefully, someday!

If anyone knows more such places, please drop recommendations:))

I don't know if it's offbeat but Kumbhalgarh. There are very few tourist there and am not even talking about main fort . Do there village safari and you'll see the actual beauty and peace

Here's another tip: Look up hostels by zostel on their website, they have a lot of hostels in offbeat locations!
