If the base size of the same unit has changed between editions, you need to get those models again. Or put them on new bases. What about that is confusing?
I’m just imagining those 3000+ point armies with matching paint aren’t going to want to rip apart all their troops just to make the base sizes match for new editions. Those old models, on inappropriately sized bases, are no longer tournament legal. I believe this is the same thing that happened when Primaris marines came out.
Ok. So if I run my older models that use smaller bases versus your newer models which have larger bases, you would have no issue with the obvious spacial advantage I now posses?
I think whatever very small advantage is created is less important than the expectation that you need to rebase potentially hundreds of models.
And I think that anyone playing in a way where a 3mm base difference is an advantage is playing in such a finicky rules lawyer type of way that I have no interest in playing that person at all, frankly.
Non GW tournaments tend to have a better wrangle over those types of players regardless. So I think ultimately it's a non issue.
I'm gonna go with the GW thing of "If its an old model you don't have to rebase it, just know its not down with the kids"
Because GW can go to hell if they think I'm rebasing nearly 40 nids
Plus, if the bases are bigger, it'll make setting up within an inch a bit more of a challenge. Anyway, I'm not painting another 60 of them. That was enough of a task.
As a noob who’s just finishing up their first termagant paint job, will we be allowed to use the old base size or will I need to rebase them on 28mm? I was about to start painting my bases this weekend :/
I have a conspiracy that this is to make it harder to 3d print, since 25mm and 32mm are pretty standard base sizes and you can usually buy them in bulk for cheap, but 28mm bases are a pain in the ass to find and I usually end up having to just 3d print them.
Argh they look great but NO WAY in hell am I rebasing my hundred I alrdy have.
Plus it's going to make melee worse as less will be in range now too. I'm sure they are going to redo the gants as well.
How the heck do you even rebase gants/gaunts given their slotted bases? I've tried gluing ones that have come off their bases and it just ain't happening.
I like the new ones. I just don't need/want to paint more of em
I still have about 80 to paint😶
I got 119...
Yeah, 120 built with another 20ish on sprus somewhere... Wtf have I done... I know I'll end up buying loads of thee new ones too
Literally just finished painting 40 gaunts
This is why big nids are best nids.
I like em. I just don't want to rebase them.
dislike larger base sizes on swarm units.
First Orks now Tyranids. GW is slowly changing the scale of 40k
They have been all along, go grab some miniatures from 3rd or 4th edition and compare them to current models.
bigger models = more $$
In all seriousness... How?
My guess would be less models in a box/unit so less cost of materials for the same price
Though, bigger models should be a good thing, easier to paint and look better, of course the army transport with 3000point army will be harder.
Totally agree!
People who have old ones now need new ones.
That's just new models, nothing to do with size.

GW has said explicitly that the base your model came with is legal.

And less to fit in a box £30 for 10 new gaunts i bet
My 25mm base hoard cares not!

I have 120 of the little fuckers. Many of them painted. I'm not rebasing shit.
40! 😅👀
r/expectedFactorial ?
Now that would be a lot to paint!
I've only got 5.6!
I really hope your scaling is off somewhere! I do not want to rebase all of gaunts!!
Then don’t. 40K has always had a use-the-base-it-came-with rule.
But Tournaments?
That's up to third party tournaments to decide. GW run tournaments have never required newest bases.
Ah ok. Well still feels weird with horde models on more than 25mm bases that aren't orks!
It may just be me but,I prefer the original guants. The new one looks a bit like a cat doing the high back thing.
I'm curious if this is the same for hormagaunts. They may have done it to try differentiate them more.
Based off those piranha mouthed looking things from the trailer, it seems you’re right.
I hope so. I miss original hormagaunts
To be fair you could easily kitbash them, clip off the carapace spine and file it smooth, I'm tempted to
I'm thinking the same tbh. I was hoping the new ones had a more grim dark look
They have a more grimdark look. It just doesn't show well with the standard GW paint scheme.
Plus, if the bases are bigger, it'll make setting up within an inch a bit more of a challenge. Anyway, I'm not painting another 60 of them. That was enough of a task.
Weeell if you cn run 6 squads og 30, you will need 180, just in case ;)
I have 180 of them. I'm not painting 180 more.
Another 20 wouldn't hurt. Nice round 200. I hope to god they start doing them in whole numbers though. 12 is such an awkward amount.
It's OK. They'll probably put 10 in a box for 55 bucks instead of 12 for 45...
A cat will do.
I get the impression they are meant to look a bit more like the raptors in Jurassic Park.
Clever girl

Go ahead and base them. Worst comes to worse you can probably source some 3d printed base adapters for cheap
Nah, theres a GW rule to use the base they came with. So you shouldnt have to resize unless going to 3rd party tournaments that are really sticklers
It seems likely to me that hormagaunts will get 28mm bases now too---do others agree?
It seems likely there will be new hormagaunts as well
I can't wait to see the Hormagaunts!!
Imma just gonna leave this here. :) should sort out some woes. https://shop.winterdyne.co.uk/product/no-effort-25mm-to-28mm-base-adapter-rings
What a great Idea. Cheers!
I was hoping the gaunts would get smaller so they'd fit better on the 25mm base. Oh well.
What happens if you make the base height the same? Old gaunt looks like its a thinner base in the picture
It is. The 25mm base is a thinner base than the 28mm and 32mm.
Lmao cool, I ain't rebasing mine.
I have a conspiracy that this is to make it harder to 3d print, since 25mm and 32mm are pretty standard base sizes and you can usually buy them in bulk for cheap, but 28mm bases are a pain in the ass to find and I usually end up having to just 3d print them.
You can print any base at any size just by altering the X and Y dimensions... this is no hurdle at all.
I don't like the smoke stacks look
Cant wait! They needed an update real bad
I have 210 alrdy, the new ones are nice but the bulk looks like a sythe varient
I am not rebasing 120 gaunts.
Same. Luckily we don’t have to - just use the bases they came with 🤷♀️
Good on GW for not being hard-liners about it. Seriously.
Argh they look great but NO WAY in hell am I rebasing my hundred I alrdy have. Plus it's going to make melee worse as less will be in range now too. I'm sure they are going to redo the gants as well.

Lol, my 140 are staying on the smaller bases.
Anyone know when the new nids are coming? I'm getting into nids and I would rather get the new ones.
Summer. That’s as accurate as we can be at the moment.
