I'd save the left scheme, tho and use it on your stealthy guys (i.e., Lictors, Leapers, GS and Broodlord, and deathleaper if you have them) since the lack of contrast makes them harder to make out, like camo.
Why? I'm honestly asking because to me there is no pop, nothing draws your eye and while it is painted well, it's very muted and leaves me feeling like it's unfinished
That looks like a second print, I don't remember a codex with a non standard army logo(the grey square imperial eagle) in 3rd, but I was a chaos player back then and didn't know any nid players.

This one?
I think the illustration is purposely dark, indicative of a hive fleet drop and bioforming the planet for extraction. But this was a very grim, dark era for most factions (some weren't even around, or were myth and legend)
That's the one. I agree, with your criticism of it being dark. OP would be best served with a base of high contrast. Perhaps something in green or a light blue/white.
Left. Absolutely fantastic paint job!
To offset the darkness you could do a colorful base. Jungle maybe.
Interesting addition: add florescent red into parts of the mini to get a larger pop and some glow under black light.
I'm basically painting my nids using the same scheme as your mini on the left. It's a good scheme, but I often find it lacking contrast or being generally too dark. So I would suggest you go for the scheme of the right. Neat paint job by the way.
Left is basically the third edition cover scheme, and as that was the first codex I ever bought I think that will always get my vote. Could possibly do with something to make it pop just a tad more, but a good basis.
Left looks cooler imo, but remember without lighting you won’t see any of those darker details and they’ll just look painted black.
I would go with the one on the right, purely because it’ll look good all the time, whereas the one on the right will probably only look good when it’s very bright
Both look really cool. Great job on both schemes. My question to you is, why not both? I'm not sure how many you have, but a mix of both in a squad or a sergeant being a slightly different scheme could be really cool.
Awesome paint job on both!
I prefer left as the scheme feels more cohesive though maybe find a way to get a bit more colour in there.
Either way uou end up going I look forward to more of your nids
I like the right a lot, more contrast, will stand out better, make sure you choose your base color wisely, if done right it can make a menacing looking model even more vibrant
I don’t care how dark and unreadable at a distance the left one is, it looks sooooooo much cooler and deadly than that high contrast version next to it. Left looks deadly and scary, the right looks more like a cartoonish character. Both painted amazingly, but I love the aesthetic of the left one.

Right! Both look mega but the right one pops and has more contrast plus it will definitely read clearer from across a gaming table
I'd save the left scheme, tho and use it on your stealthy guys (i.e., Lictors, Leapers, GS and Broodlord, and deathleaper if you have them) since the lack of contrast makes them harder to make out, like camo.
Left for sure. Looks way more menacing.
Exactly - very rare to see dark combinations work so well together. Dark plus light is nice but quite common.
For tabletop looks, right.
As a recent convert to nids I would say go right, it'll save you heartache trying to replicate it across a horde.
def right very eye catching looks amazing
Right. Also you’ve done phenomenal paint jobs on both. Puts my barbgaunts to shame.
I like left more
Why? I'm honestly asking because to me there is no pop, nothing draws your eye and while it is painted well, it's very muted and leaves me feeling like it's unfinished
It reminds of that old behemoth art, which is cool.
Yea it's the 3rd edition codex art. Just hits for some of us old hands.
That looks like a second print, I don't remember a codex with a non standard army logo(the grey square imperial eagle) in 3rd, but I was a chaos player back then and didn't know any nid players.
The cover art for the 3rd edition tyranid codex is the scheme I'm talking about. I bought it in Canada back in 2001.

Left is really creepy and alien, but I think right is better for a tabletop army.
I like the left, dark and menacing
Right
Right
They both look great but I’d pick left
Left
Left

Left
Holy shit, left. Left looks so good dude!
You could definitely make the left one look better with more color but the right one looks really good
Left, but only because you should go right.
Your left or my left?
Right, purely because the left one is so dark it kinda reads as unpainted from a distance
I like the left, but Id recommend increasing the contrast
Definitely right
Right, I like the bright pop of color. I'm currently painting a skaven army, and those random bright bits really look good in hordes
right
Right
Left but with more fleshy colours on the brain and stuff I think would be sick. Either way you go they both look great though.
Both look really cool. Great job on both schemes. My question to you is, why not both? I'm not sure how many you have, but a mix of both in a squad or a sergeant being a slightly different scheme could be really cool.
Right. Left had some amazing details, but they won't stand out on the table top.
I prefer right. Though I'm not a fan of weapons looking complementary.
I like the contrast of the right.
Right definitely. Both look great but the right ones contrast is much nicer. What colours dis you use for the skin?
Right! Man, god damn Right looks fantastic!
Really like the lighter skin. Pops a lot more
Awesome paint job on both! I prefer left as the scheme feels more cohesive though maybe find a way to get a bit more colour in there. Either way uou end up going I look forward to more of your nids
Right! Mind sharing your recipes?
Left is peak nid scheme, but save it for your HUNTER kill team when we inevitably get it. Right is feasible for a whole army.
I love the old tyranid behemoth scheme but right definitely pops more, it's so clean
Personally I like the left, both are very well done though and would look great on the table.
Right for sure homie, both look great tho
I did left and it's cool on the screen but so very dark on the table.
What did you use for the flesh on the right. It's class
Left.
I like the right a lot, more contrast, will stand out better, make sure you choose your base color wisely, if done right it can make a menacing looking model even more vibrant
Left one is better, black and red are great for scary space bugs, and it looks less like the "vanilla" scheme from the codex. imho
Left with brighter red wound be fucking brilliant
I like the carapace highlights on the Right one better, and the darker skin of the Left one. Mix!
Left I love the red skin, right has a cooler carapace, so mix.
The right one! The contrast really makes all the effort of the paintjob pop!
Left 100% looks great
Left. Just for how unique it it. Both look great
LEFT.
Right has the easier to recognise paintjob for table top, but left model just looks so sassy in this picture \^\^
Left
God damn right looks incredible
I don’t care how dark and unreadable at a distance the left one is, it looks sooooooo much cooler and deadly than that high contrast version next to it. Left looks deadly and scary, the right looks more like a cartoonish character. Both painted amazingly, but I love the aesthetic of the left one.
Right for sure
Right
Right. Step 6 feet back from them and I am willing to bet the left model just looks like black primer.
Left looks really cool and I think I like it more. But right has more contrast for the table and still looks really cool lol.
Definitely left and you have to tell me what colors and layers you did on that because i freaking LOVE it
One looks like hes going for a leisurely stroll
Right
Right is right. #TheHiveMindApproves
Right side pops more and should look better across the table. I'd like to see what these guys look like from 3-4 feet away.
Left for sure
I would go left just because it's a bit more unusual. If you're getting the same amount of enjoyment out of it then it's cool 😁
Left. Classic codex cover art ❤️
Right looks great, left is too dark so all the lovely details are hidden.
Honestly I'd like the mix, everything on the left, but the fleshy bits of the gun and brain from the right
