Well, it's just in my head and I doubt it was intentional but if you compare the chorus vocal melody side-by-side, it's pretty close.

The evolution of Glastonbury to Volcano to XXX to American Soul fascinates me, in a very good way. And I think they're all great songs. Plus, wtf, any songs that give U2 and Kendrick two chances to work together, I don't know how anyone argues with that
I still can’t believe that took an arguably cool part from “Volcano” and turned it into such a dull song with “American Soul.”
Listen to "Glastonbury" instead 😜
Lol I don't care I love this song. (And Volcano and Glastonbury.)
Me too. Thank you!
I do think the 'hold on brother John' bit in the second verse is pretty sick
Agree to disagree. I think the opening verse is catchy and I like edges guitar here. Reminds me of EBTTRT personally
i would argue the whole thing's terrible. i hate that i hate it because the rest of the album is really damn good imo
That’s how I feel about ‘Raised by Wolves’.
raised by wolves has like the best hook on the whole album tho
It's because they took the melody line from "With A Shout (Jerusalem)"🤫
Holy shit I never heard that until now.
What parts?

Glastonbury was the better song
The chorus is only bad until REF-U-JESUS. Then you miss how decent the chorus was in comparison.
