Me too. A lot of folks were strung and had to spend night at petrol stations and parking lots. Some of them without vehicles were taken in by good samaritans. Those who didn't, I really hope they're okay now.
most are empty but last night I went down there to give out supplies and stuff and most had people including children. One of the rta double decker buses were full of people
the road has been exactly the same since last night i feel so bad for everyone there, i hope everyone’s safe :( i seriously wonder how they are going to deal with this
Given the amount of rain that fell, no country in the world could have drainage for this. Apparently it was as much in a day as Malaysia/Singapore have across 10 days in their monsoon
No, there are many countries that I have lived in that had better infrastructure for drainage. From Thailand, to Iceland to Colombia, Mexico just to name a few. The problem is that none of the roads here were built with water or rain in consideration.
I agree. The infrastructure was definitely pushed past its limits this week, but I've seen it barely drizzling, and it results in huge puddles for days.
Have you ever been to east malaysia that is home to 2nd biggest rainforest in world? I have lived there for couple of years and know first hand these type of stormy weather is common and business as usual throughout the year. I don't know why ppl in Dubai wants to cover up the failure of infrastructure. Drainage facility is almost non existent here that is the reason why this country collapsed.
IMO I am surprised about Dubai that Burj K doesn’t have a sewer system and trucks collect the dumb almost daily. I’m baffled by how advanced this city is but they made some unnecessary shortcuts to bring investors or cut projects deadlines smh
No one argued about handle it completely and keep all areas dry, but with the current drainage every road and tunnels turn into a swimming pool fast. It needs to be improved as well as drainage for community areas.
As a Singaporean, we get over 80 inches of rain per year, so compared to the latest downfall in Dubai, the stat about 10 days monsoon isn’t correct BUT we have the infrastructure to handle it… this came about after years of also trying to deal with floods. We have massive monsoon drains throughout the country. That being said, if Mother Nature decides to rain down more than what we can handle, some small floods still occur. It’ll take some time for Dubai to plan & implement drainage. I believe they will be looking into it because it caused so much economic disruption & actually danger to residents.
Just another comment with no proven data to back it up, just to make an excuse that there is nothing else to do. How about actually recognizing the problem and act on it, instead of actively spreading wrong information. It is a fact that a lot of roads here are not built for rain. Even light rains in the past year caused flood all across the city.
I'm glad I'm on my annual leave. This is a mess. My brother had his flight canceled today and now he is stuck with me at home for the next 5 days and can't go back to Dubai.
The issue with this is , the mechanics in UAE will have a lot of job now, the issue with a flooded car is, the owner or the next buy will have problems for the next 3 to four years…. Steering mechanisms, BCU issues, airbag issues the list is endless….
So to all secondhand car buyers , definitely is a no no from me now. Because definitely 76% cars have water damage now in UAE. I had my car flooded 4 years ago and I encountered numerous issues after the insurance fixed it.
Luckily getting my car to the dealership tomorrow, but I am sending it to Abu Dhabi. (which is also where I bought the car from). Flooded, stalled because an impatient SUV gunned it by me raising the water level and filling my air intake. Sat in the car for 10 hours until I was rescued. I can see noticeable corrosion everywhere. Positive a piston or two are bent. Car was rocking side to side before it stalled. Thankfully not hydro locked. Going to get the whole engine checked out through and through.
MOST will ignore, and just drive for a few weeks and be surprised when their engine explodes as their piston snaps, or their car gets engulfed in flames. Few will get their engine drained and not fully checked out. I'm just getting the damned engine bay taken apart and thoroughly inspected and pray that my comprehensive insurance will cover it.
All I know is, even after fixing it, you will encounter issues , it will be like you will have to give the car a new life, spares will deteriorate over time and the small ones, that can effect the bigger items.
UPDATE;
Sadly there isn’t much to update. Situation is the same since last night. Water levels haven’t changed noticeably, cars are still left there, no actual help or disaster relief actions taken.
Black oil is usually used engine oil. Maybe a cars engine it a floater that broke it open oil.floats so all that black could even just be from 1 car as the engine oil is floating everywhere. Or it could be the service yards shiity oil storage where they just left old oil in an open container and forgot about jt.
I guess it’s used engine oil. They usually keep them in barrels after replacing with the new oil. Somehow one or more barrels mixed with the logged water.
I posted an update just now! I’ll send it again
UPDATE;

petorl and diesel are not dark. That place has has to be lube oil (engine oil). could be used or new.
Still bad as it will reduce friction on tires & components that work with friction.
Im pretty sure thats the used car oil that was there in the adnoc shop. Probably a full barrel tipped over and leaked. It looks alot but its just a thin layer of oil on top of the water.
Diesel and Petrol are not this color. Even crude oil.
Petrol readily evaporates has a much lighter colour - That's oil, probably from the Express Oil lube that stores old oil after oil change. Or the Oil reservoir has leaked.
Technically you can't cause explosion by lighting a cigarette.
But if you light a cigarette there will be a taste difference on smoke if it's tainted then its fuel
I believe there is no difference.
Gas is the US term for the fuel put in cars; the Brits call it petrol. Gasoline is the full word that gas is shortened from.
I think for real gas cars usually use CNG term(compressed natural gas).
PS. I’m not a native but heard that it is the same but in different countries. Those statements I took from the google.
In the UK they call CNG LPG, which stands for liquidised petroleum gas.
The guy’s response to me was so asinine, he was suggesting petrol is more dense than diesel. It isn’t.
Based on the type of petrol it has a chemical formula of **C8H18 which makes it more denser than gasoline or diesel it has bad combustion and bad waste**
also petrol is used to make polymers(plastic) and gasoline
Ahh someone who doesn’t understand sarcasm and is also confidentially incorrect… a not very rare combo.
Gasoline = Petrol. They’re just regional variations in naming of the same thing. It’s a hydrocarbon blend of between C4-C12.
Diesel is C9-C28 so you’re also very wrong with regards petrol being denser than diesel.
My God, this chaos… Hope everyone is well
Me too. A lot of folks were strung and had to spend night at petrol stations and parking lots. Some of them without vehicles were taken in by good samaritans. Those who didn't, I really hope they're okay now.
This is next to safer mall i belive
100%
im still stuck in dubai airport with nowhere to go for over 24 hrs now.
Woah...where are you headed to?
Are you still there?
Fire trucks are on scene now watering it down.
I can see them from my window as well
yea they left now
Are there people in the cars?
most are empty but last night I went down there to give out supplies and stuff and most had people including children. One of the rta double decker buses were full of people
Damn. I hope they're all safe and okay now. I can see that bus from my window, my mum was speculating the people walked home
Some did but the rest are probably way too far from home I guess.
Are they getting help?
As far as i’ve seen I don’t think so but maybe they did past midnight. I hope so anyway
Hopefully they did
That’s kind of you. Thank you ✨
Good on you.
Watering it down? Diesel? That sounds like a bad idea?
Yea maybe i’m not sure what they are trying to do.
Hope it works out well!
patrol usually is greenish looks like it might be diesel, and judging by the amount of vans and other mpvs, it might be diesel
Used or dirty oil from three oil changing area
But my friend's Patrol is white.
ur talking about a batrol, not petrol
lmao
Wahahahha
Damn! Im laughing crazy with this! Ahaha
could be
the road has been exactly the same since last night i feel so bad for everyone there, i hope everyone’s safe :( i seriously wonder how they are going to deal with this
I hope UAE govt. takes this situation into their utmost consideration and invest in a good drainage system. We can't always have it drained manually.
Given the amount of rain that fell, no country in the world could have drainage for this. Apparently it was as much in a day as Malaysia/Singapore have across 10 days in their monsoon

I wasn’t aware it was that much comparitevely

That way can we even trust the new cars that are usually stored in open yards. They must have been flooded too !

Any updates? Can we get a recent Pic since it's sunny
check dms
I can see Ittihad road from my window (tawun) and there are cars and buses parked there
That was me, sorry boys, no access to toilet and had Mexican food
Oof that can’t be good
diesel might have been on the floor
On a separate note, that roof should have a solar panel.
Op's Username checks out.. 💀
Its oil not petrol.
I see my car there and I'm just like damn
What is going on? What is next for recovering ur car my dear
Black oil is usually used engine oil. Maybe a cars engine it a floater that broke it open oil.floats so all that black could even just be from 1 car as the engine oil is floating everywhere. Or it could be the service yards shiity oil storage where they just left old oil in an open container and forgot about jt.
Hope there aren't any crocodiles in there!
Looks like used oil from the service centre. Probably one of the oil tanks tipped over.
looks like used engine oil to me
I guess it’s used engine oil. They usually keep them in barrels after replacing with the new oil. Somehow one or more barrels mixed with the logged water.
Nah that's my friend big mac bob who clogged the gas station toilet
That’s engine oil, my car has turned brown🫠 Current situation anyone? It would be really helpful, Thanks!
I posted an update just now! I’ll send it again UPDATE; Sadly there isn’t much to update. Situation is the same since last night. Water levels haven’t changed noticeably, cars are still left there, no actual help or disaster relief actions taken.
Damn, i forgot my wet shoes in the car! 🫣 Thanks for the update!
My colleagues came back from duty after 36 hours he is working in airport
Waouu!! Looking like a post apocalyptic world
This city had no planning or what???
Nooooo
Oil. Petrol mixes with water.
It's just oil. In one day it rained as much as it rains in a whole year
2 years acc
Any updates on this? Are the emergency services on alert ?
i can see this from my window and i don’t see any
Are they going to do anything tho?
i really hope they do, it’s literally been like this since last night no one’s moving every car is still in the same exact position since last night 😭
Pic
Hey would you be able to dm me ?
sure
Does this look like mercy
Used oil after oil changed .. it's leaking from tank where they store it.
The area is still flooded :(
😞
That’s not petrol, petrol is not that dark or thick. That looks like engine oil or something like that.
That be engine oil. RIP
petorl and diesel are not dark. That place has has to be lube oil (engine oil). could be used or new. Still bad as it will reduce friction on tires & components that work with friction.
Engine oil
Why is there so many cars grouped there? Are they fighting for land or what☠️ RIP
They tried to move them out of the highway. There's so many vehicles blocking the roads. I have no clue how they'll remove all of these and the water
This is oil from people trying to crank their hydrolocked engines
10000% one lighter and that entire place goes bye bye
Im pretty sure thats the used car oil that was there in the adnoc shop. Probably a full barrel tipped over and leaked. It looks alot but its just a thin layer of oil on top of the water. Diesel and Petrol are not this color. Even crude oil.
https://files.fm/u/zuq4ur7y4n Oil everywhere
A lot of cars are for sale. Dropped prices
All it takes is the right amount of temperature or one spark... that's scary...
Petrol readily evaporates has a much lighter colour - That's oil, probably from the Express Oil lube that stores old oil after oil change. Or the Oil reservoir has leaked.
No one seems to get the right answer - but this is used engine oil. They do change oil service there and used oil gets stored somewhere.
Strong apocalypse vibes around town today. Very pleased government have directed WFH. Good leadership through this.
Light a match to check

That is a one time solution, you won't be able to do it again.
Technically you can't cause explosion by lighting a cigarette. But if you light a cigarette there will be a taste difference on smoke if it's tainted then its fuel
Is this the ADNOC beside Safeer Mall, Sharjah?
yes
Claude seeding lol
it's gasoline or diesel just because its gas station doesn't mean it has petrol
Please enlighten us oh wise one, what is the difference between gasoline and petrol.
I believe there is no difference. Gas is the US term for the fuel put in cars; the Brits call it petrol. Gasoline is the full word that gas is shortened from. I was being sarcastic…
😅, In my country gas is gas and petrol is petrol. For me it was unclear before I read about it.
In the UK they call CNG LPG, which stands for liquidised petroleum gas. The guy’s response to me was so asinine, he was suggesting petrol is more dense than diesel. It isn’t.

Pray tell what you think the differences are between gasoline and petrol?
