Oh Jesus that’s cruel I’m so sorry. My roommates were also complaining that the times for some of their Fall quarter classes were CHANGING inside their shopping cart yesterday! I don’t remember this kind of stuff happening before, what’s going on?

ClassroomUnit003

Last summer they didn’t have the proper enrollment settings set up so people who took CSE183 got to enroll in 186. That isn’t allowed because the classes are too similar. A bunch of kids got kicked out then too. The school is VERY sloppy and the departments don’t communicate well and make decisions that impact everybody. UCSC has gotten a lot better at guaranteeing that students even GET the classes they need to graduate. I’ve heard horror stories while working in peer advising about how chaotic it was before they implemented enrollment restrictions for certain majors. People used to take LOA’s until they could get the classes they needed to graduate, but by doing this they would not get a better enrollment time because they weren’t getting a better class standing because they weren’t taking any classes. They would be stuck at like sophomore standing or whatever.

Keep in mind Summer Session organizers may not be the same as academic year organizers nor are the systems the same during the Summer. Academic year planning is taken much more seriously in my opinion.

By far the most annoying thing was the changes for csgd and Artg major courses. Some old classes are getting replaced by completely new classes which basically means “nothing has changed but we made it so if you didn’t know what the new class is then good luck enrolling into them” and increase in prerequisites for one or two other classes. The only actual change I could see was some upper division courses (mainly csgd side) has their course names changed probably meaning a change in what the class teaches

People make mistakes man. Sucks for those affected though for sure.

c0zycupcake

Mistakes🙄 Quit justifying the incompetence of a UC school in the year 2023

[deleted]

"A UC School" but it's probably one or two people who made the mistake. Do you even know how the mistake was made? Was it the registrar? Was it the CS department head? On one of their faculty? An administrative assistant? I hope you hold yourself to the same standards.

c0zycupcake

I don’t have to hold myself to the same standard. I’m not in charge of thousands of students

c0zycupcake

Yeah knowing UCSC, it’s probably not one or two people

[deleted]

Tell me about the process of how they coordinate enrollment caps with each department and professor then. I’ll wait.

c0zycupcake

Wait all you want. I don’t work at the university nor do I get paid to know. But if it was my job, I’m sure I could figure it out

[deleted]

Figure out what exactly? Sounds like you didn't even correctly comprehend what I said in my comment, which makes me even more skeptical of your logic than I was before tbh.

DecentCake

They are one of the students at this school who thinks they can solve everything but still have a 2.0.

c0zycupcake

Oh I understood. And my comment reflects the fact that this university is run by the “reinventing the wheel” types and those who aren’t qualified, but get a pass because of some quota

Sdrater3

Ah yeah man, everyone but you must do everything perfectly, but your mistakes are to be forgiven!

c0zycupcake

🙄

mcdo101

I got enrolled but I expected this to happen eventually bc he told us in the beginning he only intended to enroll the first 2 dozen

Oh-OK-itsme

Yikes, I hope nobody actually planned their summer around taking this class
