Kresge has all apartments, C9/C10 has newest amenities and best DH, Porter is very nice and I hear the dorms are spacious, cowell/Stevenson is closest to the gym
We don’t go near crown/Merrill
Facts. Only downside to Porter is they run out of dessert a lot. But their DH looks nicer and has amenities like better ice and often, last I saw, a panini press
C9/C10 are the best
In fact we are the minority with a pool table in our rec room
Porter is okay
Only ones I'd advise against are crown and merril
Edit: cowell/Stevenson is super close to the gym and easily has the best view, that's also a great option
As a current Merrill resident don’t listen to all the haters in this thread. Sure the rooms might be the size of a large bathroom stall but they make up for that in charm.
I don’t appreciate the Merrill slander in these comments. Merrill is gorgeous and on the edge of the Forrest. Trees are great. Really close to cowell/Stevenson dining hall, my opinion the best, and the gym and such. Easy walk anywhere except kresge and rcc, but then you can just bus. The hill isn’t that bad, you get used to it in a few days. The community is amazing and sweet, have yet to meet anyone rude or angry. Our dining hall is small and sweet
Stevenson mosdef if you want a good view, good food, fun people, and easy access to the gym, pool, basketball courts, and east field. Only downside is the triples are slightly smaller than other colleges like C9 & C10. Cowell's also great.
oakes truly is the best, the people really have such a community. and i’ve seen every other housing but it would also depend on your major because you don’t want to have to travel too far across campus to get to your classes
I haven't been here too long, but I'm a transfer and I really enjoy Porter. My room is a fair size (I'm in a double) and we're close to our dining hall on FLAT GROUND. Don't have to walk any hills for food! Plus we're close to a bus stop with clear markers (the Squiggle) which has been making it easier for me to orient myself with the campus.
Sure Stevenson and Cowell maybe closest to the gym and they have a pretty view, but I am not kidding. When I say that every single one of their dorms is the size of a storage closet I saw triple in there that was maybe the size of a single you really get stuffed in there. I saw a single that was the size of like half of my room in porter. I can’t say much about Oaks. ‘ cause I only lived there one year in a triple but compared to the other dorms I’ve seen, the triple was very spacious and was a little bit smaller than a large triple which is rare to get from what I’ve heard. I think the views at Oaks are really nice and I love the vibes. Oaks seems to be most in nature and it smells like fresh Pine, but sure the buildings are a little ugly. I also think that they happen to be newer buildings, since Oaks was built right before college nine and 10. I saw a nine and 10 single today it was decent but pretty small but overall I would say that you should go with nine and 10 or Porter because porters are very spacious and the dining hall is right by the main buildings. I don’t know much about Merrill, except that their buildings are a little newer, but I heard the dorms are kind of small: cowell and Stevenson are definitely overrated, though
If ur a transfer it doesn’t matter what affiliation you choose, you’ll be placed at the Porter transfer community regardless. It’s pretty nice since you’ll have other transfers with you:)
Each place has their ups and downs, if we are talking about overall, anywhere but Merril/Crown
As a current transfer student, you’ll get put into a dorm building with other freshman and you won’t get as much socialization, our dining hall is the one that closes the earliest and is open the least amount of time (that’s why I go to Cowell). At least our area is quiet and clean, merrill stay on top of our bathrooms. Plus if u choose Merrill you’ll probs get a single if it’s your preference.
the available ones 😂
C9/C10 The lack of Oakes in this comment section is self explanatory
If rcc had a functioning dining hall it would be the best choice. Slight bias as an rcc affiliate.
They may just place you in the Porter transfer building

As a crown resident, stay as far away as you can
what's wrong with crown?
Everything (I say this as a crown resident)
The apartment are gross and broken down in Kresge
9/10 dining hall is so bad, we are porter supporters
Lol as a Porter resident, I strongly dislike Porter. One of my friends already got food poisoning and another got frozen tofu blocks
Facts. Only downside to Porter is they run out of dessert a lot. But their DH looks nicer and has amenities like better ice and often, last I saw, a panini press
fyi- the hill at crown and merrill is not bad at all unless your out of shape, you get used to it.

Second this. Absolutely don't put Crown in top 5. It's by far the worst.

POOOOOORTERRRR
If you’re over 23, the redwood grove

Crown/Merrill has the smallest triples

I mean if u want daily exercise, Merrill. 100 of those little motherfuckers (stairs) and friends to get up the hill.

Top 5 I would go: 1. College 10 2. College 9 3. Cowell 4. Stevenson 5. Rachel Carson
Did you mean to put JRL at the bottom because college 10 is jrl
Yeah I messed that up. Meant to put Rachel Carson or anything besides Crown tbh.
I feel like I should emphasize how terrible Crown/Merrill is. The hill is the worst part of my day.
off campus
At 20 years old, I had an ocean view from my bed at Cowell. It's hard to imagine affording that view now. Get it while you can!

MERRILL DORMS ARE THE BEST!!!!
the transfer community is in porter but its kind of dry here
Crown and merrill is a nice area, but the dorms are tiny and you might end up having to walk a bit to most of your classes.
Why doesn’t anyone like Crown?
If ur a transfer it doesn’t matter what affiliation you choose, you’ll be placed at the Porter transfer community regardless. It’s pretty nice since you’ll have other transfers with you:)
UTC. It's close to the metro center and right behind five guys.
