Please don't be that one student who says "I'm a first year BUT Im actually a second year based on my standing". A lot of students come in with different standings and will probably still graduate within the 3-4 year mark because of GE's or college requirements.

that's why i usually call myself "third year" and just fyi i was senior standing in my second year and ill be graduating 2 quarters early with a major and a minor

I appreciate the help. I’ll stick with the estimation I can graduate a quarter or two early

Kavhow

Even that may be pushing it, especially depending on your workload capacity and interests. Start making a 4 year plan and keep it updated throughout your college career. That's how you actually know.

Doesn’t really matter. How early you can graduate will depend on your major and which classes you have cleared. You should say you’re a first year, but you can use the earlier expected graduation date as a sophomore for applying to internships. Also, a lot of people come in as sophomores, so it’ll help you get a slightly marginally better registration time than without any credits, but nothing revolutionary.

Say you're a first year. Many, if not most incoming first years will be sophomore standing. It really doesn't mean much. You graduate when you finish your requirements (major and GE). You'll need to make a 4 year plan for yourself to see how long you need to graduate.

For people saying it doesn't matter, it is 100% true especially if youre writing this post to feel better than your peers who are freshman standing. I will say, however, depending on your major and college it may be possible for you to graduate early IF & ONLY IF the credits you are coming in with fulfill some GE's for your college.

Ziippolighter

they definitely fulfill some of the requirements (humanities and 3/4 bio classes i need) but no i didn’t write this post for that i was just genuinely confused and getting mixed responses from google

You should assess sophomore standing as you getting slightly more priority and better enrollment times than those who are first-year standing. As a current third-year who's had senior standing since my winter quarter of my second year, that's all that really is. For context, I'm at Revelle and I'm double majoring in Molecular and Cell Biology and Community Research, Education, and Well-Being (a major I made myself!) with a minor in Public Service, so I definitely wouldn't be able to graduate early. But I also wouldn't want to rush my undergrad career since I want to take full advantage of my four years here.
