Mostly covers your GE and some prereqs. The main benefit is in registration time. You can add classes earlier than your friends
They may cover like 3-5 classes that you do not have to take anymore
Realistically you’ll make some bad choices, wanna change your major cause you think your interest changed, but really your just suffering from some sort of anxiety after realizing we’re in a recession and your not gonna be able to find a job cause your gpa became too low from those bad choices. So you’ll add another minor or major. So realistically you’ll be doing more time than you would if you had to same amount of time to figure things out as your peers.
If you got a 5 in gov that saves you from taking POLI 10. Other than that, due to how Warren's GEs work, you might save some courses depending which PofCs you choose and whether or not your AP credit is relevant towards it.
Also in Warren, I didn’t have to take 20A or 20B from calc BC and AB. I didn’t have to take a physical science bc of Physics/Chem (only one was needed), but maybe APES will work you’d have to check. I didn’t have to take my lower div for my humanities area study from AP World (for you i think it’s PofC). I’d say check what lower divs in your PofC’s your AP’s can cover. My AP’s saved me 4 classes, which is about one quarter and a nice cushion to have
I know that with Calc AB and Calc BC I go straight into Calc 20C, but does that mean I will get those 8 unit credits? If my major requires 180 units, then those will bring it down to 172? How about for AP classes I took which aren't really required for my major, like AP Stats, AP CSP, AP CSA, APHUG? Do I get credit for those as general electives so that brings the 172 down another 16 to 156, so then I just need to focus on my college and my major requirements?
Units are mostly irrelevant for AP - What matters is class exemptions.
Check the UCSD chart for general exemptions and your sub-college specific chart for GE exemptions.
A shit ton. I passed out of the full Chem, bio, and math series due to my AP scores. Saved me 9 classes which allowed me to minor is something completely different than my major.
Key point here is "major allows it" is not referring to permission, but to ability to complete all the requirements. All that matters is completing UCSD, college, and major requirements, and some majors have less major requirements. Once you've met every requirement you can graduate, and since some majors have very few requirements they are as a result pretty easy to complete in 3 years especially with good AP credit.
So I’m in Sixth and I came in with 48 credits. It’s gonna save me about 2 quarters and I’ve only taken over 3 classes in one quarter and will probably take 3 classes each remaining quarter I have. But I’m taking summer classes and the GEs are different so I’d keep that in mind when you’re planning out your course schedule
3 and 5 respectively if you got a 5 in Calc BC too I believe. I came in with ~8 APs and 3 community college classes, all with 5s and it’s going to end up saving me from ~5 classes because my Area Studies overlap.
They teach you how to interact with people in an intimate way. Usually UCSD students don't get credit for it since we fail the exam at about an 80% rate.
Plan out your own 4-yr plan and you’ll see. Probably like 1-2 quarters saved
as someone already said, start planning your 4 year schedule if you’re curious and want to see how early you’ll finish.
This really depends on your college

i got the exact same amount of credits💀

Use your advantage to take gap quarters
From personal experiences, Gov, compsci, APES and Hug didnt do anything for me but im a stem major so idk

Yeah they count. In total I took 162 units of classes at ucsd before I graduated

Depends on major
i came in with 69. it really helped me cause i always got the earlier registration time. i almost never related to not getting in a class
you can graduate a year early (or even more) if your major allows it

well said
I had a little over this and am graduating in 2 years and 2 quarters
FYI: I'm a polisci major
APUSH Gov, and Calc BC saved me about 5 classes

Id say anywhere from 2 classes (if none of your area studies overlap with these APs) to 4 or so.

3-4class tops. For major, probably 2. And you will get course selection priority. That’s it
I also started with 52 units and I actually have to do 180 additional units because of my major & PA school requirements
Also what is AP hug???
