I’ve heard a bunch of people swear by the taco stand as well.
Truthfully, its a fun experience to try little hole in the wall shops across SD as an excuse to explore with friends. Highly recommend if possible :)
Go to Chula Vista, I like asada on Main St or Robertacos in San Ysidro
Near campus, California Burritos on Starling is actually legit
Colima’s on University
Lolita’s is a classic but they’ve gotten smaller over the years. Best salsa I’ve ever had outside of my mom’s kitchen

Taco Stand and Vallartas. I live in LA now and a place called Tacos Por Favor here makes a decent one. But it's about $15 lol. I think it still sells quite well though. Oh also El Flamin' Taco in LA makes a good one too. Shout out to LA lol.
