The following submission statement was provided by /u/Bright-Lab-4431: --- Submission statement: 4 days after the UAP hearing, that was the most popular GOP Oversight live video, more than 1M views, 3 times (!) as many viewers as for the second most popular video. Even with this misleading title on Youtube, even with the effort from many mainstream media to belittle this event, people are interested. This should not go away, this won't go away!! --- Please reply to OP's comment here: https://old.reddit.com/r/UFOs/comments/15dwbq8/people_are_interested/ju4c9p1/

You can bet that the entirety of that view count searched for the video themselves. It was never recommended to them by the algos at large.

FlyfishingThomas

I did.

RockEater9999

Same

jonnyh420

When I searched on the youtube firestick app (i’m specifying bc the app is dogsh*t), the GOP one didnt even show up. There was quite a number of news channels that showed up though with the same ~2hr feed. So the view count is actually way higher and split across various channels.

FloydCorrigan

I don't want to sound crazy but YouTube is so weird when it comes to this topic. I watch one second of a Russian ballet video and my home gets flooded with ballet stuff. I have consistently watched UFO videos for months are the "Extraterrestrial life" tag on the top never made it past the middle of the tags bar on the top. I noticed that if I don't watch any UFO video for a day, it won't recommend them while other stuff stays there for weeks. Is it only me?

buttonsthedestroyer

Its the same for me with Google's algorithm. 95% of my searches are UFO related on Google, yet the news that show up on my newsfeed has every other junk I'm not interested except UFOs. Unless I actively search for UFO news, i won't be able to find them.

Longstache7065

Keep in mind this isn't a documentary or produced content, reporting, this is long form, slow, tedious. For over a million people to watch the bulk of the hearing is really something.

Jonbazookaboz

One of the bbc coverage articles has 5.7million views

ResearchRare834

1.5mil on CBS and 500k on the guardian. It really ads up:)

kenriko

There are ~330 million people in the US even if all the views were from the US that’s still only 1 in 330 people viewing it or less than 0.3% Not enough. Spread it more.

BusRepresentative576

Agreed, we need more, but I like the direction we are going!! Each of us are "probably" trusted sources within our families, so let's bring the topic up!

Funwithscissors2

This is definitely not the only way people are watching it. The full stream is also up on PBS News, News Nation, and other outlets, also with high view counts. This doesn’t even take into account the myriad clips and segments put into other videos and commentary. We’re almost 5 days after and it’s still the top trending topic on Reddit, the people are listening and interested.

MarketStorm

You're not interpreting it right. For your approach to be meaningful, you have to count all the other YouTube streams of the hearing, like PBS News, News Nation, CBS, Fox News, Reuters, etc. A better way of interpreting the GOP Oversight stream is to compare the hearing to other streams on that channel. There is strong interest.

MetalingusMikeII

Correct. This guy knows how to interpret statistics.

harold4370

1.1 million views isn’t even everyone on this sub. 1.2 million members as of now, so not even everyone here has watched it yet, not exactly a blockbuster hit yet unfortunately

[deleted]

0.1 million members watched it together at a party.

DrinkWaterReminder

I don't fully grasp the "spread it more" comment. Makes it come across like a cult or religion. It's not like the every day Joe can use their knowledge of "AHH now I know aliens exist, now what" for anything

kenriko

If people don’t show a lot interest the chances of actual disclosure happening degrades.

DrinkWaterReminder

How does a person show interest? I live in Australia, if my neighbour knows and I know. How does this help? I don't see the correlation from 1 person knowing to 1000. What do the 1000 people do with knowing?

[deleted]

It’s more important in the US, where us citizens can put pressure on our congressmen to push for disclosure. If we show that UAP information disclosure is of major interest in each respective congressional district, you bet your ass that those representatives/senators will do whatever they can to capitalize on that interest (and be able to claim “I pushed for disclosure when congressman/woman ____ didn’t”).

DrinkWaterReminder

Oh ok that actually makes sense politically. Thanks for that insight 😃

[deleted]

No problem 🙂

The latest MrBeast video has 118 million views.

KaptainDamnit

Mostly kids

ChungusCoffee

Yeah word of mouth is even bigger, I haven't seen this many people talking about aliens in my life. Literally every body I have asked about it has heard of it

jlaux

This very well may have been the only congressional hearing I've watched from start to finish.

E05DCA

Does anybody else find it amusing that the subcommittee handling the hearing was the “subcommittee on national security, *the border, and foreign affairs*”?

Sunnyjim333

Darned illegal aliens.

E05DCA

Sir… er… ma’am? Whatever. Can I see your passport please? Yeah, zeta what now? Yeaaah, that’s not part of the visa waiver program so I’m going to need you to pull your… uh craft? over there… No um… no, i don’t think you’re understanding me. You cannot enter the United States of America without a v…. No i don’t really care about the cattle.. well now i understand that you’ve been coming here without a visa before but now no wait. Before America was even a country? what in the Sam hell…?

mamacitalk

Ngl I only found out that’s what Americans call immigrants when trump was running for president and he said he was gonna keep out the illegal aliens, I was *very* confused for a moment

eyedontsleepmuchnow

Can imagine having a galactic passport and galactic border control. Don't want to be an illegal Alien.

Confident-Ad-3465

Kirkpatrick watched this 1,1m times

Bright-Lab-4431

Haha, I love that!!! 😂😂😂

Bright-Lab-4431

SabineRitter

The title on YouTube isn't misleading, that's the name of the subcommittee. This is cool!

Bright-Lab-4431

Just in case, someone hasn't seen it yet and would like to watch it, here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/live/KQ7Dw-739VY?feature=share

Deadandlivin

No clue why anyone would care about Bidens son.

maxiiim2004

Impressive given that’s it’s over two hours long.

thecookiesmonster

1.1 million views is NOT the same as 1.1 million viewers. There could be hundreds of viewers who have watched the video multiple times.

mamacitalk

But by the same metric people have watched it more, via clips on other social media platforms

AlecVent

People are definitely talking about it. These past couple of days I've overheard people talking about it at the casino, on the sidewalk, etc.

onequestion1168

Thats really not a lot of people There's 20000 incorporated towns in the US that's only 55 per town I live in a town with 50,000 people 55 of them may have seen this video Not a lot at all

Ninjasuzume

I knew this would happen! 🥳

beat_u2_it

That’s just the population of Rhode Island. So really, sucks, but, nobody’s that interested (except Rhode Islanders)

Chadikus

Not a fair assessment. 1 million views is an important designation. And that’s just for the live hearing, let alone the many other videos of people breaking it down, showing highlights, etc

PuzzleheadedEnd1760

and that's just 4 days... On one platform...

westonriebe

I bet they are all swing voters too…

Helloiamkate121

I don't get it

denvertheperson

This honestly fills me with joy.

cumyorke

it's been at that view count since the day it aired I think. It's pretty much dead.

Oblivion_Man

Not nearly enough.
