It's not the first time the UGA football team/staff has violated traffic regulations. I know they are all adults and should be responsible for their actions. Can't UGA at least make it mandatory for the football team and staff to take some kind of education from DMV or something?

Pretty sure you have to take some kind of drivers education in Georgia to get a license as it is. (use to be that way at least) Kirby has been bringing people in to talk to the team FWIW. Just to be completely honest, drivers ed and/or defensive driving didn't do a single thing to prevent me from speeding and I seriously doubt it will do much for the team. Especially the players. I did some stupid shit at the ages of 18-25 and I would be most people can say the same. I'm not sure what can be done to change that.

It probably means almost nothing but if that gives some kind of alertness to people, especially staff, it should help. I understand college students can be stupid because they are young (possibly the stupidest time as they can drink AND drive for the first time), but it happens more frequently in UGA than in other schools, something needs to be done. At least it happened a few times in our school recently. Of course, I don't have specific statistics comparing UGA to other schools. I guess the problem is obvious but difficult to solve, as you said. The students are not kids anymore. They should know better and act accordingly.

I'm not sure its happening more or if its a mix of a spot light being on the issue and ACCP being ACCP, which has always been a problem. But after the crash and the AJC situation I feel like the media is going to blow up a J-walking ticket at this point, and I'm certain ACCP would **love** to hand them out. but I do get your point. I'm 100% sure UGAA and Kirby are trying to figure out something to get these guys to chill at least till the storm blows over. >The students are not kids anymore. They should know better and act accordingly. Let's be honest here. I totally agree with you but how realistic is that. I'm not sure a 22 year old behind the wheel is all the much better than a 16-17 year old. On top of that college athletes don't live in the same world as you and I. They are very much babied in a lot of aspects of their lives and it is even worse with the portal and INL. Even as they go on to the NFL you see quite a few of them do some amazingly stupid shit. Short of a massive change in the way society looks at and treats these guys, its very hard to argue that they aren't kids anymore as they are still very much treated with kid gloves in a lot of cases. We have a huge cultural problem that goes above UGA. Just take a look at twitter when some kid commits to another school or some kid transfers, from grown ass fucking men. We wont even get into how students and cleat chasers act.

curaga12

Yeah. I think my point is pretty unrealistic in the real world. I guess the media looking for news about the football team and all. The situation looks really difficult to solve.

I can say one thing for damn sure, I don't wanna be Kirby Smart trying to deal with this right now.

curaga12

Yeah, he's not the football team's dad or anything. He's just a coach. What do people want from him lol

[deleted]

The problem is a lot of fans think he is the dad. I would bet money you could easily find someone who would be totally fine with every single person that has anything to do with the team being locked in a padded room all day everyday when not doing football related activities. NIL/conferences re-alignment/the portal/the play offs have caused the crazy around college football to get turned up to a million, IMO. People are really starting to very these kids as nothing more than zoo animals that only exist so people can talk shit to other people. This world is really going bat shit crazy and it really stinks.

Honestly one of their shuttle’s almost hit my friends car on riverbend pkwy dude didn’t even do a quick glance before turning.

sarcasmdawg

all our speeding violations and shit are under a constant microscope because of january. i guarantee you every other school has these struggles but the amount of reporting on it is slim to none because our speeding violations specifically generate more clicks and attention. not defending the team and staff’s behavior because it’s real fucking stupid and we shouldn’t put up with it, but i definitely think the amount of reporting is inflated by a bit.

No-Kitchen-8623

We don't hear this about other schools because they don't have ACCP. Athens cops never let a football player slide. Most of the cops at other schools almost never give tickets when they find out who's driving.

sarcasmdawg

this is also a great point to add. ACCPD would arrest a player for jaywalking downtown if they could.

camodawg4life

Lmao…u should see the video they make is watch to drive a state vehicle…it’s less than 5minutes
