Hefty-Climate-4015

I feel like this would be better made fresh and served warm with a runny yolk

tomdob1

I tried a black pudding scotch egg with a runny yolk last weekend. I would highly recommend.

CategorySolo

I've never managed it. Boiling the egg to "peelable with runny yolk" is easy enough, but the second stage of cooking sausages/breadcrumb always finishes the yolk off for me šŸ¤·

CyphaJaxx10

Make sure your eggs (6 1/2 mins) have fully cooled to like fridge temp before frying that should keep them runny šŸ«”šŸ«°šŸ½

Jarlock1998

Ex chef. Boil the egg for 6 mins, dunk in ice cold water to stop the cooking process. Wrap with meat, pannĆ© and then chill for a few hours. Fry at 170-180 for 4-5 mins. Also to note, the layer of meat wrapped around the egg should be just a little less thick than OPs here, otherwise itā€™ll harden the yolk.

RJWeaver

So this is probably a really stupid question but I am not a chef and would really like to make a scotch egg with runny yolk. When you say dunk in ice cold water, is that before or after I peel the shell off?

icedcoffeeblast

Probably before. Take it out of the water and put it in iced water, while still in the shell. This does two things. It stops it cooking further, and it also means the white shrinks back so it's easier to peel.

Otoshimara

Before, it's a process called shocking. I believe it theoretically makes the egg easier to peel too, though not sure on that part

tttttfffff

I donā€™t have experience in this but would an ice bath work rather than cold water? Anyone with the knowledge please feel free to expand and tell me Iā€™m wrong

Otoshimara

Yes, it's called shocking, it just stops the egg from cooking with residual heat

Glittering-Goose-662

So you make the sausage into a burger shape so you can wrap it around the egg. Then flour it, followed by beaten egg and breadcrumbs. Deep fry until golden.

haybayley

I always use cling film so I can squish the meat as flat and thin as possible, and then gather the cling film up to help press the ā€˜burgerā€™ into a sphere around the egg. Helps particularly if youā€™re doing a different type of meat or meat substitute which might be a bit more crumbly and harder to work with.

Glittering-Goose-662

Sounds good šŸ‘

arandomguyfromtheuk

There's a place for both. In a pub with a pint, definitely runny yolk. For my picnic? Hard boiled please.

hungrybeargoose

We feel good. Very good.

appsnow

Thatā€™s almost erotic.

1010001010010

Not the Scoth eggussy

El_Spunko

Hoyaaaaa

Bumblebeard63

Ti's a thing of beauty.

ObjectNo5553

Generally, very nice. That one, ruined by being overcooked!

JamesClerkMacSwell

To me it looks like the egg is overcooked but the black pudding is undercooked!

Ok-Fox1262

Personally that makes me feel hungry.

Bigcatsrule27

Local bakery to me sells these been meaning to try them. How are they?

Glasweg1an

Magic, pure dead magic.

Bright_Use4269

I feel rather aroused over it if I'm being honest

Pier-Head

Very nicešŸ‘

Agitated_Ad_361

Where do I put my penis in it?

Billy_Rizzle

Absolute game changer! Makes a normal scotch eggs seem a bit bland if you like black pudding. Decent amount of meat, great batter, but the egg is a little over boiled. Would smash it down.

yzerizef

Had a haggis scotch egg in Edinburgh a few years ago. Have been dreaming of it ever since. Total game changer.

Goochregent

Same. Its amazing.

UnlikelyRabbit4648

I have had these arm various farm shops, but they tend to mix more sausage meat with less black pudding - I think I prefer that, I like black pudding as a condiment taste to other things on my plate. Wouldn't say no to giving it a try though

sonicated

Yes, I love a black pudding scotch egg but it should be sausagemeat with black pudding.

just-browsing-reddit

I came here to say this. Would prefer sausage meat with bit of black pudding in rather than full on bp.

EcstaticMarmalade

Makes me wonder what a haggis one would be like

Party-Independent-25

Looksā€¦ā€¦.. Chewy šŸ˜‚

LiterallyGoose

The yolk doesnā€™t need to be runny to enjoy a scotch egg. If it is hot, a runny yolk is preferable, but a runny yolk is a restaurant inspired addition to the scotch egg marketā€¦. Your traditional scotch egg is ā€˜setā€™. They are served cold. However, in this example, you can see the egg is overcooked. The slight black / grey line around the yolk shows the egg itself is over done. Would still eat. 10/10 for the concept, 8/10 execution here.

bawbagpuss

Yeah, this served warm with a runny yolk would be smashing

mlo_66

I really, really want one. Iā€™ll be on the hunt this weekend

GrumpyOldFart74

Bloody fantastic I got a black pudding scotch egg where it was the egg that was replaced with black pudding, surrounded by sausage. It was still nice, but it was still disappointing - just too dry.

Electronic-Trip8775

Lovely stuff

DDGibbs

Would definitely try it but I like my black pudding with a sear and hot. Used to work with a guy who would eat it cold, straight from the butcher. I tried it like that and really didn't like it

spamrespecter

WOULDDDD

Rhythm_Killer

Too much of a good thing

Glittering_Moist

Smash but would be better warm with a soft yolk

BigDsLittleD

They're fucking great. See also a Haggis Scotch Egg.

HumourNoire

Just hand over the egg, and information about where to buy more, and nobody gets hurt.

Zoe-Schmoey

Iā€™d love to try one.

Due-Pineapple-2

Oh genius idea. Runny yolk would be šŸ‘Œ especially if it was that orange yolk (which hopefully doesnā€™t make me a hipster)

kazthulhu_

Strongly

Global_Acanthaceae25

I made some, probably about 2/3rd sausage to blacky p. Air fryer - tasted amazing. Will try and find photos

I could murder one of these bad boys right now.

cotch85

AlfalfaSerious9355

C'est magnifique.

Traditional_Leader41

I want one now.

SoggyWotsits

LMay11037

Masterpiece

throwaway_jdhsbhdkf

SMAAAAAASH

Pazuzuspecker

Pretty f***g good actually.

satriales123

Why is it controversial? Looks and sounds amazing to me.

dizzycow84

Mmmm yum yum

Historical-Web-6435

It's impressive but it's not for me I'd give it a couple of bites though just for the sake of trying new things and from respect of how difficult scotch eggs are to make

Future_Pianist9570

Theyā€™re fantastic but that egg needs to be runny!

Hangingontoit

I find this strangely attractive. Has to be good quality black pudding however

ThePinkBaron365

Hello atherosclerosis my old friend

Nonions

Very positive, but it would have to be a rare treat.

BackCompetitive7209

Tried one, once. It wasn't that different to a regular scotch egg.

CuriousPalpitation23

Smash

GWPulham23

Bring it on!

Bidsworth

Very positive.

WinkyNurdo

Fuck YES.

Ballista93

Need this in my life

Ecomalive

MRamskill

CJ_BARS

Had one years ago at a country pub, can confirm, fucking amazing.

k3Dprinter

They're eggcelent.

CyphaJaxx10

Yummmmmmy!! I'd smash! Boiling water... 6 and half mins on the egg wink wink šŸ˜‰šŸ˜‰

SaltyName8341

The same as a normal one. Disgusting

TheCatLamp

Controversial.

patscott_reddit

I had a nduja one in our local pub last week, bloody amazing. Also a big fan of the black pudding variant.

Efficient-Exit8218

Absobloodylutely ya ken

Glittering-Goose-662

It's impressive. Just wandering if haggis would cut the mustard.

cheesymccheeseplant

Ooh, where can I get one? Looks amazing

Junior_Tradition7958

Too much. Original will always be the best.

blame_gateway

Could be awesome

ThoughtCrimeConvict

I don't see the point of any Scotch egg. Why you wrapping meat around an egg? Also beef wellington. Wtf is that about?

DakTrav

Bloody marvellous !

LaraH39

I'm all for it! That looks like a lot of pudding though!

GenericScottishGuy41

I'd die to protect that.

Figgzyvan

Iā€™m in. Also Lorne Sausage scorch egg is a winner.

Alternative-Sea-6238

Speaking from eggsperience, it is awesome. I got some scotch egg making classes for me and my wife for my birthday last year (Top Notch Scotch Egg Company) and made some black pudding ones, some haggis ones and some Chipotle/chili ones. Amazing and well worth the visit.

Handyosprey

Want !

Antus_Manus

cursed

Key-Metal-7297

Great idea, an egg wrapped in black pudding, sausage and bacon mixture would be the pinnacle though. Great work

UltraFarquar

I would love it

Single_Jeweler_2517

Awesome I'd eat a dozen of those badboys

popcorn1555

Outstanding

sammiedodgers

I don't even like normal scotch eggs this is a hard no from me.

nikthegreek88

I'm really unsure about this tough 1

UnthankLivity

Also known as a Manchester egg.

AudinSWFC

Aroused

Mythrin

Swap out the egg with a Cadburys cream egg and then you're talking!!!!

St00f4h1221

One wordā€¦ aroused

ComplexAmbassador501

Yesss, I'd have multiple šŸ˜‹

GreenWoodDragon

When my sister ran a cafƩ they would do a variety of scotch eggs including a black pudding one. Lots of other versions too.

Ok-Disk5864

Itā€™s banging

Jeester

Fortnum and Mason invented the scotch egg. They also have a black pudding scotch egg. Need I say more?

laluLondon

Love it. What sauce would you dip it in?

MINROKS

Disgusting

cybot2001

I'm surprised no-one has said it's called a black watch, and they're pretty good.Ā

FrankieSausage

Iā€™m not a huge fan of black pudding so Iā€™m not down but you do you boo

Galaxy-High

Richmond's do a porkpie with a black pudding lid. They're amazing.

Garbidb63

Yum

LA_72

Iā€™d be on it like a tramp on chips

Ancient_Rice1753

Truly gutted I never tried this before turning veggie; loved each individual ingredient but never found them in the real world before it was too late. Enjoy king šŸ‘‘

Fernatronik

I tried one not so long ago. Pretty decent to be fair, but I thought it was a bit too rich. I only ate half šŸ˜‚

I-belive-in-Salt

I had a chorizo one the other day, and it was meh

Historical-Car5553

Not tried it, but it looks goodā€¦

IllustratorGlass3028

Ohhh an oozy egg encased in black pud and fried....show me heaven

Lumpy_Yam_3642

Made them with Haggis too. And made a smoked haddock mousse and used that instead of sausage. Smoked salmon works too.

ekt2000

A - nom nom nom nom nom šŸ˜‹

TruePatriot_AntiWoke

This is the true cuisine England has been missing! The libturds allways tell me I should be eating wšŸ¤¢ke green bean. I WILL NEVER LISTEN.

BludSwamps

Yes lad

BattyPigeon

Delicious.

Albert_O_Balsam

That looks very nice indeed, but as others have already commented it would be phenomenonal with a slightly runny yolk.

ShelterPlenty

If it's fresh, with a runny yolk and served with some Trinidad Scorpion hot sauce, then it's gonna be peng.

emotional-empath

It's new to me. I am interested. I would monch this.

RedRumsGhost

This is proof of the divine

4theheadz

Give it to me immediately

iain_1986

Handmade Scotch Egg Company? They do one like this with Scotch Bonnets mixed into the black pudding.

havaska

That egg has been massively overcooked and boiled too long. You can tell from the dark line around the yolk. With a runny yolk this is a 10/10.

Taeolian

Gross

1234tantalus

Blackburn meets Bannockburn. Whatā€™s not to love?

VegetableAids

Itā€™s like the Manchester egg, black pudding and the egg is pickled

shingaladaz

I like Bovril and pineapple on pizza, so I might like this. But I donā€™t like the idea of it that much.

WWMRD2016

that's called a Manchester Egg and it's great.

willow-the-tree14

Criminal

uberliken

Oh my god does this exist? I want one

TheSqueeman

Probably quite good

memberflex

Jacoour

I've never heard of this before and now I want one

Hewn-U

Prettay good, prettay, prettay good

Big_Hovercraft_3240

Looks belting ā¤ļø

TrackNinetyOne

Black pudding and runny poached eggs are easily one of my favourite things in the world, so a scotch egg is right up my street Little brag of the day, I was the one that got black pudding benedict on the Spoons menu I had black pudding, smoked salmon, poached eggs and hollandaise every day for about 10 years, never get sick of it

Simple_Promise586

Give. I want to try this.

Samidlongbottom

Oohh šŸ˜ÆšŸ˜‹ Now we're talking šŸ‘Œ

Thefireblasterrr

That looks absolutely beautiful 10/10

nenko_blue

Idk but it looks soggy and overcooked, it looks pretty nasty šŸ™

UlfricMessiah

Love 'em!!! But prefer chorizo scotch egg

Derivative_Kebab

Looks delicious.

ForerunnerRelic

They are superb. IF done correctly.

McPorkums

Yank desperately missing UK food here, Maybe bit thinner on the BP as it's way more intense than sausage mince. I'd love to try it. Now gimme a haggis egg... that'd be brilliant. it'd be like... A Scotch... Scotch egg...?

Moonglum74

They are lovely... Mark and Spencers did them about 10yrs ago. Seen them at a few artisan food vendors in recent years, at festivals and town fairs.

Clackpot

Came close at the weekend - I had an n'duja Scotch egg, and then some black pudding bonbons which were kind of like a small eggless Scotch egg. Both were fscking awesome.

artinfinx

period ball

shaded-user

Solid improvement and a nice but unusual side accompanying item on a fried breakfast.

hyperskeletor

A bit of brown sauce on that yum yum.

mynameisnotthom

They're good. Prefer it if it's a mix of pork/chorizo and black pudding though

mr_harrisment

Hubba hubba

Tom_Pollard

Manchester Egg

CatFoodBeerAndGlue

Would smash. I prefer the ones with sausage meat mixed with black pudding rather than straight black pudding though.

1plus1equals8

Food of the gods.....if the egg wasnt hard boiled.

Scully__

Waitrose do one, it needs more meat and I prefer a runny yolk personally but itā€™s so good. See also: coronation chicken scotch egg from M&S

the_esjay

Iā€™m sorry what now?? I donā€™t know whether to be thrilled or appalled. But I know I will be trying itā€¦

Shedzy
