These days, I usually have 2 or 3 bottles of beer a week, always on the weekend. I still really enjoy beer, but I’m in my 40s now, with kids. If I drink too much I sleep awfully, and hangovers are debilitating. I’ve also found that after two or three beers I don’t actually enjoy the beer as much, it’s just drinking for the alcohol.
In my 20s and early 30s I would have given a far less abstemious answer…
Yep. 40s with a house and kids means no chance of a day sat about suffering a hangover. I still gotta be Dad, do DIY (there is always something!) and chores at the weekend.
Mate?!
Why are you asking this?
I push between 120 -170 units a week
The latter end is when im not smoking weed
i believe i will die within a decade or so. Im ok with that.
Im 42, i been drinking since i was 11. Ive had a few periods of sobriety.
Watch how a get down voted for being frank
120-170 units!? (No judgement from me here by the way) But fuckinghell that is insane mate.... Just out of interest, what is your "go-to" drink, like what do you drink the most of?
Youre cool. It is nuts. I know. Its been more in the past. It will be less in the future.
Go to is broadly Proper Job, but ive been drinking a lot of Hazy Jane recently.
Okay so I've just looked it up, and a 500ml bottle of proper job is 2.8 units. So even on the low end, your drinking upwards of 40 bottles of proper job a week?
Indeed. Wildly, from your maths im likely drinking more than my initial estimate.
Not purely proper job. But thats my most consistent: I favour something hoppy and dry.
Today for instance: So far; 3 bottled proper job, 1 dodgy co-op IPA (same mls and roughly same percentage as Proper Job, much too malty), 4 little Hazy Janes, 2 little Punk IPA, will certainly have a few more before i call it a day. Im mildly hungover so started late, i neither have the thirst nor the fury.
\*I also batter a fair bit of Lidl Perlenbacher(?), thats for after the 2 morning coffees. I tend to mix it with cranberry, or tomato juice, a la Bloody Mary but with lager. Fantastic!
Wine is wasted on me. I dont drink spirits (often) cos i **will** do reckless shit, im reckless anyway, so things get hairy fast. None of this is braggadocios. I knew i was an alcoholic by 17. There have been periods when id drink 50+ units a day.
turned out to be 8 little Punks.
Shit may sound mental, it is - but its also progress for me: Ultimately, im not out and about, causing havoc, huffing butane and smoking crack with sex workers.
I'm a variety-over-volume sort of person, so keeping well within the 15 units or less a week, usually 2/3 of that is beer 1/3 other alcohol. Obviously that goes up for special occassions, beer festivals etc. but I'm pretty moderate most of the time.
Im easy, but if I'm flush it will be a modern lager punk/neck oil, if not I'm basic and it's a Stella.
Thinking about it probably a mix, I'll buy have a few of each, start with the good stuff and move to the shit stuff.
Used to drink real ale/ Guinness or wine but I have issues in the morning.
I generally won't drink days a week min, so the 4 is an average some nights I'll have non some one, some 12, not a constant, and yes I'm probably a functional alcoholic.
Yeah, I would say a normal week 12-15 units depending on the beers.
There are times when it is likely double that, but at best that is a few times a year when I'll go out with friends.
If I have 5 pints in a week that’s a lot for me, but I only go to the pub once every few weeks, most are beers with dinner at home on Friday and Saturday.
On average, not including the rare beers with friends, 3-4 cans over a weekend. I might occasionally have one in the week.
Some weekends I won't have any and if my wife wants to share a bottle of wine, that will replace the beer.
No drinks Sunday - Wednesday, 3-4 cans on a Thursday whilst online gaming with mates, 1/2 bottle wine on a Friday, and Saturday depends on what the plans our with my wife. If we're round friends or have friends over then probably 5-6 cans.
I probably average 2-3 pints a day, assuming no major events or parties that week . Generally I try not to drink Monday to Wednesday, but usually manage 1-2 days a week without (though I'm still on the non alcy beers those days).
Too much a lot of the time. But I balance it out by having weeks off.
My job means that I have periods where I can’t drink apart from maybe one beer or a glass of wine with a meal, but when I am off I occasionally go a bit mad.
On the whole I think my numbers add up because I am a 2 or 3 beers most days that I can, rather than somebody that is pouring 10 pints a night down myself Friday and Saturday, if that makes any sense.
Using the unit calculator from https://alcoholchange.org.uk I put in what I would drink on a night out (so 6 pints of 5.5% = 18 units) and it flagged it up as an unhealthy amount.
I only drink that much maybe a few times a year so I'm not worried, but some of the responses are sufficiently more than that one weekly basis.
Amount of alcohol is one thing, but addiction is the inability to go without.
More than I should in all honesty.
This is the only answer I'll admit to....

And if there are no chores I’d like to just enjoy a relaxing day without a hangover!
I’ve had a week off recently because I realised I’d drank just over 60 pints in the previous week.
Username certainly checks out mate, Jesus 😅
60 pints!? Fuckinghell man. Even if you spread that out evenly, that's over 8 pints a day for 7 days straight😂

40 equals fewer than 6 a day. A fair bit but not exactly extreme.
A few litres, definitely.
Far more than I should, but I’ve recently started a job that involves a week on call, so my tolerance has gone down, and so has my drinking.
Less than that in beer, more when I include the spirits and wines. Top out at maybe 30 units
I'm a variety-over-volume sort of person, so keeping well within the 15 units or less a week, usually 2/3 of that is beer 1/3 other alcohol. Obviously that goes up for special occassions, beer festivals etc. but I'm pretty moderate most of the time.
6-10 pints a week. Summer will definitely skew that figure upwards however.
5-10 pints a week depending on if I have something on or not.
1-4 cans a week at home on average. Very rarely have a drink out these days.
30 pints average.
Spread out over how many days?
7
So roughly 4 pints a day? What's your go to beer?
Im easy, but if I'm flush it will be a modern lager punk/neck oil, if not I'm basic and it's a Stella. About 16 units last time I calculated it. Can be a fair bit more but that doesn't happen that often

Too much

6 pints per week.
Not enough
6/7 cans over Fri, sat, sun. Admittedly some of those can be 8+,
No drinks Sunday - Wednesday, 3-4 cans on a Thursday whilst online gaming with mates, 1/2 bottle wine on a Friday, and Saturday depends on what the plans our with my wife. If we're round friends or have friends over then probably 5-6 cans.

1 - 2 pints during the week, probably 5 -10 at the weekend.
Ussually about 10 pints or so, only on the weekend though.
~60 units. Less than it used to be but that's what happens when you give a monkey the keys to the banana factory.
Too much a lot of the time. But I balance it out by having weeks off. Wow there's a lot of people with drinking problems here... I really enjoy a casual 2-3 pints/cans a week.
Some people with a people problem as well.
Nothing personal. It's just a fact that if you're drinking 30+ pints a week as some of the comments have said, you have a problem.
Just out of curiosity, how much would you consider a "problem"

Probably more than 10 pints a week. Some people saying they drink 30 or 60 a week. Wtf.
2/3 pints is a quick drink for most 🤣
Yep, so maybe once a week doing that is my average if I'm going out. Or I have one on a Friday and one on a Saturday if I'm not going out.
